The Cold Steel Spartan Review. A big ribbed tactical knife for everyones pleasure.

  • The Cold Steel Spartan is a big tactical fighting knife I guess. At over 9 ounces and with an over 4 inch blade, this massive folding blade is perfect for brunches, and fending off ninjas. In this review I compare the Spartan to other Cold Steel folders like the Colossus, the Frenzy, the Spyderco Para Military 2, and the Benchmade Crooked River. So join me as we tear up fine art, books, water bottles, and some wood I found in the basement. Also in the video I said once that it's 7 ounces, it's over 9 ounces- the measurement section is correct. I caught this while uploading the video, and I ain't fixing it now.

Pro Tip: Keep in mind that this blade is AUS 10a, which Mathematical Research Scholars have calculated to be approximately 25% more AUS than AUS 8, which gives you (obviously) the maximum street-legal amount of SurpriseMotherFuckerness by cubic volume.

I once broke a Rajah-2 on an old messed up scrap wood/leather chair. I chopped the arm of it with the inside curve and the notch that allows the blade to be locked open with the locking bar, broke off into a small chunk, making the blade non locking and basically not very functional. It had held up fine until the old cursed scrap chair, and was fairly surprising to have it break. damn voodoo chair

The design is the result of some ouzo and a picture of a greek kopis on someone's laptop. It allows you to grab your nearest pair(why if there's just one?) of leather under/outerwear, some mead, and kick the next door to door salesman down your front steps. You also forgot to mention the finger-guillotine feature. Because the blade slams home into the handle so vigorously, it tends to act as a wonderful digit subtractor. Sure, it mostly happens to the fingers of the person trying to close it one-handed....but I assume it's a tactical feature to deal with those pesky trojans. On second thought, related to the trojan observation, maybe it's not meant as a FINGER guillotine... hmmm....

As a guy that likes his Smith and Wesson Black Ops Gen 4 I have to say if you do want the smaller version of the Spartan you may want to check out the Gen 4 Black Ops.

I liked mine until I was carving up a cedar stick and a chunk about the diameter of a cigarette broke out of it.
I've owned a lot of Cold Steel stuff and have used some of their folders like little machetes for years without failure.
Mine must've had a bad heat treatment or temper. My favorite out of their big ones is the Rajah II. The Counter Point and Ti Lite are pretty sweet too.

I’m definitely one of those Cold Steel guys because I love carrying my Spartan. Even though I don’t ever use it to cut anything throughout the day. If I need to use a knife I use my Leatherman Charge. Lmao I carry this thing all day everyday and it never comes out of my pocket until I get home

Rajah 2 is where it's at. I had this and the espada xl, but the rajah 2 is perfect. Perfect length

No matter the size of the knife whichever pocket it's in will only have the knife. I dont carry enough stuff to need that pocket.. or to get enough likes on my Instagram pocket dumps apparently 😭

This is the knife you start carrying when you know you’re about to get fired and want your coworkers to remember you as “the knife guy”. The sense of ambiguous dread you may have gotten reading that sentence isn’t gonna be dispelled by reading this one. Brought to you by Cold Steel™.

Ok, just some thoughts, regarding art.
To get the most out of art, say, you don't shred it, with your Spartan. For example, lets say you are reading the Illiad. You don't shred it, you read it while holding your Spartan. However, be sure to put your copy of the illiad down and use both hands when you are closing your Spartan.

Awesome. Always liked Cold Steel, but just recently became interested in martial arts, though I've carried pocket knives all my life and carry my CS Bushman 7" into the forest with me everyday out foraging while my dog hunts about. So I am learning cane combat and am interested in learning to fight with knives as well, though I've been stabbed and shot before. So I ordered a bunch of Kerambits and trainers, and a CS Spartan and XL Luzon, including a Double agent as well. That shit arrives to tomorrow I hope. Man I gotta have an XL Espada in polished aluminum and G10. I know I'll fuck it up though. I should get it in non polished G10, but it's the gorgeous badass wicked look of the polished aluminum and G10, I can't deny. I got some CS sword canes too. Been working on customizing them for fighting grip and control, got that done nice, so both sword and cane shaft can be fought together or apart with tactile control of both. My customized Oak cattle cane is my primary battle cane, and it looks medieval, the way I've outfitted it. I will learn to fight both cane and knives together. I can fight my cane either hand or both and switch off generally. Man, I'm gonna be busy. I gotta tire and pad up some more trees. Got arthritis in hands and wrist, which pisses me off 24/7 and goddamned back hurts, fucking knees blablabla. I'm developing a new kind of combat cane. It's really awesome and powerful I believe, and is used a bit differently because it has more, and unique grip controls. Yeah Mon, gotta love Cold Steel. Only way we can own quality pocket swords which can be safely and effectively used. Badass throwing knives and spears and full on battle canes. Fuck yeah!

No don't mention the Rajah 2.

@@TheStratman007 It's a fine blade indeed. What I'm after is a full sized CS Spartan folding kopis, preferably in 3v. I'm not asking much.

The Spartan is cool and all but I picked up a Rajah 2 for that extra bit of compensation.
