It was nice to see and also felt like saying goodbye to an old friend. The movie was nothing close to as bad as the UA-camrs made it out to be. Without being brilliant, the film is perfectly watchable, with a marvellous opening and and inspired ending. Nothing like the hysterical condemnations one encounters on UA-cam.
I've no idea why people hate the ending, Indy thought he had nothing left in 1969, but his goddaughter knew about Marion, she made things right for Indy( as she understands loneliness since her father passing and no one being there for her) and that's perfect ending in my book.
I disagree. Too many reviewers expect AAA experiences. indy is and always will be B movie, fantasy, comedy, adventure romp. It is special on its own. No mention of Williams' amazing score harking back to each film. I think actually, it's an aging character recapturing his youth and showing oldies can be more than old. 9/10.

The continental drift didn't lead them to 2000. years in the past, the dial was designed to always take you there. It was forshadowed with the "forced deck", ie you think you're choosing a card (or time) but you're actually always going to get the one the magician wants. Archimedes says "you were always going to meet me" and one of them says the dial was a call for help.
Love the channel! I won't lie, hearing you gave it a 7/10, I'll keep my expectations in check and I'll check it out once it's on stream. Great review/insight.
@@Abrakadabro666 indeed I'm ok with my dvds, no need to keep buying same movies over and over on dvds or blurays , that's the scam they've set up getting people to buy same movies again lol
Just left the theater. Harrison ford still has it. He is Indiana. That said, this movie was not needed. I went in with low expectations and I feel I didn’t set them low enough. Phoebes character seems not phased by anything happening. Never scared or shocked. Even in the end shots. Then to suddenly care for Jones in the end after shitting all over him. I think the way she treated Jones sums up the movie. They shit on his character but then felt It necessary to try to save the franchise. The similarities of how they handled Han solo are uncanny. Broken man, lost son, causes stress on relationship with wife. Goes back to old life. Comes off washed up. It all comes off as shit writing. I feel it was written by a committee. I left feeling the way I did with the force awakens. Happy to see my hero but sad to see how they handled it. 😢
Disagree. The movie overall was great! Everything leading up to Act 3 and the reveal of where they were was super entertaining. Indy had some of his most emotional moments ever on screen - not wanting to face the future and just live in the past (which says a lot about this and many other reviews IMO). Better than Doom or Skull but not as good as Raiders or Crusade. Dial fits nicely in between and my friends and I loved it 💕
Good review; I agree with more here than I've seen with other reviews. As a huge Indy fan, I enjoyed being back in the universe. So, while I can point out some things I might would have liked done differently...overall, I thought it was definitely worth watching and better than Crystal Skull. On that note, why does a film have to "justify its existence"? This phrase was mentioned more than once and, while I see that being a consideration for the financiers and the studio....as a movie-goer, I don't understand the question. The justification for any film (from the consumer standpoint) is to be entertaining and/or thought-provoking. That's why we go to the theater. This film was definitely entertaining; I don't think anyone could objectively say otherwise. That's all the justification required, I think. Great video
If you're making a sequel to a 30+ year old movie, you better have a good reason for making it other than just to make money. Thats what it means. This movie did not do that
Saw it today, i cant believe people were making a fuss about the ending, people were making it seem like he was killed off but to my relief that wasnt the case.
You're out to lunch on this one, mate. The ending provided the perfect closure: Do not live in the past, do not yearn for the future, embrace the present.
I'm so shocked at all the negative reviews about this movie. Don't believe any of these hype train bad reviews! These click thirsty influencers are just copy/pasting these review videos for cash views. I didn't want to go see it myself after watching all the bad reviews and how all the theatres were empty etc. But my wife dragged me there tonight. I was blown away at how good this movie was. Absolutely none of the negative reviews were accurate. The CGI was good, the characters were well developed, Ford's performance was just as exciting as all the other movies and he's fkn 80! Dude's body is solid muscle omfg. These influencer first reviews are not from qualified film critics, they don't know the first thing about film history or what solid writing/directing is about. This movie completely delivered on all fronts. Definitely one of the last great adventure movies we'll get. I'm no fan of Disney trust me, but this movie is not bad it's even very very good. The effect these trigger happy negative reviews have had on the movie is tragic. Just go see it yourself, trust me you'll be happy you did.
Saw Dial of Destiny last night and I actually loved it. They captured the magic of the originals. Indiana Jones has never been great. They aren’t going to win crazy awards or anything, but they’re FUN. They’re just FUN. And there’s nothing wrong with that. And this one was just that. It was FUN. Tons of references and call backs to the original movies, lots of fun action, comparatively good story, just a good Indiana Jones. They did what made Indiana Jones good in the first place, Indy globe trotting looking for ancient/mystical artifacts, soling mystery, and punching Nazis. Nothing wrong with that.
@@BlyatBlaster brunette lady is a typical KK insert. Brunette feminist who can't do no wrong, the movie is a series of fetch quests ( the dagger in RoS comes to mind. Mads Mikkelson teleports to whatever location his character is needed at the time. "Oh but they made references to the older movies it's so good" of course they did it's in the same universe. Y'all let nostalgia shut off your brain to what's actually decent cinema.
I also had low expectations going into seeing it. While I knew that it would be better than Crystal Skull or even Temple of Doom, I knew that it could not capture the shear brilliance of Raiders and Last Crusade, which are masterpieces. The opening sequence is definitely the best part of the film, as we see Indy killing and beating up nazis, unlike in Crystal Skull where Indy doesn’t even fire a gun once. The best part about the movie, just like it’s predecessors is, of course Indiana Jones himself: Harrison Ford. Despite his age, really gives it his all in this and still brings a lot of charm and charisma to the role he was born to play. The film itself is a bit long, and I found myself almost nodding off when it got slow, but overall it is entertaining even if the adventure is not on par with raiders or last crusade. However, it’s not nearly as bad as a lot of the people on UA-cam made it out to be. And if this is in fact Indy’s final adventure, at least he left off on a good note.
I just watched it. I really liked this movie. It wasn’t the best but it was Indiana Jones and I was satisfied. The grief Indy was dealing with really helped the plot for me.
Just got home and let me say this. Me and my friends love it. I dislike to see how many of the "veteran fans" are coming out to ridicule this film. It's a good to honest end for Indy as a character rather than Crystal Skull in my opinion. The movie contains a lot of the hallmarks of the franchies and I honestly wish people stopped putting unreasonable expectations on this film. 1989 was a while ago and it's 2023. And as far as I can say this film is a diamond amongst the other crappy films out here.
So let me ask a question. Did you smack your self in the head with a hammer to kill the required amount of brain cells to actually enjoy this movie or did you go the more painless route of huffing paint thinner? Asking for a friend.
The bootstrap paradox also happens in the canonical sequel to the time machine, I'm not going to ruin the ending but basically the mcguffin comes from the future.
I saw it yesterday and it was fun. Sure, no as good as Raiders and Crusade, but just as fun as Doom, at least for me and the people I saw it with. This another instance of a movie that’s better than what critics or UA-camrs say. The Last Crusade was the perfect ending for the franchise. But we all know that in a capitalist economy dependent on consumerism nothing never really ends. These type of movies are cash grabs for the studios, but that’s not always the case for the artists (directors, actors, writers, etc). When I watch these movies I tune down my cynicism and tune up my suspension of disbelief. At the end of the day, anyone that dislike this film can ignore it in the future and just watch the original trilogy. It is not that complicated.
Okay first of all, they literally stated in the movie that Archemeds set the dial to send them to that moment in time no matter what to help them in the siege. secondly even if they tried to deliver a message 2000 years into the future warning of mutts death in Vietnam, its highly unlikely that would work and it could mess with the timeline. So no they couldn't use it even if they wanted to.
Harrison Ford will always be Indiana Jones, i honestly dont know how i feel. All great men grow old but he's still got that thing i cant describe fully. I'm gonna go watch the original three and cry now Edit: he's in GREAT shape for being 80 years old, looked strong enought to pull the ears off a gundark
We saw the movie this weekend and enjoyed it. It was good entertainment, and I’m glad we saw it it in the theater. Harrison Ford is always great, and I’m amazed he can do the amount of physical action at his age, hell, at any age. All the actors did a great job. My only real critique would be the chase scene in the cabs/cars went on way too long. There were so many chase scenes that it got exhausting. And the time travel bit was a little hokey. Not as bad as the aliens in the Crystal Skull, but stretching it a bit towards the unbelievable. I’m with you on Hollywood needing to come up with new characters and ideas. And I don’t mean comic book characters!!! I’m sick of superhero crap. I love the historical archaeology stories. Do that. Too bad they used Shia LaBeauf as his son and then killed him in Vietnam. A “Son of Indy” spin-off would’ve been good.
I assume that Labeouf's absence is more due to his public persona than any actual intent to just write him out of the franchise. I didn't have any issues with him in 'Crystal Skull'.
I know the death of his son was an interesting idea. But I wish they could have brought him back. Whether it is a letter he sends back in time that travels to him, and prevents him from dying. Or something. Idk.
If they release a Indy 6 and it shows that Helena died somehow in the intro scene (in the same way that they showed that Mutt died), the entire movie theater will LOVE the sixt entry JUST for that.
1) the comment about Kennedy making multiple self inserts is pretty spot on lol 2) I think this is the case of who wanted this movie, other than the studio and Harrison Ford, new audiences don't really know Indy and as the target audience, I kind of refuse to sit through another money grab... I also feel that we have another Rey situation were they are trying to replace the original with a modern one by shitting on the original which is really stupid I really hope this flops and we can finally leave bad ideas alone
Indiana Jones' hat is hung out to dry symbolizing the end of the archeologists career. Had a good cry seeing Indiana kissing Marion's hurt places reversing Raiders of The Lost Ark kissing scene between Indiana and Marion.
I have no idea why this movie had such bad reviews. It was entertaining from start to finish and ended with a good nod to the original. Ford, for me, is the ultimate action star.
I watched it today, got totally confused about Indy having children. I'd totally erased Indy 4 from my mind. Lifelong Indy fan: I loved this one. Yes, its flawed but flawed like all the others. It didn't have the very dated white saviour tropes of Temple of Doom and didn't treat Nazis as comedic cartoon villains like Raiders. Possibly the first time we've properly seen Indy's love of history, beyond "Blow it up!" taunts from Belloq where he can't bring himself to blow up the ark. I specially enjoyed how much Helena embodied Indy's attitude from his youth (Temple of Doom) of looking for "Fortune and Glory". I'd give it an 8, better for me than Last Crusade, equal to Temple and of course Raiders remains the best.
They show Indy grab his hat at the end to leave it open for more sequels. Because we really wanna see a 90 year old Dr Jones in 1970s disco pants and a big sweaty mustache prancing through the jungles.
PWB's character knew the villains were killing ppl, and still locked the door on Indy so he's stuck in the room with them. So basically she left him (her godfather) to his death. She feels no remorse or guilt whatsoever, doesnt even apologise. From that moment forward I hated her character and absolutely despised every scene she was in. Also in the ending she punches Indy, at his old age it could've killed him. He was also shot and bleeding so don't know how he survived that. They literally didn't show all the important bits with regard to how Indy survived and how they got back to their present, they flash forward and he just wakes up in his bed and that's it.. Also in the 3rd act the little kid was able to fly a plane, so fkn stupid. This movie shouldve been called Indiana Jones and the Dump of Destiny.
I'm pretty sure that the paradox in the Bootstrap paradox is with regards to the information which allows the loop to exist. In your example it would be the origins of the book; at what point was it written, if its very existence depends on its very existence?
I think the most interesting thing is Indy saying the dial would only ever bring them to the siege. But the movie had some very big flaws. felt like they gave everything Indy WOULD do to Phoebe. I don’t hate her character, just didn’t feel like Indy
It's amazing how after viewing your review how ridiculously dark all of The Dial of Destiny was. I mean really it was shockingly shot in very very dark light.
*SPOILERS!* Dooming the male-bloodline of Heroes in such a spiteful and *conclusive* way that an absurdly flawless female-perfection caricature can just swoop in and take the glory of his legend. while he dies old and forgotten without a son to pass down his legacy. Rey Palpatine all over again. This truly is Kathleen Kennedy’s handiwork.
@@joshuahecht6866 Kennedy could have just as easily have had him “refuse to talk to him” and let the Jones Bloodline continue on with dignity. But as it was with her murder of the Skywalker bloodline, that’s simply *not* spiteful enough for Kennedy; *all* hope of Male Heroic Legacy must be wiped clean to pave way for grrl-power after all.
I liked it, I thought it was good, nothing ground breaking but a solid Indiana Jones movie. I liked the nod to the third film as they had the same picture of Christ and the grail in Indies apartment as was in Last Crusade. Three will always be the best and four the worst but I found this a good enough send off.
I am a few days away from my 75th birthday so close to Harrison Ford's demographic. I really enjoyed seeing both old and young Ford. This may not matter much to people decades younger than I am.
I didn't find it as bad as a lot of people say it is. But it's definitely sad and bleak. Indiana Jones at its best was always mostly funny and scary at the same time. And this film is neither. Phoebe Waller Bridge is annoying as hell in this. I kept wishing the Nazis killed her halfway through the movie. She feels totally shoehorned in. I don't even think she belongs in Indy's team. It would have been much better to have Sallah pair up with Indy and have them both chase both Helena and the Nazis. And I would have liked to see Indy have some grandkids of his own. Have them and Marion join the quest too. Apart from that, I liked everything else. The dial of destiny was an excellent plot device.
Just saw it tonight and it was a very solid Indiana Jones film. It really captured the feel of the older ones. Especially with him going to the roots and fighting Nazis.. which became cringy neo-Nazis. Especially in the end! Poor Nazis, they thought they're very close, but they're actually very, very, very far.
I agree with your first thoughts. I was a bit distracted with the de-aging CGI at times but NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has tried so much action with a de-aged character. Almost there!! I think the movie was solid, had issues with the female leads MUDDY back story as presented, scratching my head at times, and wondered if they modified the ending in post shoot to leave a chance for a 90 year old Indiana Jones adventure as he escapes from the nursing home. I think this one will get better with time and re-watches and I think it will do better in the summer weeks to come. It is nostalgia done right and that's what all these remakes are. Baby boomers and beyond wanting to recapture those feelings.
Personally loved the movie, agree that a certain set piece should’ve been cut shorter *cough cough* car chase *cough cough* but found the performances absolutely spectacular especially on Harrison’s end and the underlying themes of loss and moving on really helped to justify the films use of time travel
@@barkboingfloomoh yeah totally but at least trim it down a teeny bit 🤏 did sorta drag after a while and made the whole crazy mafia fiancé jokes stale real quick
This film killed Indy and the entire franchise. Kathleen needs to be booted and blacklisted forever. The CEO of Disney should get the Bud Lite treatment.
7/10 is about right. Soooo much better than the last one but yes, a tad too long. The opening scene and de-aging was awesome. I also expected a bit more time jumping once the dial was unified. Def. Recommend this one.
I loved the accent on “he keeps his hat”, like it was not something they reshoot after first screenings. If you watch last part of the movie, it is obvious ending was changed somehow.
Holy moly, I’m not going to watch in cinema, but I was waiting on your Opinion to it ! Is it a coincidence that Flash and Indy have made ads to promote cars and their movies and flash flopped already with Indy 5 looking like to be having the same fate ? 🧐
Well, the scene with him grabbing his hat at the end just goes to show that there will be a continuation of the Indiana Jones universe just with Harrison Ford's character possibly as a cameo. I don't particularly like the girl taking over the job. His son would've been a good one to pass the torch to just as his father passed his life's work on to Indy. I know Shia has been in trouble over the years, but don't write the guy out entirely. Just say that he went off to war in Vietnam and leave it at that. Leaves the door open for the character (maybe not the same actor) to return to the role and take over the Indiana Jones adventures. Indiana Jones has explored different western cultures, but they've yet to do anything for the Asian history and culture. I always thought doing an adventure in Southeast Asia would've been a perfect Indiana Jones location because one of the running gags is he's afraid of snakes. Southeast Asia they're practically everywhere. Also, Asia has a lot of mysterious ancient history along with lost artifacts.

Thoroughly enjoyed the movie! Not perfect but it was really good.
they should have stopped with Crusade, but then again when money is the first priority usually bad decisions are the byproducts.
Love the channel! I won't lie, hearing you gave it a 7/10, I'll keep my expectations in check and I'll check it out once it's on stream. Great review/insight.

Nothing was wrong with how Crystal Skull ended at all.
They shit on his character but then felt
It necessary to try to save the franchise.
This movie did not do that
WTF I read a leak weeks ago that Helena knocked Indy out in the end and I just did not believe it would happen. This is absolutely insane.
Saw it today, i cant believe people were making a fuss about the ending, people were making it seem like he was killed off but to my relief that wasnt the case.
You're out to lunch on this one, mate. The ending provided the perfect closure: Do not live in the past, do not yearn for the future, embrace the present.
Making Crystal Skull look good.
They completely cucked and demasculated Indy

If only they just expanded on the first 20 min of the film
The studio came in and said "We needed another one"
Saw the movie it’s awesome 👍
I saw it yesterday and it was fun. Sure, no as good as Raiders and Crusade, but just as fun as Doom, at least for me and the people I saw it with. This another instance of a movie that’s better than what critics or UA-camrs say. The Last Crusade was the perfect ending for the franchise. But we all know that in a capitalist economy dependent on consumerism nothing never really ends. These type of movies are cash grabs for the studios, but that’s not always the case for the artists (directors, actors, writers, etc). When I watch these movies I
tune down my cynicism and tune up my suspension of disbelief. At the end of the day, anyone that dislike this film can ignore it in the future and just watch the original trilogy. It is not that complicated.
I am SO stealing that tune up and down! Also, great point, people act like they don't own the OT.
Haven’t even seen it yet but I had to come here to support my mate Paul
Thank you
Pretty sure the ending was when the credits rolled in The Last Crusade.
I 100% love that they never thought to use the dial to save Mutt from death in Vietnam.

Edit: he's in GREAT shape for being 80 years old, looked strong enought to pull the ears off a gundark
It's Awesome entertainment. Loved it
We saw the movie this weekend and enjoyed it.
Kennedy went from getting Spielberg coffee to trashing Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Bravo.
Finally a fair review I trust
I know the death of his son was an interesting idea. But I wish they could have brought him back. Whether it is a letter he sends back in time that travels to him, and prevents him from dying. Or something. Idk.
Exactly its such a missed opportunity. Sigh smh he should have found a way to get a message to himself to prevent his son from dying
If they release a Indy 6 and it shows that Helena died somehow in the intro scene (in the same way that they showed that Mutt died), the entire movie theater will LOVE the sixt entry JUST for that.
I think going to the movies is too expensive so they need to reduce the costs of film making in order to break even
Out of shape? Dude looks more jacked than me at 20
1) the comment about Kennedy making multiple self inserts is pretty spot on lol
2) I think this is the case of who wanted this movie, other than the studio and Harrison Ford, new audiences don't really know Indy and as the target audience, I kind of refuse to sit through another money grab... I also feel that we have another Rey situation were they are trying to replace the original with a modern one by shitting on the original which is really stupid
I really hope this flops and we can finally leave bad ideas alone
Love these brutally honest reviews
I can't wait to see Indiana Jones and the Watergate Hotel.
I really liked that this movie was more about the reflection of time and getting older than it was about pure nostalgia.
I loved Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny. I bought it on Amazon Prime. It's my 3rd favorite Indy film. Outstanding send of to an amazing hero!
The Antonio Banderas ship captain should’ve 100% been the grown up Short Round.
When I first saw the trailer, I thought it was an older Jock from Raiders, and then it ended up just being some dude
Thanks for the ending explained. Was never gonna watch the full film anyway.
Great review! Intelligent and articulate.
Didn't agree with quite a lot of it, but that's my problem.
Sincerely, sir, a good job 👍
I'm pretty sure that the paradox in the Bootstrap paradox is with regards to the information which allows the loop to exist. In your example it would be the origins of the book; at what point was it written, if its very existence depends on its very existence?
I think the most interesting thing is Indy saying the dial would only ever bring them to the siege. But the movie had some very big flaws. felt like they gave everything Indy WOULD do to Phoebe. I don’t hate her character, just didn’t feel like Indy
The Tuk Tuk chase literally looks like a Disneyland ride…
It's amazing how after viewing your review how ridiculously dark all of The Dial of Destiny was. I mean really it was shockingly shot in very very dark light.
I liked it. And that's all that matters.

Same here just finished it. It was classic 80s Spielberg action. Idk why nobody wants to give it a chance. I think people just want Disney to fail
No doubt about it. Mutt shouldn’t have died nor does Indiana deserves to be alone.
Have Mutt be father to a Vietnamese son who shows up with his mother on Indiana’s doorstop in a flashback at the beginning of the next movie.
I refuse to watch this. The Last Crusade was the final chapter in the Indy franchise for me. Thanks for the breakdown Paul.
I liked it, I thought it was good, nothing ground breaking but a solid Indiana Jones movie. I liked the nod to the third film as they had the same picture of Christ and the grail in Indies apartment as was in Last Crusade. Three will always be the best and four the worst but I found this a good enough send off.
Thanks for the info
I am a few days away from my 75th birthday so close to Harrison Ford's demographic. I really enjoyed seeing both old and young Ford. This may not matter much to people decades younger than I am.
THANKS for this, Paul!!!!
Well said
Personally loved the movie, agree that a certain set piece should’ve been cut shorter *cough cough* car chase *cough cough* but found the performances absolutely spectacular especially on Harrison’s end and the underlying themes of loss and moving on really helped to justify the films use of time travel

I loved the first half and although the second wasn’t as great I though it was decent. Overall a solid summer movie. Better than I expected it to be.
Holy moly, I’m not going to watch in cinema, but I was waiting on your Opinion to it !
Is it a coincidence that Flash and Indy have made ads to promote cars and their movies and flash flopped already with Indy 5 looking like to be having the same fate ? 🧐
Men dont expire,we perspire.pachino & Dinero just had babies & Harrison looks great
Well, the scene with him grabbing his hat at the end just goes to show that there will be a continuation of the Indiana Jones universe just with Harrison Ford's character possibly as a cameo.
The CGI part when the travel on the train , is what they call humore , i hope
Luved to have a chance of wachin it in the las vegaS new atraction , thee sphear ! They say it the next thing in entertaitemnt and u can feel as u are in the movie
So they said his son DIED in Vietnam ?? Why didn’t they just recast with Chris Pratt???
Not the first time Shia's been killed off offscreen in a film sequel nobody wanted.
They couldn't at least just mention mutt was in other cities with his new wife and kids. But nope disney fked up
Yeah, they could have made Indy’s son Mutt MIA in Vietnam. They didn’t have to kill him off. But that’s Kathleen Kennedy for you.
I thought the ending was kinda dumb, unbelievable, and sort of a ripoff of Back to the Future. Also major plothole that Indy looks so old. I thought the Holy grail he drank in Last Crusade not only gave him resistance to injuries but also eternal youth??
