Note- I was not paid by CSP to make this video, and I only just learned about their pricing structure changes. I genuinely like the program, and hope they don’t up the price, as I was planning to switch.
I am using Clip Studio Paint Ex via subscription and I'm very happy with it. I'm running it on a Samsung Galaxy Tab s7, and have been doing professional work. I found out how to send editable layers in a Photoshop doc while doing a commission: Save document as Duplicate, and send *that* as multiple pages. I'm of the opinion that if CSP wants to charge premium prices, they need to make that process easier. Love your brushes!
@@Raven5563 I'm in a similar situation, using EX under their subscription model for a while. To what I understand, they won't just overnight change how things will work. CSP 1.0 will remain supported as a one-time purchase all the way down until 3.0 rolls in, which will take years, which means they'll still be releasing compatibility patches for it.
I really love the program, I just wish they'd fix their pricing structure a bit. I don't mind paying for a new copy every few years - but we should be getting updates. It's a great program, and their updates are always great. But I don't do subscriptions, and I don't like the idea of paying full price and having no updates for a few years (I'm guessing here, we don't actually know how long between version 2 and version 3, etc.).
Theres going to be a new version 2.0 was going to buy pro, but found out the new update will be able to be bought as well with a one time buy. Just not sure if i should go with pro or look at ex. Anythoughts?
That's EXACTLY the kind of tutorial I needed. I've been drawing for years with a heavy lineart. I did enjoy it at first, but as I grew older, I realize what I wanted to do was fantasy illustration, mainly character. Getting into D&D maaaay have helped. I tried, but fail miserably. Trying to change your artstyle is really challenging. Your video really gave me the basic I needed to start this journey. Thank you so much !!
+ "If you pay less than a 100 bucks, don't expect to use the tablet for 10 years" I mean, you're right. My $50 tablet just hit 9 years aaaaand I'm considering to buy a new one lmao
Know what's funny - I was just looking up Tutorials on this because I have the program, upgraded tablet and what do you know my cousin's video pops right now haha :) Glad he is still helping me out like everybody else. He told me about Wacom tablets around 2001 during a family Christmas. Although I currently switch to HUION KAMVAS 13 which I highly recommend because it's right up there with the leading brands at a way more affordable price. TMI? Probably haha
Two and a half years. Two and a half years, I've been using CSP. And it's only now, due to this video, that I finally learnt why my attempts to blur the edges of some of my shapes wasn't working; I'm attempting to blur the edge into the transparency of the layer. The layers underneath may have had coloured shapes on them, but not the layer I was working on. Something that should have occurred to me long ago, but never did. I am not feeling very smart at the moment! Hehe!
I had bought clip studio and a drawing tablet and felt way out of my depth on where to even begin. This quick tutorial is an amazing starting place. Thank you so much!
I'm learning how to illustrate just to add the pictures as expressions to the realistic books that I've already written within the last twenty years, to have them published with pictures after another ten to twenty years. So you and your lessons are one of my very starting points not in intense writing, but in intense illustrating. They can shorten and easen my way through the beginner's difficulties with that kind of software and painting a little bit...the stories and thoughts I got to tell are heavy enough...thank you!
CSP is truly an amazing tool, in my opinion, the best art program for artists nowadays. The 'industry' should stop using expensive (and often crashy programs) and incentive the usage of cheap, high-quality software such as CSP for 2D (and even Blender for 3D). Nice video, thanks!
you can just click on the symmetry ruler icon on the layer and grab it and place it on the next layer you need it, the position will be the same, just in another layer, you can also Shift+click on the icon and will turn off the ruler if you want to freehand details without the symmetry, click it again and the symmetry will come back
Tick the little box next to the eyeball on the layer that the symmetry tool is on, and you can affect the layers above. I like to do different for differ rulers, so I put a horizontal and vertical on different layers, and just click the little box next to the eyeball to the layer I need active.
Amazing Just switched from photoshop to CSP recently. Didn't expect this. Always nice to see my favorite UA-cam artist covers a lot of ground. Super helpful Trent. Looking forward to the Twilight Monk game. Hope production in going well!
I've had my Kanva 13 for a year and hardly used it. But now I have free time I am learning to draw so I can make my logo designs much better. Thank you for this.
I've been using CSP off and on for years now. However, I try to catch beginners tutorials such as yours incase maybe I've missed something basic that could make things easier. Great job!
i jumped into this program and drawing with no prior experience and this video helped me out alot, my drawings suck for now but with the info you put out on this video its helped me improve a bit.
Gave up on CSP when they screwed everyone over that had purchased the " Lifetime " license, I understand 1.0 will be supported, but only until the end of 2023 when 3.0 is released, I dont subscribe to any paint programs, I dont make a living from it, its just a hobby for now, I purchased the Affinity Suite and they far beat PS ( for me anyway - who uses everything that PS has?? ) I purchased most of your tutorials off Gumroad and love them, Sketchbook Pro, Krita and Affinity Designer / Photo are my go to now.
I just got a gaomon with the screen on amazon for 89$ used but this thing is brand new and works seamless with clip studio. CSL even has its own calibration for pressure curve and sensitivity. So if someone's wanting to get into this on the cheap, I highly recommend this one. And there seems to always be a used one every time I've looked
Been making CSP tutorials for a while and I am glad more and more artists get into it as the time goes on. It's really a nice starter pack for any level artist.
Hey Mr. Kaniuga I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this video, Procreate is easy to pick up to figure out so I appreciate your Tutorial for the more complex CSP😊
Thanks this is some great info! I've had Clip Studio for a little bit and this is going to help as i'm forcing myself into a 30 day learn to draw challenge, so i can hopefully breech the starting phase of drawing so i can eventually mesh it with what I know in Blender
Hold the / key and move your pen/mouse right and left for fine-control zoom. You can absolutely draw well with a mouse. You need a big work area, a big mouse pad, and you have to mess with the dpi and speed settings. You can also draw with a dinky 4x5" no-feedback drawing pad and get surprisingly good (arguably professional-level) results -- just expect to zoom and pan a lot.
