  • In today's video I will be teaching you how to get an Anthropologie look for less! These vases are inspired by Anthropologie & West Elm, but cost a fraction of the price! I purchased these vases from local thrift stores and then upcycled them using chalk spray paint!
    This makeover is proof that you don't have to spend loads of money to have beautiful things in your home. You can make them yourself--right at home!

    Do you like the black vases or the white vases better? What color would you have used for your home???

      White spray paint, its love hate relationship. lol Best advice given to me while using white or light color spray paint, flat gray primer. Gives you a nice flat base to start with.

    Making a simple "lazy Susan" turntable would make spraying a whole load easier, just slowly rotate as you spray. Vases look great.

    I loved all the information that you gave for me to be able to do the same thing you did. I also like that you showed exactly what to do step by step. I have been trying to sell Flower arrangements and I started realizing my vases are so "cheesy' this is going to help. L&I lean towards the black I think.

    08:15 It seems to me that the coverage problem with white paint could be ameliorated by using clear or light-coloured vases. They would likely require fewer coats.

    May I ask why “chalk” paint? Have you found it adheres better to glass? Has a non blotchy outcome?
    Im about to paint a 42” circular glass for an illuminated sand table. Ive always used foam board as a diffuser but I thought this time painting the glass would be a great way. Im still researching tho.
    Thanks

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly

    Great video! Question about the cleaning process. What is special about the cleaning product you used? I noticed it leaves a nice shine. Will regular dish soap do the trick or do I need to invest in the cleaning product you mentioned here? Thanks!

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 роки тому

      Thanks!
      Good question. The cleaner I used has TSP in it - otherwise known as trisodium phosphate. TSP is a powerful cleaner and degreaser. I use it to clean furniture or anything else I'm going to be painting, because I want to be sure that there is zero contamination on the surface before I paint. You can use dish soap, but it's not as strong and may not remove everything on the surface.

    Bravo! You did a good job! I have a few questions. Do you rinse your cloth between washings? Why not rinse quickly under running water or is this a conservation tactic? If not under running water, do you rinse the cloth repeatedly? And should we use a mask and eye protection when using spray paints and sealers? (Commentors: please don't make this political.)

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, I do squeeze out my rag periodically, I always cut that out of the video because it's boring to watch me do it a hundred times.
      I would recommend using PPE, especially when working indoors.

    • @ChicAntiquebyHolly
      @ChicAntiquebyHolly  Рік тому

      nothing was destroyed in this video but i appreciate your concern! repurposing items that don't have a home gives them life & purpose again. they belong in someone's home and deserve to be loved. if a little bit of paint will keep something out of the trash, i think that's all that matters.
