@The_Rift It'd be a lot easier to redeem it if they actually innovated on vocations instead of reducing skill slots, barely adding any new skills or vocations, and removing mystic knight.....after 10 YEARS of waiting we got "same same but different" and worse in many areas.
This game deserves to get dragged, simping for it like this will just tell them we'll accept that level of quality and never improve.

Yup, exactly, well said, which is why I want to see more spells, because the ones we have feel so good that leave me wanting to taste more or them, also I do miss 2 spells in particular, Ingle was actually amazing and Glicel too but that one is no surprise, Ingle was so amazing because you could freely aim it and it had insane range actually, I spent many afternoons sniping saurians in gransys with ingle at the river where you could see the saurians from a far, also sniping harpies from a distance or even setting a griffin on fire before it lands are highlights to me of the true power of Ingle, the most basic spell and yet one of the most useful. That and ofc I miss dearly being able to free aim spells, currently we can only free aim the silence spell for some reason 😭

Here's my issue with the 4 skillslots.
Part of the power fantasy I feel behind the archetypical wizard is having a tool for every job. Even in DD1, I felt extremely limited having 6 skillslots (and somewhat expected them to bump it to eight in the sequel tbh) but that limitation still allowed me to have enough spells to have good variety in combat.
In my mind, wizards don't just stand at the back of the pack casting the same spell over and over again (a problem Skyrim suffers from). Wizards hex and curse and debilitate and buff and control the battlefield. 4 skills simply isn't enough to cover all these things.
Now I agree, Sorcerer isn't weak because it has only 4 skills... it just doesn't feel like a magical mage. Part of the reason this works though for the other melee vocations is that the core combat is so strong in this game. With mage and sorcerer, this isn't the case as their core gameplay outside their selected spells is spamming magic bolt while slowly walking around. Their core gameplay in DD1 was the spells so it was important to have a good variety of them. Here, that isn't the case and I think that's why they suffer for it.

Personally though, I think the best wizard fantasy I’ve felt is in Outward. The spells themselves may not be as visually powerful as Dragon’s Dogma or BG3 but the actual process immerses you in the role of a wizard, forcing not only your character but you the player to learn how to cast and use spells.

What is up with this toxic fanboys? This is constructive criticism and a good point.
Sorcerer in dragon's dogma dark arisen had many tools to make sorcerer incredible fun and while this game does a lot of thing good in combat the lack of skills truly affect sorcerer, mage and archer the most.
Sorcerer could really benefit more from more skill and spells, not to mention the aguments/boons have lost a lot of their flare which is a very bad downgrade since charged bolts are lacking in all aspects.
Criticism helps improve the game, it's called feedback.

2 quick cast rings lets the maister spells be used mid combat much easier. Of course my favorite is to meteoron into a spellhold meteoron and immediately drop to the ground in my best Megumin impression. Something I don't see mentioned often is that you can aim where meteoron comes from by pointing the camera in that direction. This lets you use the spell in tighter areas sometimes.

Even going all in on being a trickster and making enemies fall off cliffs, run around in circles, etc, I feel like they should had more buff/debuff options for allies and enemies, and maybe even a DOT attack of some kind, like poison smoke. I feel like a DOT attack would really enhance the gameplay of tricking enemies while they slowly die over time.

I played every class in dd2 and the only misfire is magic archer and that ONLY when compared to the first game. You're trying too hard, man. DD2 Sorc is insanely weak when lined up against the other vocations. (maybe not trickster) Is it really good on a pawn to just melt enemies? Yes. Is it really good for giving enemies elemental debilitations? Yes. But it will never hold a candle to what DDDA did for Sorc, especially with how clunky it feels in DD2 and the lack of ways to defend yourself as a sorc. Mage even beats out sorc in this regard because it has a spell to give itself a shield. Of course Thundermine is a strong option for defense as a DD2 sorc but if you end up running into enemies and you dont have that down, you better expect to get stunlocked for a good while, especially early game when you dont have dwarven upgraded armour.
This isnt even to mention how nerfed Sorc feels compared to DDDA sorc as well, the lack of spells hurts all level of unique play you could have as the class, the lack of heavy hitters outside of Bolide and Maelstrom make it feel like you're just a mage with less QoL options for spells because all you have are quick, lower damage spells that are used to spam rather than big spells that were made to melt enemies with style. (so no, flare does not count) Lets not forget btw that one of the TWO heavy hitting spells (maelstrom) doesnt even suck enemies in the area into the tornado that it makes, meaning the spell is just a massive stam eating miss machine.
I think one of my biggest gripes with sorc in DD2 though is how bad the base animations for the character are and how little control you actually have over the character. If you do normal attacks, you are locked into an animation of your character putting his staff down before you're allowed to start sprinting, this means that if you're trying to get small, faster mobs off of you, they're going to catch up and be able to hit you before you're able to run. Add that onto the issue of the heavy base attack stopping you from moving and you have enemies instant jumping on top of you. ALSO add that onto the fact that the lock on for the base attack has a mind of its own and you're just dealing with a headache. Then you have the animations for the spell casting, why is there an animation AFTER the charge of spells that takes forever to play? Thundermine is massive pain to put down mid combat because of this, even with extremely fast cast times because the animation after the charge is overly long for no reason.
People act like quickspell is amazing but honestly, it just feels like it gave the devs an excuse to give us less spell control and variety. We used to be able to cast lesser versions of spells if we wanted to cast things faster because the lesser versions of spells were part of the charge time. Do i think quickspell is good as a mechanic? Yes but i dont feel like it was worth losing more options for what we can and cant do as a sorc, it makes losing spell slots even worse in my opinion. Spellhold would have been a better core skill than quickspell anyways.
Now, while im really negative about the current state of sorc in DD2, i have high hopes that they'll do the class justice if we get any content in the future, while them not buffing sorc at all in the last patch hurts a lot, i feel like the best way for them to buff the class is to give us more powerful spells to mess around with and if theres any way we'll get that, it will be in the form of a DLC. I would really like to see sorc get some level of a rework though, if any class in DD2 needs a lot more love, its sorc. It lost out on more than it got from its move from DDDA to DD2.

  • @Tyr_Ygg

I'm posting this comment here, maybe Capcom will read and be 'inspired' by the idea.
In DD1, there were 3 basic vocations + their 3 improvements. Playable by everyone. OK. Basic.
Only the last 3 which were 'mixed' vocations were reserved solely for Arisen. It was cool and original, okay.
BUT, in DD2, the situation has changed. Because there is now the Warfarer. So this 'originality' of DD1 is no longer applicable or even comparable.
So... Capcom : Why not make the Warfarer only exclusive to Arisen, and unlock mixed vocations for Pawns ???
I literally dream of having my Pawn Spearhand !
Moreover, this vocation that absolutely NOBODY plays... ' ' ' Trickster ' ' ' . It is, in my opinion, a null and fragmented vocation for an Arisen. But PERFECT for a Pawn who are, in any case and in their basic ideas, there to be support.

I think sorcerer is one of those vocations that only feel good because dragon's dogma 2 is extremely easy. when mobs and big enemies give you 10 years to cast your spells, yeah it feels great. but ask anyone about solo sorc level 1 against a pack of wolves. or if they increased enemy aggression and attack rate a bit. sorc requires a party, obviously you don't have to and it can be done without one. but for 90% of players who are of middling skill, they need a party and the game had to be balanced around that, thus enemies are extremely easy even with just 1 pawn on your side.
as for magic in DDO, i think it's more of a "it looks good" rather than it feels good. magic feels very bland to me, just fire and thunder, some ice with a weird throwing mechanic instead of.. you know, picking up the ice blocks with magic and throwing them that way.. I still don't get why they did that ice block thing when Mystic Spearhand already had telekinesis, proving it's possible in the world. DDO has much better magic and feels much better. DD2's magic felt like 1 step forward and 10 steps back. especially when considering the number of spells and magic classes we lost from DD1.
I know you're trying to hype up DD2 to show the fanbase isn't all toxic, but with Itsuno gone from capcom, and DD2 not doing as well as everyone thought it would, including me. I think it's safe to say that Dragon's Dogma is done. I doubt we're getting a DLC and even if we do, I doubt it'll do much of anything to redeem DD2's launch. Players like us who love the franchise to death will play it, of course. but i don't think many of the new players that played DD2 as their introduction to Dragon's Dogma, will come back. a few of my friends who never played dd1 went back and played dd1 after dd2, said DD1 felt so much better to play and a couple of them got hooked on the bitterblack grind. DD2 not launching with something similar was their biggest mistake, the lack of vocations and new vocations was their second. when you lay it all out, we got 1 new vocation. after 10 years. 1. I don't count trickster because 99% of people didn't play it. who wants to play a mage that can't do damage. i still don't know why they added trickster, it didn't add anything to the game except a funny challenge for content creators to make videos on. "CAN YOU BEAT ALL OF DD2 AS TRICKSTER WITH NO PAWNS?!!".

The only negative is that they went lazy with the ultimate skills by locking existing spells in DD1 behind them. I was really hoping to see those spells at the later voc lvls and then the ultimate skill be something completely new and awesome

Played DD2 when it launched like I like to play DD1: Sorcerer duo with my pawn + some invited pawn distraction when going into a hairy areas.
I had tons of fun just blasting everything that wants to pick a fight with me, but damn aren't there a lot of things that want to pick a fight with you in the sequel. I wish they could have packed them more densely so you have some enemy sparse areas and bigger clusters of enemies between.
Anyway the Sorcerer suffers from the 4 skill slot limit. The Flare is unmatched at taking down large enemies to the point it is permanently equipped. That's 3 skill slots left. Meister skills are all great, but you can only pick one because too few slots, two left.
Out of these two the ice cloud, ice spike are great, Thundermine is very situational but super useful, Levin is versatile but lacks impact, the fire ground thing is very good but it is a pain to land well. I haven't played with the flame thrower and the rest of the spells too much, Spell storage I assume would be amazing, but equipping it on those last two slots feels like it would left me without crucial tool.

I went and hit new game plus after holding off for a while just to play Mage and Sorcerer from the start.
It’s super fun, but I miss having my portcrystals set up. And yeah, I’d like to get back spells like Necromancy and whatnot that were in the first game.

They are fun to play but they are so limited with spell choice and missing those 2 slots really limits the setup you use. It is one step forward and two steps back. Like most of this game it is half baked. I so desperately want to like it like the first one but it is just not there yet, hopeful for a massive dark arisen like dlc

Magic in Dragon's Dogma looks very cool indeed, but the casting mechanic is little more than watching a cutscene. Which is fine, I always play as a caster in DD. For a truly engaging magic system, check out Wizard of Legend.

I stopped using sorcerers pawns mid game cause they were so much stronger than me, that I wasn't even playing, but is a really amazing vocation (And you can always use mods to give you more spell slots.)

I don't know if I'd call Dragon's Dogmas magic peak, a lot of spells have a good oomph to them and it's pretty satisfying to fire them off, but most of them don't really do any particularly interesting things.
Plenty of games have done much more with their magic systems, Magicka, PoE, Noita. I think DD2 did some good things, continuous casting on stuff like Levin is great, but overall the magic doesn't do a lot that either wasn't already done in DD1 or DDON.
Most if it is surface level coolness, wide as a lake, deep as a puddle.

I think people saying Sorcerer was bad were just not really into the vocation. Like; even in DD1/DA you were still slowly building up to the big moments, and were trying to not get interrupted. The gameplay fantasy is pretty much the same. While I think Mage definitely got the bigger glow up; Sorcerer is still fun to play, even if limited.
The people who actually knew what they were talking about were the ones bringing up painful cuts to Sorcerer's kit, and the lack of spell slots. The former being an issue for Sorcerer, and the latter being an issue for almost all vocations. Like; did we still need to share some spells with Mage? Would it have been cool to have Dark damage? Why do we have a status proc skill, but no actual ailment spells? Little things that added up to ultimately lessen the fun of Sorcerers over many of our playtimes.
I think the sad part about the spell cuts is; even if you bring them back, you still have only 4 slots to play around with, so its always going to feel like you're missing spells you should have. Unless the update/DLC adds more slots for all vocations; which I really think would just make the game even better, for every vocation overall lol

Galvanize and quick spell are amazing additions, but I was highly disappointed with the vocation when I first unlocked it. I’ve taken more of a liking to it since, but i still think it falls short of its DD1 counterpart in terms of power and enjoyment

99% of the people complaining about DD2 being "too easy" have not tried playing the game without pawns as trickster, and they blame the game for not bullying them enough.
When the weak court death, they find it, as grigori says, challenge seekers must seek out challenge rather than complaining about how they aren't struggling in a power fantasy game. Soulslikes turned so many gamers into "challenge" addicts, but also made them too lazy to actually challenge themselves rather than begging devs for a free sample of challenge every day.

DD2 streamlines but improves the sorcerer yet people cry about two spell slots. Instead of being negativity leeches go and play DD1 and enjoy your clunky caster with six spell slots. If this video hasn't convinced the naysayers that the sorcerer is good in DD2 then nothing will.

  • @duobizarrobizarro
    @duobizarrobizarro Місяць тому

I always tell new DD2 players to get Dark Arisen (it's absurdly cheap btw) to see how much better the magic was in every single way.
Not only talking about the 6 spell slots letting you juggle and build for a variety of situations (granted in DD2 you don't need it because you'll be fighting either goblins, or cyclops... Or more goblins... Or more cyclops...) but you also have a bunch of additional spells to choose from.
Also, still mad they butchered Assassin and Mystic knight for a weird pointy stick guy and some useless vape dude that the best it can do is stun stuff for 8 seconds.

  • @robertrainford6754
    @robertrainford6754 Місяць тому

Dude you can’t solo as a sorcerer. Iv got stun looked to death multiple times because despite the quick cast the spells are far too slow. The spells in the game shouldn’t take you ten seconds to cast or longer unless it’s one of the master spells.

Have to disagree with there. Soul Sacrifice and Soul Sacrifice Delta is literally all about Sorcery. Absolutely unmatched in that classification.
Folklore is another example that did magic gameplay beyond it's time.
Dragon's Dogma 2 feels slow and clunky in comparison. I'm sorry. There's no saving this game from anything.
