    Thanks for this video,some of us still have galvanized pipe & have good water pressure still,so this helps a lot of us that believe in "Don't fix it if it ain't broken" I will be purchasing this system now,I got so tired of the PEX videos

    Using galvanized is much cheaper than replacing all the plumbing in a house I'm doing well to afford now. There's a reason that the lumber stores and hardware stores in my area stock mostly IPS, it's the most commonly system used in houses that are 50 - 100 years old.
    Here's a cringe for the electricians out there, some houses still use knob and tube.

    Will these valves work in a walk in shower without a tub faucet? I thought maybe I could just cap the outlet for the tub. Or do I need a completely different valve with three outlets instead of four?

      Hello USMC Young Gun. Moen Posi-Temp valves can be installed in walk in showers by capping the tub port.

    My opinion: If you have a small plumbing project, similar the one depicted here in this video, it's probably best to stay with IPS. If your plan to add copper gradually over time, don't! Research clearly states this is "counterproductive" because electrolysis can quickly occur (5-6 years). Dielectric unions (which can be used between iron and copper, for example, are difficult to mate with IPS and copper fittings without leaks in what I've read.
    Supposedly, brass is an "inert" metal and can be used between these two metals as a retardant to electrolysis. Probably why almost all rough in valves are brass???
    In speaking with plumbers, they recommend NOT gradually or slowly converting to copper while you still have IPS in place. It's just best to replumb in all one metal.
    Moen was keen to use this IPS video, because it's a reality for many people!

    Question we just installed a bathroom amd we used this same faucet we only had enough pipe to get the cold water hooked up and everything worked except for the bathtub faucet. Do both sides have to have water befor it will work?

    • @moenfaucets
      @moenfaucets  5 років тому

      Hello Daniel. Moen's pressure balancing, single handle tub/shower valves must have both the hot and cold water opened/turned on before it will allow water through the valve.

    Modern galvanized pipe is not equal to the galvanized from years ago. If you use iron pipe for water you'll regret it very soon. Use brass or a cpvc or PEX or copper.

    This isn't real world at all. You are supposed to start with the plan of just changing the shower valve. Then a week later, you have ended up replumbing the whole house........

    It takes a certain type of mindset to do show an installation that is contrary to most civilized plumbing codes
    If the existing piping is galvanized (ferrous metal) why would they show connecting a non ferrous metal shower body to it?
    A decent apprentice would know to use a dielectric union when mixing metals that will cause an electrolytic action and premature failure of the system. It is how to videos such as Moen that made my decision to install strictly Delta shower valves WITH integral stops .. Rather then giving inept advice they are better leaving this video off the net

    Galvanized piping? What house in the UNIVERSE uses that?!

    • @everythinghomerepair1747
      @everythinghomerepair1747 8 років тому +3

      An older house.

    • @mycats7321
      @mycats7321 6 років тому

      Mine does, but it was built in the 1930s or 1940s. I think the house was a DIY project from various homeowners over the years. I have galvanized connected to copper connected to CPVC & PVC.

    • @mycats7321
      @mycats7321 4 роки тому

      @You Wish I actually found that I had to use stainless steel for the parts connected directly to the pump because the pump vibrates and it gets hot. It kept warping the PVC from the heat and then shaking it loose & causing severe leaks. So now the first several inches out of the pump are metal & the rest is PVC (which gives it a little more flexibility). I used pipe dope and teflon tape to make it more secure. Haven't had a melting/breaking since that change. I am hoping that when I install a new shed that there will be more room to adjust the pipes better though. It's not ideal, but my system is antiquated & there's only one person I know within a 200mile radius who works on that sort of equipment & he doesn't know the newer techniques & technology.

    • @mycats7321
      @mycats7321 4 роки тому

      @You Wish Yeah, if it were feasible I'd replace the run with metal, but it's not an option with how often it needs maintenance. The PVC gets replaced a bit. I know PVC is no longer even allowed inside houses (at least not for water supply). Has to be CPVC, copper, or PEX I think. But, it's an old house (built around the 40s) & done cheaply so they used galvanized steel for some & PVC for the rest. Only my hot water lines are CPVC inside- rest of the stuff is PVC. It's going to be a gut job when I start upgrading.

      Hello Anthony. Many of our customers who do bathroom remodel projects in their older homes do encounter galvanized piping.

    • @randyaden2298
      @randyaden2298 2 роки тому

      Galvi is old news. only people with access panels are in low end apartments or people that don't care there is a panel on their wall. Which is rare af also there's much better pipe available now. People use Galvi nowadays when they can't afford to replace their plumbing or they don't know how to solder. Most homeowners see it as a simple fix. It's best to remove all of that crap pipe if you can afford it. That's why your tub water turns brown over here using Galvi nipples on tub spout lol wtf the spouts gonna rust then once you try to remove it it's gonna break shit in the wall probably and your back to opening the wall

    • @randyaden2298
