    I have been struggling with my golf of late. I'm a 71 yr old Sr. that carrying a 10 handicap, but of late haven't been able to break 90. I watched 2 or 3 videos this morning about stance, and take away. I hit the ball better than I have in several weeks. I had totally lost positions in my take away (taking the club way to the inside) restricting my backswing. Thanks for the tips, I am a new fan and am looking forward to seeing more tips.

    Instead of "keep your head down", I use "watch the club head hit the ball". Keep these videos coming!

    Todd, I am so thankful that you distinguish "young" golfers from "experienced" golfers. I was over 50 when I started taking lessons and every teaching pro kept comparing my swing to Tiger's or told me I didn't adhere to the Golfing Machine principles. No wonder I never had any success in golf until I started watching and listening to teachers like you.

      Tiger and the Golfing Machine are great reference points but not models for the "experienced" golfer IMO....great post!

    Great video. I’m a seasoned golfer, 6 ft 4 in tall and I always slice.
    Last year I started playing to about a 24 handicap. After watching this video I lowered my handicap to 14 by the end of the year.
    It was great to finally be asked to lead off on the tee box instead of bringing up the rear. My drives were in play at about 240 yards. The irons were a little harder to get straight until I moved the ball back in my stance.
    Thanks!

    Great video Todd. I recently had a lesson from a pga pro who was 40 years younger than me. It was terrible. He couldn’t get his head round the fact that lots of my suppleness and athleticism has long since departed and I couldn’t do what he wanted me to do. That’s why your videos are so good, you understand what it’s like to be a “senior” golfer. Thanks D W (71).

    Todd so many of us "experienced" golfers will try to do just as your lesson explained but when they put into practice it can go all or partially bad. What if we took your ideal setup, took the club back until the trail arm was parallel to the ground, check to see that the club head is in the proper position, do a slight pump down, take the club to the top and finish the swing. I think taking the club back so the trail arm is parallel to the ground could do a couple of things first you know the club head looks correct and second by taking the club back to parallel your weight can shift to the back foot. The pump and taking the club to the top simplifies one of the hardest parts of the golf swing, the takeaway. This could be a great drill to get the feeling of proper club head position and weight shift to the back and to the lead leg on completion of the golf swing or it could be an alternate golf swing for those of us struggling to hit the ball consistently. Your golf tips and lessons are great, thanks.

    I love your practical approach to teaching and the simple concepts. I’m going to play this segment for my wife, because your tips on the slice are spot on for her setup! I like the fact that you address issues that aging golfers face; I had both knees replaced three years ago and your tips can easily be applied to my constrained golf flexibility. I appreciate the fact that I’m still able to play golf, walk the course and apply your concepts to my game. Thanks!

    I was blessed to visit and play golf in Scotland before the pandemic. Prior to leaving I had a lesson on drawing the ball. I was instructed to use the right arm like a tennis forehand lob. My first warm up at Panmure GC I was roping draws on everything but driver. Sadly it never came back, no matter how Hard I rolled those arms. Watching this video may be the answer I have been looking for. I have played for so long I never consider my set up or grip. During that good ball striking period I may have stumbled into a different set up while trying to swing from the inside and never suspected it could be the set up. I will work on this, Thanks

      @@lesbrink2597 Good question. If the rough is not too thick, we like the hybrid. Most golfers under estimate how good the hybrid is out of the rough....hope that helps.

    Great advice! Loved the part on body angles. I’ve often wondered if I was bending at the knees/hips properly.
    How about a video on where to keep your lead arm? I noticed the pros keep their lead arm almost completely straight through the swing-I’m a senior golfer and my lead arm bends at the top of my swing because I don’t have the flexibility I used to.

    I have to first align the club face with the target and then my shoulders right of that target. This seems to work for me at the moment. As an experienced golfer this can change depending upon the day of the week.😀

      In this situation we would suggest positioning the ball between the buttons and logo on your golf shirt. This is slightly forward of center...make sense?

  • @8SheldonS8
    @8SheldonS8 3 роки тому

    When you say to keep the ball everso slightly forward of center for irons, does that apply to all three types? Currently, I am struggling with finding my proper ball position through the bag.

    • @USGOLFTVshow
      @USGOLFTVshow  3 роки тому +1

      Most the irons should be just forward of center. The stance will narrow as the clubs get shorter. Jew the ball off the lead heal for the driver. 👊

    Great video. Thank you. My issue is that I start with the correct posture and ball position but through the course of my swing I find myself moving my hips forward (standing more erect) and thus topping the ball. I’m 67 and definitely not the most limber person; never have been. How do I maintain the correct posture throughout the entire swing? Thank you for any help you can provide.

    • @USGOLFTVshow
      @USGOLFTVshow  2 роки тому

      Good question Randy, if you struggle with balance make sure you flare your toes out a little to give you a little more stability (and frees you up to get a little more rotation). Here is a great drill to help you work on tempo and timing: ua-cam.com/video/BiyzjNANslA/v-deo.html
      When the club is in continuous motion, it naturally is going to want to find balance. It's also harder to get in and out of posture when the club is continually moving. Give it a try and let us know if it helps!

  • @MrMartwy
    @MrMartwy 3 роки тому +1

    I would not agree with this "just a little knee bend". I'm really new to golf, 5-6 months, and I have developed two types of swing. One that is "effortless", when I create power and speed just from the rotation of my torso, and one "powerful", when I use my back foot to push my hips into rotation. With this second swing, I can achieve clubhead speeds like 86-90 on 8 iron (and it is possible to go up and up, over 100, but at that speed, I keep missing the ball ;-)), while with the first swing, this "effortless", I struggle to reach 80.
    But to swing fast, I need to be lower, knees must be bent more.
    There is a simple drill/test (I have it from my tennis training) that shows what is all about. Take a club in your left hand, stand with the wall on your left, and reach with the club to the wall. And now try to push yourself from the wall. With a high posture, you will just easily lean to the right, with not much force. With a lower position, you can easily "mount" yourself to the ground, stand strong.
    Try this, you will see what I mean.
    Then ask yourself a question - how am I going to accelerate the club, where will I find this force, if not from my back foot?
