Put this woman on the payroll! The camera work is a blanket solution to pretty much everything someone could complain about with the audio. She's smooth, attentive and has a great eye for space and framing. Five stars.
I got to meet Tom today at Gruhn’s and wanted to say thanks for taking a few minutes to say hi. He was kinda busy and had people around him so I didn’t expect much time or much of a conversation, so it was still cool. But I will say, Corey and Greg are two of the most outstanding people I have ever met. I drove 10 hours to go to Gruhns on a trip to Nashville and Greg spent 45 minutes just shooting the shit with me like we had been friends for 20 years. Corey was much the same. Just outstanding people. I even got to meet the legend himself, George Gruhn! Anyways, you’re probably not going to remember me from the 15 minutes I was up in the room with you today watching a turtle eat lettuce, but thanks for your time.
Right with y’all…I hate it when anyone names their guitar, car, gun, etc. The only inanimate object that should be named is a boat. And it better be a pretty big, bad ass boat.
I walk into a guitar shop in Peterbrough, Ontario, Canada to get strings. Just as I'm checking out I asked the two guys there if they ever watch Tom Bukovac. Both guys reply in unison Uncle Larry with that sound of love and appreciation. We reminisced for about 15 minutes and finished by taking note that there was one Shining Light that came out of this pandemic situation. Thank you to the cast members and crew once again!!! 🎉❤🤣🤣🤣✌🏾🤙🏾🧇
OK, I do agree the 3 pup Black LP Custom is maybe one of the coolest guitars ever made. I’ve wanted one since I bought Frampton Comes Alive in junior high, from the Woolworths in my home town mall! Ugliest electric guitar ever made is anything from BC Rich. I freaking hate all that Vikings and Warlocks looking shit. Best looking electric, I’ve gotta say Les Paul, but the Tele is right behind it. Also agree the Rick Bass is amazing.
Gary is legend. We are lucky to have him. Also a mentor to myself and our crew at the shop. His band, The Melting 5 were everything great about NYC rock n roll. Love what you guys are doing - keep it up!
Corey sold me an Epi 335 and was phenomenal in the process. Greg threw a bone nut in ON THE SAME DAY!!andTony Nagy Gibsonized it - they take great care of people. I’m dork enthusiast that doesn’t play for a living and they gave me the Royal treatment- GO TO GRUHN’s!!!!
Its a good day when we get to see and hear George for a bit. I think we're all here because we love guitars, and our Uncle Larry, so George is like out Pope! I'm 71, and I can relate well to some of the things he says. I'd love to spend some time with him some day. 8) Just a couple notes; Things I dislike? The word "perform". We never said that, it was always "we are going to play tonight". Not "We are going to perform tonight". Monkeys 'perform', players 'play'. LOL Ugly guitar; Mosrite, with all those goofy angles and pups mounted cockeyed. Sexiest guitar; Has to be a Strat, just the curves/carves/shapes! Thanks so much to everyone around the table!! That was very special, we really appreciate it!! 8) Peace --gary
I watched this on ..like my 6th beer.. lol felt like I was partying with uncle Larry :) Good times! Thx Tom BTW I bought a 68 copy in 86 Strata.. from Steve's music store in zToronto Canada 🇨🇦
This is great, the conference room, the round table, great camera work, comedy, great stories, excellent chemistry here! Reminds me of the This Old House guys talking in the shop. Something about this just works.
Tom Bukovac is THE MAN. period. Bringing this incredible stuff to my living room is just priceless. The lads from the shop are sensational, everybody really know their shit and I feel at home because I agree with a lot of things. Finally having no other than Mr G. bringing us advice and his vast wisdom, for many of us is something almost impossible. Tom, your personality, your laugh and your love for guitars and music, your hunger for life is I gift for me, a big one . Thanks a million man. Much love from West Spain!
"You're not an elf" Haha, you guys are hilarious! I'm sitting here drinking some Greg Voros Blend out of my Homeskoolin mug. Great way to spend a Saturday morning. Tosa did a great job...I feel like I'm sitting in the room with you guys. Have a good weekend Homeskoolers
I love the kid-buying-a-guitar stories. I can relate. Although in my case I was 20, it was Summer 1988, at Guitar Center, and the salesman was probably my age or a year older. I had 300 bucks, and I walked out with a Kramer Aerostar ZX30H over a Squier Strat . In retrospect, I wish I'd gotten the Squier Strat, but the Kramer had **Select By EMG pickups**, and a bridge humbucker (ooh! ahh!, LOL).
AbsolutelY LOVE these casual, genuine conversations you post. There is so much knowledge, history and stories being shared......how can anyone even be bothered by whether or not the mic pics up every sentence perfectly or not?? Poppycock!! Pay attention to the stories and the GIFTS that are being shared with us. Pure gems every single time. Please, for the love of old mahogany, keep sharing these Tom. We love them and thank YOU for sharing!
That was excellent uncle Larry! It’s amazing, once you get ole’ George talking shop, he will go forever!!!! If you watch enough of these you will have a masters degree in Guitar heritage . 😊
I watched the entire thing while working. So entertaining. Before the internet, guitar knowledge was part of a secret society. Thanks for sharing the knowledge, brother. Ah, man! Thanks for bringing out my dream guitar. The aged yellow binding is so damn sweet. Frampton Comes Alive was massive when I started playing (we're talking '76) That 3PU BB on the album cover was my ideal guitar. I was po' boy so it wasn't gonna happen but I could dream. It'll happen. I don't name my guitars. I refer to them by model or builder. LOL! @ TGP amp builders. Ugly guitars: Firebird X. Not crazy about the Tyler headstock. Thanks you for the reverse V. Fugly!! Best Looking guitars: Black Beauty w/gold hardware, Mary Kaye strat, The Gibson Firebird & Explorer. My Trussart tele is bad ass. James makes cool looking guitars.
Love these Gruhn’s videos. I sincerely hope all the historical reference documents in that conference room have been scanned and that there is museum quality fire protection. It would be a shame to lose those originals if a fire or some other catastrophe would occur. Thanks Uncle Larry!!!!
Its all a totally wonderful blessing to get a little view into your life doing what you love, the thing that all the rest of us talentless mortals strive towards ..to .watch you practice your craft, share some of your sources of inspiration..seemingly impromptu arrangements that are absolutely gorgeous.. all of the above but for me personally a homeskoolin' episode is just a great chilled out haven safely insulated from the bullshit of life in general, thanks Lil Tommy from Ohio..love you man
Pro level camera work. No quivering. That was a tremendously enjoyable chat. Jimi's Woodstock strat, but Frank Gambale's Trini Lopez custom he plays on Magritte is Batman sexy cool.
Cameo by Vince Gill at the end. George knows his stuff. I always enjoyed hearing George and my dad Raymond Fairchild talk banjos backstage at the Opry.
Hot Damn!! Late night surprise, as I noodle around on guitar, while watching random surf videos, wishing I wasn't flat footed, and lived near an ocean.BOOM there's an Uncle Larry notification. Brother Bill's new Massive Hassle is out there and highly enjoyable - if you haven't caught it yet
Hi Tom thanks for the great content and to all the others who contibute there great knowledge. I am a born an raised surfer from South Africa we refer to the surfboards we have as our quiver. Its been used from day one in the surf world. I agree it doesnt fit with guitars lol. I am always inspired to imporve my guitar skills after watching. Have learned so much from the repair guys and what makes a quality instrument. thanks again cheers Grant
Finally got the chance to watch this episode. Great as usual. Always learn something. I listened with AirPods. You have no problem hearing the conversation.
In 1983 I bought the same “The Strat” in lake placid blue. It was the week I got married and my wife had no idea what she was she was signing up for. Forty years later while I’m watching this UA-cam we’re in a uhaul van hauling my gear from Arizona to Texas. She’s never complained once about my gear habit! Years later when I sold the “The Strat” my youngest daughter told me it was like selling her brother since the guitar was older than she was. 😊
When I went to Gruhn's I was so overwhelmed and nervous that I was kind of star struck if that makes sense. To see so many amazing instruments was great. The staff was extremely nice and made me feel very comfortable. I guess I was expecting the "Guitar Center" Sales approach where they only wanted you to look, but not at Gruhn's. Next time I will plan to spend some real time there. Great conversations Ya'll, thanks!
Beautiful in all of its unedited glory, Tom!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this!! And Tosa was a super trooper! I bet she didn't realize what she was getting into or she might have had second thoughts! 😜😅
Larry, you should call this King Larry and the Knights of the round table! Such a great episode, had to watch three times as so funny, insightful and rewarding. Legends one and all love it ❤
I'm bringin my copy of "Plexi Soul" on my hike of Kings Canyon this week. Get down with this awsomeness. Keep on getting down Nashville. !! Great conversations!!! amazing work!!!
I'm 63...I grew up playing & the vibe is real with old guitars. My favorite was a 50's maple neck Strat in Sherwood green that we thought was a worn out piece of shit that had wear on its maple neck & oxidised vibrato. My older brother traded a '63 Tele Custom with one ding on it & that Strat for a nice early 70's black Custom for both. At the time the deal was fair but it was at the height of the Led Zeppelin era and everybody needed a Paul. Timing is everything in the vintage guitar business, but I get sick thinking about that trade when you look at the market today
If I ever get a pink guitar (maybe a pink 335), I will feel obligated to call it "Ken". Just sayin'... (Not that that would EVER happen!) LOL Or, maybe Luffgato Hearn. I have no idea who or what that is. I just heard it once and it got stuck in my brain. Sorry... What was the question again? LOL Hey Tom, I met the beautiful Emm Gryner last weekend. You played all the guitars on her awesome new album, "Business & Pleasure". She popped into the gig I was playing last Saturday. Nice girl and great album! Loved your work on it. Cheers & hello from Stratford, Ontario, Canada. I love these totally chilled conversations/visits with you all. Fun stuff and lots of informative bits too. Tanx. Keep 'em comin'!
Hey boys!! I love these loose hang out videos where you guys just shoot the breeze about random stuff, brings back memories for me and as always are informative and give insight into various areas of the guitar /music business, from guys who have been around, and I feel like I'm sitting right there with you!! Keeping my mouth shut which I would probably do if I was there lol!! You guys are awesome, keep the videos coming!!
I love the dramatic irony of the guys signaling they are wrapping up the conversation. They don't know, but i know I don't have go to the grocery store for another 30 minutes. Big fan of the series.
A “The Strat” was a good guitar. They generally weighed a ton though. In 1986 I visited Gruhns when it was next to adult works. I was looking for a reissue Korina V. George showed me pic of some wild cat that looked like an Ocelot that was in his back yard. George also told me the impact Bloomfield had. He also wanted me to Play this Guild Nightbird GG that he had designed. The Guild was awesome but I felt it was too expensive for the time. I bought an 82 Korina V for 600 bucks. This week I finally bought the ‘86 Nightbird GG after 37 years.
Quiver = how many surfboards do you have in the back of your truck or garage because you think you're a pro surfer. Love this conversation...(gets another Creature Comforts Tropicalia from the fridge). By the way, I have a Suhr S with triple Thornbuckers and passionately love the middle one on its own...
Tom that was a really enjoyable video. I don't like the L6S either. I remember Carlos Santana endorsed it in an ad in Guitar Player back in the '70's. I played a few. I think the first version had a maple neck. It was the loudest guitar too with a not particularly pleasing sounding or feel. Not aesthetically pleasing to look at either. Every box was left unchecked with that model. Tom you ask great questions too. Great hang out. It felt like I was at the table with you guys.
Camera lady did an awesome job! Great zooming in and out. Not always showing the person talking. That was some great work. Is she a professional? Loved this! ❤❤❤
In the 70’s I worked for a sheet music distributor in NY. We had all of the Sam Ash stores and every other music and record store in the Northeast. I would visit stores and stock them from a step van. Everything from sheet music to method books and popular folios. I came across a lot of interesting people. All of the record stores are gone. I wonder how many of the small indie music stores still remain. A different time indeed 😎!!
Really enjoyed the insights and discussion, especially the "pet peeves" part. I have to confess: "My name is Chuck and I have named some guitars." But in all fairness, that was a thing for a long time and I haven't named all of them and the only alternative when I first started was Pete Townsend and those butt-ugly numbers "1" and "2" that he would stick onto his Pauls. Did he think he was going to forget which was which? Finally, I think George and you (Tom) are talking about 2 different "ugliest" guitars. I don't recall the L6-S having any binding anywhere. I think he might have meant the L5-S? The only famous player I remember playing that one was Pat Martino for a while. Love the channel. Peace.
"A chop or an upgrade?" Wire the three like Frampton, then the tonal response is endless, the P90 and a staple is a completely different animal, different growl, then again, when I can play like these guys,,,,,great guitar inside baseball, these fellas are home run hitters. Thanks,
one of my pet peeves is when you look online for a Gibson half of the stuff that comes up is Epiphone, , because Gibson bought Epiphone dosent make them a Gibson, and the hell of it is Epiphone has and does make some nice guitars, I just don't want to sift thru them to find a Gibson.
Huge this thanks to the camera couple... this ex-never-thanked janitor appreciated your hard and excellent work! Oh, and do we get extra class credit for staying in class long enough to see VG sneak by? Ha ha.
48th St. memories. In 1982 at the age of 20, I bought an Ibanez Artist from Alex Music which was a smaller shop just down from Sam Ash. Those shops are seemingly all gone. Bygone era.
Wise man that Gruhn guy! I knew most of those Sam Ash Qns Blvd/48st guys back then, probably the Cory offender too. Are we talking about Gary Kessel of Kessel music Rego park? I got to get back to figuring out Back in Black now lol
I agree with the Unc that sideways vibrato arms and varitones are pretty much Junk. My first Good Guitar was a 63 355 my Dad got me in 1966 when I was 12. I let Gruhns sell my Tom Holmes Lenny Breau model ser. no. 02. They sold it quickly and for a fair price. I was eyeballin a Valley Arts Larry Carlton P-90 Tele and a 50s/60s Player grade Frankenstien Fender Tele that Ed King ended up buying. I remember seeing John Hartford trying out vintage Banjos. Great Store !!! Great Hang Tom !!!
Ok I was very glad to hear George bring up the Gibson RD. I agree, “RD stands for ridiculous” 😂Looks like a 4 year old’s drawing of a Les Paul and Moderne looks like a 4 year old’s drawing of a Flying V
I'd be willing to bet money that the "quiver" thing @22:30 comes from a, now defunct, forum called silverfish longboarding. Skaters would amass different decks for different kinds of rides. That's where I was introduced to the phrase as a sort of replacement for "bag of tricks".
Put this woman on the payroll! The camera work is a blanket solution to pretty much everything someone could complain about with the audio. She's smooth, attentive and has a great eye for space and framing. Five stars.
Agreed
She is our eyes 👀 and ears 👂 and I wanna thank her for her service 🫡
Camera work is awesome on this one! Arms of steel, that woman!
Somebody name a guitar after her😂!
Intro was like the intro to the sitcom Roseanne*... only without the poker playing and theme song

That was a great start against the Giants.......

My god George uplifts a conversation. ❤️
I got soo many laughs out of this conversation; totally made my day.
Thanks guys. 💪🎸
I love the Gruhn's videos. This one is extra cool cause of Vince Gill checking in on the boy's in the back room.
OK, I do agree the 3 pup Black LP Custom is maybe one of the coolest guitars ever made. I’ve wanted one since I bought Frampton Comes Alive in junior high, from the Woolworths in my home town mall!

Best looking electric, I’ve gotta say Les Paul, but the Tele is right behind it. Also agree the Rick Bass is amazing.
Great camera work 👏👏enjoyable conversation
I just love these Gruhns “hang” sessions talking shop. Great to wake up to and have a coffee and just listen. Thanks guys
Gary is legend. We are lucky to have him. Also a mentor to myself and our crew at the shop. His band, The Melting 5 were everything great about NYC rock n roll. Love what you guys are doing - keep it up!

This was easily one for the books, climaxing with George’s star turn at the end. Perfection! Thanks Uncle Larry.
Its a good day when we get to see and hear George for a bit. I think we're all here because we love guitars, and our Uncle Larry, so George is like out Pope! Gretsch White Falcon to me is the most beautiful guitar I've seen...with the gold bling....I do love the 335 shape the most of any body shape.
I watched this on ..like my 6th beer.. lol felt like I was partying with uncle Larry
:)
Good times!
Thx Tom

Gary Blankenburg. He’s at the Music Zoo now. Legend.
These conversations make me happy! I could watch these all day long!
George is spot on!! Guitar allows you to travel safely on the cerebral autobahn
“New for 1960…. Our shitty neck”.
I dang near blew an o-ring. I love these talks. Good job all.
Tom Bukovac is THE MAN. period. Bringing this incredible stuff to my living room is just priceless. Tom, your personality, your laugh and your love for guitars and music, your hunger for life is I gift for me, a big one . Thanks a million man. Much love from West Spain!
Wonderful watch folks, Great seeing the living legend at the end too. What a fantastic place that exists within our guitar world.
Simply put, this was ‘effing awesome! Great camera work !! George was the icing on the cake.

Every box was left unchecked with that model. Tom you ask great questions too. Great hang out. It felt like I was at the table with you guys.
Camera lady did an awesome job! Great zooming in and out. Not always showing the person talking. That was some great work. Is she a professional? Loved this! ❤❤❤
Good times video guys. The oil change story was maybe the best part. haha
George Gruhn - Words of Wisdom 🙏🏼
Thanks,
Hoppy beers dont sud up in the, I cant change a tire beard🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
one of my pet peeves is when you look online for a Gibson half of the stuff that comes up is Epiphone, , because Gibson bought Epiphone dosent make them a Gibson, and the hell of it is Epiphone has and does make some nice guitars, I just don't want to sift thru them to find a Gibson.
I'm sure Gibson is not disappointed about that. That's where they make all their money with the Epiphone.
@@stringlocker I should have specified when looking for used gear,
Is "Gary" Gary Blankenburg? If so, love that guy.
What a great episode! Thanks! "Speaking quiet is one of my pet peeves!" HA!
I'm with George on the beauty of a 335.
Huge this thanks to the camera couple... this ex-never-thanked janitor appreciated your hard and excellent work! Oh, and do we get extra class credit for staying in class long enough to see VG sneak by? Ha ha.
Thank you sincerely for the oasis of acceptable insanity. My take on the ugly guitar controversy has to be the Gibson Corvus (shudder).
Peace.
48th St.
I found myself wanting to jump into that conversation several times it was a nice hang yellow 335 was awesome looking with the bigsby .
Great Hang Tom !!!
some people pronounce bakelite " back-e-lite"
Drives me nuts. My brother pronounces denatured alcohol as denna-tured
What a great show. Insight form the best in the business
Ok I was very glad to hear George bring up the Gibson RD. I agree, “RD stands for ridiculous” 😂Looks like a 4 year old’s drawing of a Les Paul and Moderne looks like a 4 year old’s drawing of a Flying V
Love it!!!
1960 ! Let' s make some shitty neck profiles ! 😂 I cried.
That Strat should have come setup and a free Green Day album with the deal.
Excellent, Cheers Tom & Pals 🍺
these videos are great!
I'd be willing to bet money that the "quiver" thing @22:30 comes from a, now defunct, forum called silverfish longboarding. Skaters would amass different decks for different kinds of rides. That's where I was introduced to the phrase as a sort of replacement for "bag of tricks".
Quiver ... means your children. She had a full quiver of offspring lol I agree bad choice of words
I loved every second of this. So fun to watch
This will be a treat!
