What air pumps do you run? I have several of the tetra whisper pumps and theyre quite loud.
I use one pump from Jehmco.

I like the look of that you didn't show how the bottom chamber flows into the top does it go through the sponge or straight to the lift chamber
It flows through the filter media up to the ginormous lift tube!
@@MichaelsFishRoom I thought it might I suppose it so if the top gets blocked it will still flow so it's not going to polish the water as good when the top gets blocked unless you add floss to the bottom did you see any corner ones as big can't wait to see you hot rod it when the sponge is spent have you been watching fishman lately so inspiring what a guy 😊

I agree with you about it identifying as a sponge filter, but it's pretty cool. Not sure I'd pay that much for it, but it looks like it's doing its job.
I wouldn’t have spent that if it wasn’t for UA-cam to be honest.

Japan has so many unique stuff. Like HOB filters in Japan had the option of for motor mounted on the outside or submerged.
You should of grabbed the box vacuum filter. I don't think I've ever seen it in the US

Lol....believe it or not, I don’t even like cake!
It's a oversized corner filter from the 80's lol. It looks like a licorice contaner . The problem with them is they only cycles through the top.
Why is that a problem?
That’s how all filters work.
You have more area with a spong filter then a canister filter.
Just some video's This is true, but this filter will have better mechanical filtration.
Would be good to follow this filter over the coming weeks which will probably show the amount of dirt that gets stuck in there that can't be seen on a black sponge filter

@@MichaelsFishRoom believe it or not, ive not had many such problems with my equipment (knock on wood) at least not when it comes to filters. All of my display tanks have penn-plax canisters on em and they've been going strong ever since I set em up. I have definitely had heaters crap out on me as well as a couple cheaper lights from Amazon (nicrew, highly recommend 👌) but I still use the brand so yeah your right. But I've never ever had a piece of equipment on any of my tanks catch fire though (again, knock on wood) it is possible that when yours caught fire it was just a fluke thing. Has the replacement unit that you're running given any problems?

Let's dive deep here... 😆 I looked into bubbles rising in water a bit awhile back and it was exhausting!
Basically large bubbles travel up faster than small bubbles (note pearling plant bubbles are tiny and rise really slowly). But in a tube, affected by a zillion other tiny bubbles, the bubbles will increase in speed as if they were actually bigger bubbles. This is why bubbles right out of an airline seem to rise no faster up a tube than bubbles out of an air stone.
As they go up, the water begins to travel at the same speed as the bubble because some water sort of "sticks" to the bubble...like the bubble is not just pushing water but is pulling it too. This effect is increased in a tube because the air and water moving up the tube acts as a siphon and try to draw more water up into the vacuum that is created by the rising bubbles in the tube.
Basically, the amount of water going up the tube depends on tube size and bubble size and resistance in the form of how dirty a sponge or filter media might be. But because the air doesn't just endlessly increase speed as it goes to the top, there is a point where the length of the tube makes no difference, and the water and air hit a maximum velocity and flow rate and a longer pipe length doesn't affect it anymore.
In a nutshell, a clean filter would need little or no tube to cause the water siphoning affect that allows it to work....but as it becomes dirty and more force is needed to draw water through the filter, it is THEN that some length of tube is beneficial.

I do like the point you made about fish food going bad . I have folks always looking for a "good deal" here . Many of the products I carry come in different size containers. Of course you best buy per ounce is always the larger container but.... If its going to take you a long time to feed it out and it goes bad is it the best deal? NO WAY. Yes you can break it down in portions and freeze it as stated (Great Tip BTW)but many folks don't do that There isn't a huge difference in cost per ounce anyhow IMO unless the container size difference is extreme . Plus let me add that I just like commenting on your vids -
