Amazing work as always. Though the logos are super cool and amazingly done I think they look out of place on a classic chessboard but the client gets what the client wants. You sir are a master craftsman. Thanks for sharing this video.
Hey Mike, Another fantastic board with a stunningly beautiful box. The contrasting timbers really compliment each other. Thankyou for sharing. Regards James
Very nice set. At 40 lbs I wouldn't make it but that doesn't mean I wouldn't take it ! LOL. For delicate screws in hard wood I will often tap them or run a sacrificial harder screw to cut the threads a little better. As someone who plays chess at least seven hours a week I really admire a lot of the sets you have created.
Beautiful build again, but that music...oh my. One question, there is no support for the mitred joints on the exterior box, aren't you concerned about separation? Thanks for showing this, inspirational.
The issue with solid hardwood is that it expands and contracts when humidity levels fluctuate. Plywood is much more stable, so it provides a good substrate that will stabilize wood movement when the hardwood squares are glued to it.
The climate is not too bad where I live, so I can often find a few days in a row in the winter that are in the mid-50's, which is fine for spraying on a finish. If it does get too cold out, I can warm up my workshop and use a spray tent. It's not ideal, but it works.
I think I bought those at Lee Valley Tools about 30 years ago. There are a lot of variations of this type of corner clamp available on Amazon. Here's an example of one: amzn.to/3NSRhON
Once again, you knocked it out of the park. Fantastic work.
Beautiful work, Mike! Bravo. 🤗
Very nice! Thanks for sharing your talent with others.
As per usual...absolutely stunning Mike! This is one for the books!

Perfection all ‘round! Video, music, narration and of course, the beautifully crafted chessboard and box.
Thank you, Ray!

I think this is your most elaborate project to date, great job.
I agree. It's like three projects in one video.

A work of art 👌

Love it.
Wow! Absolutely magnificent! Really love the choice of different timbers in this project. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks for subscribing!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!
Amazing work. Just found you on you tube. Curious as to why you use a plywood substrate instead of a solid piece of wood? Love your boards. Thanks.
The issue with solid hardwood is that it expands and contracts when humidity levels fluctuate. Plywood is much more stable, so it provides a good substrate that will stabilize wood movement when the hardwood squares are glued to it.
On this I was wondering what thickness you would do the hardwood squares.
Wow!
How do you manage your finish work in the winter months ? (fine kindling)

Really enjoyed the build from start to finish.
The precision & attention to detail is superb. 😎👍
Where did you get the metal corner clamps?

Can I hire you for a chess board?
