My personal chapter was initially founded in my head with the 3rd Edition Launch Box, about 25 years ago. To be honest I was mostly interested in Orks at the time (and to this day), but I needed the rules and someone for them to beat up on so I picked up the box. The dark eldar in the box got painted dark purple, black and were partial coated with some sparkly nail polish. A horde of boys got painted and the marines just kinda sat there until I saw this rooster in the farm section of our local zoo.
The bird was this interesting combination of dark reflective green, and bright warm orange and immediately made me want to paint a scheme similar to one of those bifurcated color schemes (like the Storm Lords) in these two colors. So I painted up a couple of marines with a Dark Angels-sorta green on their (from their point of view) right, and a rich orange I found on their right, with charcoal grey under armor for their bendy bits. I painted the helmets yellow, with dark, flat red lenses.
And there they sat for about 20 years....
Then right about when COVID hit I picked up Indomitus for something to do while in lockdown. I liked the new Primaris Marines (who looked more impressive than the previous 5'6" "Tiny Prince" Astartes) and thought about my old mostly-grey squad of marines from the 3rd Edition box again and built a bunch of taller grey guys and painted an army of Necrons like sandstone after finding Midwinter Minis.
When speed paints came out I bought a starter set because it had my chapter's colors and got to work.
All the little reliquaries and religious bits on the assault marines' and bladeguard vets' belts and the skeleton on the captain's shield in Indomitus put me in mind of a video I had seen on youtube explaining how the Primaris came about and how some of the Primaris chapters were born of traitor gene-seed. Putting those things together along with some of my original ideas about how I wanted my chapter to be a fast-attack chapter (like the White Scars, which again worked out with outriders in the Indomitus box), hailing from a George Lucus-style world patterned after Brazil, I decided that religion was sort of baked into them, and that they would act like zealous Medieval knights thanks perhaps in part to their Wordbearer gene-seed. They bear a heraldic Rooster/Hippogriff icon on their orange shoulder the symbol of the Chicken (with the 'ch' pronounced in a more like the 'ch' in 'chronic' with a long 'i' sound following) which they believe (since no one has seen an actual chicken in thousands of years) were 3-meter-long velociraptor-like, jungle-dwelling, pack predators. It's my little in-joke that the symbol of the chapter I now call _the Dawn Heralds_ is just a chicken which after all was the inspiration for their color scheme.

Very cool idea and pretty funny too. There are references to the chickens and donkeys in Ad Mech lore as well and they are completely warped too. Good motto too!

My chalter is called The Pilgrimage, inspired by Final Fantasy X (my favourite video game). They're a Salamanders successor chapter who fights for the people of the Imperium (in a more extreme manner than the Salamanders do), and they also have been pushing for a ton of change in the Imperium for what they believe to be the better. What that actually means, I don't know yet, only that it's serious enough that the chapter was declared renegade because of heresy.
In the present day, they're on the run with their AdMech and Imperial Knight allies. The AdMech are all about experimenting with xenos tech, and I'm not sure about the Knights yet.
The Pilgremage are falling to Tzeentch corruption, with Tzeentch promising them the power to change the Imperium.
The colours are mostly dark purple, red, and gold (based on the colours of the Bahamut summon from Final Fantasy X).
Also, tying in with the Salamanders heritage, I want to give every marine some sort of scaled cape, with the size varying depending on rank (statting from just covering one shoulder too nearly reaching their feet).
Most other details I either haven't figured out yet (like codex compliance) or probably aren't relevant (like corruption of the body/mind/soul). This is a chapter I've been slowly deleoping for almost a year now, but haven't done anything hobby-wise with beyond building the Space Marines from the 10th ed starter set and using the paint scheme on an objective marker and some base decorations for other models.

@@totalCoolerUsername I've got characters based on most of the party members from Final Fantasy X, like Tidus would be the company champion

I made a chapter of loyalist world eaters who becsme lost in the warp while traveling to istvaan three to help their loyalist brother's stuck on the planet. They however appeared in real space 10 thousand years later and with support of another homebrew chapter of a friend of mine was able to build up into a full blown chapter named the Hell Hounds.

Very cool concept and good use of the whole time moves differently in the warp!

hey man, it would be amazing if you would do a video showcasing how to do grimdark Raven Guard for beginners, I really liked your Death guard videos.
I'm just confused as to what to use for Raven guard, would you say that I can use the same techniques as you did but just switch the colors for RG colors?
Would be nice to have a video to follow

Hi, I would recommend you follow along with this Ravenwing Outrider video: ua-cam.com/video/EMjmYGvwTic/v-deo.html There you can learn to paint really cool looking black armour. White is much easier if you first paint with a light grey and then go over that with white.
Maybe I'll kitbash some Ravenguard when I can get my hands on a box of scourges for crow wings.
