Mike Soldano is a beautiful, humble, and amazingly talented human being. He spent 30 minutes on the phone, talking to me, when at that current time, I couldn't afford to buy one of his amps. I let him know that, and he didn't even care. However, quite a few months ago, I bought a Purple Tolex Soldano SLO 30 from Sweetwater, just like I told Mike I would eventually do, and the quality and tone of the amp, blew me away. Just the crunch tone, all by itself, is worth the price of the amp. Mike told me he was from my favorite state, amazingly beautiful in the USA...Washington State. I told him that my Dad's Mom's side of the family was from Vashon Island, Seattle, and Bainbridge Island, and how I've been vacationing on Bainbridge Island, Washington my whole life. It's my favorite place in the world to be. Mike is a first class human being, and a Tone and Amp God, in my book. His amazing amp line speaks for itself. Hello again Mike, from Sonny in New Orleans, La. I'm very happy that your health issues got better, so you could stay in business with your amps. God Bless You and Your Family, Brother.

George Lynch always had that great tone. Every amp he plugs in to is him. I love the way he plays. Eddie Van Halen had the tapping/blues/speed/rock/tremolo type thing. Randy Rhoads had the classical/metal sound/speed/ occasional tremolo, but George Lynch sounded exotic to me. He had that sliding/jack off vibrato, I love how his tiger guitars looked, he’s a great improviser, looks badass, could play speed licks when he wanted to, he could keep up with any player in my opinion. George Lynch always had his signature sound.

Ive met George and he has some pretty sad self-depreciating humor and it kind of broke my heart. That dude did more to further shred playing than most player and I personally consider him a much bigger influence on me than EVH ever was. He IS the 80's rock sound.

George has always been at the top of my list.. at times it's unfortunate some of the greats get tied to the wrong bands. not that dokken was bad, but just another 80's band when the general public looks at the era.

    • @psaint60
      @psaint60 2 роки тому +6

Yeah, I had an interesting experience, probably 4 years ago, I was looking through the entertainment section of The Reader and happened to see a listing that Lynch Mob was playing at a small club in a suburb just north of Chicago. I was thinking Fock! It has to be sold out already. But I called, they still had tickets, so I bought two since my younger brother was a huge Dokken fan. Fast forward to the day of the show. I’m talking with my brother trying to figure out how early to get there to get a seat. I think I was there like 90 minutes early on a Friday night. I expected to turn the corner and see a line of 100 down the side of the building-there wasn’t a soul. I must have walked by the place 4 times checking the address, the date. This was like an Italian restaurant , tables with lots of people in their 70s eating their pasta. Finally a manager could tell I looked lost and he led me over to a side door that opened into a very small bar room with a stage. I think there was 4 or 5 sofas in front of the stage the rest was high top bar tables. There were maybe 25 people there when I got there. By showtime, the place was comfortably full but probably not more than 200. Like you said, there was a pretty intimate dialogue with the crowd and George was saying he was a little tired because he drove himself from their last gig -like a 6 hour drive. It was wild the drummer was really busting his balls until George came back with some brutal zinger that the whole crowd was like”Ohhhhh!!”
Everyone there was a die hard Lynch fan and so they were really cool about asking, “you guys wanna hear this or this” They sounded great and I think they got energized by the crowd.
That night got me thinking about the careers of really great guitar players who weren’t singers. It seems like a lot of them sort of plateau at a certain point, but never reach that next level that the Eric Claptons,SRV, and Robben Fords of the world. There aren’t a lot of them: George, Robin Trower, Santana, warren Di Martini, joe satriani, richie blackmore, jeff beck, jimmy page. I guess maybe can feel
more connected to guitarists who are also vocalists because it gives the illusion of knowing how that person thinks vs guitar only guys who seem to play their cards closer to the vest.

Hey George-as long as you’re inspired-pick up the phone and give Jeff Beck a holler. You two talk about your music in very much the same way.
Obviously, you two have a similar approach sonically, getting stuff far beyond what the fretboard has to offer.
But what I’ve always admired about both of you is your willingness to experiment and not be pigeonholed into one style or type of song.
IMHO at a certain point Jeff was so far beyond his contemporaries, he looked bored when he would sit in at a Clapton show, same when he played with Slash.
Clearly, as evidenced by his recent appearances with Johnny Depp, Jeff needs to get out of the house and is desperate for like-minded company.
It’s an understatement to say you are far better suited to this task. I think you two in the same room would produce some truly awe inspiring guitar playing.
Jeff is sending you a sonic cry for help. Help a brother out!

I just went all in an bought the new SLO100 and it is so flexible and perfect no matter where you set the controls. Life is short. I love my Friedman and Marshall jcm800’s but this is different

The only things I wish the amp had are a 4, 8, 16 ohm switch like the tube versions, and a regular 3-prong power cable instead of the little pedal-like barrel plug.

Yeah, this is really cool. I Especially like the effect's loop. You can hear the solid state limitations for sure, but it sounds really great for what it does. Anyone would be happy to have this in their collection. I will pick one up really soon.

Kills me when Lynch says he doesn’t know theory. Dude…I’ve heard quite a few lessons & interviews from the man for years & just have never believed that one bit. 😂 My all time favorite guitarist, & criminally under appreciated. EVH got all the publicity, but George was always there with him in every way IMO.

This Mini SLO sounds incredible !!! If it sells well, would you consider manufacturing a two channel version with a clean-ish channel and an overdrive channel with two separate gain controls switchable from overdrive to distortion. Increase the power section to 150 watts RMS, sell it for around $1000 and I'm all in.

For awhile I've been interested in finding an analog/solid-state SLO in-a-pedal... apparently Mike Soldano was two steps ahead of me.
It's weird to realize there's an SLO that costs less than all the classic '90s solid state amps that are so popular in death metal and grindcore.
