    I have one that I bought about 7 or 8 years ago. Excellent knife in my opinion. If the edge happened to be too dull for some reason but you needed it in a defensive situation, you could beat them to death with it

    The CS Spartan and the Recon 1 Tanto (combo) are my edc knives. I mean I literally have them both on me daily. Mainly because I cannot decide which I like better. Nevertheless, “Two is one” Rule is applicable.

    Probably my favorite CS folder. I put it off for quite awhile because a lot of people were saying that the handle was too small for XL hands. Oh how wrong they are! My XL to XXL hand fits absolutely perfectly in the handle. I don't buy into the "heavy" knock on these beefy knives - I mean we're talking ounces here, not pounds haha! Really, someone can't handle a few more ounces 😂, c'mon now...

    Great review, and I agree on all counts.
    I purchased mine in 2014, and it has been my EDC. I believe it is a first generation, having a bead-blast finish as opposed to the current stone-washed finish.
    I’ve concealed it in a variety of ways, in pocket and inside waistband.
    Great for utility. I’ve cooked with it. Fortunately, I’ve never had to use it defensively, but the handle design places it securely in your hand.
    Initially, I had a problem with the tri lock not snapping to a complete closed position. I contacted Cold Steel. They responded immediately, recommending breaking in the mechanism. It worked .
    I would buy another one.

    • @MattRoseKnives
      @MattRoseKnives  2 роки тому +1

      Great to hear! In addition to being a great defensive knife (I can only assume) I think it is a great overall utility blade as well!

    *"CONS; "Heavy", some people might say that, but personally, I want it to be heavy to add punch, doesn't bother me to carry it, compared to my firearm, it's light! - So that's a PRO!*
    *I can use this for just about anything, not just defense, gardening, bush-craft, food prep indoors or out, perfect for us big guys, maybe not for skinny jeans.*

    You should always hold them up to a ruler for the handle, The cutting edge from the tip and the tip to the handle because cops measure it to the handle for jurisdictions that have length laws.

    The Spartan is just a little too large for me to carry daily also I want to stay with a sub 4 in blade..SOOO.. my choice is the Rajah lll... Serrated...Three and a half inch blade yet looks in cuts much larger than its size! Completely legal to carry in my state which is the important thing..

    I've yet to buy a coldsteel knife and regret it. I normally carry a vaquero xl. Before that I carried a Espada large G10 in xhp. I only stopped carrying it because it's not replaceable.
    I sometimes carry the spartan but the voyager line is lighter and bigger but just as easy to carry.
    My next favorite is my rahja2 I carry that in the woods. And the vaquero in the concrete jungle.
    You really can't go wrong with anything I listed.

    I’ve owned a CTS-BD1 version for years and just recently bought one with the new logo in Aus10a for under 30 bucks! It’s a genuine Cold Steel too, not one of the poorly made clones I’ve seen floating around. That is a hell of a deal for this knife! Yes, these knives are a bit heavy and bulky but carrying in jeans has never been an issue for me. My only real complaint with the Spartan is the grivory scales. I would gladly pay $100+ for G10 or micarta scales.

      I have G10 on a small Espada and prefer GrivEx. Only because G10 is denser hence heavier for a fatter handle. I love the thin, rigid G10 on my AirLite though.

    @kz11377 Рік тому +2

    A word of caution.
    Early cold steel Spartans were made in AUS 8 steel. That alone is not an issue, but the blade in that specific folder was beadblasted, and that finishing process created pores on the surface of that steel, which made it rust very easily. In fact it was unavoidable not to develop surface rust.
    Nowadays though CS has shifted to AUS 10, which maybe (don't have further info) solved the problem.

    As former federal LE and a Krav Maga & CQB Instructor, and again, though I teach with and recommend fixed blades for tactical/self defense use, the Spartan is indeed a beast and it has probably THE most secure grip of any blade that I've ever used.
    It also would make a great outdoor, hunting/fishing choice🤙
