LloydSkyLion played again and I was cringing like crazy 😬 especially when yuna gets her dress-sphere back and starts dancing randomly. Oh god it was super embarrassing 😳
FFX ending made me sad to a whole new level. It really hit somewhere that Yuna and Tidus wouldn’t be together after that long journey. I’ve never once played X-2 but I’m glad I could watch a 13 min video to see the next 5 seconds after Tidus swims up and learn Tidus got to stay. I’m also conflicted
I just remember when they're on top of the airship. Yuna tells brother "higher", and he says "Roger!" Then yuna again "faster!" Then brother "RRROOGGGGGGEEEEEERRRRR!!!"
This game had one of the most shocking commercials to promote the game. The commercial showed the tidus and Yuna running from soldiers and getting gunned down
Tidus is the distorted memory the faith had of shuyin. As the faith were dreaming for over 1000 years after countless generations and cycles of life and death Tidus was created. That's why he was so uncanny to shuyin.
I guess I'm the only person who totally loves this game without being ashamed. Obviously writing is less grand than other ff games but I just felt the job system and combat are fun.
I mean I'm glad Yuna and Titus got back together in the end, but it kinda seemed like it ahould have been more of a central focus for the game with how x ended off
I enjoyed this game. It was nice and light hearted, but did have serious moments too. It had a great battle system, and I really enjoyed this game. Unappreciated since most people just turn it off after the opening.
+Rhast K I agree. I really like the light-heart approach to a war that lasted for more than one thousand years. FFX-2 is about creating a new future and living a new life and being free from all the choas Spira endured. Why not kick back and enjoy the fruits of labor in a post-spira? FFX-2 is one of my fave games. It's a continuation of post-war events, not an comparison.
the reason most of us turned the game off after the opening is because it COMPLETELY undermines the events and ending of FFX. Yuna just experienced the most traumatic thing in her life and the first scene was of her singing a pop song at a concert??? no. it was an INSULT. I was completely shocked in the opening and to be honest I was mad. but for the people who DID end up completing the game we realized that that was Lenne, not Yuna. But square enix made a REALLY bad decision making that the opening of the game. they should have made the opening of Yuna finding the sphere that made her become a sphere hunter (with who she thought was Tidus), and THEN jump into the light heartedness of the game. Not start off with someone who just lost the love of her life after dedicating her life to brining peace to the world acting as if nothing happened and singing and dancing.
Morninngg Keenan eh it doesn't really undermine the events of the prior game since it really isn't Yuna singing pop songs it's even implied it's not here in the opening cinematic with the character intros with hers being "Yuna?" But to each their own if you don't like it that's cool
Morning K, I have your back. I would have preferred to get eased into this different Spira rather than have it slap me in the face with pop music, especially after such a powerfully painful ending from the first X. I also cannot get over the plot point where civil war is stopped by a concert... that is just poor writing in my opinion. The sheer idea ended my "suspense of disbelief" and made me realize just fictional (fake) this fictional story really is. I want to get lost in the world of FFX, not get reminded that it is all make believe.
Rhast can’t blame hem too much come on;-). I ‘m in the grey zone. I bought it cause of the prequel finale and I was waiting to see Tidus back. After the singing cut scene at 3/4 of the game I felt not really involved emotionally ,aside for a slight nostalgia as I loved the 10. I started thinking tidus was just shyiun and that’s it which got me even more put off so I sold it (first ff I ever sold before beating the game and I never stopped doing so with all the following disappointments aside for 15 which I’ve been waiting to improve till now). I’m glad at least Yuna got Tidus back...if anything
I slogged my way through X Remaster and couldn't imagine going through X-2. You saved me from either playing it or watching 6 hours of cut-scenes... Thanks!!!
I remember playing this game from dusk until dawn in 1 sitting. I don't think I've ever done that for another game. It's not even that I liked this game, but I wanted to see what happened to tidus.
I think the reason this Recap is so much shorter than the other ones is because the narrator left out several different scenarios and alter endings. Such as the choice of choosing New yevon over the youth leage, the Guado Genocide and the ending where Yuna chooses to let Tidus go.
these alternatives - while it is totally valid to choose them yourself - are not canon. the ending of ffx clearly shows which path is the one that fits into the storyline. you could consider the other ones what-if scenarios
I know its fan service, but the best part about this game was the good ending with Tidus coming back. I hope they retcon the audio file they added with FFX/X2 and do not make another sequel. Knowing Yuna and Tidus end up together is enough.
I remember as a kid I hated this game because my stupid ass found the Lure Bracer, and I equipped it not knowing what it did, and I got so mad there was a random encounter every 1.25 seconds. The encounter rate was already insanely high in this game to begin with. Maybe I’ll play it again.
I never got that ending where Yuna and Tidius reunite! I completed the game sooo many times but I guess not fully 100% as there were multiple outcomes\endings.
You don't even need 100% actually, you need 90% and then during the scene when Yuna is in the farplane, seperated from Paine and Rikku, you have to press X like 4 times to whistle. There is no indication of this being neccessary, so I don't blame you for missing it.
Wow. This is awesome. I love this. Thank you! I won't have time to play this so I'm glad I know what happens without having to go through the whole game.
Really enjoyed this game. Kind of the Sailor Moon game we never got. Poppy themes and all that aside, the jobs and combat were prolly some of my most favorite in FF period.
I preferred the “bad” ending where she accepts Titus death and cherishes the memories as she walks towards the uncertainty of her new life free of sin and Veg
I love this game because it gave us a rather unique perspective within the RPG genre; a chance to see how the world adjusts and moves on after the world ending and changing event. Made even more special because I just love the world of Spira.
i love "aftermath" sequels, where instead of scaling up the conflict indefinitely the world gets to process what happened and characters have differing stances. pokemon black and white 2 would be another cool example. (and maybe tlou2? even though that one doesn't really feel less oppressing than the 1st)
Finally I know the story of X2, I could never play this game even though I tried, with the guide book. I just couldn't take the battle system or some of the lines in the story and conversations. Plus Final Fantasy 10 was the first Final Fantasy game I played and 100% completed. So I was with a lot of people hoping for a prequel game. By the way, Final Fantasy 7 was the second Final Fantasy game I played and 99% completed... (I missed one matairia on that dame train...)
FF x-2 suffer immensely from the happy go lucky childish tone of the introduction. And yet, it's the best jobtype final fantasy game with a very active interesting gameplay refined from FF3 and FF5. FF12 have a job system but with no interest has it only mean something in the beginning.
Great summary for this game. It was concise and easy to follow. I remember getting to the end right before Vegnagun but for some reason I got busy and never went back to finish this game. I always said I'd go back because I loved FFX so much I wanted to know what the hell happened to Tidus. Was he a dream? Did he have to go back to his time? Did he die? Thank for answering a question in my head for over a decade.
I love how this game was and it’s strange how much people hated it. It was just a fun lighthearted (mostly) adventure, and yes it may not be as big or as grand as the prequel but I will always hold this one close to my heart. ❤️
I do love the nice ending, but I can't get through with the game itself. The combat system is too chaotic and the new grid system just screams meh to me.
I could be wrong but isn't the Youth League the best/correct option to get 100% first play through? If I recall I get higher % than New Yevon. I never got that last garment sadly. Wasn't really my favorite Final Fantasy game to be honest.
X-2's plot isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It's just that the stuff that people complain about is pretty much front-loaded in Chapters 1 and 2.
Ahhh.. Happy ending closure for Yuna and Tidus! I've never felt so bloody happy for that ending. After that awfully depressing ending in FFX i'm so glad they got back together. I mean one can only speculate so much so with the ending with Tidus underwater.
Well. Technically the ending of ffx showed us tidus was a dream the fayths produced for Yuna to fall out of love with Seymour and defeat sin, they just didn't realize how much in love she would be, so they gave her a second chance to have tidus back by fixing what shuyin originally tried to fix that caused sin in the first place.
FFX - Girls edition. Thanks for summing up what i couldnt manage to play as a kid, now i know the outcome without the horrible writing and system. Dont get me wrong. FFX is one of the best games ever created. FFX-2 not so much
I bought the game and remember seeing one comment online back in the day describe them game as a game version of a panty raid and I couldn’t think of the game the same after that. 😄
The story and the character “development” were very cringeworthy, but the battles and the battle system were a lot of fun. Once you get over the fact that you are quite literally playing dress-up to defeat monsters, it’s a lot of fun. One of the early adopters of New Game+ too.
Funny thing is I could not get in to the gameplay but I enjoyed the Characters in this game. I like how they handled Yuna. Bravely Defeault and a lot of other games with job systems also have different outfits fore each job.
God this shit was cringey and it was like doing an errand it wasn’t fun to play that much man I was bored when I re-played the game, they should make a remake of legend of dragoon that was a good freaking game with a really good detailed plot and I like doing the fight through because it makes more engaged to fighting
OMG Yuna...being independent, making her own decisions, soo strange.... Character development, what is that?????? Why not just make Yuna all like "If I can't be a summoner and *Die* for everyone, I guess I'll go take my place in the kitchen, sandwiches anyone?" Character growth.....pfffbtt.
TheLittleMerwolf thank you so much. I get so angry when these chauvinistic dudes can't except when women are front runners. They can only be side characters only there for fan service. I loved the Charlie's Angels-esque theme for this game
I tried to play this game when it released...but, just couldn't get into this one. I just didn't enjoy this game. Thanks for making this recap. Now, I at least know how the story happened. Unfortunately, though, this further confirmed for me that I likely wouldn't have enjoyed this game.
I will never understand why they made this weird ass plot here. They had a plot, finding tidus... the tidus lookalike, and the way they used the new plot to make tidus seem like a footnote just barely remembered at the end of the game just doesn’t make sense to me
This game is pretty fun. I enjoy it a lot. I don't think I've ever 100% it though. Still. I think it's more for Casual players and not so much for competitive gameplay. Of course, It's just an opinion
I still remember the complete disappointment of opening the menu to find the sphere grid was replaced by a shitty dress system. couldnt finish the game cause i couldnt take it seriously.
lets face it X-2 was a massive cash grab taking advantage of X's success, it shouldn't have happened. Its like the dead or alive volleyball equivalent of final fantasy.
I could not really get in to the gameplay but I did enjoy the characters and story a lot. It was really interesting seing how Yuna is after she no longer has to be the prime and proper summoner to make people happy. Now she can do here own thing. I really like how they handled Yunas character in this game.
@@mattyoblobber Uncomfortable? That reminds me that I heard a lot of people complained about the fanservice which means sexy character designs if I am not wrong which I found amusing since FFX outsines FFX-2 in terms of sexy Character designs with Shiva on the team. Atleast in my opinion. When I was a kid I found Shiva beatiful without relizing that she is sexy. I think I did not even knew that word back then. I also had no problem with the X-2 outfits. And now I dont mind if a character design is sexy as long as it locks good. Which kinda leads to me not even thinking about if a design is supppose to be sexy. And When I notice it does not bother me. Sexy is to me a normal a superfical character trait like cutness. Although Fanservice sometimes leads to some ugly designs. The X-2 ones where to me not exactly memroable but not bad. So as a kid I did not know and now I did not mind. I dont know if that is what made you feel uncomfortable but gameplay aside none of FFX-2 I found uncomfortable ore cringy. Not to bash on the gameplay but it did not click with me. I remember as a kid being terrified of the Mega Tomberrys
@@sofaris576 i just felt like it was made for thirsty fans who had a crush on yuna and rikku and nothing else because it didn't really wrap up the story either, couldn't take it seriously whatsoever.
Pros and cons of Final Fantasy X-2 +Improved localization from predecessor +Fast, frenetic and fun gameplay +Wealth of content, expanded further by International/Remaster editions +Competent soundtrack -Middling storyline that takes too long to start and even ruins predecessor's canon -Disconcerning voyeurism/male gaze usage -Disproportionate ratio of main-game:side-game content -Annoying characterization of certain characters (Yuna, Rikku and Brother) -Completion/exploration of side content directly affecting outcome of main-game (100% completion in this game is one of the most poorly-executed examples of its kind, despite the core design encouraging repeat playthroughs)
I'll also add I never finished this game out of protest. Back when I was a kid I hated it then and even when the HD remaster came out I didn't even bother trying to play it.
"I never finished this game out of protest" ??????????? Ummm by the time you played this game, it had already sold more copies in Japan during 2003 than any other game of that year, and went on to receive amazing reviews. So sorry kid, you little "Campaign" is a bit late....

OMG Yuna...being independent, making her own decisions, soo strange.... Character development, what is that?????? Why not just make Yuna all like "If I can't be a summoner and *Die* for everyone, I guess I'll go take my place in the kitchen, sandwiches anyone?"
Character growth.....pfffbtt.
TheLittleMerwolf Hahaha! Your comment made my day!! 😂😂
TheLittleMerwolf thank you so much. I get so angry when these chauvinistic dudes can't except when women are front runners. They can only be side characters only there for fan service. I loved the Charlie's Angels-esque theme for this game
Fun fact: if you listen closely to the opening song of this game, *Real Emotion* you can actually hear the *Charlie's Angels* theme song woven in.
Wakka and Lulu should have named their child Wakkalu. Or Luwakka. Yeah, Wakkalu.
great job dude. u should make fire emblem next
So no play this trying to get the story to 100% first time through. Because that only made me love this game
I tried to play this game when it released...but, just couldn't get into this one. I just didn't enjoy this game. Thanks for making this recap. Now, I at least know how the story happened. Unfortunately, though, this further confirmed for me that I likely wouldn't have enjoyed this game.
Thanks for explaining. I gave this game a 2 hour try and couldn't continue. And now I know the story is mostly garbage. Phew! Bullet dodged.
I will never understand why they made this weird ass plot here. They had a plot, finding tidus... the tidus lookalike, and the way they used the new plot to make tidus seem like a footnote just barely remembered at the end of the game just doesn’t make sense to me
OMG the graphics on this game for PS2 was outstanding
I love this game.
I loved this game
I quit the game 5mins in and juding from your recap I made the right decision. Thank you.
lets face it X-2 was a massive cash grab taking advantage of X's success, it shouldn't have happened. Its like the dead or alive volleyball equivalent of final fantasy.
Spot on.
I could not really get in to the gameplay but I did enjoy the characters and story a lot. It was really interesting seing how Yuna is after she no longer has to be the prime and proper summoner to make people happy. Now she can do here own thing. I really like how they handled Yunas character in this game.
@@sofaris576 i dunno i just felt super uncomfortable playing it, it was super cringe
@@sofaris576 i just felt like it was made for thirsty fans who had a crush on yuna and rikku and nothing else because it didn't really wrap up the story either, couldn't take it seriously whatsoever.
will you be doing all the add-ons for the final fantasy games
FF: Pop Idol/dressing game edition.
This game is the biggest jebait of all time. “Want more Final Fantasy X? Too bad! Here’s a 20 hour long K-Pop video!”
J-pop?
Writing was very bad in this game. And to think it was so good in the first.
X _2 was enjoyable but i would of liked to see more screen time of feal tidas
Interesting idea but the whole game seems so pointless.
The music is so loud I can barely hear you sometimes.
You got your dates wrong. It was released 4th quarter 03. Maybe in Japan it was 02, but i doubt it was released there a full year before NA got it...
Good catch! I even had it as 2003 in my notes and in the captioning.
Is it just me or does yunas face look weird and/or different in this game compared to x-1 ?
The weirdest thing is Nojima wrote FF7 and FF8, it's shocking that this FFX-2 garbage came from the same brain.
Pros and cons of Final Fantasy X-2
+Improved localization from predecessor
+Fast, frenetic and fun gameplay
+Wealth of content, expanded further by International/Remaster editions
+Competent soundtrack
-Middling storyline that takes too long to start and even ruins predecessor's canon
-Disconcerning voyeurism/male gaze usage
-Disproportionate ratio of main-game:side-game content
-Annoying characterization of certain characters (Yuna, Rikku and Brother)
-Completion/exploration of side content directly affecting outcome of main-game (100% completion in this game is one of the most poorly-executed examples of its kind, despite the core design encouraging repeat playthroughs)
I don't care what anyone says. I love this game. It was actually my first FF game.
