Well, they did remove some combos, but there's many more animations for basic attacks now, and the addition of heavy attack executions made me love melee combat in DD2 WAY more than I liked in DD1
@@HCSbr it’s odd because yeah my only REAL enjoyment with 2 WAS melee. Mostly once I had better gear and could rag doll enemies as was done to me when I entered batahl WAY too early😅,but overall options feel lesser in DD2 in every regard. Nihil has put out better vids on his thoughts about DD2 that put into better wording my thoughts on it.

I completed both games. I find myself gravitating more towards Dogma 1 than Dogma 2, even though the combat is superior in 2, the first game had something the sequel is lacking. I don't know if it's monster variety, the general atmosphere, the characters... it just feels more complete to me. Even though I know that they both aren't. Maybe things will change after the DLC... I sincerely hope so.
It's the atmosphere and mystique, imho. The first one had a great soundtrack, along with a bunch of gigantic ancient ruins with little to no back story, so you're left with interpreting it yourself. The setpieces were crazy too and the overall gameplay felt faster, imho
Atmosphere, Intrigue, Dungeons(not 80 caves), barring Warrior 6 Skill slots, Sorcerer not being gutted, World Discovery, memorable characters through their questlines, loot tables and respawning chests, endgame content through Everfall, inventory management, a lot of lore to unpack that people still are finding things through Pawn and NPC chatter, better encounter design with quicker moving boss monsters, Dark Arisen's Bitterblack Mega-dungeon, etc. Many things that should of been built upon in Dark Arisen and maybe DDO should of been in DD2 at launch. I enjoy both games but if I had to pick one it's going to be DD1/DD:DA. In DD2 most of my playtime is exploring or ignoring the main quests because nothing is really raising any stakes in a manner that makes sense to make you care. If your Arisen doesn't care about becoming a King/Queen the story is rather nonsensical and falls flat on it's face. Grigori is the better dragon. And the OG music is required for the full Dogma experience.

I actually like this change, makes it more intuitive and balanced when you play archer. What I don't like is that my favorite arrows were removed in DD2, petrification arrow and sleep arrow, which is really weird to me, because both debilitations are still in the game, but the specialty arrows got completely forgotten

Yuuup. Truth is, lack of success and income drove her away. She tried to make a living out of video games, couldn't do it, and all of a sudden it became "waaaah dd2 fanbase is so negative, I'm out".
I think they just lost too much time rebuilding the original mechanics on the RE Engine that they couldn't add more stuff in the time left. They had 5 years since DMC5 (Itsuno's previous project) and it wasn't enough considering how suddenly the quests dropped off once you reach Battahl and how they just threw magic archer and warfarer in the sparse volcano island.
The two points I think that really lend to DD1's combat are six weapon skills (3 per weapon), the double jump, and the dodge roll. Those mobility and skill options alone are what pull me back to the first. Not to mention Magick Archer in the first game is just so much fun..
To clarify something I said in passing.... I really missed you. The vid quality, the background music, the playstyle, the notes. I played more and longer listening to your vids then without. And you're the guy that made me WANT platinum trophy for DD1 on my PS5. I truly appreciate you, and hope you try my tips. Game is only really fun in Batthali and red planet.
I bought DD1 at launch and I have played it more than 2500 hours (Xbox 360, PC, Switch). One of my favorit game of all time. I also love DD2. Played it more than 700 hours and I don't get tired of this game. Don't feel the need to come back to DD1 yet. It's a shame DD2 haters are so toxic. No more Infinite Cringe because of that 😢
We don't really know what drove her away even if she made a statement about it. DD2 had it's backlash as a game. And that backlash was/is well deserved, compared to dd1. And don't get me started on the terrible fps performance.
The encounters in dd1 were definitely more intense, enemies reacted faster, were more aggressive, and never left breathing room. I wouldn't be surprised if the slow easy combat was the reason mystic knight was removed from dd2. Imagine waiting for the "boss monster" to attack so you could repost, would be slow as hell.
I personally prefer D2 right now. Maybe it's because it's new, but it's not like either will ever be challenging. They weren't made go be. I do find myself annoyed with some of the bigger enemies, but I also enjoy fighting Dulahans and the dragons more than most in D1
For me, the biggest contributing factor that makes any game or movie compelling and memorable is the music. Most of DD2's music feels somewhat generic compared to that of DD1. I can easily conjure up mental images of my experiences in DD1 just by remembering the unique melodies and leitmotifs from the game, whereas that mental connection is much weaker in DD2 because the songs haven't stuck in my mind to that same degree.
We just haven't played the game over and over for 10 years I can tell you the Gryphon theme lives rent free in my head after two playthroughs, as well as the Dullahan one
Im currently going through a solo mystic knight run on bitterblack starting at level 6 (started as strider) and this has been the most fun ive had in a videogame in a long time. I use so much of the info you talk about in your videos and the way you fight has taught me to completely rethink the game and how i play, which has allowed me to start doing challenge runs like i am now. I hope you still enjoy making dragon's dogma videos because i really enjoy watching them. dragon's dogma: dark arisen is absolute lightning in a bottle. It is so much more of a masterpiece than really anyone but you give it credit for. Thank you
@@Admiral_Dunt plenty of people praise DD1, Nihil was the mechanics guy who found crazy unique ways to play DD1. You should acknowledge that many other people praised DD1 for being a great game.
I really think holding the daggers backwards like in Dogma 1 was better. It's more stylish imo. It does look more practical here but from a fantasy rpg perspective it looks more artistic to me to hold them backwards. I'd probably go for mystic spear or archer type vocation solely based on this. I'm stickler for the aesthetic of holding the daggers backwards, it really annoys me😂.
Love both games for sure.. unpopular opinion but i actually like DD2 more.. DD1 as a better game still is a bit of a slog for me whereas i can go through 4 playthroughs of DD2 and enjoy it more.. i might just be more of a casual DD fan than anything lol
Its not an unpopular opinion, just a very vocal anti crowd. I bought and played the first game when it came out and loved it, but it got shit on by a lot of people at the time. I love them both a lot.
Watching this, I'm hit again by how weird the decision to only allow you to use 1 weapon type per vocation. Having some kind of range option is vital for an adventurer, in most settings that aren't a joke. What if you find yourself facing an enemy that you can't engage with in melee? Twiddle your thumbs and hope they play nice?? Probably why we got that rope on thief, but still stupid. Focusing only on 1 weapon type would work for an organised group of combatant, not the glorified adventurer we play as. Feel like DD2 got the Skyrim effect. It looks vast and impressive, but it's as deep as a puddle.
I agree. Especially playing solo you had to be more aware of the enemies movement, predict, kiting them, wait until they’re open and attack… In DD2 it’s just use the meta for whichever class you’re playing and spam. I do think that the toxicity the arguments have caused in the community to be a sad thing though.
Amazing video. I've come to realize my 3 main issues with DD2, when compared to DD1 - movement, enemy variety and healthpool, as follows: 1. It really baffles me that no one criticizes the movement in DD2... I believe that is one of the worst mistakes made in the sequel. It just feels sluggish, specially when compared to DD1. Sure, DD1 feels kinda "robotic" in a way, but it felt responsive and just needed some improvement to make the sudden changes in direction a little bit more natural. 2. The enemy variety is also pretty lacking, specially in the early game, though it is an issue through the whole experience. 3. When you compare both games like this, it becomes obvious that weaker mobs (goblins, as such) should have more health in DD2, and bosses should have a lower health pool, and both bigger and smaller mobs should do more damage overall, as to soften the power gap between them. Right now, killing weaker mobs feels more like a chore than a challenge, and killing bigger mobs feels just too much time consuming. Neither feels fulfilling or satisfying. I also prefer DD1's map, but it's probably more out of nostalgia than anything else. DD2's "dungeons" felt pretty cool to complete, and were overall challenging in the early game. It's just that the late game feels so empty, and not worth playing at all... sad thing. I love the franchise, but DD2's not it.
I'm so sad they couldn't even get a game as good as the first one. I'm really craving for an overhaul with future content or dlc (we deserve something at least as good as BBI)
Character has 2 weapons in DD1, the movement is simply more anime & unrealistic but fun. DD2 is trying to be more realistic on a game where such a thing does not fit the setting.
The "I hit buttons, but I do not require any tactics" do go true for many part in DD2. Monster was not agressive enough, many skill from some class is too good that you just need to spam (that dragon illusion and the trickster vocation is just dumb, the formless feint and blade of the pyre spam is meh). I hope DLC can bring hard mode that not just increase enemies damage, but also change their AI so they can pose more threat.
I personally prefer DD2 in that I feel much more immersed and I love the way quests feel very natural and I just really like the map and everything. But I understand when people say it feels lacking. They really need more monster variety and I hope, if there is a DLC, they add like 5/10 new monster types that roam the open world. I also kinda wish there were more actual NPC's roaming around so you could end up with quests when you arent in a village, it seems like I've only ever gotten interesting convesations in a village. The rest of the map is just a means to complete a quest and get to a village. I think thats the only thing I can say is really a negative about this game. Everything else I think it really fun.
The sad thing is that their answer to this will be reshuffle enemies and giving them more HP not improving the AI or having answers to cheese it will be something like making skills like pyre blades and etx be less effective. making the game harder does not mean making all the mobs into tanks but lot of these guys think that they should be more aggressive call support have resistances and panic when blinded, attack faster and different and have their own broken attacks that make pawns necessary. I personally can't go back to DA I had y fun with it when DD1 released and again when DA released atm it's just too dated I'm glad that you can still enjoy it though! In end we'll see what happens Itsuno is not at helm anymore and after seeing all the stuffs he's said and done around DD it might be better w/o him he was not responsible for DA after all. DD2 is one of my fave games I hope that they will make it into a good and lasting product even though things are not that great atm after you get the loop.
Replayed DDDA(main game, Everfall, Bitterblack). I don't see myself returning to DD2 unless they overhaul the entire game. It lacks the build variety(level system and gearing is better in DDDA), the smooth and well paced combat, has better thought out gameplay systems and has a engaging atmospheric world I like getting lost in. And the music is inferior to DD1. It's not like they didn't have access to DD1's composer....they just had him compose for Monster Hunter instead. And man DD2 doesn't really have any dungeons. Just 80 caves. DD2 has nothing like Bluemoon Tower or Water God's Altar. Crazy. I tried returning to DD2 and the controls and UI setup to me were much better in DD1. So much so I kept trying to play DD2 like I was playing DD1. It's very frustrating when pulling out your bow is mapped to the opposite button and you went from 6 skills to 4. Not to mention how gutted Sorcerer became. Taking away all my dark magic is a big no no. Would have preferred they just put out a massive expansion pack 12 years later to Dark Arisen with new vocations, gear, dungeons, bosses, enemies instead of what we got. I like that we got a DD2 and that it sold well but man it just feels like the people that made the game did not understand what made Dragon's Dogma great to begin with. Hell if they just remastered DDDA, upped the graphics and added some new stuff I would have been fine with that. Ugh. Very much a 1 step forward 4 steps backward moment.
i dont want to compare dd1 to dd2, since i havent played dd1 for years, and i dont think dd2 was as good as it could have been. but you purposefully paired a high damage skill that hurts yourself with a skill that makes you invincible at the cost of your stamina. i played thief in dd2 without those skills and combat can be engaging this way. personally i think dd2 didnt improve enough in terms of enemy design, class design and combat in general, but playing thief in dd2 doesnt have to be as boring as it is in your showcase. in the end its totally fair to enjoy dd1 more than dd2, as it is to enjoy dd2 more than dd1. both games are available and ready to be enjoyed.
I have more hours on DD2 than the original and I’m about to start my fifth playthrough. It did some things right, like combat, graphics, and landscape. However, it lacks the charm the first game had. That being said, I don’t see myself going back to the first game. Maybe sometime down the road, but its age really shows after playing the sequel.

i dont think the enemy variety was bad in dd2, it had a bigger map with more unique locals and enemies that fit those locals were usually new. what made dd2 feel not as good as dd1 was the oversimplification of most of the mechanics like stats gear and skills. even though the combat was "better" there was less you could do
It wasn't ppl just compare it to other games with more enemy variety without realizing dd2 is more ambitious/innovative then those games for example you can't climb enemies in other games or fly them or use them as bridges we also have bigger enemies in dd2 then dd1 this puts the climbing combat to use more it's why shadow of the collosus had big enemies.
It's so sad, having such a big map and knowing that you'll either find more goblins, harpys, a cyclops or some bandits at every turn... And deleting the old mixed vocations + cutting the skills you can use at once in half (and the spell list too while at it) makes DD2 feel like the prequel to DDDA.
Damn... almost like you ran into goblins, saurians, harpies and wolves all the same in one... with even less variations in the base game... what a travesty! I imagine if MTFramework engine could be used for a modern game they'd have ported over and had twofold the enemy variety - unfortunately using a new engine and just 'bring all the old things in and update them' is not a possibility, as much as it may dismay the layman.
@@PrimalDirective The enemy variety was enough in DD1. It's not enough when the map is much larger like in DD2. I don't have the stomach to do another playthrough of DD2 knowing I'll have to kill 1000 goblins along the way.
I enjoyed my time with 2, the combat is fun, theres no denying that. Sending goblins flying with a giant sword never gets old. But ill keep playing DDDA, dunno if Ill replay 2 unless they add more content and its good content Also, how I wish there was an option to cap your leveling
All I’m saying is that DD2 should have built upon DDDA, and not seemingly off DD1. Even then, ignoring DA, it should improve upon things and not take away from what was provided, e.g., reducing the 6 weapon skills for classes, etc. The quality of life changes and all the improvements made by DA compared to the vanilla game should have been the stepping stone for DD2. The toning down of AI aggressiveness, the lack of monster variety, the simplicity of the game, so on, so forth. DD2 being comparable to DA, and even worse just vanilla DD, instead of just being a very clear improvement/upgrade over it is what makes it pretty sad. I feel like it’s mandatory that a sequel is outright better than its predecessor and shouldn’t be a topic up for debate (especially after a long time gap between the games release dates).
It's not even built upon Dragon's Dogma as a whole. It feels more like Monster Hunter than anything else and I personally despise Monster Hunter. Dogma 2 feels so slow and clunky compared to Dogma 1.
It seems to me that damage is on a much wider range in DD1 than in DD2 and also your base stats contribute as much as the weapons in DD2 than the base stats in DD1. Making it tougher to scale yourself down if you want the fights to last longer. Another observation is that the highest damage thing to do in most situations in DD2 as a thief was to do finishers or spamming blades of pyre. Perhaps the damage output of those 2 options were too great compared to other options that you often gravitated towards them. In DD1, there were slightly more options for strider you could do skull splitter spam which dealt with nearly everything, hundred kisses for climbing, or fivefold blast arrows. I'm only listing what I considered the highest damage option for strider since that's how you seemed to play DD2. You would implicate > finisher, smoke shroud > finisher, or blades of pyre spam. I was surprised you didn't show scarlet kisses while climbing in DD2 to compare with DD1. This is what seems to be the crux of your issue with DD2 thief the best options are too good. So when you choose your 4 skills you go implicate/smoke shroud/formless feint/blades of pyre and nothing else is worth considering. In DD1, I guess the equivalent for always the best skills would be skull splitter/leaping stone or hundred kisses/instant reset on daggers and fivefold flurry/fracture dart/downpour volley on shortbow. So either the scaling needs adjustment for you to enjoy it or there is some core aspect like the RE Engine movement (the momentum your character has is present in nearly every RE Engine game except maybe MH: Rise) that you just dislike enough that you don't want to experiment.
Pyre felt like it was never playtested Notice how many strong moves you came up with for the DD1 equivalent move set? 10fold Blast arrow spam, crazy great cannon setups, Exiquy reposte, HOLY FOCUS BOLT The difference is _Every class_ had a plethora of good options in multiple places, and they're balanced against each other even if there is OP moves; not so much the case in 2 IMO. I actually love the heavier combat and more realistic momentum. There's important stuff missing from 2 but I'm glad people can enjoy it anyways, it has (hopefully not had) amazing potential and places it raised the bar.
Watching this video made me wonder why in dd2 archer needs to equip skills to shoot explosive arrow, poison arrow when you actually have to make those arrows. What's the point of the skill. You could just shoot the arrow if you have to physically craft it.
I missed you, man. DD2 is easier for longer. Solo the Batthali (spelled wrong) area with the Lv. 46 thief. Should give you more of a challenge. Also, buy up and save All-Heals for the endgame (red planet). Try and solo the red planet, with All-Heals as "inn rests" since you can't sleep. Go through the whole map, every bridge has those wraith knights or whatever. Also, thief is broken, I tried solo with fighter at the harder areas and needed the pawn healer. But I agree, DD2 isn't as memorable, maybe because it doesn't have the same impact to the genre as DD1 did. In that respect, it's almost unfair to compare. Try my tips. It's so frustrating it's actually fun and reminds me of Dark Arisen.
DD2's fall damage and running animations are disappointing. Given the game's emphasis on exploration and traversal, it's essential that these mechanics feel smooth and satisfying. The removal of the Strider class, double jump, and roll dodge mechanics was a significant misstep. These features added depth and enjoyment to the gameplay, and their absence can be frustrating and immersion-breaking.
I’m intelligent enough to play warferer with a bow and two daggers. Big brain stuff. Strider in DD1 was baby mode, easiest class to use combined with insane dps.

Hey wait a second , it's the forst time i saw the thief climbing on the enemy and he use the knife to keep on it , that's already awesome per se but am i wrong or it even deal little dmg ? 5:57 but i saw there are different npc atacking it . For all the comments dd2 is a finished dd1 for me is just better in animations classes , combat, exploration ecc ecc . The problem is that dd1 have dark arisen , and that DLC is still epic , the enemies can tank you or oneshot you , and you cannot destroy every enemy with ez.. ( if you don't spam magic or strenght talisman) . Dd2 is a better dd1 but we still need the "dark arisen dlc" for the game . That's my opinion i will keep going around with my magic shield and enjoying it . ( 2 sword and shield 1 buff frost from mage i can buff my shield and repost with it . That's pretty good )
I tend to still enjoy DD2 more than most, but I know what you mean here. DD1 had much more of a “fun factor.” Think a large part of it had to do with the “Arcade-y” feel of its movement. The slow, weighty realism of the sequel can be really cool, but perhaps isn’t as much fun. But then there’s just the sheer amount of things that were in the first game that have been stripped from the second: -While the second game appears to have a lot of enemy variety, the fact is, many are re-skins, and even then they don’t really shake it up a whole lot. You can go a loooong while where all you see are goblins of one kind or another… -Item combining has been completely stripped. You can make the same handful of curatives five different ways, or you can make different arrows… that’s about it. -I reeeeeeally hate how they merged so many aspects of your equipment. The first game had 8 different equipment slots JUST for armor and accessories. Two more for weapons. Now chest and hand armor are combined to one piece. Leg armor is reduced to one piece. There’s no customization to make my character look the way I want!! -the world of the first game was just big enough that trekking across it was daunting but bearable to get from quest to quest - even when you had to back track, it was manageable and still enjoyable due to the added challenge of low supplies or having to travel night… cut to DD2, and the world is so large that going everywhere by foot is just too much to ask - even worse when you consider the insane encounter rate. Can’t go a minute without running into the next mom… So when I get to Bakbatthal and get told I need to go back to Melve for something, it’s a freekin punch to the gut. Yeah there are ox carts now, but what happens when you get raided and it’s destroyed right away? And as for Ferry stones, they’re initially hard to come by, and even then, tend to take away any of the joy of traveling - I WANT to be able to explore and travel back and forth, but this is just too much. Still hoping for mounts of some sort one day, but not counting on it. These are just a few key points. There are certainly more that could be brought up. Like I said, I still like both, but I almost would’ve preferred they do a complete ground up remake of the first game (even with its “small” world size) rather than spend all the time and resources on everything new they added.
Using the most broken skill combo in DD2 but not using blast arrows and spamming helm splitter in DD1 lmao. Liking one over the other is completely fine but this video showed alot of bias. I would understand complaints about enemy aggression though, enemies in DD2 attack too slowly.
DDII as a Remake brings a lack of difficulty and the futile pursuit of authenticity, making even the most agile classes feel somewhat sluggish. I enjoyed both, but DD:DA remains the game I'm more likely to replay again and again for now.
Not sure yet. The combat looks very colorful. I don't like a lot of aura and colors all over the place. I'm keeping an eye on it and I'll likely get it, as I've enjoyed the prior 3.

Blame the game, not the player. Nihil0.0 is notably having more fun in DD1 it just feels like there is more your character can do & at a faster speed. There is truth to saying that games no longer know how to be as explosive, as fun as they used to be. It's not some boomer nostalgia moment, its fact. Video games are still fun, but new videogames are becoming less fun.
DD2 combat feels cheap in some ways. Most of us are all comparing 2 to the greatness that was the prequel. I just started playing 2. I'm a lvl 23 Ranger. For me, combat feels cheap in 2 bc lunge/ jump attacks reach you from places they really shouldn't. Aim assist for enemies if you will. Sucks for vocations without evasive or counters. Running from enemies seems impossible. Why are they so fast?! First game, if you were overwhelmed, run away! In 2, running is futile alongside lunge attacks. Pawns watch you get absolutely wrecked, or they walk right into danger, never on alert. You gotta get pummeled first in order for them to really get active even still sometimes they just watch you struggle. That gets you fed to the brine where I'm from. I love the stances and characters forms when performing skills, but some actions, even normal actions, are too slow for the onslaught of enemies or enemies attacks. Having to cancel versus releasing the command button, for example. There control scheme, i believe, should have remained entirely the same. When you go to shoot an arrow or whatever. You shoot an arrow, not draw. That's what the Draw button is for. I just switched to fighter, and still, i feel controls should have remained the same. I'm currently adjusting. As for now, I am enjoying the game, tho for what it's worth. It's pretty tough even in normal mode. Exploration is great. I've been ignoring Main quest at the current moment. There is a slight disconnect if we are making the comparison to one and i completely understand. I've waited for this sequel just as long as everyone else, and i still have so many more hours of GP.
No! How can he flip the daggers around without an animation? When you stab on the ground he uses them backwards, but he flips them without actually flipping them (ie no animation)
Worse monster variety than 1's already slim monster variety. Worse terrain variety in 2, 1 had open plains and rolling hills, in addition to narrow mountain passes. Worse and less varied story and npc quests than 1's rushed and half-baked story and npc quests. 2's Vernworth is a less interesting city with less interesting traversal and exploration than 1's Gran Soren. People complained about Dragon's Dogma 1's warrior being too simplistic, now in 2 all classes are that restrictive. Dragon's Dogma 1 had a game engine that felt smooth to control, whereas 2 used a different game engine, where your controls feel driftier and clumsier and running is the same button as the interact button. 2's engine looked better but handled worse. The story in 2 is so bizarre. You never meet and interact with human villains Disa or Phaesus (except as cardboard-cutout npcs identical in interaction to all other random townsfolk) during any of the quests until the very endgame. You remote-view what they are doing elsewhere in cutscenes, your character isn't even interacting with them then. In 1, you have many direct interactions with the human villains and they give you cause to defend yourself and other characters from their assaults.

Even with low level creatures right away you can see how aggressive they are in DD1 vs DD2. You actually had to dodge and reposition before attacking unlike DD2 where you just keep attacking and win. And it’s not just the skills either since you were using meta/OP skills on both DD2 Thief and DD1 Strider. I personally feel like DD2 was balanced around all the vocations not being able to dodge or block since there are a few that can’t even when factoring in skills. That’s why most attacks are avoidable by just dashing or jumping out of the way. Playing Archer for a bit confirmed this for me. While in DD1 the game was balanced around Dagger dodge and Shield blocking/parry since weapons were shared and most vocations had them. (Yet another example of how losing shared weapons hurt DD2.) As for the vocations that didn’t have dodge or block, they had other methods i.e sword and bow Assassin, had sword skills Broad Slash as a universal i-frame option and the Assassin-exclusive Clairvoyance as a new counter whilst Warrior got Exodus Slash for claymores. (Mage/Sorcerer in both games were always intentionally designed without a dodge, block, or some sort of defensive ability so I am not counting them.) So it’s clear why DD2 feels so easy/boring; it’s because Thief and Fighter retains all the power of DD1 daggers/sword & board but the game is not balanced around them. The entire game is balanced around the vocations that can’t dodge, block, or counter attack without skills along with the assumption that players aren’t using them because of only 4 skill slots instead of DD1’s typical 6.
That is a possibility of what happened here. I can, and you and some others can see the difference. In Dogma1 you have tactics you need to use but in Dogma2 you just go and kill and there's no thought needed, no prep, no tactics
Well i too did not play Dogma 2 but i seen people struggle as all hell in 1 and the same people did far better in 2. Donno if monsters are easier or what but it certainly seemed like they ware having much easier time killing cyclops for instance. Donno really and as far as i care if the dlc lacks the ability to smash the sphinx there will still be no reason for me to play this game (they even took out Lolis [there are mods for that supposedly but still fuck it.If i cannot make my small girl with BIG HAT rain meteors on my opponents than why even bother?]).
@@xxXXRAPXXxxoverall it’s easier. Like there is ZERO scaling. It’s only difficult if you enter the batahl region early. Due to the new “stagger” system,it’s VERY easy to get stun locked at early level/with meh equipment(reminder they lowered the amount of stuff you can equip. YAY). Overall though there is likely little to no scaling for new game plus. No hard mode. And even then,by level 40(out of 999,yes idk why they made the level cap so needlessly insane),and with decent gear..the game becomes near mindless. Most of the returning enemies are downgraded. Even most new enemies pose little challenge. The most difficult enemy I had was a dragon variant in the “post game”
Dogma 2 have challenging but in different part. Trying to keep hp gauge, try survive stagger lock. You can try sneak to desert area very early if want some challenge.

Ye don't know how but for me DD2 it's just "graphics" , but for me that's all, I don't know maybe i hyped too much this game but still feels incomplete.
There are a lot more mechanics to play around with DD2's Thief especially in the movement. Can't really simply compare the new game while playing in the old way. If the goal is to simply kill enemies, then yes, DD2 gives the player too much power. But I feel that DD2 is a game where the player shouldn't have the mentality to just beat enemies but experiment with the mechanics and create moments where the whole encounter looks cool.
while i agree that is where dd2's combat can shine, that's simply not enough to carry 1 playthrough for a lot of fans let alone multiple. dd1 offered so much more skills and skill synergy. we're watching the guy that made some of the best videos about how diverse simple abilities can be in dd1. comparison is the point of this video and i just don't see 2 leading the conversation
idk, I beat entire camps and bosses in DD1 with Maelstrom and I beat entire camps and bosses in DD2 with Maelstrom. Both are equally funny to me, but DD2 doesn't blind my character. If anything it felt like in DD1 it dealt more damage and was even more brainrotted against bosses. But alas, I kinda see your point. DD2 has the potential to be more cinematic but you need to know how, DD1 was more gamey, fast-paced, reactionary. It's hard to put it in words, but that's how I feel, more or less. In more ways than one I prefer the combat in 2. If I have an issue with the game it's something else entirely.
I love the thief move cancelling, but it's the only class that plays like that and it reads as both semi-intentional and unbalanced in multiple ways; unlike say instant reset.
@@Hambs23 DD1 is the slower game actually. There are many movement and air time possibilities especially when Mystic Spearhand is paired with other vocations through Warfarer.
I think you can see whats wrong with DD2 by taking a look at the map: it claims to be an open world but what you end up walking through is a series of corridors. The world looks great at first glance, but as soon as you take a look below the surface level you find it has much less depth in every regard: too many choices taken away in the name of streamlining.
That's also a big miss, but for me it's the enemies, the AI of enemies and the new mechanics of combat, and the lack of class veriety, and the reduction of options with skills, and the lack of danger and consequence. And. And so much more
@@Nihil0.0 What i meant is, that streamlining that you see applied to the map is present in almost all areas of the game: Less pieces of armor, less usable items, none of the "bad" skills that were in the DDDA. But now that you mention it, the lack of consequence is just as much if not a bigger issue. The tension and excitement from exploring a number of areas in DDDA that made me compare it to Dark Souls is almost completely gone here.

I'd be interested to see your thoughts on dragons dogma 1 normal mode without any dlc, does it hold up or does it also need dlc to be good like how dd2 desperately needs it. I'm talking purely gameplay because in terms of storylines and characters dd1 obviously wins. Hard mode was released with bitter black in 1 and i think its fair to judge both games without hard mode or dlc to truly see how it holds up at launch.

Shortly later they released Dark Arisen and I just stumbled on it at gamestop. Got it and loaded up my save, which was probably 100% Fighter. They changed a few things like augments and dodge animation. I don't recall if Hard mode was pre Dark Arisen or after. Lots of people are crying about how "we're" comparing a dogma2 (without dlc) to a dark arisen with dlc, but, dogma1 pre dlc was still way better. Better enemies, better AI, better mechanics. I remember that first year with just Gransys, and just tier 2 skills. It was better

Feeling abit the same. The story was fun. But the skills were like so broken in dogma 2 it wasnt even fun playin anymore. Like u can get invincibility at start of the game for full squad for 5 hits each. so yeah. it was fun at start but overall boring.
I definitely prefer DD1 to DD2. I enjoyed my very first playthrough od DD2, but none of my subsequent playthroughs. The final fight with Grigori (I know that the dragon in DD2 isn't Grigori but I will continue to call him that) was the biggest dissapointment ever, though. In DD1 it was so cinematic and, if you were playing through the game for the first time, challenging. In DD2, my pawn used maelstrom and killed him before I even got to hit him a single time: I genuinely thought my game had bugged and that was what caused him to die so fast.

Well, they did remove some combos, but there's many more animations for basic attacks now, and the addition of heavy attack executions made me love melee combat in DD2 WAY more than I liked in DD1

I completed both games. I find myself gravitating more towards Dogma 1 than Dogma 2, even though the combat is superior in 2, the first game had something the sequel is lacking. I don't know if it's monster variety, the general atmosphere, the characters... it just feels more complete to me. Even though I know that they both aren't. Maybe things will change after the DLC... I sincerely hope so.
It's the atmosphere and mystique, imho. The first one had a great soundtrack, along with a bunch of gigantic ancient ruins with little to no back story, so you're left with interpreting it yourself. The setpieces were crazy too and the overall gameplay felt faster, imho
No way the combat is better in 2. It’s also massively dumbed down in choices. Just like everything about 2.
Atmosphere, Intrigue, Dungeons(not 80 caves), barring Warrior 6 Skill slots, Sorcerer not being gutted, World Discovery, memorable characters through their questlines, loot tables and respawning chests, endgame content through Everfall, inventory management, a lot of lore to unpack that people still are finding things through Pawn and NPC chatter, better encounter design with quicker moving boss monsters, Dark Arisen's Bitterblack Mega-dungeon, etc.
Many things that should of been built upon in Dark Arisen and maybe DDO should of been in DD2 at launch.
I enjoy both games but if I had to pick one it's going to be DD1/DD:DA. In DD2 most of my playtime is exploring or ignoring the main quests because nothing is really raising any stakes in a manner that makes sense to make you care. If your Arisen doesn't care about becoming a King/Queen the story is rather nonsensical and falls flat on it's face.
Grigori is the better dragon.
And the OG music is required for the full Dogma experience.

DD2: adds item shortcuts, but makes special arrows a skill instead of an equipable consumable for some reason.
I can accept most of dd2 changes even when they are objectively worst than the first game, but this one is just a crime
I actually like this change, makes it more intuitive and balanced when you play archer. What I don't like is that my favorite arrows were removed in DD2, petrification arrow and sleep arrow, which is really weird to me, because both debilitations are still in the game, but the specialty arrows got completely forgotten

I think they just lost too much time rebuilding the original mechanics on the RE Engine that they couldn't add more stuff in the time left. They had 5 years since DMC5 (Itsuno's previous project) and it wasn't enough considering how suddenly the quests dropped off once you reach Battahl and how they just threw magic archer and warfarer in the sparse volcano island.
The two points I think that really lend to DD1's combat are six weapon skills (3 per weapon), the double jump, and the dodge roll. Those mobility and skill options alone are what pull me back to the first. Not to mention Magick Archer in the first game is just so much fun..

I bought DD1 at launch and I have played it more than 2500 hours (Xbox 360, PC, Switch). One of my favorit game of all time.
I also love DD2. Played it more than 700 hours and I don't get tired of this game. Don't feel the need to come back to DD1 yet.

The encounters in dd1 were definitely more intense, enemies reacted faster, were more aggressive, and never left breathing room. I wouldn't be surprised if the slow easy combat was the reason mystic knight was removed from dd2. Imagine waiting for the "boss monster" to attack so you could repost, would be slow as hell.
I personally prefer D2 right now. Maybe it's because it's new, but it's not like either will ever be challenging. They weren't made go be. I do find myself annoyed with some of the bigger enemies, but I also enjoy fighting Dulahans and the dragons more than most in D1

For me, the biggest contributing factor that makes any game or movie compelling and memorable is the music. Most of DD2's music feels somewhat generic compared to that of DD1. I can easily conjure up mental images of my experiences in DD1 just by remembering the unique melodies and leitmotifs from the game, whereas that mental connection is much weaker in DD2 because the songs haven't stuck in my mind to that same degree.
We just haven't played the game over and over for 10 years
I can tell you the Gryphon theme lives rent free in my head after two playthroughs, as well as the Dullahan one
Im currently going through a solo mystic knight run on bitterblack starting at level 6 (started as strider) and this has been the most fun ive had in a videogame in a long time. I use so much of the info you talk about in your videos and the way you fight has taught me to completely rethink the game and how i play, which has allowed me to start doing challenge runs like i am now. I hope you still enjoy making dragon's dogma videos because i really enjoy watching them. dragon's dogma: dark arisen is absolute lightning in a bottle. It is so much more of a masterpiece than really anyone but you give it credit for. Thank you

I really think holding the daggers backwards like in Dogma 1 was better. It's more stylish imo. It does look more practical here but from a fantasy rpg perspective it looks more artistic to me to hold them backwards. I'd probably go for mystic spear or archer type vocation solely based on this. I'm stickler for the aesthetic of holding the daggers backwards, it really annoys me😂.
Love both games for sure.. unpopular opinion but i actually like DD2 more.. DD1 as a better game still is a bit of a slog for me whereas i can go through 4 playthroughs of DD2 and enjoy it more.. i might just be more of a casual DD fan than anything lol

I think Capcom simplifying the classes really hurt the combat. For instance, making the thief melee only - it completely dumbs down the experience
I feel like having a win bow dumbs down strider significantly. You can just shoot the monster anytime you're challenged
Watching this, I'm hit again by how weird the decision to only allow you to use 1 weapon type per vocation. Having some kind of range option is vital for an adventurer, in most settings that aren't a joke. What if you find yourself facing an enemy that you can't engage with in melee? Twiddle your thumbs and hope they play nice?? Probably why we got that rope on thief, but still stupid.
Focusing only on 1 weapon type would work for an organised group of combatant, not the glorified adventurer we play as.
Feel like DD2 got the Skyrim effect. It looks vast and impressive, but it's as deep as a puddle.
If they ever make a hard mode that would be great. Also, DLC could help or kill the Balance. Amazing music choice, thank you !!!! Great video !!!!
I agree. Especially playing solo you had to be more aware of the enemies movement, predict, kiting them, wait until they’re open and attack… In DD2 it’s just use the meta for whichever class you’re playing and spam.
I do think that the toxicity the arguments have caused in the community to be a sad thing though.

Amazing video. I've come to realize my 3 main issues with DD2, when compared to DD1 - movement, enemy variety and healthpool, as follows:
1. It really baffles me that no one criticizes the movement in DD2... I believe that is one of the worst mistakes made in the sequel. It just feels sluggish, specially when compared to DD1. Sure, DD1 feels kinda "robotic" in a way, but it felt responsive and just needed some improvement to make the sudden changes in direction a little bit more natural.
2. The enemy variety is also pretty lacking, specially in the early game, though it is an issue through the whole experience.
3. When you compare both games like this, it becomes obvious that weaker mobs (goblins, as such) should have more health in DD2, and bosses should have a lower health pool, and both bigger and smaller mobs should do more damage overall, as to soften the power gap between them. Right now, killing weaker mobs feels more like a chore than a challenge, and killing bigger mobs feels just too much time consuming. Neither feels fulfilling or satisfying.
I also prefer DD1's map, but it's probably more out of nostalgia than anything else. DD2's "dungeons" felt pretty cool to complete, and were overall challenging in the early game. It's just that the late game feels so empty, and not worth playing at all... sad thing. I love the franchise, but DD2's not it.
I'm so sad they couldn't even get a game as good as the first one. I'm really craving for an overhaul with future content or dlc (we deserve something at least as good as BBI)

Character has 2 weapons in DD1, the movement is simply more anime & unrealistic but fun. DD2 is trying to be more realistic on a game where such a thing does not fit the setting.
The "I hit buttons, but I do not require any tactics" do go true for many part in DD2. Monster was not agressive enough, many skill from some class is too good that you just need to spam (that dragon illusion and the trickster vocation is just dumb, the formless feint and blade of the pyre spam is meh). I hope DLC can bring hard mode that not just increase enemies damage, but also change their AI so they can pose more threat.

DD2 classes are missing half of the skills DD1 had, thats why the combat feels so off. Really hope the DLC will bring more spells to the table.

Listening to Be'lakor as music support from the Nihil video, there's a few feelings on it.
I personally prefer DD2 in that I feel much more immersed and I love the way quests feel very natural and I just really like the map and everything. But I understand when people say it feels lacking.
They really need more monster variety and I hope, if there is a DLC, they add like 5/10 new monster types that roam the open world. I also kinda wish there were more actual NPC's roaming around so you could end up with quests when you arent in a village, it seems like I've only ever gotten interesting convesations in a village. The rest of the map is just a means to complete a quest and get to a village.
I think thats the only thing I can say is really a negative about this game. Everything else I think it really fun.

The sad thing is that their answer to this will be reshuffle enemies and giving them more HP not improving the AI or having answers to cheese it will be something like making skills like pyre blades and etx be less effective.
making the game harder does not mean making all the mobs into tanks but lot of these guys think that they should be more aggressive call support have resistances and panic when blinded, attack faster and different and have their own broken attacks that make pawns necessary.
I personally can't go back to DA I had y fun with it when DD1 released and again when DA released atm it's just too dated

In end we'll see what happens Itsuno is not at helm anymore and after seeing all the stuffs he's said and done around DD it might be better w/o him he was not responsible for DA after all. DD2 is one of my fave games I hope that they will make it into a good and lasting product even though things are not that great atm after you get the loop.
Replayed DDDA(main game, Everfall, Bitterblack). I don't see myself returning to DD2 unless they overhaul the entire game. It lacks the build variety(level system and gearing is better in DDDA), the smooth and well paced combat, has better thought out gameplay systems and has a engaging atmospheric world I like getting lost in. And the music is inferior to DD1. It's not like they didn't have access to DD1's composer....they just had him compose for Monster Hunter instead. And man DD2 doesn't really have any dungeons. Just 80 caves. DD2 has nothing like Bluemoon Tower or Water God's Altar. Crazy.
I tried returning to DD2 and the controls and UI setup to me were much better in DD1. So much so I kept trying to play DD2 like I was playing DD1. It's very frustrating when pulling out your bow is mapped to the opposite button and you went from 6 skills to 4. Not to mention how gutted Sorcerer became. Taking away all my dark magic is a big no no.
Would have preferred they just put out a massive expansion pack 12 years later to Dark Arisen with new vocations, gear, dungeons, bosses, enemies instead of what we got.
I like that we got a DD2 and that it sold well but man it just feels like the people that made the game did not understand what made Dragon's Dogma great to begin with.
Hell if they just remastered DDDA, upped the graphics and added some new stuff I would have been fine with that. Ugh. Very much a 1 step forward 4 steps backward moment.
i dont want to compare dd1 to dd2, since i havent played dd1 for years, and i dont think dd2 was as good as it could have been. but you purposefully paired a high damage skill that hurts yourself with a skill that makes you invincible at the cost of your stamina. i played thief in dd2 without those skills and combat can be engaging this way. personally i think dd2 didnt improve enough in terms of enemy design, class design and combat in general, but playing thief in dd2 doesnt have to be as boring as it is in your showcase. in the end its totally fair to enjoy dd1 more than dd2, as it is to enjoy dd2 more than dd1. both games are available and ready to be enjoyed.
I have more hours on DD2 than the original and I’m about to start my fifth playthrough. It did some things right, like combat, graphics, and landscape. However, it lacks the charm the first game had. That being said, I don’t see myself going back to the first game. Maybe sometime down the road, but its age really shows after playing the sequel.

i dont think the enemy variety was bad in dd2, it had a bigger map with more unique locals and enemies that fit those locals were usually new. what made dd2 feel not as good as dd1 was the oversimplification of most of the mechanics like stats gear and skills. even though the combat was "better" there was less you could do
It wasn't ppl just compare it to other games with more enemy variety without realizing dd2 is more ambitious/innovative then those games for example you can't climb enemies in other games or fly them or use them as bridges we also have bigger enemies in dd2 then dd1 this puts the climbing combat to use more it's why shadow of the collosus had big enemies.

It's so sad, having such a big map and knowing that you'll either find more goblins, harpys, a cyclops or some bandits at every turn...
And deleting the old mixed vocations + cutting the skills you can use at once in half (and the spell list too while at it) makes DD2 feel like the prequel to DDDA.

I imagine if MTFramework engine could be used for a modern game they'd have ported over and had twofold the enemy variety - unfortunately using a new engine and just 'bring all the old things in and update them' is not a possibility, as much as it may dismay the layman.

I enjoyed my time with 2, the combat is fun, theres no denying that. Sending goblins flying with a giant sword never gets old. But ill keep playing DDDA, dunno if Ill replay 2 unless they add more content and its good content

All I’m saying is that DD2 should have built upon DDDA, and not seemingly off DD1. Even then, ignoring DA, it should improve upon things and not take away from what was provided, e.g., reducing the 6 weapon skills for classes, etc. The quality of life changes and all the improvements made by DA compared to the vanilla game should have been the stepping stone for DD2.
The toning down of AI aggressiveness, the lack of monster variety, the simplicity of the game, so on, so forth.
DD2 being comparable to DA, and even worse just vanilla DD, instead of just being a very clear improvement/upgrade over it is what makes it pretty sad.
I feel like it’s mandatory that a sequel is outright better than its predecessor and shouldn’t be a topic up for debate (especially after a long time gap between the games release dates).
It's not even built upon Dragon's Dogma as a whole. It feels more like Monster Hunter than anything else and I personally despise Monster Hunter. Dogma 2 feels so slow and clunky compared to Dogma 1.

It seems to me that damage is on a much wider range in DD1 than in DD2 and also your base stats contribute as much as the weapons in DD2 than the base stats in DD1. Making it tougher to scale yourself down if you want the fights to last longer.
Another observation is that the highest damage thing to do in most situations in DD2 as a thief was to do finishers or spamming blades of pyre. Perhaps the damage output of those 2 options were too great compared to other options that you often gravitated towards them.
In DD1, there were slightly more options for strider you could do skull splitter spam which dealt with nearly everything, hundred kisses for climbing, or fivefold blast arrows. I'm only listing what I considered the highest damage option for strider since that's how you seemed to play DD2. You would implicate > finisher, smoke shroud > finisher, or blades of pyre spam. I was surprised you didn't show scarlet kisses while climbing in DD2 to compare with DD1.
This is what seems to be the crux of your issue with DD2 thief the best options are too good. So when you choose your 4 skills you go implicate/smoke shroud/formless feint/blades of pyre and nothing else is worth considering. In DD1, I guess the equivalent for always the best skills would be skull splitter/leaping stone or hundred kisses/instant reset on daggers and fivefold flurry/fracture dart/downpour volley on shortbow. So either the scaling needs adjustment for you to enjoy it or there is some core aspect like the RE Engine movement (the momentum your character has is present in nearly every RE Engine game except maybe MH: Rise) that you just dislike enough that you don't want to experiment.

The difference is _Every class_ had a plethora of good options in multiple places, and they're balanced against each other even if there is OP moves; not so much the case in 2 IMO.
I actually love the heavier combat and more realistic momentum.
There's important stuff missing from 2 but I'm glad people can enjoy it anyways, it has (hopefully not had) amazing potential and places it raised the bar.
Watching this video made me wonder why in dd2 archer needs to equip skills to shoot explosive arrow, poison arrow when you actually have to make those arrows. What's the point of the skill. You could just shoot the arrow if you have to physically craft it.
The game is too easy and Pawns already knows everything, there's not such learning featuring for them anymore, it makes the game even easier.
I definitely get some very low-education pawns, at level 86. It's not as deep but the pawn learning is still very important

DD2 is easier for longer. Solo the Batthali (spelled wrong) area with the Lv. 46 thief. Should give you more of a challenge. Also, buy up and save All-Heals for the endgame (red planet). Try and solo the red planet, with All-Heals as "inn rests" since you can't sleep. Go through the whole map, every bridge has those wraith knights or whatever. Also, thief is broken, I tried solo with fighter at the harder areas and needed the pawn healer. But I agree, DD2 isn't as memorable, maybe because it doesn't have the same impact to the genre as DD1 did. In that respect, it's almost unfair to compare. Try my tips. It's so frustrating it's actually fun and reminds me of Dark Arisen.

For all the comments dd2 is a finished dd1 for me is just better in animations classes , combat, exploration ecc ecc . The problem is that dd1 have dark arisen , and that DLC is still epic , the enemies can tank you or oneshot you , and you cannot destroy every enemy with ez.. ( if you don't spam magic or strenght talisman) .
Dd2 is a better dd1 but we still need the "dark arisen dlc" for the game .
That's my opinion i will keep going around with my magic shield and enjoying it . ( 2 sword and shield 1 buff frost from mage i can buff my shield and repost with it . That's pretty good )
I tend to still enjoy DD2 more than most, but I know what you mean here. DD1 had much more of a “fun factor.” Think a large part of it had to do with the “Arcade-y” feel of its movement. The slow, weighty realism of the sequel can be really cool, but perhaps isn’t as much fun.
But then there’s just the sheer amount of things that were in the first game that have been stripped from the second:
-While the second game appears to have a lot of enemy variety, the fact is, many are re-skins, and even then they don’t really shake it up a whole lot. You can go a loooong while where all you see are goblins of one kind or another…
-Item combining has been completely stripped. You can make the same handful of curatives five different ways, or you can make different arrows… that’s about it.
-I reeeeeeally hate how they merged so many aspects of your equipment. The first game had 8 different equipment slots JUST for armor and accessories. Two more for weapons. Now chest and hand armor are combined to one piece. Leg armor is reduced to one piece. There’s no customization to make my character look the way I want!!
-the world of the first game was just big enough that trekking across it was daunting but bearable to get from quest to quest - even when you had to back track, it was manageable and still enjoyable due to the added challenge of low supplies or having to travel night… cut to DD2, and the world is so large that going everywhere by foot is just too much to ask - even worse when you consider the insane encounter rate. Can’t go a minute without running into the next mom… So when I get to Bakbatthal and get told I need to go back to Melve for something, it’s a freekin punch to the gut. Yeah there are ox carts now, but what happens when you get raided and it’s destroyed right away? And as for Ferry stones, they’re initially hard to come by, and even then, tend to take away any of the joy of traveling - I WANT to be able to explore and travel back and forth, but this is just too much. Still hoping for mounts of some sort one day, but not counting on it.
These are just a few key points. There are certainly more that could be brought up. Like I said, I still like both, but I almost would’ve preferred they do a complete ground up remake of the first game (even with its “small” world size) rather than spend all the time and resources on everything new they added.
The arcade feel of 1 is why I feel 1 it's the superior game, it felt like a spiritual successor to Capcom's DnD games.

Using the most broken skill combo in DD2 but not using blast arrows and spamming helm splitter in DD1 lmao. Liking one over the other is completely fine but this video showed alot of bias. I would understand complaints about enemy aggression though, enemies in DD2 attack too slowly.

DDII as a Remake brings a lack of difficulty and the futile pursuit of authenticity, making even the most agile classes feel somewhat sluggish. I enjoyed both, but DD:DA remains the game I'm more likely to replay again and again for now.

There is truth to saying that games no longer know how to be as explosive, as fun as they used to be. It's not some boomer nostalgia moment, its fact. Video games are still fun, but new videogames are becoming less fun.
DD2 combat feels cheap in some ways.
Most of us are all comparing 2 to the greatness that was the prequel. I just started playing 2. I'm a lvl 23 Ranger. For me, combat feels cheap in 2 bc lunge/ jump attacks reach you from places they really shouldn't. Aim assist for enemies if you will. Sucks for vocations without evasive or counters. Running from enemies seems impossible. Why are they so fast?! First game, if you were overwhelmed, run away! In 2, running is futile alongside lunge attacks. Pawns watch you get absolutely wrecked, or they walk right into danger, never on alert. You gotta get pummeled first in order for them to really get active even still sometimes they just watch you struggle. That gets you fed to the brine where I'm from. I love the stances and characters forms when performing skills, but some actions, even normal actions, are too slow for the onslaught of enemies or enemies attacks. Having to cancel versus releasing the command button, for example. There control scheme, i believe, should have remained entirely the same. When you go to shoot an arrow or whatever. You shoot an arrow, not draw. That's what the Draw button is for. I just switched to fighter, and still, i feel controls should have remained the same. I'm currently adjusting.
As for now, I am enjoying the game, tho for what it's worth. It's pretty tough even in normal mode. Exploration is great. I've been ignoring Main quest at the current moment. There is a slight disconnect if we are making the comparison to one and i completely understand. I've waited for this sequel just as long as everyone else, and i still have so many more hours of GP.

Worse monster variety than 1's already slim monster variety. Worse terrain variety in 2, 1 had open plains and rolling hills, in addition to narrow mountain passes. Worse and less varied story and npc quests than 1's rushed and half-baked story and npc quests. 2's Vernworth is a less interesting city with less interesting traversal and exploration than 1's Gran Soren. People complained about Dragon's Dogma 1's warrior being too simplistic, now in 2 all classes are that restrictive.
Dragon's Dogma 1 had a game engine that felt smooth to control, whereas 2 used a different game engine, where your controls feel driftier and clumsier and running is the same button as the interact button. 2's engine looked better but handled worse.
The story in 2 is so bizarre. You never meet and interact with human villains Disa or Phaesus (except as cardboard-cutout npcs identical in interaction to all other random townsfolk) during any of the quests until the very endgame. You remote-view what they are doing elsewhere in cutscenes, your character isn't even interacting with them then. In 1, you have many direct interactions with the human villains and they give you cause to defend yourself and other characters from their assaults.
dogma 1 is like infinitely better, it's the same with games like nioh 2 being way better than wolong and that other shitty game they made sadly

Even with low level creatures right away you can see how aggressive they are in DD1 vs DD2.
You actually had to dodge and reposition before attacking unlike DD2 where you just keep attacking and win. And it’s not just the skills either since you were using meta/OP skills on both DD2 Thief and DD1 Strider.
I personally feel like DD2 was balanced around all the vocations not being able to dodge or block since there are a few that can’t even when factoring in skills. That’s why most attacks are avoidable by just dashing or jumping out of the way. Playing Archer for a bit confirmed this for me. While in DD1 the game was balanced around Dagger dodge and Shield blocking/parry since weapons were shared and most vocations had them. (Yet another example of how losing shared weapons hurt DD2.)
As for the vocations that didn’t have dodge or block, they had other methods i.e sword and bow Assassin, had sword skills Broad Slash as a universal i-frame option and the Assassin-exclusive Clairvoyance as a new counter whilst Warrior got Exodus Slash for claymores. (Mage/Sorcerer in both games were always intentionally designed without a dodge, block, or some sort of defensive ability so I am not counting them.)
So it’s clear why DD2 feels so easy/boring; it’s because Thief and Fighter retains all the power of DD1 daggers/sword & board but the game is not balanced around them. The entire game is balanced around the vocations that can’t dodge, block, or counter attack without skills along with the assumption that players aren’t using them because of only 4 skill slots instead of DD1’s typical 6.
That is a possibility of what happened here. I can, and you and some others can see the difference. In Dogma1 you have tactics you need to use but in Dogma2 you just go and kill and there's no thought needed, no prep, no tactics

Well i too did not play Dogma 2 but i seen people struggle as all hell in 1 and the same people did far better in 2.
Donno if monsters are easier or what but it certainly seemed like they ware having much easier time killing cyclops for instance. Donno really and as far as i care if the dlc lacks the ability to smash the sphinx there will still be no reason for me to play this game (they even took out Lolis [there are mods for that supposedly but still fuck it.If i cannot make my small girl with BIG HAT rain meteors on my opponents than why even bother?]).

Due to the new “stagger” system,it’s VERY easy to get stun locked at early level/with meh equipment(reminder they lowered the amount of stuff you can equip. YAY). Overall though there is likely little to no scaling for new game plus. No hard mode. And even then,by level 40(out of 999,yes idk why they made the level cap so needlessly insane),and with decent gear..the game becomes near mindless. Most of the returning enemies are downgraded. Even most new enemies pose little challenge. The most difficult enemy I had was a dragon variant in the “post game”
Dogma 2 have challenging but in different part. Trying to keep hp gauge, try survive stagger lock. You can try sneak to desert area very early if want some challenge.

There are a lot more mechanics to play around with DD2's Thief especially in the movement. Can't really simply compare the new game while playing in the old way. If the goal is to simply kill enemies, then yes, DD2 gives the player too much power. But I feel that DD2 is a game where the player shouldn't have the mentality to just beat enemies but experiment with the mechanics and create moments where the whole encounter looks cool.
while i agree that is where dd2's combat can shine, that's simply not enough to carry 1 playthrough for a lot of fans let alone multiple. dd1 offered so much more skills and skill synergy. we're watching the guy that made some of the best videos about how diverse simple abilities can be in dd1. comparison is the point of this video and i just don't see 2 leading the conversation
idk, I beat entire camps and bosses in DD1 with Maelstrom and I beat entire camps and bosses in DD2 with Maelstrom. Both are equally funny to me, but DD2 doesn't blind my character. If anything it felt like in DD1 it dealt more damage and was even more brainrotted against bosses.
But alas, I kinda see your point. DD2 has the potential to be more cinematic but you need to know how, DD1 was more gamey, fast-paced, reactionary. It's hard to put it in words, but that's how I feel, more or less.
In more ways than one I prefer the combat in 2. If I have an issue with the game it's something else entirely.

@@Hambs23 DD1 is the slower game actually. There are many movement and air time possibilities especially when Mystic Spearhand is paired with other vocations through Warfarer.

I think you can see whats wrong with DD2 by taking a look at the map: it claims to be an open world but what you end up walking through is a series of corridors. The world looks great at first glance, but as soon as you take a look below the surface level you find it has much less depth in every regard: too many choices taken away in the name of streamlining.
That's also a big miss, but for me it's the enemies, the AI of enemies and the new mechanics of combat, and the lack of class veriety, and the reduction of options with skills, and the lack of danger and consequence. And. And so much more
@@Nihil0.0 What i meant is, that streamlining that you see applied to the map is present in almost all areas of the game: Less pieces of armor, less usable items, none of the "bad" skills that were in the DDDA.
But now that you mention it, the lack of consequence is just as much if not a bigger issue. The tension and excitement from exploring a number of areas in DDDA that made me compare it to Dark Souls is almost completely gone here.

@@Nihil0.0 that makes sense. i do agree that for early game dragons dogma(no dlc), the enemy variety is definitely more varied in that alternative path you took but for mid and late game (of purely the base game), dragons dogma 2 has it beat .
I'd be interested to see your thoughts on dragons dogma 1 normal mode without any dlc, does it hold up or does it also need dlc to be good like how dd2 desperately needs it. I'm talking purely gameplay because in terms of storylines and characters dd1 obviously wins.
Hard mode was released with bitter black in 1 and i think its fair to judge both games without hard mode or dlc to truly see how it holds up at launch.

Shortly later they released Dark Arisen and I just stumbled on it at gamestop. Got it and loaded up my save, which was probably 100% Fighter. They changed a few things like augments and dodge animation. I don't recall if Hard mode was pre Dark Arisen or after. Lots of people are crying about how "we're" comparing a dogma2 (without dlc) to a dark arisen with dlc, but, dogma1 pre dlc was still way better. Better enemies, better AI, better mechanics. I remember that first year with just Gransys, and just tier 2 skills. It was better
Something about the combat in 2 just makes it feel really slow.
sick of games becoming less mechanically complex over time. the same thing happened with elder scrolls. I guess that's what sells to the masses but it's still disappointing.

Feeling abit the same. The story was fun. But the skills were like so broken in dogma 2 it wasnt even fun playin anymore. Like u can get invincibility at start of the game for full squad for 5 hits each. so yeah. it was fun at start but overall boring.
I definitely prefer DD1 to DD2. I enjoyed my very first playthrough od DD2, but none of my subsequent playthroughs.
The final fight with Grigori (I know that the dragon in DD2 isn't Grigori but I will continue to call him that) was the biggest dissapointment ever, though.
In DD1 it was so cinematic and, if you were playing through the game for the first time, challenging.
In DD2, my pawn used maelstrom and killed him before I even got to hit him a single time: I genuinely thought my game had bugged and that was what caused him to die so fast.

The overall result of fighting a cyclops as L46 character is unsurprising, in DDDA L46 is NG+.

@@zadymek01 the monster is the same, it don't matter if its by the baby, if its in the everfall or in bitter black aisle.
Again, functionally it doesn't matter where he fights the ogre, it's still a base ogre in DD1.
Nothing would have been different even if he went to the one by the abbey.
