I was in Nashville last spring and spotted Greg in the entrance at Gruhn's. I said a quick, "Hey, man love the Homeskookin' video cameos!" Greg proceeds to give me a tour of the entire store and spent a good chunk of time with me talking about his life and work. He introduced me to his whole luthier crew and we hung out in his office for a bit. You would have thought I was Little Tommy's long lost Croatian cousin or something from how well I was treated. It was one of those moments in life where you can't help but acknowledge and appreciate the greatness of another human being - not because of how ridiculously talented or accomplished Greg is. But by how equally well he treats and respects everyone - from the high and mighty Jim Irsay all the way down to meager guitar hacks like myself. Nothing but love for Greg Voros.
p.s. The impressive signature wall in Greg's office deserves a quick video at some point.

man Gregs story hit me hard, my mum was diagnosed with really aggressive MS when she was 40 and its been a rollercoaster. Shes tough as nails and keeps on, walking with two sticks, it can take her 10 minutes to get up her own stairs to bed, but she refuses to buckle and make things easier. I've had to grow up helping her and witnessing MS fuck her up, and yet the whole time her only priority has been helping me achieve my goals. Gregs right about the bladder shit, the confidence, balance, tiredness, bad temper - how anyone with a degenerative condition can keep their shit together and keep going blows my mind. Inspiring shit, Greg you a bad motherfucker. big love

I’m so sorry to find out Greg has MS. My mother was one of the first people to be diagnosed with it in 1958. It seems like Greg has the right attitude to deal with the challenges he will face. I am sure that the discipline he would have learned through boxing and his dedication and professionalism at Gruhns will help him. My mother managed to live a good life with the support of the family, but obviously there were huge obstacles to overcome. She had to slow down and pace herself otherwise she would suffer from extreme fatigue, but she also spent a lot of time helping others with the condition and became a sort of mother figure to many younger people in the MS community. She loved playing jazz piano but when she had to stop playing she spent a lot of time with me, listening to music and explaining how it worked. We ended up having a really special musical relationship which I am very grateful to have experienced. Best wishes from London!

My drummer has been living nearly his whole life with M.S. He has trouble with moving around in big ways and small ways…but when he gets behind the kit, it all evaporates and he’s as good as anyone else. He can only make it through about three songs, so we’ve always done a quick three or maximum four song opening set when we could…and it is magnificent. We valued our practice time and our short sets so much more than with any average drummer. There can be a long and fun life as a musician with M.S. even when it seems impossible or unlikely!

Really felt this. Watching this today on my 38th birthday thinking about my mother that passed away in 2015. My mother was diagnosed with MS in 1978. The doctors here I the U.K. diagnosed her and continued to tell her what she wouldn't be able to do in her life. My mother was a stubourn woman. She ignored their pecimism, she worked, had fun, had a child and had a life! Live your life mate, you're an inspiration! Tom you're a good egg too. Take it easy lads.

I became aware of Buk via That Pedal Show. Mick's 2019 (?) New Year resolution was to 'stop noodling' when he plays. It was either him or Dan who mentioned our peerless leader as one who NEVER plays aimlessly. I tuned in to this Cleveland guy in his Nashville garage, flipping off UA-cam trolls and playing like the world depended on it.
These few years later, here we are. Our friend (and world class badass) carries us along with him as he travels the human highway. The reason Greg trusts Buk isn't because of his musicianship, but because of his humanity. The reason this video exists is because of the strength and character of the community that has grown out of Buk's leadership. it is an honor to be counted among you all.

Still trying to find my way in this new reality.
It is an inspiration to see your passion for music/instruments. And the battle against MS. And the help for others struggling with MS.
    Thank you Greg.

What an amazing community around these guys. It goes to show you that life is really about the people you surround yourself with. Ditch the fake friends and find people who will be there for you no matter what, and you for them. Money doesn’t buy you that, which makes you wonder why so many people waste so much precious time chasing it. Greg’s journey with this diagnosis is just beginning, but man he’s already got the right attitude.

Once again.....being part of this Home Skooler community hits the heart hard. THANK YOU Greg for sharing everything you have gone through. This is the first year I have started to actually listen to what my body and brain are saying to me. The death of my Mother this year was when the dam broke as taking care of her during the last months of her life took their toll. And I thought I could just "push through" like I always did and exactly how my Dad was too. But I finally had the wake up call. Won't bore people here with my details, but just PLEASE listen to the signs your body, heart and mind send to you. Greg, I hope someday I can swing by when I am in town and can take you out for coffee just as a thank you!. And to your point, I put my Mom's favorite saying on her headstone "Live for Today". I have been dreaming of buying a great Gibson J200 since I was a wee lad. And I plan to buy it from Gruhn's because of how amazing of an organization they are. People first. Always. Thank you Larry. Thank you Greg. Sending love to the entire #Skoolerforlife crew!!

Hey Greg, real sorry to hear about your MS diagnoses.
A few years ago my partner and I had the pleasure of installing a wood floor in your house. I mentioned I had a dozen or so vintage guitars in my collection. You brought out a '54 Strat and let me check it out. First year of production. By far that was one time I will always remember. Holding that guitar was like holding guitar royalty.
You and your wife are some of the nicest folks I've ever met and I'm sure with the love of God and your loving family you will navigate thru these trouble times and come out on the other side just fine. Big respect. Thanks, Simon

My wife had a mini stroke type thing about a year ago. Months later, the neuro doc pretty much confirmed that she likely has MS. Thankfully for her, apparently not an aggressive version like Greg has. She elected to not go thru a spinal tap to fully confirm. And she wants to avoid taking any of the immune sys killin' drugs for as long as possible. Don't know what's to come. But, as we see often in life.....no matter how bad you think you got it..........somebody else is worse :-(

This community is so good. Up to 73k! I remember being nervous about my job and miserable in April of ‘20, I decided I was going to concentrate all my effort to my first love, the guitar. And soon I found this channel one day out of nowhere when it was just 6k of us and it changed my life. I’m playing better than I ever have in 51 trips around the sun getting ready to start playing out again. My 72 year old mother is playing again and learning from the channel. We bond over the episodes and we are coming to the birthday show. Look at the Home Skoolers now. Supporting each other and helping out guys like Greg to help other people! I’m buying some coffee. I’m proud to be one of the nephews. Looking forward to hanging out with Home Skool folks next month. Happy Thanksgiving to Tom , Greg and all of the class.
PS. Could you have Greg give us those finite details of a great set up? Especially when it come to fret size, string gauge and neck relief consideration like he mentioned tonight and how did he learn these details would be interesting.

Great video, thank you both. Greg, thank you for sharing your story. The things you said about being fortunate compared to others who don't have the means to keep their lives going struck a chord with me. I had cancer about 14 years ago and the first thing that hit me was that along with all the scare and uncertainty and everything that goes along with treatment, life does not pause. The things that needed to be done to provide for my family and just get through the grind of daily living is something that most people with serious illness face. I was fortunate in that what I did to make a living, along with the best wife a man could ever hope for, was enough for us to get through it with minimal bumps and bruises. 14 cancer-free years later, I do my best to help out others who are where I was. Good on you, Greg Voros, the middle-class philanthropist.

Wonderful episode, Tom. Greg, thanks for being so honest and real and what an incredibly generous and cool thing to do.
My guess is Vinnie got the Tattoo first!

Greg is the realest dude. It's a trip having such respect for someone you've never met, but here we are. Legend.

I took my family for vacation from (TX) to TN this summer. I had a list of shops I wanted to visit. Wife and kids weren’t interested (understandably). The folks at Gruhns were so welcoming and gave my boys and I a short history lesson in some of the older acoustics. They were enamored with it. Thank you for doing that for us!
