You may not take to a Doctor, but given a little patience and tolerance you may find a Doctor you do like down the line. I love coffee revels, not everyone does. It's a matter of taste. Plus, I now recognise that bad scripts, small cheques from the BBC who want to kill off the science fiction money pit and a show runner in the wrong job, it can all contribute.

Each regeneration from the moment they are born till the moment they're gone they tend to have amazing character development showing different stages of emotions and ways to cope with it all as well as based on somewhat recent experiences.

      SomeKindaSpy ...the announcement of the intention to cancel was issued during Attack of the Cybermen, only the 2nd story of Six...the basis to cancel was based on Five's/Peter Davison's era and actually done on Seven/Sylvester McCoy's era...some of Colin's ratings were actually better than Four/Tom Baker's....one main reason the show had a reboot was Colin Baker's endless slaving away at Doctor Who conventions (more than the other Doctors) to a show that treated him abysmally and made him a scapegoat...the actual Regen of Five to Six is arguably the best, no nuclear bombs exploding, Five died from going toxic from Spectrox, he gave the antidote to Peri...

    Eh, this story wasn't that bad. None of Colin Baker's were really that bad to be honest. All in all he was a very underrated Doctor, and one that properly reminded the audience of just how alien he was. It's important to remember that the Doctor isn't meant to be a grand heroic figure that saves and sympathises with everyone. He's always done wrong things, and will continue to do so, but where it counts, he does make the right choices. He is just a mad man in a box, which makes him far more interesting, and I think we all need to thank Colin's Doctor for reminding us of that.

    2:05 This. This is why I will always love Colin Baker's Sixth Doctor. Was the writing for this era sometimes bad? Sure. But this Doctor remains one of my favorites because it reminds the audience that he is not *human*. He IS an alien, and operates under a different set of rules entirely, something that his companions often forget. After all, he does look awfully like them.
    2:17 One of the things I noticed about Five when I started watching was how jumpy and conflicted he always was. The Doctor's been pretending to be human for a while now to fit in, but that must be hard, hiding whole parts of yourself away.
    2:27 This part makes me kinda sad. Peri was there for his regeneration, a very vulnerable thing. She was the first face he saw, and she really didn't react well. It's understandable; she didn't know what was happening, but I think that reaction really hurt the Doctor. He'd just died in a very traumatic way and immediately upon getting a new body, his friend tells him that she'd rather he not exist, and that he doesn't look right. She really hasn't given him a chance yet, and he's been acting defensively because of it.

    I rather enjoyed Colin Baker as Doctor number Six. His was a truly alien Doctor, one that found most forms of convention to be hardly worth his time. Yet, as the series progressed, the Sixth Doctor showed remarkable passion for his "work", and even came to express a softer side to his personality that shows up again in later regeneration.His relationship to Peri starts out quite different from the one she had with the Fifth Doctor (he tries to kill her), but eventually they stop circling each other and form a bond as strong as any other Doctor/Companion duo.

      Chris McWilliams If it was, it would've been totally understandable. Much like the initial whining over Capaldi's casting after two very popular Doctors, Colin Baker probably had some naysayers at the start due to him coming after two very popular Doctors.
      That's kind of ironic, now that I think about it. Peter Capaldi came after two very popular Doctors, the first being considered by many fans to be the best ever and the second being the youngest to date. And Colin Baker came after two very popular Doctors, the first being considered by many fans to be the best ever and the second having been the youngest to that date.

      I've always been partial to Sylvester McCoy for some reason. They say your favorite is typically your first but not in this case.
      Tom Baker was my first and I get he's popular but it was way too silly for my taste (especially near the end as he got more and more sway to put more humor in).
      I don't like so much humor in my drama, it kills the drama. The occasional joke here and there is fine but Baker went way over the line in the course of his run and it ruined any attempts at drama whatsoever.
      McCoy's Doctor was dark, mysterious and unpredictable. Sure he did silly sometimes but it was more a disguise, a part he played than when Baker did it.

    I think if this episode had been just a bit better written it would have probably gone down better. Colin Baker makes a great Doctor, and if the episode had been more like the modern standard then people would have seen why this scene and his overall performance are actually very clever and interesting. Peter Capaldi's Doctor is similar in a way, the difference being that his first episode was brilliant and he warmed up a bit quicker than Colin. Still a great Doctor though, and he was removed far too soon.

    • @tomnorton4277
      @tomnorton4277 2 роки тому

      I think Season 8 succeeded DESPITE Peter Capaldi, not because of him. And I beg to differ on him warming up faster than Colin Baker did. Baker may not have had as much good writing as Capaldi did but he slipped into the role of the Doctor effortlessly. Capaldi would have been perfect for fighting in the Time War (as long as John Hurt did Seasons 8, 9 and 10 instead) or even better, portraying an incarnation of the Valeyard, but I didn't see the Doctor until well into Season 9.

    • @aarononeil9832
      @aarononeil9832 2 роки тому

      @@tomnorton4277 I mean this comment is several years old an series 9 hadn't even aired at that point. since then I've been able to watch and subsequently rewatch his three series, and honestly I still kinda stand by it though not in the same sense.
      Capaldi was brutal and cold in that first series, which was really cool and interesting but also a little out of nowhere, then next season he seemed to have a midlife crisis and went full goofy grandpa vibes until series 10 brought the balance between them that made him (in my opinion) a damn near perfect Doctor who had inconsistent but sometimes brilliant writing.
      By contrast, I've not yet gotten to Colin Baker's years on my classic watching but I know from snippets I have seen that he was always brilliant in the role, if a little callous and volitile compared to other incarnations though the callousness was present in others for sure. What I have been able to do is listen to numerous audios starring him, where he has rapidly become one of my absolute favourite Doctors particularly when paired with Evelyn who works with him much better than Peri (and I don't even dislike Peri, they just had a very hostile relationship that turned people off both of them)

      As for Love and Monsters, however, there was absolutely nothing to like in this episode Kay's "comedic" acting for a start, the Abzorbaroff(is this how you spell it?), and God, that last kissing scene really ruined this already-horrible storyline.
