  • In this video I demonstrate a hybrid bind-off...stretchy, but not super stretchy.

The knitting sample I use in the video is from my Learn to Knit Lace pattern and video tutorial:

I have often employed this same tactic! But I am happy to refer to it as Casey's Not-so-stretchy BO for simplicity - and to direct people to this video for demo purposes!

I agree on bind off being an art form 😊 the edge on a scarf, shawl, or whatever you create plays an important part in the look of the finished project. I liked this idea so thanks for sharing. I always go to your stretchy bind off video when I finish my shawls…I love the wrap you have displayed beside you; the color combination is beautiful.

How cool! Many moons ago when I was Youngster, I wanted to crochet something "different" than anything I had done before, so I created (or so I thought) a new stitch. It was the stitch used to make the Granny Square. I love learning new things.

I Finished Two Sweaters In One Day Yesterday, And I Actually Used The JSSBO But I Didn't Want My Edges Flared Out & Weird Looking... So I Went Down A Needle Size On Both. It Works Well & I Do NOT Like That Flared Look Because Eventually It Will Stretch Out Beyond The Ribbed Or Flat Hem. I May Give This A Try On My Cargill Sweater From Creabea.

I love it! I just tried it out on my finglerless gloves and it's so pretty. It's prettier than my standard stretchy bind off and it's even prettier than binding off in pattern!

Love this because it's my usual bind-off😀! Sometimes I adjust - 2 stretchy, 1 not across the cast off; 3 not, 1 stretchy. For me, this works well on bottom-edge ribbings - sweaters and sleeves - where I want stretch but also some structure to hold the shape of the garment. Totally recommend for those who have a looser tension in their knitting.

I use a combination of stretching and standard binding off stitches to have elastic and not flaring stitches on sock cuffs for toe-up socks or bottoms of bottom down tubes.

This looks like a great method to test! Do you ever combine it with binding off in pattern in case there are purls to be bound off in the last row worked?

Hi! Your tips and tutorials are SO helpful. How do you fix a hole in the knit that is about 6 rows behind. It's probably a dropped stitch that wasn't cought and now can't be fied with the crochet hook. THANK YOU!

How do you tink back on a bind off? I’m always terrified that I am going to drop a stitch on my bind off and I have no idea how to fix that if I do!

Is there a version of this for ribbing? Because somehow my ribbed bind offs are too loose now, and on my sweater hems I'd like there to be some stretch but not as much as with Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off. Adjusting needle sizes sometimes gives me the look I want but it's not consistent 🥴

You can use this BO, they way I demonstrate it in knitting, or you can switch to knit + purl stitches in the BO if you like.
