@@askjapan9669 There seems to be quite a lot of videos about investing in property in Japan (as a foreigner) - but the rental rates seems to be quite low. In fact, there are Akiyas all over Japan, and I can't understand why a person would just abandon a house if there is value to it.
@@per_growth there are several reasons I've seen after seven years living here. The most common is that Japanese see a house as a permanent dwelling and not an investment. Once they buy a house they live there until death. They seldom move, therefore there's no increase in value. Another less well known reason to us foreigners, is religious. When a relative dies, many families bring their ancestors to their homes to rest eternally. Moving the ancestors requires a series of ceremonies and they prefer to not disturb the dead, so they don't change homes. This was told to me by two different people in their 70s. Another reason is that most houses are prefabricated and are meant to be destroyed and a new structure built in its place. Historically, Japanese only built from wood and no stone. Even the castles were always meant to be dismantled and transported to where they were needed next. This mindset remains in the culture. Those are just three reasons I can come up with during my lunch break. I'm sure there are more as to why homes here don't accrue value.
LOL - The Pokemon card part was hilarious, especially after earlier losses on scratchies and horse betting... LOL I laughed so hard at his reaction to the cards I had tears in my eyes. That was gold. I loved this episode I will watch it again and again.
A friendly reminder: you don't make a quick buck out ot gambling. It's irrelevant. If you don't believe me just count every dollar you spent on it for a 2-3 month. You will be shocked.
You are already a winner before gambling, all it takes is one win before you are hooked and trapped like every other gambler. Dont let it ruin your life and the people in your life.
I'm not one to give good life advice; but if there's advice i DO know, it's DO NOT GAMBLE!!! That stuff will slowly take a toll on you mentally, financially, socially, morally, and maybe even physically if you just start gambling all day. It's a deadly addiction among others so... Please just stay away from it.
@@askjapan9669 I'm sorry to break is too you my man, but gambling is the exact opposite; it's a big L. It takes your money away slowly, so you don't really realize how much money you're actually losing. Then when you hit a win and gain a large amount of money quickly (extremely rare,) then you'll think you've got a big win; only to realize later that you've actually lost almost the same amount of money you've gained, due gambling and losing. For example: Let's say you started with $200. You gambled away $180 and lost; but at the last moment you win and gain $250. You might think that's a pretty large sum, but then you do the math and realize you only really gained 250-180= $70; which is NOT a big win. So now you have $270, which is insufficient, so you gamble again and again and again; until eventually you DON'T win big just as you're about to go bankrupt. So you're left with nothing and are now forced to sell your stuff to make ends meet. It's a psychological trap that enslaves people. Don't let it enslave you.
I mean, buying a pack of pokemon cards every now and then go for it. If you like it and it makes you happy as a little hobby that’s cool. But in general, I wouldn’t actually do the real gambling because the house always wins by design my man. It’s just too unpredictable! Also, check to see if they have subsidized housing where you can get a house cheaper or a permanent apartment on a fixed income? Because a home should bring you peace and not stress and if you need to downsize for the sake of your family screw it. Just do it man. Get yourself into a better position.
I agree with the majority that you shouldn't gamble. You should think about making a new video every time you want to gamble, with the reactions you're getting it will probably be a lot more profitable for you. That's without the fact that you have been inspiring and bringing together people from all around the world with these videos. Way I see it, it's a rare win-win scenario!
This isn't a good idea! You'll more money than earning. Try a side job or maybe your wife can work remote part-time while the kids are in school if that exists in Japan :) Or maybe anything part-time like a waitress or office assistant. Sorry to hear about your financial situation. You just need a little extra stream of income.
Please sir, I don’t want you to let your life go to waste due to gambling. I understand your situation but I don’t think it would be the wisest of choices, I also recognize the inflation that Japan is currently undergoing. But for your own sake, and your families sake, stop gambling.
The loss is about 2000 yen. Recently came back from Japan. This amount is enough to survive a day in Japan and have 3 economy but good meals. The guy is sinking himself down.
You're my new favorite channel! As everyone else is saying, be careful with using gambling as a way to "make money" - you will just lose it. I imagine you're half-joking, and you don't seem to have a gambling problem, but if you do gamble, then do it: rarely, for fun, and for little money. I daydream about the lottery, too :) If I ever hit it big, I'll send some your way! Take care!
No gambling. No alcohol. No smoking. This makes you addicted to them once you... Speaking from childhood experience. I am now an adult and still hate it until my kids are grown up become adult. I have never and will never touch it or try. Check with your municipality about welfare allowances for under age children or elderly eligibility.
Brother, do not gamble to try and pay off your mortgage. It will end up putting you in a worse financial place, and the mental battle of "trying to make it back" will be the beginning of the end, the chasing of your losses that lead to losing everything eventually. Instead of gambling, learn to daytrade or something similar, it is very scalable. BUT BE VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL AND DO NOT USE YOUR REAL MONEY INITIALLY. There are simulators where you can practice without risking real money which i highly suggest. Save your money for a bit, no toys, no spending money on anything that isn't a necessity (I watch your content just to hear you talking about life, you don't need to always be buying stuff to show us). Don't be hard on yourself, life is hard, the economy is not the same as it once was and it is becoming harder and harder for younger generations to own anything and stay ahead.
You didn't go crazy and blow a huge amount. You def. were sensible in your bets. Gambling wide open would make your financial situation worse but what you were doing I don't think it's going to be super detrimental to your overall finances. I'm not sure how having a side hustle or business from home works where you live but you could find something with low initial cost up front and try to craft or something and maybe that would help in some way. Hang in there and keep on going no matter what. You only truly lose if you give up!
I really like your accent when you speak English 😊 I love to buy starch off tickets here in Texas too. I’ve won $5 so far 😂 hopefully one day I hit big!

If I could suggest something, you have a great idea for a UA-cam channel here. It's real, true, Japanese life. Please continue sharing that with us and invest the time into the channel. It could potentially help you make some additional money in the long term.
In a time where all Japanese content is super produced, overly positive, and commercialized, this channel is a breath of fresh air. I think you have something here. Keep up the good work. We are rooting for you!
Gambling will lose you money in the long term. Spend that money on your mortgage, food, and your family instead. This is just dumb…
This is a good direction for the channel.
Thanks
I love your videos and have been watching you for a long time, but please don't gamble too much. You wont win, but you can use the money to help support your family or save it
Stop gambling, u will never mame money from it. Find better ways like long term investments.
Fact, i don’t understand why he just doesnt buy a global index and rather than gambling the money he could invest it and get 10% richer each year, rule of 72 tells you that you’ll double up every 3-4 years because of compounding
Sometimes occasionally its nice to gamble, just dont get addicted. Youre a nice man; I hope you and your family have good health and fortune and a good overall life. You make nice content. 😊👍
Oh no, not gambling!
I'm sorry you didn't win this time, good job on such an interesting video!
Bros actually doing better than most people and people are trying to give advice 🤣
Thansk
I am so glad to see your channel blowing up! Keep up the great work, and thank you for being so open with us. :) I am half-Japanese; my father is Japanese and my mother is French Canadian. I just subscribed now, but I've already watched 6 or 7 of your videos and really enjoy them. You will have 100k subscribers in no time if you keep it up, so huge congrats! 😊
Thanks, I have to appreciate all my audiences
My dude you got more odds for you to become rich through random events in life than throwing your money away like that.
I understand that but can't stop imagning what if I win the lottery.
Your channel have grown so much brother, keep it up
Can you make a video about the financial possibilities of real estate investing in Japan?
Ok, let me think
@@askjapan9669 There seems to be quite a lot of videos about investing in property in Japan (as a foreigner) - but the rental rates seems to be quite low. In fact, there are Akiyas all over Japan, and I can't understand why a person would just abandon a house if there is value to it.
@@per_growth houses in Japan don't accrue value So unless you are buying an apartment building real estate investment in Japan is a terrible decision.
@@BanBanChi Thanks for this. Would you mind explaining why this is so?
LOL
I laughed so hard at his reaction to the cards I had tears in my eyes.
Thanks but I need a big win for my life to change
@@askjapan9669 NOOOOOOO. だめだよ!!!
You are so clever.
Yes, gambling cost money but also it bring entertainment, doing things in moderation is fine. Life is to enjoy.
Lost money or have fun
Nice to see you out and about.
Avoid gambling if you can.
Take care, friend.
Dont gamble!
since this comment you have gained 1k subscribers, just around 12 hours you went from 30k to 31k
Gambling is not the answer. It's a scam. Your best bet is a side business involving this youtube.
I once won a very large sum on horse racing 10years ago. But never won the same ever since. So never say it never happens, because I did win.
Me too, I won only one in the past but still is making bets
Please sir, I don’t want you to let your life go to waste due to gambling. I understand your situation but I don’t think it would be the wisest of choices, I also recognize the inflation that Japan is currently undergoing. But for your own sake, and your families sake, stop gambling.
I like how you explain what its like in Japan. I can't wait to visit Japan.
The loss is about 2000 yen. Recently came back from Japan. This amount is enough to survive a day in Japan and have 3 economy but good meals. The guy is sinking himself down.
It's true because of the weak YEN.
Just a small gambling makes me feel happy
Stop gambling and just start a gofundme for your house
Japan is so strange and interesting to most westerners. You just walking around pointing out very simple things would get you many views!!
I really like your accent when you speak English 😊
I love to buy starch off tickets here in Texas too. I’ve won $5 so far 😂 hopefully one day I hit big!
Thanks
You have wife and two kids and job, you are so lucky, count your blessings. Maybe you just have depression. Look at what you have, not what you could loose. That will help with motivation. Wish you the best, life can be hard.
Thanks
Remember, it’s not gambling if you win. 🎉
Only if I win?
@@askjapan9669 if you lose its gambling 😞
