Your G.S. apple tree's branches are open for light but too vertical. Notice how your better producing apple trees have more horizontal branches? Tie your branches to stakes to pull them into a more horizontal habit. Use small pieces of cut garden hose to protect the branches from twine, rope or string.

I only have my blueberry bush for a few years and it seem to propagate itself. It is located a few feet from a tall tree so it receive afternoon shade during the heat of summer.
Based on research, blueberry prefer acidic soil, and if you want to fertilize it, go with a fertilizer made specially for bush plants. The one I have are made for bush berries and rose bushes. I fertilize twice a year, once before it start sprouting new leaves (spring), and once more during autumn (before first frost).

@@yenquestI work on one of the largest blueberry farms in Florida. Plant your blueberries directly in a bed of pine bark. It won't hold moisture amazingly, but they bushes LOVE it! We use slow release fertilizers, and also a routine of liquids....10-5-5 until berries start, then 3-18-18 for harvest

You are so modest because I’ve seen lots of your videos and I haven’t seen much of what you showed today. What worked to get rid of aphids --- left them alone on the roses, but planted a hops vine nearby. Encourages ladybugs because they extend the season for aphids. First year, the hops were covered with tons of aphids. A year later, no spraying, no removing aphids, the roses and hops had a ton of ladybugs on them, and the aphids were all eaten up.

I have a lot of herbs growing in my garden, spearmint, peppermint, catnip, garlic chives, garlic, marjoram, cilantro, dill rosemary, basil, chicory, yarrow, oregano, comfrey, parsley, and lemon thyme. I first watched your videos I think way back in 2010 - you were growing I think 'passionfruit' at the back section of your home and other things I can't remember. You have come along way with your layout of placing of your tree's, herbs, and vegetables and you have the space to do so - thank you so much for sharing it made my day - well it's night here in New Zealand (Tuesday 21/05/24) and it's our Autumn going into winter in opposition to your growing season and it's raking up the leaves time and turning the soil to get ready for spring planting September LOL!!!

You should break asparagus off at the root not inches above the soil. Breaking them off at the roots causes them to send up more shoots.

I may need Chicago Hardy for Louisiana. My Brown Turkey & Celeste can no longer handle the extreme freezes we keep getting. So this year I decided to try a dwarf mulberry type hardy to zone 5/6ish so I can hopefully have at least something I can count on besides blackberries.

What an amazing garden you have. I had to start over on new property 5 years ago so I lost the nice soil I had and now have been working with sand it’s coming along pretty good. But I was surprised that the blueberries took off really well. Working on asparagus and rhubarb and all my herbs took off great. I cannot grow parsnips , beets etc and every time I plant grapes they die at least 5 times nowThanks for sharing your garden

Love your garden and your videos... this must be a full-time job keeping up with all of your plants and then processing all the fruits, herbs, and veggies. ... We planted hardy kiwi here in NY region 6 but lost the male. The female sets fruit every year but nothing develops but she grows like bamboo and has taken over the railing on the one side of our deck and had been growing up a hemlock tree until it fell over in a storm. It has to be heavily pruned at least every 2 weeks.

Your tour aptly shows a labour of your loving hands to the land Gary Pilarchik.
Here, started with Ground cover Thyme,(20 years ago), the purple blanket of flowers is covered with all varieties of bees & so lovely, took years, but on sandy soil, occasionally throwing compost. Intermixed along the edges with forget me not, mint, daisy, orange hawkweed, ferns, heal-all, plus. Still have some grass but that's it's hardness, dandelion grows there too. I've let oregano escape. That's the ground cover.
    Thank you for sharing.

Everything looks beautiful and amazing. Thank you for all that you do in gardening. I haven’t been able to for a long time. I’d like to get back to it but I’m getting old and I do make soup every day so I don’t bake, but I would like to grow great vegetables for gardeningand eating and making soup

Hi Gary, i planted red mustard greens last September they didn't do much but this spring they have grown immensely I've been eating them all spring also collards and kale that overwintered. Planted my lavender lnground last season and they are beautiful covered them throughout the winter with window well covers tip from you of course. I have all the herbs you mentioned plus 2 grape vines, 2 blueberries in pots, strawberries in containers, garlic and onions around the perimeter of my garden. Transplanting my tomatoes and peppers as we speak. The pablano i bought from you last year did great planting them again along with the big red and bell and chocolate peppers also the scarlet beanstalk trying to stuff a lot more in my small garden in New Jersey zone 7 😅watching your videos has turned me into productive backyard gardener. Don't have space for trees as my driveway is paved and super long, but I'll be trying to grow a fig tree this year. Thanks Gary❤

Hey, I lived in Lexington Park, Maryland for 20 years. I started a couple of fig trees while I was there and they didn't take through the winter like you said. They got about 4 to 5 ft tall and then died off. What I winded up doing was starting it in a pot, a large pot and let them grow to be about 5 ft tall. Taking them in during the winter and then I went out. Dug a 3-ft deep by 3 ft wide hole. I layered it white hay compost about 3 or 4 in each until I got to the very top. I planted the fig tree in that the first year I covered it with plastic. All I did was buy two large sheets of painters plastic and I put both of them over it to kind of create a create a double barrier and it grew to about 25 ft tall and it would survive the winners like you said. All the leaves everything like that would completely fall off but it was thick enough that it was able to survive the winter. So just an idea for you

Very nice garden. I would recommend to grow haskap/honey berry. You need at least 2 compatible varieties to bear fruits. They are very cold hardy and bear fruits very early before strawberries. Haskaps are higher in antioxidants than the blueberries.

I hope that you know more than what Gary is telling you about your fruit trees you send your fruit after it comes out you should have one fruit hanging from the bottom that one fruit should be about 5 to 6 inches apart any fruit that's on the top or near branches coming out you pluck off you also at the coldest part of the winter generally in Maryland it's February and March and you need to go on UA-cam and look for trimming apple trees or whatever fruit tree you're trimming they have a specific way to trim each type of fruit tree otherwise Jerry's got a beautiful place but he leaves out a lot of information
