When salah enters in the final scene, he’s actually telling his grandchildren about the events in Raiders, when Indy and Marian run away from the nazi plane in the desert!
also Indy says the dial was always supposed to take them to that moment because he was calling for help. I took that as the dial isnt really a time travel device its only designed to go to one spot. It just got the reputation it could go any time over the centuries.
I've just realized that the character of Helena is supposed to be similar to Indy in Temple of Doom. At this moment in their adventures, they both only treat the artifacts as ways to gain "fortune and glory". It's like Old Indy is seeing how he used to be at first
I think the reason that there wasn’t an initial classic Indy travel montage when going to Tangier was because it was before Indy accepted the call to adventure. After he accepts he has to do this mission the classic travel map montage is there.
Nobody used the dail to help the Nazi not hurt his face. The dial intentionally only ever takes you to one time. The battle of Syracuse. This was explained in the movie. Archimedes was using it to call for help from the future.
Small detail, but when the four divers dive into the water, the orchestra plays a note as each person jumps in. However, for the last one, the young scuba diver did not have a note play when he jumped in, alluding to his eventual demise.
I liked that every time Teddy told Indy to go one direction during the tuk tuk chase, he went the other. It reminded me of Shorty yelling, “No Indy, left tunnel!”
Does kinda make one why they didn't use Ingruber for at least the 1944 portion as a younger Indy...he's played a younger version of Ford in a movie, and Last Crusade went with River Phoenix for a teenage Indy. So it's not like series hasn't done plot-related flashbacks with younger actors.
Toward the end of the movie, before they reach Archimedes, there's a car with the license plate number 1981, which I imagine is a homage to the first movie which was released in 81.
There was also an homage to The French Connection on the subway platform. There was also a reference to the well of souls the way Indy knocked over the shelves at the university archive. There were also multiple references to the mine car sequence when Short Round says to take the left tunnel but Indy goes right.

Did anyone else catch that Helena and Indy placed their flashlights on top of Archimedes tomb facing one other - much like cherubim on the top of the Ark of the Covenant?
This movie can go in the slightly deceptive trailer list, since the trailer version of the jump from the plane left out Roman fleet attacking Syracuse. And I was perfectly fine with that. I also like that Helena is on a parallel course to Indy from Temple of Doom. That film's Indyv was all about fortune and glory, much like Helena was.

One other thought. While I really liked the film, my son and I discussed that it felt like it was darker than the others. Not as gory as Temple of Doom, but more callous to some of the deaths. Unlike Mola Rom, who, while brutal, killed for his religion or Belloq who seemed, at least later in the film, reluctant to kill, Vollmer and especially Weber killed for convenience. And while Marion looked away from the mechanic's fate at the plane and you had something similar by the big guard in Temple of Doom where Indy even tried to save him from being crushed, there was no pity from Teddy for drowning Hauke. It just felt like this film had a little less of our better angels. Still really enjoyed it. Just a thought.
I was pleased with this. A great swan song for Dr. Jones. You have to wonder though, if Denholm Elliot was still alive (granted, he'd be 100 years old), would he have been Helena's father?
Also, Indy looks down at the parade and sees Helena cutting across the street through the parade and an Irish marching band... playing a song that sounds very similar to the one that another Irish marching band was playing when Richard Kimble cuts through/across the St Patricks Day parade in The Fugitive. I would bet anything that was a little mini homage.
I was a snare drummer in a Bag Pipe Band. That tune is called "Massed Bands." Everyone learns it so when necessary for multiple Pipe Bands all playing together, we all know it, no matter what other songs we might play by ourselves and in competitions. The snare drum that accompanies it is really complicated. My son marched with me for two years and when that scene came on we looked at each other and nodded: the unspoken communication, "Massed Bands."
I got some Fugitive movie vibes during the parade and the second deaged scene he was dressed just like his character from that movie. Also, he was technically a fugitive framed for murder during that time.
The movie was a LOT better than I was expecting. I loved it tbh, lot of things I didn’t like, like why in the world Indy wanted to stay in that timeline? Regardless it was cool to see Harrison Ford as Indy one last time and it was better than the 4th one without a doubt
He wanted to stay because he felt like he was of no use to anyone anymore. He says this. He didn’t have Marion and he felt no purpose anymore, having retired, etc.
The Spear of Longinus is also the starting point for Barry Sadler's "Casca: The Eternal Mercenary" books. The main character is Casca Rufio Longinus, and he was the Roman legionnaire who lanced Christ in his side on Golgotha. Christ then says to him "Soldier, you are content with what you are. Then that you shall remain, until we meet again.", thus damning Casca to walk the Earth until the Second Coming. They were a great series of books.

I got a question Mr.Voss. Wouldn’t that Spear in the end scene be the spear of Destiny ? The spears that hit the plane where so much bigger and I want I say 3 point? Just curious
Anyone else catch Phoebe Waller-Bridge look directly into the camera on the boat (a nod to fleabag.) It was quick and not really breaking the 4th wall as the shot was suppose to be Indy's POV.
Just got out of the theater. Not sure what the critics are smoking, this movie is really good. Not as good as Raiders or Crusade (but what is?) but far better than Temple or Crystal. A solid 90-92% for me if I’m doing it on a RT scale. Fun, worthy sendoff for one of the most important fictional characters in my life. If you haven’t seen it yet, go see it.
But it actually isn’t. It’s a solidly acted movie with a poor pointless story. This was a very depressing somber movie which is fine for other movies but not for an Indy movie.
Agreed. For me it’s even better than Crusade in many ways. Nothing is as good as Raiders - it’s perfection. But the story, the acting, the action etc. are all on point. Made me goody like a boy again. The story is fun and interesting and easy to understand. I don’t know why people say it’s confusing.
I am so surprised there isn't a update version of this video because when this video first came out the film was still in the cinema but of course now it's on Disney+ so I wonder if we will ever get a update

YEah alot of people are saying it's cause Shia is problematic but I doubt that entirely. I think they were just feeling that a female adventurer counterpart would sell better and that having lost his son would drive the plot better than weaving him in. I adore Shia though
Hyped up to watch this later when I see the movie on sunday, and the fact that the Han Solo impersonator is in this movie made me more excited. His impression of Ford really still stuck with me till ths day.
@@tedsheridan8725 I tend to get very impatient lol, no need to get all hostile. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing it this weekend. Hope my answer is clear on that 💯🤌.
To complete the closed loop, the movie shouldn't have shown the in-progress pieces of the dial in Archimedes's workshop but rather just a blueprint or something, so that the dial could be a paradox, same goes with the watch, the movie should've shown Voller taking it from Archimedes's body in the tomb, only to be taken by Archimedes moments later after the plane crashed.
So I think it’s a plot hole maybe. They find the wrist watch on the skeleton of archimedes. Then they go back in time. You see archimedes looking at the watch. Then when he meets Indy and Helena he hands the dial back to them and you can see the wrist watch on the dial. He hands the watch back to them to take back to the future (great Scott! 😉) so his skeleton should never have had the watch on in the first place when they found it.
Did anyone else notice the license plate on the van when Indy was taken? It think it was SR13 1981 and 1981 was the year Raiders of the Lost Ark came out. I cant figure out (yet) the SR13. Anyone?

I definitely saw a large round rolling boulder in the trailer but didn't see it in the film?
Wow. Amazing !!! I enjoyed every second of this.
That deaging was so good. Was truly impressed. I truly liked this movie. I had a lot of fun. Equal amounts of nostalgia and OG trilogy feels. Had a great time. Left feeling much different than #4, which I am officially calling this movie😅
I wish Boyd Holbrook would get more leading roles hes a badass
Such a punchable face, keep him doing villain roles
I don’t think Indy caught that bullet. He’s just pulling his hand back to not get hit by it. He’s just reacting
Exactly. My thought also. It just startled him is all.
Also you can literally see it graze his shoulder.
@@sugarbrutalsyd8303It hits his hand
Wested leather, the company that made the original Indiana Jones jackets, is selling the destiny jacket, with a bullet hole repair in the left arm.
A great return and end to one of my favorite film series of all time. Seriously if you haven't seen it in theaters and are an Indiana Jones fan please do.
In addition, you can see Alex Lawther wearing glasses at the party where they celebrated Indy.
@@kevinstfort foh with that unserious nonsense
@@kevinstfort You not getting the story doesn't make it poor. It's the best written of the movies by far.
@@alphanerd7221 😳🤦🏽♂️
Was Indy telling Voller he should have “retired” him when he had the chance a Bladerunner reference?
All of Marion's photos seem to be on the set Raiders. Did the monkey have a secret camera?
It was activated by doing a Nazi salute.
I am so surprised there isn't a update version of this video because when this video first came out the film was still in the cinema but of course now it's on Disney+ so I wonder if we will ever get a update
It clearly says in the movie that the kids are his grandkids
He also says the year 213 a few times, when it was 212.
The gun/whip thing was also in TOD where the Thugees have swords.
Salah’s grandchildren not his kids!
I think there’s a scene where Helena call Indy “Jonesey” which might be a callback to Mac’s character in Crystal Skull.
not too fond of them killing mutt, after rewatching crystal skull i really liked him and was kinda hoping we were gonna see him as like a secret partner for indy, but i think my obsession with time travel stories overpowered my dislike for that lmao
YEah alot of people are saying it's cause Shia is problematic but I doubt that entirely. I think they were just feeling that a female adventurer counterpart would sell better and that having lost his son would drive the plot better than weaving him in. I adore Shia though
I am, I can't stand the actor
Well in fairness, who knows. The Vietnam War is still going on. Plenty of people that were officially dead came back when the POW's were released.
You're talking about Spear of Destiny also known as Spear of longinus cuz it was the Roman soldier Longines spear that was used to do so
Hyped up to watch this later when I see the movie on sunday, and the fact that the Han Solo impersonator is in this movie made me more excited.
His impression of Ford really still stuck with me till ths day.
Why would you watch this before seeing the movie??
@@tedsheridan8725 I tend to get very impatient lol, no need to get all hostile. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing it this weekend.
Hope my answer is clear on that 💯🤌.
@@AirbenderHawki don’t think the guys response was hostile??
@@ethanjw I know , I tend to get defensive in some cases but I'm hyped up to see the movie tomorrow.
great recap - loved the movie
To complete the closed loop, the movie shouldn't have shown the in-progress pieces of the dial in Archimedes's workshop but rather just a blueprint or something, so that the dial could be a paradox, same goes with the watch, the movie should've shown Voller taking it from Archimedes's body in the tomb, only to be taken by Archimedes moments later after the plane crashed.
This is a “it always happened” plot and not a paradox plot.
It's a closed loop nor an open loop
So I think it’s a plot hole maybe. They find the wrist watch on the skeleton of archimedes. Then they go back in time. You see archimedes looking at the watch. Then when he meets Indy and Helena he hands the dial back to them and you can see the wrist watch on the dial. He hands the watch back to them to take back to the future (great Scott! 😉) so his skeleton should never have had the watch on in the first place when they found it.
The children with Sala are his grand kids. He says “my grandkids know their history”
Did anyone else notice the license plate on the van when Indy was taken? It think it was SR13 1981 and 1981 was the year Raiders of the Lost Ark came out. I cant figure out (yet) the SR13. Anyone?
I thought this was a cool movie, fun and felt more like the original trilogy. Lots of awesome Easter eggs as you mentioned.
Did anyone notice in the relic room the artifact vase that was smashed over Indy's head by his father in Crusade?
The focus on the hat at the end seemed to me as a visual that Indy was "hanging up his hat".
I just saw it last night and I LOVED it. Don't let the fragility of others ruin it for you, see it in theaters while you can.
Fragility?
codywaloper22 sounds like a bot
@@kevinstfort goggle it.
@@itsallmonifa Says the actual bot.
That’s awesome if CGI young Indiana Jones only in movie prequel.
Nice video and review, I liked watching Indiana. Was nice movie. ❤❤❤
