Hi Jack, I’ve also just upgraded from the Fuji Xt4 (+Sigma 18-50) to the LUMIX S5ii. Such a great step! Love the lumix so far. Still not sure if I should get the phantom luts. Spend so much money on luts over the years and just wasn’t much satisfied in the end. Looking forward to more content!
Thanks for your comment! Agreed, the S5ii is a huge upgrade! I've also been disappointed by other LUT packs in the past but I think these are a league above those. They're pretty much the only LUTs I use now.
Thanks for this video! Pretty cool breakdown. Do you have any tips with the real time lut shooting on the s5iix ? It seems like a good pictures comes out but its missing a contrast boost. Just trying to find a way to get that contrast boost in filming so my editor doesnt have to worry about doing it. Thanks Jack
Agreed! Recently I’ve been adding a curve before the LUT for more contrast because I noticed that the colors do look a little flat . So I’d recommend adding a curve to your liking and then exporting that complete grade as your own LUT. If you right click on the clip you can click generate LUT in resolve. Hope that helps!
Man I originally got these luts for my S1, and they worked amazing. Since buying my S5iix, I’ve had to use these same luts because phantom hasn’t updated the S series luts to accommodate the new sensor. It’s SUPER washed now. I have to do more work with the blacks in post, which is kind of a bummer because the main reason I got the S5iix is for the Real Time Lut feature😩 They definitely aren’t bad for the s5ii/S5iix. I’m just making this comment for those coming from the original S5/S1 and are expecting to get the same image.
Hey! I just got myself a s5ii, But I'm struggling with the colour management in DaVinci Resolve settings! Could you share your settings that would greatly help me!
There’s 2 ways I typically handle color management. The first is like I showed in the video where I just map the nodes to VLOG and the second is using Color Space Transforms (CSTs). For those I use 2 CST nodes and all my grading happens in the middle. They take VLOG/V-gamut to Davinci Wide Gamut/Davinci Intermediate (where I grade) then back to VLOG so I can apply a Phantom LUT.
Thanks for your reply, I'm aware of managing colour in that way but what confuses me is when you go to settings in DaVinci Resolve, there's the colour management tab and there's input colour space, timeline colour space and so on. Changing them also seems to change the colour of my footage. Are those like inbuilt resolve colour space transforms? If I already set input colour space to Vlog and timeline colour space to Rec.709/ Gamma 2.4, do I use a CST node again or not? @@jackjvkd
@krutesh08 Exactly! It’s like using a CST for the entire timeline. I personally never use that method because I like having everything in the node viewer. Sometimes I have log footage from other cameras so I prefer to do it all in the color page for each clip. I usually start on the clip that is most important or represents the footage the best and then once happy with the grade I select other clips and middle mouse button click to copy the grade over and make small tweaks to exposure/balance for each clip.
You deserve more subs dude; this is good content!
I appreciate that!
