Mark, you were the only person I saw that pointed out how to "clip in" the front of the p-potty before pushing it down after dumping. Mine wouldn't seat correctly, nor would the valve handle work correctly plus it outgassed as we drove. Due to not knowing this, the clips got bent. I got awesome customer service at our local Camping World who replaced the whole unit for me. Thank you for paying attention to this important detail and showing it in your video.
So best to do is open it when taking a dump. In the official demo they open it when they flush it, but I guess you can have a problem then hehe. Thanks! Gonna use mine tomorrow for the first time.
You never put the blu down the middle as it can affect the rubber seal and cause a leak. It should always go down the tube. I was trained by Thetford when I worked in a camping shop and we were told many times not to do that.
@@MrMeltedwelliesinfo for anyone interested, but you probably know anyhow, you can buy a replacement rubber seal if it ever gets damaged from most caravan shops or boating shops.
Just got a van and seller include the Thetford potti. One question, do I put water in the top portion of the toilet or not? The diagram that the company provided is horrible and has me very confused. Thanks.
No disrespect intended, but have you ever actually used your toilet? Your video was almost comical to me, as if you were looking at it for the very first time. As a 40 year veteran of using Thetford Porta Potties, I completely disagree with your method of use. Why on earth would you want to sit on the toilet, perhaps contemplating your movement which has still not arrived, with the shutter open, smelling anything and everything that had been dumped in there beforehand, perhaps by the rest of the family? Operational use is simple! 1 - put down two or three sheets of any toilet paper around the hole; 2 - sit there without any odors, do your bit, flush the piston at least two, preferably three times, which covers up any potential smells with water. 3 - Then and only then, when you have completed your deposit, open the shutter and release the deposit, closing up immediately you hear the load fall. 4 - then close the shutter. 5 - Use toilet paper to wipe your bum, one flush after each wipe and drop, and when finished, a final flush. 6 - Open the shutter and let the load fall through. You will find most times, that the wet paper actually cleans the sides near the hole. Magic!
Thanks for watching and comment, 22 years in a camper van and had no problems but that said everyone to there own we have always done it that way as grandkids tend to shit all-over the rim we never put paper in the loo as we store it in a plastic bag this prolongs usage as we tend go go off grid for as long as possible i might do another vid stating this thanks for info ATB Roy Mark
@@MrMeltedwelliesI'm trying to minimize flushing period so my current project is to use a couple of car detail products to make the plastic non stick 😁. If I can "moisten" the bowl with a quick spritz of water and then shoot the poo down with either a travel bidet or one of those squirt things they give us when we have babies, it'll save my holding capacity for actual waste. I'd rather pee in it than fill it with water. Wish me luck!

Looks like a great little toilet
Good explaining.
Thanks for explaining how it functions. I did discover I am not a "good shot", so this might not be
the right potti to purchase. (LOL)
Thanks Mark for explaining that

Mark
Roy is completely accurate in his comments it's how I was trained to use it by Thetford themselves when we had the rep come to my camping shop.
