You can be a wall that is a rock ice type. Simply have an ability that restores hp to full upon switch and legendary stats, and a decent healing move. Then make the lore such that that Rock/Ice wall is a pretender god with one trick that makes it seem like it is godly, and that is massive secret healing and that it stole power from an actually defensive legendary Pokemon.
The well-known weaknesses of Rock/Ice type prevent it from actually being that good, akin to Hero Zamazenta.

Sturdy defensive Pokémon that are difficult to eliminate are nicknamed walls by the competitive singles community.
These are pokemon with high defensive stats, reliable forms of healing, and usually utility or status moves that help out your team. They’re like a wall, blocking the enemies attackers from getting through.

Wallbreakers are very fun. You click one button and a Pokémon explodes or takes a ton of damage. It doesn't get simpler than that folks.

You have to get them in safely and sometimes that's a whole game in and of itself
Look at Choice Band Crawdaunt. It's frail, it's slow, and it takes hazards. Incredible when it can click though

Crawdaunt is such an epic mon bro. The risk/reward of having to position it correctly but getting a free KO (or at least guaranteed significant progress) pretty much every time you do is so fun, satisfying, and yet balanced. I knew he was the one when banded Knock did 70% to Melmetal back in Gen 8. We love Mr. Craw 📞📞📞
Crawdaunt is a good, honest mon. It obliterates stall, supports its team with Knock Off (when it doesn't just KO something), has a STAB priority move, but it's still balanced by being easily revenge killed. Hall-of-fame wallbreaker right there

Hoopa Unbound is my favorite wallbreaker oat. Honorable mention - mamoswine, conkelldur and kyurem (all forms)

Hoopa seems to be a wallbreaker despite its typing. On paper, its stats make it look like it should be permabanned from OU so that makes up for it having relatively weak moves and decent but not amazing typing (not bad offensively but only has its psychic immunity going for it defensively).
Mamoswine is a wallbreaker because of its typing. Ice/Ground STAB is one of the hardest combos to switch into. Mamos stats are pretty fair tho. If it were much faster, it would easily find itself in OU more often than not.

Iron Mugulis is my least favourite wall-breaker, being able to use his Quark-Drive boosted Sp. Atk STAB Thunder to break through staples like Skarmory; a wall-breaker having a broken heal move, in his signature move Half-Full, is too broken GameFreak!

Mega-Mawile will always be my favourite wall breaker fairy/steel typing with effectively the highest attack stat in the game was wild honestly.
fun fact: Mega Gardevoir is actually a good wallbreaker in gen 6 as well. It can punish Chansey with Psyshock, and has a very strong one with 165 special attack. It can punish Latios with Hyper Voice, and it can use Will'o'Wisp to get in chip damage on pokemon while punishing physical attackers like Bisharp. It also can punish steel types with Focus Blast or even HP Fire or Ground, as well as Taunt stall pokemon out of using their recovery or status moves.
There was a reason why aegaslash was so popular in gen 6 OU it turned fairies like Mega Garde into fodder
I like to run Attract, Thunder wave, Encore and Disable with just enough speed investments to outspeed common mons. Rest goes into bulk. I may not win but I will definitely make someones day worse. Lol

What's funny about Gen 6 is that, despite the power of Mega's and wall breakers, the defensive values are almost as high up there. The omnipresence of Scald and Knock-Off combined with threats like Ferrothorn make sweeping really hard to do.
The unexpected Balatro music out of left field combined with how quiet it was really fucked with me I won't lie
Dragalge is such a flavorfully done wallbreaker. Adaptability on it makes lots of sense. It started as a ambush based water/poison type disguising itself as rotten kelp. By becoming dragon/poison (a worse typing compared to its pre evolution), it keeps its water resist, more than doubles its damage output against the surrounding water types, & no longer needs to rely strictly on that to feed.
252+ SpA Dragalge Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Deoxys-Defense: 67-81 (22 - 26.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery. 252+ SpA Adaptability Dragalge Dragon Pulse vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Deoxys-Defense: 86-102 (28.2 - 33.5%) -- 88.2% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery. Dragalge would need 146 base special attack without adaptability to deal this much damage. That's an insane boost of damage.
Anyway, pokemon is LOADED with wallbreakers. Kommo-0, Dragonite, Flapple, Goodra, Hydreigon, Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt, Azumarill, Gallade (Gen 9 gave it Sharpness lol), Flutter Mane, Chandelure, Aegislash, Basculegion, Ceruledge, Armorouge, Palafin, Clawitzer, Gyarados, Araquanid, Nidoking, Excadrill, Lando-T, Torterra (Gen 9 buffs were legit huge), Diggersby, all forms of Volcarona, Minior, Hisui Arcanine, Kleavor, Hisui Sam etc. It's such a fun archtype to play.
Moltres can be something of a wallbreaker in gen 2, sunny day+fire blast+charcoal, one of the few special attackers that can threaten lax.

Terrains were actually introduced in Gen 6, the abilities were just introduced in Gen 7
Did anyone ever use Terrains in Gen 6 or were they just there because they were not immediately set?

Dracovish makes every other wallbreaker seem like a joke, just imagine if Water Absorb didn't exist.
Fishous Rend and Bolt Beak where designed by a 5 year old, I have no idea how these moves got passed R&D when making gen 8.
They were designed by people who only think about in game and VGC

In singleplayer, the only Trainers you'll probably have them for is like Leon, and in VGC, it both only kills one mon and Dracovish isn't necessarily fast enough, and Dynamax can give Speed to move first, Sun to weaken the hit and take weather, etcetera.
the moves were supposed to be balanved by being on slow mons that need to use their abilities to go fast but they didn't make dracovish slow enough, arctozolt isn't too good iirc
@@GravityIsFalling They really should make the mainline games primarily doubles focused, it doesn't make sense for the competitive scene and the single player experience to be so drastically different from each other, it's a completely missed opportunity and an easy way to introduce new players to the competitive scene in a way that if they ever decided to try competitive out in any capacity, they'd be better equipped to understand what is even going on and have a better mind for strategy from the get go, rather than having to learn the entire game essentially all over again.
Nidoking is the coolest wallbreaker imo because he uses his lower attacking stat which isn't very common

Tauros is defined by its fragility, its needed for so many endgames (barring some pocket zam team)
You just described general offensive mons rather than something approaching a tool to break walls. Especially including something like persian feels bizzare when it struggles to do anything against most things with recovery when they are at full health. Its very much a cleaner.
There are those tools though. Physlax is a great example. Exeggutor is a great example, being able to end some defensive key point with sleep or explosion to open up the rest of the team.
Yeah I was surprised by that, also by the general lack of early gen boom. Nothing says wallbreaking like banded metagross ohkoing skarm with resisted boom.

Just wanna shout out gen 9 Sharpness Gallade. Gallade is my favorite mon of all time. The feeling of shredding opponents with Choice Band Sharpness Boosted Sacred Sword and dealing 60-70% to high phys-def mon while they switch in makes me tingle with joy.

I'm mostly used to VGC doubles so it's cool to see archetypes from the singles perspective.
Good vid as always! I just feel that in the earlier Gens, especially 1 + 2, that Explosion and Self Destruct should have been at least touched on in halving defense and ending the turn, meaning the opposing Pokémon can’t even predict something like a Recover or a Rest to make up for that damage a bit. Definitely one of my favorite wallbreaking uses alongside Adapability mons like Crawdaunt lol
When I was a little kid, my babysitter had a stuffed Lugia doll that I kept trying to steal from her, so my mom took me out and got me a Corphish plush. I still have it 17 years later.
Corphish is my favorite Pokemon ever, so it made me happy you mentioned Crawdaunt.

Kartana is my personal favorite wall breaker for two generations and actually was what helped shape my team to the way it is today but with Flutter Mane as its spiritual successor

It's worth mentioning about Tauros' Hyper Beam in Gen1 that Speed counts for crit chance, courtesy of his high speed Tauros had a 21% approx. chance of critting Hyper Beam.

Breloom's my favorite but it's my favorite in general for having a lot of gimmicky sets. But what really gets me going is running counter on Blissey, because in the right circumstances it instantly deletes a powerful physical threat, making Blissey's presence even scarier, and from experience can cause psychological damage you'll never recover from. It's a wallbreaker breaker.
Back in gen V, my absolute favourite wallbreaker was the goofiest Kyurem-B set, subroot/hone claws/dragon tail. You would just set up on anything that didn't break your sub, and infinitely phaze things with the game's strongest dragon tail.
You mentioned jolteon in rby but its even more so of a wallbreaker in stadium 1 due to focus energy working and giving it like, 75ish% to crit, and in a gen with 2x damage crits and amnesia boosters, its quite useful

He might be PU now (which seems like a stretch tbh) but I love using Staraptor in Gen 9 lower tiers. Reckless Tera Flying Brave Bird just feels like a "Delete Enemy" button in the late game

Where are both Darmanitan? Fire Darmanitan was a menace on sun teams during gen 5, the only thing that barely stopped it was Slowbro with rocky helmet and you still had to suicide it or a member of your team to send Slowbro again (regenerator) so he killed himself with flare blitz recoil + rocky helmet.
Flare blitz, U turn, earthquake (for Heatran) basically the other move was pointless.
This thing only spammed Flare blitz until it killed himself by the recoil. Fun ol times!
Specs Chi Yu was an insane wallbreaker before it got rightfully banned
Lol I remember running Choice Banded Metagross in Gen 3 and when I lead with it my opponent took like 5 minutes deciding what to sack to a possible CB Explosion.
I am curious what would happen if Mamoswine was in Generation 3 OverUsed. This is now, in fact, information so vital to my life that I cannot live without it. Someone, be it friend or foe, please inform me what would happen to the meta if Mamoswine was in Gen 3 OU.
I know this is more singles focused, but the fact that in 7th Gen VGC, Kartana was able to survive things it shouldn't was amazing, and still hit like a truck despite no atk investment. Just HP, SDef and some Speed and AV and you got a survival machine, add some Rain and Intimidates and you got everything.

Crawdaunt is my favorite too, I have a sort of ptsd from Sableye on the battlespot when prankster still worked on dark types (Sad face)
Dracovish is my favorite. Nothing like a massive beatstick that deletes anything not immune. Honorable mention to tapu lele for similar feats.

God I love Persian. I hated playing into reflect lax when I first started playing gen 1 ou, and it's such a nice check for a very funny pokemon.

When I think of wallbreaker I think of Mega Heracross. It’s slow, but it hits disgustingly hard with its 5 hit multi hit moves.
I used a webs team once with Chandelure + Mega Heracross and it was NASTY
