A lot of people like Bigfry are complaining about this game thinking it’s like every other extraction shooter. What they don’t seem to understand is that you not a hero, you’re a scavenger. You stay out of the fight as much as you can. I hope the devs don’t get discouraged by whiners like Bigfry
I don't think they will, they did something a lot of other devs don't, and offered play testing and pre-early access gameplay opportunities to regular gamers, people who donated to their team, and whatnot. Obviously streamers still got access too, but since they let the average Joe play their game weeks before early access release, I think they know the target audience they're going to listen to. No videogame journalists, not streamers, no one with their name attached to a brand.
About the minefields, they're not literal mines. If you get right up to the edge of the map, you get a red X on a black square that pops up, and if you go past that you die, but there are no explosives. I was curious, so I experimented.
One thing I've learned so far. Always prestige your character if you can! Only under halfway to max on one, and his health if double of what it was, run faster, seem to be "tankier". Same with leveling up guns, rep, etc. It by no means makes you "the hero", but you dont die as fast, and its easier to get away from the worst encounters :p
I am absolutely terrified of this level especially after I had a run in with the grabber. Scorched and Mesa make me feel safe because they are so open. Lord beer me strength.
I sooo love the "oh shit!" effect some levels have in this game. A jaded 38 year old gamer like me should not feel these feelings, but this game creates them sooo damn well :)
This game has been an unexpected excellent chance to discover gaming content creators with critical thinking, since it inherently filters out the rest.
What im enjoying are the people who are like "you cant get into fights!" And its like you are right. You cant get into fights thinking like a cod player. You can get into fights like a scav though. I have gotten into a lot of gunfights... picking off the last, weakened enemies after they are done shooting eachother. Just pick off the stragglers!
You can get in fights if you bring big firepower, but it doesn't mean you'll last and it'll cost you a ton of ammo. Lots of group session matches where a guy with an AA12 wrecks everyone on my channel later today, definitely check out TFW videos I post today its a totally different experience than my stealth run!
I love doing runs like that, where you hardly if ever shoot anything because there's so much around you that you'll draw way too much attention. The suppressors are a bit OP in my opinion, but it is nice to have them. I think in my next runs after I get off work, I'm waiting until a firefight and Im going to go loud in support of the Europans, to test if they'll see me as a threat even though I helped them. They've got a lot of work to do on the AI, but I'm exited to see where this goes. Worst experience though, was having a kill team spawn directly on me, blow me away, then when I went back in to grab my loot, I got stuck in the map and had to return to the innards and lost twice as much. But hey, it happens.
I dont think that level of AI has been implemented yet, its more or less a "toss of dice" atm if npcs will view as a treath or not. But the devs have said this is part of their plan for the game. So with some AI tweaking, and work, I really hope this will become part of the game. Would love for a whole squad of soldiers to pass you by/leave you alone because you helped them in a fight :) Maybe even some fun voice lines/interaction ;)
Ok so, let me preface this with - I SUCK at this game, and i'm slowly starting to warm up to it. A lot of the times I have died I admit have been because I've done something stupid. That said, enemies are spawning in right on top of me. It isn't an excuse. I have video footage of it happening. It's annoying and frankly is ruining the experience. I can spend upwards of 20 minutes in a game, methodically moving around, being a sneaky fracker as the game intends you to be, and then it spawns a dozen dudes on my head and kills me. Needless to say I have to close the game and touch grass for a bit after that. The lack of ANY feedback from the game in regards to how an AI considers me seems like a oversight IMO. I simply cannot find a cause between one second being ignored and the next being fired upon. I'm not asking for anything outrageous, just some sort of feedback that tells me "Unless you do something stupid like loot or kill his buddies this guy will ignore you"
I think there is some confusion on how the prestige system works, so I'd like to leave this comment to clarify. The pool of XP that you draw from to upgrade skills for characters is entirely seperate from the XP used to prestige a character. Once you have enough XP to prestige a character, you will not gain any more XP until you prestige. Every time you prestige, your XP cap gets bigger and bigger, meaning you can use more and more skill upgrades. If you are "saving" XP and not spending it on upgrades thinking you will be able to prestige faster, you are just hurting yourself. Spend those points, unlock those upgrades!
As someone who followed the game for a bit, and have been playing since it launched in EA. My first few days with the game was frustrating as all hell, jank, bugs and weird spawn rates killed me most of the time(like 70% of the time). But just since their hot-fix patch yesterday, the game has opnened up soooo much more, and gives a much better feeling for what it will be when its done. Now I die 90% of either greed, bad descions or not paying attention ;) It is awesome!! The "wow" effect of the levels and design is just incredible, and when the AI and stuff actually works, it is magical to play trough ❤ If they manage to tweak the AI more, polish the game, and follow their vision of what the game should be. It will litterally be my go to game for years to come. The blend of horror, extraction shooter and in general, feeling like "just a guy" in a grimdark universe like this, is something I've always wanted in game. Also love how honest the devs are, and how well they communicate with their fans. The Forver Winter is something special already, and I cannot wait to see how it develops further on. " Just one more run" has become the bane of my productivity! :p
Game definitely deserves criticism. And we shouldn't be afraid to point out the shortcomings. It's only going to make the game BETTER since the devs are awesome and listening to all the feedback. Yes, enemy spawning is broken. They will spawn on top of you for no reason. But there is also a big element of skill already associated with the game. Just running into soldiers or in the middle of a firefight is going to get you smoked. Just because some bugs exist doesn't mean you can use them as an excuse for messing up. At the end of the day it's an anti-shooter, it's still basically pre-alpha, and it's going to be amazing.
One thing I don't like is the audio design. Sounds way too muted and boomy. Gunfire and explosions have a lot more midrange/high-frequency "pop" to them than this. The sound alone should be terrifying.
@@christianzilla It varies a lot, wich is kinda the issue. We absolutely need more consistent despawn rates. Preferably none at all. As it really is excting seeing a heli or drone go down, and then make a mental map of where it is, so you can go try loot it before extraction ;)
@@christianzilla I believe what happens with the drones is that the humans drop a body, a backpack with the loot and a weapon if any. The body will despawn quickly, leaving the loot. The drones drop just the body, which contains the loot, but has the body quick despawn timer.
I watched the video, he just played the game identical to his first playthrough and got rinsed like a dishrag. He has the mentality like most games, that your character is the main character, when you aren't. You're stuck between three factions of psycho cyborg super soldiers, zombies, and robots, the weakest of whom are better than you at your prime. But gamers like Bigfry think that isn't fair lmao.
