@@mexican_lilmermaid Is the quality different if you have a photo captured from the camera or a photo that you have transferred from your phone? The camera for the mini Evo is 4.9 megapixels so that might be part of the issue. That being said, I definitely wouldn't characterize the images as blurry. When you transfer the photos to your phone after printing or to your computer with an SD card, do they download with the white border or like the complete picture?
Great question! When you transfer from an SD card, there is no white border and the file size is usually 1.2 to 1.3 MB. When you transfer directly from the Mini Evo to your phone there is a white border and the file size is 0.8 to 0.9 MB.
I am not sure why you don't have the green square for focus that can be seen at the 2:14 mark of the video. When I slightly depress the shutter release button to focus, I don't see it but after a short delay (as the camera focuses), it shows up. It allows me to focus and lock exposure and then recompose without lifting my finger off the slightly depressed shutter release button. I thought it might have something to do with face detection being turned on or off but it shows up for me for both. It also shows up when macro is on or off. Is your firmware for your camera is up to date?
Do the images have that typical "polaroid" brand style old camera effect when you print them. Or do they print like a digital camera image would look if you printed it on glossy paper.
Great question. I have a couple of Polaroid cameras and I would say that those images have more of faded look when compared to the mini Evo. I haven't directly compared a mini Evo print to a photo printed on glossy paper. A couple of other things are the Instax prints take a lot shorter time than polaroids to develop. Also, Polaroids have to be kept out of the sun while developing but the Instax prints are fine in light.
@@thephotographytoolkit Yeah I thought that much unfortunately, I think i might still get the evo because for a college/uni student it saves a lot on prints and worst case I can use the "retro" filter to give it a more polaroidy look
@@excusememai One of the best things about the Evo is that you don't have to print every image and you can download the digital images. They aren't the largest files so you can't really enlarge them a lot but it is great that you can see what you will get for your print before you choose to print it. Dang I ordered a mini 12 for my daughter but canceled because I found out about the mini link 3 printer. She already uses my old 11 pro and 7 plus iPhones, and would rather just pick the best photos to print. Then I saw the LiPlay and now I’m browsing Evo reviews. Do you know if we can use the link 3 app and print to the Evo? Thanks
Thanks for the comment. No - you can't use the Instax 3 app to print to the Evo, you have to use the Instax Evo app (instax.com/mini_evo/en/#app) to connect and print. We also had a small stand alone printer like the mini link 3 that we used for my daughter to print photos from her phone too. But she LOVES the Evo because she can still print photos from her phone and use the Evo as a camera. As a bonus it is cool and stylish which she really likes. :)
Any pictures that you print can be wirelessly transferred from the Mini Evo to your phone with the Instax Mini Evo app. If you want to transfer the pictures from the SD card directly to your phone (that you haven't printed) there are a couple of hacks like tricking the camera into thinking that it has printed the picture with an empty film cartridge. However, I think it is much easier and faster to just connect the SD card to a computer and then wireless transfer them to your phone from there. One thing to note, if you transfer from the Instax Mini Evo to your phone the photo will look like a print and have a white border and will be between 0.8 and 0.9 MB. If you put the photo onto a computer from the SD card, the photos won't have a white boarder and will be between 1.2 and 1.3MB.
Yes - any photos that you have captured that you want to transfer to your phone need to be printed first. This is definitely a limitation of the camera. There are 2 work arounds. 1. Put a micro SD card in the camera and use that to transfer the images to your phone via computer (a pain and not super fast but it works) 2. Trick the camera into thinking you have printed the picture. (also a pain because you have to finish the film and it isn't quick) Matejphoto explains the process: ua-cam.com/video/442TCPqfTA0/v-deo.htmlsi=sKYMjNefl6yOwn-n&t=114 I tend to use the first method as it is pretty easy.
When you transfer the photo from the Mini Evo to a phone wirelessly using the Instax app it doesn't include any of the metadata other than the number of megapixels and the size of the photo. But if you use a micro SD card and transfer to a computer the metadata will come with the image. I hope that helps.
Looking great but what happens when the built in apparently non-replaceable battery fails... straight into the bin thus creating more unnecessary waste?! When they do these with AA batteries then might consider it.
I totally understand that. Although, I think most people would use non rechargeable AA batteries and I wonder how many batteries people would go through over the course of the life of the camera.
Great question. I don't know anything about the Kodak Pixpro FZ55 other than what I can look up online. I think they are very different cameras. The Instax Mini Evo does't have a lot of megapixels (4.9MP) compared to the Kodak (16MP) so the Kodak will give you much better picture quality. The Mini Evo allows you to print in camera while the Kodak doesn't. The Kodak has a 5X zoom lens while the Mini Evo has a fixed lens. The Mini Evo has filters and effects while it doesn't look like the Kodak does have any of those features. The Mini Evo is a good option if you have a phone and you want to print those images or also print the images captured with the Mini Evo. If you don't have a decent phone camera, then I would probably go with the Kodak. Hope that helps.
1:19 you can only transfer photos that you have printed (PRINTED IMAGE TRANSFER). Or alternatively, use the SD card you inserted. But you cannot simply shoot 100 photos and transfer them with frame effect to your phone, unless you buy 10 paper packs ($$$$) and print them all. There are some workarounds, but this has been really annoying for me...
Thanks for the comment. You are totally right. You can only transfer photos that you have printed. There are a couple of work arounds including tricking the Instax Mini Evo into thinking it has printed pictures or using a digital photo which you have transferred and using software like photoshop to place the photos you download from the card onto the frame of one of the framed photos. I do appreciate being that I can get the photos off the camera using the micro SD but I agree, this is really annoying.
Can someone tell me if there’s a version for square shape Polaroid? I tried out that mini evo from my friend and love it but I don’t like the modern slim Polaroid and prefer the square vintage one. 😭 I keep waiting for them to make a square version but I am losing hope…
Yes - you are correct. You can just capture digital photos with the camera and it is not necessary to print them. It should be noted that the camera is only 4.9 megapixels so the images from the camera are not ones that you can enlarge to big sizes.
The camera is automatic so you can't control the shutter speed. It is a point and shoot. The battery is internal so you just need to plug in the camera and charge it.
I would say it is ok for landscapes. It is only a 4.9 megapixel camera. I would probably lean towards using my iphone when taking landscapes as I have more lens options and the dynamic range of the iphone is much better. If you are interested, you can see my latest video where I compare capturing images of the same subject using both the Instax mini Evo and my iphone: ua-cam.com/video/sjd_O5osyOM/v-deo.html
it depends on what u want. the mini 12 is the classic polaroid whilst the evo is a hybrid with digital elements. Would u like the camera to be more digital? if yes then evo is for u. If u don't mind being able to pic the picture that is printed and having the spontaneousness of the mini 12 then go for that!
I totally agree with what @lilly7_7 has said. When it comes to my preference, I prefer to be able to print only the photos I want to and not have to print every photo. I also like that I can print multiple photos and print photos from my phone. So, I would choose the Instax Mini Evo.

Do you think this will come in a Square model? I feel like the mini is just too small.... I know they have the SQ20 and SQ10 but they are design wise pretty unattractive compared to the Mini Evo..
Great question! I have actually recently just purchased a Mint TL70 plus camera which uses square Instax film. It is a TLR camera and I think it is absolutely beautiful. The screen is the same size as the print so you see what you get. It isn't a hybrid camera like the Mini Evo so you can't choose which images you print but I am really excited about the larger print size. It also allows for automatic or manual control so I am looking forward to exploring the possibilities. It is a more expensive option than the SQ20 and SQ10 so we will see if it is worth it. Maybe check out the Mint cameras as there are some other options that take Instax film: mint-camera.com/en/shop/cameras/
@@thephotographytoolkit Thank you so much for replying! The TL70 looks amazing, but definitely out of my price range lol. Especially as a first camera. I found an unopened, never used SQ10 for s reasonable price, so I just bought it! And I'm very excited, despite it's clunky design😅 While getting it, I saw the square and mini photos side by side and decided that the mini prints aren't too small after all! But that i was still happy with my purchase, sooo...I will probably end up with an Instax Mini Evo in addition to the SQ10. I think they serve different but equally great purposes. The square cameras are very big (the SQ weighs almost 500 grams) and the Evo is going to be more portable. I'm really looking forward to learning about instant cameras and having a more present and analog life:)
@@googleuser25 That is fantastic that you got a SQ10 for a reasonable price. I hope you enjoy capturing images with it. Any camera that takes the square format film will definitely be larger so there isn't much that can be done about that. Having both the SQ10 and the mini Evo will give you options and I would just try to enjoy each camera for what they are. Have fun!
Thanks for the question Mar. I have never used the Canon Zoemini S2 but looking at the specifications I can share some preliminary thoughts. 1. A big part of the fun for me with the Instax Mini Evo is the filters and effects. That is what makes the camera so much fun. You can see my favourite creative techniques here: ua-cam.com/video/fsDirWOgxms/v-deo.html When I compared the Mini Evo to my iPhone (ua-cam.com/video/sjd_O5osyOM/v-deo.html) I found that they each made me look at situations differently. I am personally not a fan of the advertised effects on the Zoemini S2 where you put words on the photos. That just doesn't do it for me. 2. The Canon does have many more megapixels than the Instax Mini Evo. So you will be able to do more with them if you download them. 3. On the website, Canon says that you can print 25 pieces of paper on a full charge. That doesn't seem like a lot to me. I am not sure how many the Instax can capture on a full charge but I was able to go out for a day and capture pictures and print them. 4. The big concern for me is the paper for the Canon. I am usually able to find the Instax paper pretty much everywhere. I have an older HP Sprocket which just prints photos from my smart phone and right from the beginning I had a lot of trouble getting paper for it. If the Canon Zink paper is easy to find then great. But I am not sure it is. 5. Canon's website said that the camera's printer has a "printer head life" of 1000 pages. So at some point that printer is breaking down and won't be able to be fixed. 6. I like that you can choose borderless prints with the Canon. To be honest, I would love to try out the Canon Zoemini S2 at some point if I can get my hands on it. I hope this was helpful.
Yes - they get saved to your camera roll. But you can only send the photos wirelessly to your phone that you have printed. Otherwise, I would recommend getting a micro SD card and then you can transfer those to your computer.
No - if the battery is dead, you can't use a power bank as an external battery and continue to capture images. However, a power bank can be used to charge the Instax Mini Evo.
@@denisesaoi933 Like anything, it depends on how much you are using it. If it is fully charged, I have no problem going out all day capturing images with it. If I am not using it, the battery holds a charge well and I pick it up after weeks of not turning it on and the battery is fine and ready to go.
Hi! Thanks for your review. I don't know if you'll see this since your video is older now but I had a question if you don't mind. Many reviews say that you cannot send FROM the Instax TO your phone unless you have printed the photo first. Is that true? It seems like a very peculiar limitation and I don't see why that would be the case, yet I did see it mentioned several times in written reviews online. Thanks in advance for your clarification.
Thanks for the comment and question. I think it is funny that you say that my video is older because it is less than a year old and one of my newer videos. 😂 You are correct that if you haven't printed the picture on the Instax Mini Evo, the camera will not give you the option of sending it to your phone. That is definitely a pain. My guess as to why they did this is because I might take a lot of photographs of one subject on my Evo and only choose to print a limited number and maybe they assume the limited number are the ones I want to send to my phone. If I had to scroll through all the hundreds or thousands of photos I have on my camera it might take some time and I might not know which one is the one I like best between similar shots. It would be great if, when transferring to my phone, I could choose between all photos or photos I have printed. That would give me options but still make it easy to find and print the photos I like best and have printed. An option of favouriting photos and viewing just those would work as well. One of your options is tricking the Mini Evo into thinking you have printed as outline here: ua-cam.com/video/442TCPqfTA0/v-deo.html That process is quite time consuming. I prefer the second option. The second option is just to use a micro USB card and download the photos to your computer then your phone. The photos won't have the white border as they would if you transfer right from the phone. If I really want the white border, I just use a program like photoshop to combine a photo that I have printed and transferred that has the white border with the one from my micro USB. Then I transfer from my computer to my phone. I hope that make sense and I hope that helps.
@@thephotographytoolkit haha, that's my misunderstanding of UA-cam from the content creator's end. I've asked questions on other videos and never got answers and assumed it's because the video is "old" and they never saw it. Thanks so much for your thorough reply and I'll keep that work-around in mind. Yes, it makes sense what you say. To be honest, I'm not a big photographer since everything went digital and I'm kind of just looking at options to have physical photos again. My mother had a Ricoh of some sort when we were growing up and us kids really didn't know how to use it properly but my god did we take so many photos! I feel like the magic has been lost a little now, ya know? I may go ahead and pick up a second hand camera from eBay in the end - just checking my options here and the Instax seems really fun and the limitation on transferring them isn't so bad in comparison to the old days when we couldn't even see our results for weeks so I am sure I will adapt - it just seemed like a strange limitation to build into a semi-digital camera. Haha. Thanks again for the reply and also the great videos, I was up at 2am watching you and other creators and I feel really excited about film cameras again!
@@TheLiquidCat It is all good! On my end, I try my best to answer questions the best I can. Thanks for the reply. I love both digital and analog photography and I do a bunch of both. I try to appreciate each for what they are and the challenges that come with each format. When it comes to the Mini Evo, I was attracted the the fact that I could capture photos with the camera and also print any photos from my phone. I really like that I can select photos to print and don't have to print everything. I totally understand when you say it is nice to have physical photos. I actually make it a point to get larger photos (30x40 inches or 50x75cm) printed every year and those are from digital files. I also get a book printed of images of my kids every year - like a year in review. Having physically printed photos is fantastic. In fact, the analog images that I capture on film are often scanned so I can share them or use them in other ways. I think what I am trying to say is that I really encourage people to get images printed and not just leave them as digital files and it doesn't matter if the image was captured as a digital file or an analog file. And I love the Mini Evo because it is really easy to capture images and share them. I especially like it when I am out taking pictures of people. I have even captured an image with my DSLR and wirelessly transferred it right away to my phone and then printed it with the mini Evo so I can share a portrait with the person I just took a picture of. That way it acts like a mini photo printer. I hope you enjoy whatever camera you decide to get.
Interesting question. Do you mean can it connect to print images captured on the camera to print those pictures on a Fuji printer? I don't have a Fuji printer but I am not sure if it connects to any printer because you just print the images right in the camera.
@@watch_kitty The Instax Mini Evo's micro USB connections are for charging only and not image transfer. I could transfer the image wirelessly from my Mini Evo to my phone and then I could try to print that image from my phone to the Instax Wide. I don't have an Instax Wide to test that but that should be a method that works because you can print from your phone to the Instax Wide.
@@thephotographytoolkit Bit of a roundabout way of doing things isn't it though? Thought Fuji would've thought about that when designing it. ...however, if I do recall there is a newer model of the Mini Evo that has USB C. Could that possibly be able to connect to the printer?

@@thephotographytoolkithey I just got mine and saw so many great reviews on it but honestly not having such a good time with since most of my pictures are coming out quite bad…. The quality of faces seems very blurry and I’m comparing it to my mini 8 and my mini 8 quality is way better yet older… any advice ? Are yours coming out like that too ?
@@mexican_lilmermaid Is the quality different if you have a photo captured from the camera or a photo that you have transferred from your phone? The camera for the mini Evo is 4.9 megapixels so that might be part of the issue.
That being said, I definitely wouldn't characterize the images as blurry. Do you have an opportunity to test a different mini Evo in a camera store and see if it is your particular camera that is the problem or you are seeing the same problem everywhere?

To be honest, you will probably get better results with your phone for landscape photography. The sensor in the Mini Evo isn't huge.

Yes you are correct. If you are using a card in the Mini Evo, you can take the memory card out of the camera and download the photos off of the card.

4:03 why don't i have the green square for focus?

can I save the pictures from the SD card to my phone? I've seen people have to do hacks to same them?
Hi, do you have to print the photos before on the camera to be able to transfer them to the app to share on social media?
Yes - any photos that you have captured that you want to transfer to your phone need to be printed first. This is definitely a limitation of the camera.
There are 2 work arounds.
1. Put a micro SD card in the camera and use that to transfer the images to your phone via computer (a pain and not super fast but it works)
2. Trick the camera into thinking you have printed the picture. (also a pain because you have to finish the film and it isn't quick) Matejphoto explains the process: ua-cam.com/video/442TCPqfTA0/v-deo.htmlsi=sKYMjNefl6yOwn-n&t=114
I tend to use the first method as it is pretty easy.
Can I connect it with my Android like iPhone and print photos?
Yes you can - play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fujifilm.instaxBo19&hl=en_SG&gl=US&pli=1
Can the camera send data of a photo to smartphone?

Hi, i want to own a camera. What do you recommend this hybrid camera or digital camera like Kodak Pixpro FZ55?

The Fujifilm SQ10 and SQ20 shoot Instax square film. Both are discontinued and very overpriced. Thankfully I’ve had mine for years.
hi, thanks for your video! you can use this camera even if you just want digital photos? i mean, it's not necessary to print one of them?
Yes - you are correct. You can just capture digital photos with the camera and it is not necessary to print them. It should be noted that the camera is only 4.9 megapixels so the images from the camera are not ones that you can enlarge to big sizes.

Hi Abdallh - I am not sure what you are saying. Can you say more?
I wonder how's the shutter speed, battery. can you explain about it?

The camera is automatic so you can't control the shutter speed. It is a point and shoot. The battery is internal so you just need to plug in the camera and charge it.
@@nabilahjpg196 You can't make videos on the camera. There is a 2 and 10 second timer for capturing images.

hey! i am actually deciding which camera is better. instax mini 12 or Evo. What do you think?
it depends on what u want. the mini 12 is the classic polaroid whilst the evo is a hybrid with digital elements. Would u like the camera to be more digital? if yes then evo is for u.
Hello!
Thank you for the helpful guide.
I’m still hesitant between this version of Fujifilm and the Canon Zoemini S2.
Which one would you recommend?
Thanks for the question Mar. I have never used the Canon Zoemini S2 but looking at the specifications I can share some preliminary thoughts.
1. A big part of the fun for me with the Instax Mini Evo is the filters and effects. That is what makes the camera so much fun. You can see my favourite creative techniques here: ua-cam.com/video/fsDirWOgxms/v-deo.html
When I compared the Mini Evo to my iPhone (ua-cam.com/video/sjd_O5osyOM/v-deo.html) I found that they each made me look at situations differently.
When you send the photos to your phone, are these saved to your iPhone camera roll?
Yes - they get saved to your camera roll. But you can only send the photos wirelessly to your phone that you have printed. Otherwise, I would recommend getting a micro SD card and then you can transfer those to your computer.
Can it be used while connected to a power bank?
No - if the battery is dead, you can't use a power bank as an external battery and continue to capture images. However, a power bank can be used to charge the Instax Mini Evo.
how long will it take to be lowbattery? :) and how many hours of charging? @@thephotographytoolkit
You are correct that if you haven't printed the picture on the Instax Mini Evo, the camera will not give you the option of sending it to your phone.
One of your options is tricking the Mini Evo into thinking you have printed as outline here: ua-cam.com/video/442TCPqfTA0/v-deo.html
That process is quite time consuming.
Can this connect to the printers Fuji makes?
Interesting question. Do you mean can it connect to print images captured on the camera to print those pictures on a Fuji printer? I don't have a Fuji printer but I am not sure if it connects to any printer because you just print the images right in the camera.
@@thephotographytoolkit What I mean is, can these connect to the Instax printers to be able to print pictures in, say, Instax wide?

You can transfer photos from the mini Evo to your phone (ua-cam.com/video/6Z4CjxbPNhI/v-deo.htmlsi=BSVsNrAKalwOY64C&t=70) but there are limitations. It will only let you transfer photos that you have already printed to your phone. You can trick the mini Evo to think it has printed some photos and then transfer them to your phone. Thanks for the heart😁i don,t like that they don,t sell this camera in stores in the netherlands but they do sell the mini 12. I am still doubting between the mini 40 en the mini evo. I lovs you,re channel and you,re pictures. Have a nice day or night👋🏾😁
I really like the different lens and film effects of the Mini Evo. I also love that I can print images wireless from my phone. Those 2 things really set it apart from the Instax Mini 40.

@@lifeismusicparnadonkers That is too bad that they don't sell the Instax Mini Evo in the Netherlands. The Mini Evo is new so is it possible it will be sold there in time?
@@lifeismusicparnadonkers That is fantastic you bought the Instax Mini 40! Enjoy the experience and let me know how it goes.

hmmmm ivdont know man,... plastyic???
Fair enough. I don't think it is meant to be a higher end camera. At least it keeps the weight down.
