Hope you don't mind comments to videos you uploaded a year back... :) Really like how you explain things... good job! The only thing I kind of do differently is that I sprout the seeds in perlite in a zip lock snack bag. I put about a 1/4 cup of the perlite in the bag, place the seeds on the surface, and then mist using a spritzer bottle distilled water with a touch of hydrogen peroxide in it. Hang the baggies on metal rod/shelving in dark pantry and wait.... Thought I would share this with you. Last year I germinated and put into styrofoam cups 180 seedlings beginning in mid July 2023. Grew them indoors under LED 4500K lights until first of October (approx 90 days) at which time I began putting them outdoors into beds. That took me a while, but after about 60 days, I had them all replanted to outdoor beds. What I am especially happy about is that thus far 31 of them have bloomed. I figure that some of them blooming in the first year is my reward for taking care of them through the hot Texas Zone 9a summer last year. They did well in the A/C getting fed Miracle Grow :) Appreciate your channel and the work you put into it....

Hi Shelly, This will be my first time growing from seed indoor. Im having trouble finding the deep seed cell trays you show in your video, can you share a link please? maybe a link where to find the bottom water tray as well. ty love your videos!!
I ordered my trays from the Greenhouse Megastore! They have “Sure Root Deep Cell trays” and the heavy duty trays for bottom watering. The heavy duty ones last much longer than the thinner flimsier one. I recommend the heavy or mega duty trays. 🙂
This was helpful. Thank you. How long can I leave them in the seed starting mix? I know there aren’t nutrients in it, and I want to make sure the lilies grow. Also, I’m way behind where you are. I just put my seeds in the pouch with the wet paper towel a couple days ago, so they haven’t sprouted yet. Thanks again.
Hey MK! So you can leave them in the seed starting mix until the roots outgrow the pots, you just have to feed them after 3-4 weeks of growth when the seed isn’t providing the nutrition anymore 😊. I’m so excited that you’re starting them!
It really depends if you have grow lights to care for them indoors or not. You can start them now if you want to, and have the setup to do it. If you’re planning to wait until spring, winter sowing is best… You can keep them refrigerated and start them a month before your last frost date but they will sprout the same time as winter sowing without all the work. 😊
@@GuidingGreenThumbs If I keep them refrigerated and "start" them a month before the last frost date, does "starting" them mean putting the germinated seeds in the pots? Or does that mean wetting the seeds in paper towels so they germinate? Seems like that germination process takes a week at least and I can't tell if that is part of your "month before last frost date" time period? Hope that question made sense. Also, how long will it take before the pre-germinated seed you planted sprouts in the seed starting mix? Lastly, what temperature should the pots be kept at? Room temp? Or should I use a heat mat?

I have some sprouted daylily seeds and am going to be potting them according to your instructions, but I don't have a grow light and can't invest in one right now. Can I just place the planted seeds in a sunny place? I wonder how people grew from seeds before electricity!
Hi Eliza, Your best bet without a grow light is to plant them directly into the ground. You can pot them up until they get a little bigger but you should let them over winter in the ground. The only reason to use grow light is if you’re trying to get blooms quicker by starting the seeds in the winter. You can absolutely sprout them and get them in the ground and naturally let them grow like they would normally do in nature. Great question!

I probably missed it, but how many weeks before last frost should we start?
