great video, that is one topic that we don't like to discuss, but it is so important. Cannot emphasize enough the importance of camp hygiene. Have a Thetford 565 but I use a 5Lt garden spray ( from Bunnings) to "flush" , never looked back.

We take our 🦘 with us when we camp, and have had trouble getting him to use this toilet!
We have the older model, non-electric, it works well. The real problem is finding legitimate dump stations to empty it i to. Ours was free - a curbside found treasure.

Onya mate, thanks for the heads up! Just wondering if sea water can be used for the flushing if fresh water if in limited supply? Would the be any potential damage from the sea water with the salt in it?
@@Upucome yeah Salt water kills everything but I guess it is plastic after all without any metal so I'd be thinking possibly, it is water but is it worth the risk 🤔
Couple of weeks ago bought a 565e not broken in yet. Since I got it home have been wondering if I did the right thing in getting an electric flush. Thinking electric could be something that stops working and previous have never had a problem with pump flush, maybe I will be carrying a small pressure spray bottle as backup flush. Anyway find out soon.

Doesn’t liquid leak out of the hole in the middle of the bottom of the controller when you move it? Or do you have to move it in the horizontal position to prevent spillage? The opening seem open and not closed.
@@petermacgregor9805 Na unless your really shaking it then leakage is rare, even after driving rough roads there wasn't leaking 👌
Thx but the one I have (another brand) has two completely closed water/black tanks. Nothing spills when carrying the water tank to be refilled or black tank to be dumped no matter how you carry it. That one weakness would prevent me from purchasing it- sorry!

Great video,we've just bought a tent and my partner wants a portable toilet as she doesn't want to be goiing to the campsite toilet during the night and the one you have just given a demo on looks like the 1 we've been looking at so you've made our minds up 👍👍

Do you put water in the bottom tank... only asking as we brought it it seem to get over full to quick so I have only put the blue stuff in bottom with 3 litres of water and I put water in top tank
@@cassandrawallace638 just a bit of water with solution in bottom tank to break down, but fill the top tank for Flushing water.
Remember all the Flushing water will end up in the bottom tank so don't flush too much 😁
Yes that what I'm thinking. Our top is 15 litres and our bottom is 20 litres so I put a 1 litre of blue stuff and 3 litres in the bottom. Am I doing it right
@cassandrawallace638 hmmm sounds like too much in the bottom. Think by memory the solution bottle says to add a couple hundred ml of solution with maybe a litre of water.
Then whatever goes into the top tank needs to fit in the bottom remember there will be toilet paper and waste to go with it.
My tip is read the bottle, sorry I can't remember exactly

Yeah toilet paper flushes like a normal toilet.
The bottom container when full gets emptied via a dump point.
Does it need solution to break the toilet paper down?

Good video mate, no bs, down to earth, my sort of guy 🤣 I've had a small van for a few years, and I always (well usually) get a powered site, so this will be my first time for this. I bought a companion from Tent World, Browns plains with all the necessary extras (chemicals) and I'm about to try it out this weekend. I've decided to use one of those pressure sprays (the one you fill up and pump the top to get the pressure) and then just give it a final squirt for final cleaning to minimize the amount of water used. Someone has suggested to get proper camp toilet paper for this. They said it dissolves better ? is this really necessary ?

Steiny how are you mate! We used the recommended dunny paper to start with and when that ran out just started using normal stuff and can't say we noticed the difference.
Just got home from a weekend off grid with my youngest and used normal stuff again. Maybe it does break down easier but can't say normal paper has ever been an issue.

I too would like to know this. Have you had any issues when full while traveling like rinse water spilling or the waste tank sloshing on the road/tracks?
Hi mate, apologies for the delayed reply. Been camping off grid for a few days.
But to answer your question it doesn't matter if it's empty or full because it seals well and there's no smell. I put it inside the camper trailer just inside the door when travelling (we have a hard floor duel fold). Easy to grab out and put back in when packing up. Cheers Deezel 🍺

I been looking at one of these at BCF, debating on getting the 12l one or the 22l one. But is the 150ml in the bottom tank is all you need with no added water?
Hey Gervs, Na you do need to add water because it's a detergent basically. If I was comparing size it means ultimately how long until you need to empty it. Hope it helps 👍

Hi rick! I put in the chemicals with the water before using it. Top tank has the water mixed with the flushing chemical and bottom tank has some water mixed in with chemical that breaks down the waste. Hope that clears it up 👍
@@gettingaroundaus Hey mate - thanks for this response! You mentioned you added the chemicals mixed in with the water before use. So when you throw the hose in through the opening on the top right corner before use, that only fills up the top flush tank (about 15L) then you add your 100ml of chemical. At what point do you add the blue chemical to the waste tank to break down the waste? Just before you empty it at the dump point through the outlet pipe? Or are you supposed to just add in the 150ml of the blue chemical into an empty waste tank before use, so it slowly breaks down the waste over the 2 or 3 days you are using it?
@@nabhanrahman8429 yeah both tanks get filled up the same, put the appropriate amount of solution into each tank then fill as required, solution in waste tank is to break down the waste for easier disposal

Can't believe there is a review on this antiquated rubbish??? Have you looked at composting van toilets to learn more? Odourless, compact, no chemicals and no need for dump points. My Thetford 365 went to the tip about a year ago. Cuddy and Natures Head are two popular and well performed brands.
For Camping this has been great for us, and turns out for plenty of other people,. Hope you have something that's also great for you, cheers👌👍
Composting toilets are around $1000. These cassette toilets/portable toilets cost less than $200. So I wouldn’t be spending $1k for a toilet for camping. That’s ridiculous. Maybe for a full timer, not camping/occasional usage
