Wonderful to see these three Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas and Bob Crane on a great American game show that I had never seen before. I most certainly watched The Beverly Hillbillies and Hogans Heros as a kid growing up in New Zealand in the 1960s. I'm 63 this year, they were great days ~ gone by, never to be repeated.!!! I know that my Mum and Dad who have both gone now would have loved seeing this.
the story goes that Max Baer Jr. (Jethro) was so nervous for his audition that Irene Ryan took him out to lunch and got him totally wasted and when he returned for the audition he was calm and delivered his reading perfectly and was hired on the spot
Look at the expression Bob has when the male contestant says he has three children ... Bob looks serious for a few seconds there ... He thought about his own children ... 🤔🤨❤️💙❤️☹️
For some reason I expected her "real life" voice to be different. She looks more like a not too old aunt instead of a granny without her Hillbillies getup.
This episode was very strange. First of all, none of the players were very good. But more to the point, on the second half of the episode (and continuing on to the next day) you had three celebrities and only one non-celebrity. We know what would have happened if the non-celebrity won money. But it wasn't explained what would have happened to the winnings if Bob Crane and Donna Douglas's team won. Presumably it would have gone to charity, but either they didn't say it or it got cut out somewhere along the line. All in all a very strange set of circumstances and I began to wonder if somehow the non-celebrity woman that was supposed to go on had some sort of a physical problem or a terrible case of stage fright at the last minute and Donna Douglas was the only person who could go on at the last moment.
1:22 Isn't exactly true about the cast of the Beverly Hillbillies getting along with each other. From what I understand Buddy Ebsen (Jed) and Nancy Kulp (Ms. Hathaway) despised each other off camera as Nancy was a candidate running for office (I forget the position) and Buddy was a strong supporter of her opponent.
@@jjgreek1 look at the 27 second mark, where you see the audience and the show title "Password". Betty is right in front, just above the letters "PA". She is seated next to an older woman in a blue dress
@@executivedirector7405 I think that was probably Betty's mother next to her. She often went to tapings as well. Later when Betty would appear on the Match Game panel her mother was usually in the audience.
I checked online and in the 60s it was one of two NYC midtown studios, except for some shows from time to time out of LA. In the 70s it was out of LA exclusively.
Too many of them people are Dead! Most are Dead! Stage are Dead, the four of them. And the audience is Dead, sigh! Some day I too shall be Dead. 4-15-2022
My dad -- Lee Vines -- was the announcer for this show. Cool to have these episodes on UA-cam!
if that is the same guy [the password reader, "the password is accident"] in the above episode, he sure had a deep bass voice. 👍
That's wonderful. Did he say the password too?
That's wonderful! It's nice to have you here.
That is so cool!! Did he think Allen Ludden was a nice guy? (As he seemed!)
Nice!

Aren't you kind of repeating them now...?? (In a way...)
I was turning 6 the next week so don't remember them from that young. But watched both shows on repeat in the 70s often.
Irene Ryan was only 7 days away from turning 64 here. Bob was 38 yrs. old
Granny cleans up well!
irene stole every scene in b hillbillys. awesome lady.
Granny seemed so sweet.
That would have made Irene Ryan laugh!
Don't they all...
I love her sooo much . Miss her sooo much . I hope she knew how much she was love and adored
Irene is an absolute delight. A classy dresser as well.
Those super slim ties have come back into style since the 60s.
Thank you. I am enjoying these Password videos more than I can say. What a beautiful trip down Memory Lane.
Irene Ryan is so classy! She has a beautiful personality on these episodes.
I think it was the time honestly. So many of the contestants were truly classy.
Irene Ryan was an amazing actress. She was hilarious and absolutely perfect as Granny in the Beverly Hillbillies. 💕💕
Irene might have been loveable as an actress, but she wasn't the greatest at Password.
the story goes that Max Baer Jr. (Jethro) was so nervous for his audition that Irene Ryan took him out to lunch and got him totally wasted and when he returned for the audition he was calm and delivered his reading perfectly and was hired on the spot
How cool two shows I loved as a kid and here they are on a wonderful game show I don't remember hearing about on the day I was born 😃😅😃😅😃❣️

Could be, could be...!
Mr., Vines was also announcer for a time on What's My Line .
This was one of the craziest episodes. I enjoyed this one a lot.........
Granny was lovely
For some reason I expected her "real life" voice to be different. She looks more like a not too old aunt instead of a granny without her Hillbillies getup.
In this era, a clue for "woo" should have been "pitch" or "pitching." "Pitching woo" was a well-known idiom at that time.
I would have said Owl , I know it is a long shot .
I've been watching Bob for a few shows now and he never really interacts with his contestant partner except when they do the clues...
I noticed that too. Kinda creepy.
Guy Williams and Irene Ryan seem to be very personable.
wow ! i would have never recognized "granny" when she's not dressed as granny
I love irene Ryan's outfit! So chic!
What a JEM!
Granny and Col. Hogan and Ellie Mae all on PASSWORD!

Password is one of my favorite game shows next to match game like Alan ludden
Irene Ryan is unrecognizable out of character, but as soon as she opens her mouth, she's Granny.
She’s so sweet.

Betty White is in the audience!
I realized that too
I kept looking for her but couldn’t find her

you'd think Ellie would have gotten 'purr' right away with all her critters.
In the lightning round Crane gave “Woman” as a clue for angry. Interesting association.
As he said: He was married at this time :D
Married with 3 kids - and sleeping with Patti Olsen.
She played Klink's secretary.
Yep. Big time schmoozer & boozer. Kinda had a love/hate thing with many many women.
He drugged women and filmed them. It is the reason he was murdered.
Allen immediately realized calling Irene "Granny" at the beginning was a misstep. He immediately made amends.
One of the contestants was Lane B. Murlin (1923-2008): www.legacy.com/obituaries/savannah/obituary.aspx?n=lane-b-murlin&pid=112426977
I'm really surprised that Donna and Mike didn't get the answer "purr" when Irene Ryan and Bob Crane said "cat" and "happy."
Irene Ryan looks nothing like Granny without that wig. She does sound like her. We do know Buddy Epsen and Nancy Culp certainly were not friends.
Wonder what Bob was doing behind the table with his hand when he gave "pet" as a clue for woo...
@carolyn thompson Speak for yourself.

Great entertainment.

Who is The Announcer on Password?
One of the biggest clusterf&^ks of a game. Brain cells were in short supply on this episode.
0:27 betty and tess in the audience!
Danna Douglas is all dress up to her neck beside Bob.
Granny Clampett and Elly May
Donna’s hairstyle is pre-Farrah Fawcett.
That guy Mike did not understand the game.
For creek I would have said Lafe!
The only member of Beverly hillbillies is jetro max bear jr
You mean "surviving" member, right?
"Content" for PURR
Donna Douglas
I would have said "date" for WOO

Should have said ‘seduce’.
