I even miss these old time commercials... I truly miss the past. The sun felt different, the air was different. The laughter was pure and authentic. I miss it all so much! I'm sad at how things evolved a little. :(
Yes I am 65 and I agree with u also I thought it did feel like the air,sun sky, moon, the days, the weather was different ,but thanks to u I k now now it's just not me. I really wish things were the same
I watch these and it makes me want to go back home . Go back to being a kid . I will always love these shows and I'm glad you left the old commercials in too . Thank you for sharing this video on UA-cam !! Love it !! 💖💖💖
Bob Hope and Lucille Ball were friends from their old radio days and being in USO shows during WW2. I saw this special when new on tv, and I recall the ads. My family never missed a Bob Hope special since 1964!!!
That was a great tribute to Lucy. She and Bob Hope were great together. So much fun to watch these old shows. I love the elegance of the older shows. Fantastic.
I loved seeing this again. A wonderful tribute to Lucy, America’s Queen of Comedy. Thank you, Mr. Bob Hope, and thank you, Vic Ritchey for posting this NBC Special.
Wow this was in 1989 - 31 yrs ago all these greats had been here great talents. Thank you for posting this great memory. I loved the commercials too! ♥️
I truly enjoyed this and seeing old commercials just pure timeless the jello commercial brings back memories b4 bill cosby Maria shriver as a anchor woman not the governor wife such a diffrent time then
Yes, there was a time when even the commercials on television were more watchable. Today one sees the same commercials repeated endlessly (sometimes the exact same commercial shown back-to-back), hardly ever for fun and useful home products (such as candy, cereal, coffee, laundry detergent, toys) anymore, but for charities (children born with deformities and tortured animals) and class action lawsuits (mesothelioma) on behalf of personal injury law firms, what some people used to call "ambulance chasers" or "shyster lawyers." Personally, I will take commercials for "Mr. Whipple" and his Charmin toilet paper, Jello, and "ring around the collar" Wisk detergent plugs over commercials about suffering animals and children, or ones with dire warnings about pharmaceuticals. Some of the older commercials were even entertaining, such as the Alka-Seltzer spots--the Italian-American couple with the husband complaining about his heartburn ("I can't believe I ate the whole thing") and the Jewish guy with a food-forcing relative "Try it, you'll like it." And the ones with regular characters were almost always amusing--"Madge the manicurist"(Jan Miner) for Palmolive liquid, "Josephine the plumber" (Jane Withers) for Comet cleanser, and "Rosie the waitress" (Nancy Walker) for Bounty paper towels., and the "time to make the donuts" guy for Dunkin'' Donuts. About the only funny commercials today with a regular character are the ones with "Flo" for Progressive Insurance.

@@vritchey She,like most pretty young ladies, were advised,to use your beauty to feed yourself - before you lose it. Bob and Lucy had great chemistry that oddly was never addressed by media folk over the years .They made 3 films together I believe and worked together for charities, too
I was there and got Lucy's autograph when I was a kid. I told her me and my grandma liked the show. She was nice. She had an 8x10 handy or I got it. BTW I was in the green room and the only ones laughing at the monologue was the writers. The specials lasted way beyond what I would assume as profitable. The one with the football players was actually pretty funny. My mom worked for his production company. Not the nicest guy but american icon.
I just watched all 6 seasons on Hulu. There were a few episodes missing...don't know what that is about. But I loved every single one what a cast of characters. I think if this show would have been done with even one of these parts cast to someone else, the world would have felt there was something missing.
may i know where did you watched those episodes? i’m searching Here Lucy & I Love Lucy on youtube but i can’t find any 😢 only short bloopers not the full episodes..
Have to correct the record. Lucy had nothing to do with that multi-camera system to which Betty alludes. Matter of fact, it was probably shown to Desi by Al Simon and cinematographer Al Fruend and they got it from Ralph Edwards, who got it from Jerry Fairbanks who employed it on "Public Prosecutor" in the late 1940's, but Desi thought it ideal to film these sitcoms like a play and use this system to avoid those minefields Betty discussed. Desi gets credit for applying it in a new genre. Lucy gets credit for the brilliant comedy that got captured by it. When Lucy was working there weren't many'of those ' dead spaces' to worry about
Do you have a Danny Thomas special that aired, I believe, in January 1970 (filmed a few months earlier)? It had a "Make Room for Daddy" sketch which apparently led to the revival series "Make Room for Granddaddy".
My mother liked wstching I Love Lucy. The Lucy Show. Heres Lucy. Don't know if she watched Lucy as a grandmother. My mother wasn't one for memorabilia but I don't believe that marks being a fan - just liking her performances!:

Bob and Lucy had an affair before she was with Desi - Bob was quite the ladies man, he also had an affair with Doris Day and hundreds of women - he always kept a girlfriend in an apartment that he paid for - he did this into his 80's - his wife Delores looked the other way, she lived to 102 and Bob lived to 100. Not to take anything away from Lucy, Betty White said it was Lucy’s idea to use the 3 cameras for shooting the show. That is not correct. It was Desi’s idea. All the books written about Desi & Lucy give Desi the credit for implementing the 3 cameras & also doing it in front of a live audience. He contacted Karl Freud, a well known cinematographer, to see how best to do this. Desi did not want to go New York to film the show. Film was the only way to get a clear picture. He also wanted it filmed in front of a studio audience because he said Lucy performed better with an audience. Lucy, & also the people that worked behind the scene, always gave Desi credit for the success of Desilu Studios & ILL. The stress of running the studio, performing on the show & financial obligations led to his eventual alcoholism. He sold his share of Desilu to Lucy 3 years after their divorce. Lucy ran the studio for 5 years before she sold it. Lucy was the talent & Desi the brains behind the success of Desilu.
I always felt that Lucy and Bob were having a fling. I don't believe it as true because he was loyal to Dolores his wife, but was Lucy not loyal to Desi after he cheated on her so much.)?? I share your feelings.
You are correct... it's not just you imagination.
Two comic geniuses, that can never be replaced😁
i love the elegance and class of celebrities of the yesteryears
I was just thinking the very same thing.
Yes one of my favorites EVER was Ava Gabor (Lisa) on Green Acres. Everything she wore was spot on georgus, and Carol Burnett on her show as well.
Agreed...🔆
I have always admired BH for his acting, but more importantly, for all he did for our servicemen and servicewomen. He and Lucy were the BEST.
Thank you for sharing this. I had never seen this before. Was wonderful all my favorite people.

Yes, I remember these commercials. It really wasn't all that long ago. We'll, I guess 31yrs. is a while. Seems like yesterday though. 🙂
