Turn on air assist in lightburn. My wife also got a small quiet compressor that plugs into the back. It makes a BIG difference with smoke staining on your parts with less after work cleanup.
My shop is out behind my house, with just a grass and mud path there. Similar to yours. But I have to move the stuff solo. To get my tools out there, I use a pallet jack and a few sheets of OSB. I put the OSB on the ground and then roll the jack over it until I clear a sheet. I then move the last sheet to go in front, etc. I was able to move a 1200lb shaper pallet last month doing this. Several years back, I did the same to move a 1300lb saw and an 800lb jointer/planer. Sharing only for others who may have a similar situation, and not so many folks ready to help :)
This was such a great video and is going to help a ton of people. Thanks for taking the time to record the unboxing. I look forward to the next one! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Long time Follower / Woodworker, Loved this video, I purchased the Mira 9 Tuesday and will arrive December. I want to be very familiar with it before it arrives.
@@MyersWoodshop I’m new to this, but can I ask, wouldn’t it be even faster if instead of engraving one letter at a time as you did first, you engraved the entire line of letters together, so you reduce the number of times the laser goes back and forth?
That laser head zipping back and forth is fun to watch. For those that don’t know, Boss Laser has a nice laser settings page with settings for 65W, 100W and 150W.
Phenomenal video! We’re getting ready to pull the proverbial trigger on an Aeon laser. They’re showing a work area of 23 5/8" x 35.5". Is that the actual cutting ability, or just the honeycomb area? Thanks!
Really nice machine! Congrats. One thing I think you should investigate though. You noted a 100w machine in your video's text description and in the video where you were examining the tube itself. I see on the manufacturer's website you were able to order a 75, 90 or 100w. When you showed the Reci certification/testing label, you noted the peak power at 102, but under that the label notes that the agreed power is 90w. Agreed power is the standard reference for power claim on a tube. I will be disappointed if Aeon is using the sketchy ebay seller technique of using peak power numbers to sell their Mira lasers. If you paid for a 100w machine, you should get a refund for the difference between the 90w and 100w option.
Nice laser. You mentioned you keep forgetting to set the air assist option to on with this new laser. Did you know that you can setup a file with the setting you normally use, but have no shapes or cut objects loaded. When you save the lightburn file it saves all the layer settings. You could make a folder for different default settings and create a file for each type of basic cut/engrave you normally use. Like Mira 9 cutting or mira 9 rotary etching mugs. Then make it a routine to open lightburn for these case uses with this saved file and your layer settings you use are loaded already. If your production stuff is really basic (one layer) you could save one settings file. In the file only use layer one for cutting. Layers 2-4 could be for different default engraving settings. It could save setup time and save material as well. I'm excited for you and enjoy the videos.
Really sweet laser, all the bells and whistles anyone could want. Using my 50 watt laser over the last 4 years (mostly hobby - not production), do I think it's worth the extra $10,000 of features? I'd love to have more speed, power and larger bed......but the cost.
I have a chinese 9060 laser with the same Reci W2 tube, and they advertise it as an 80W laser. The tube itself says 90W, and the peak power is also 102.3W like this one.
Cool video. 1 Quest. What are the options that you didn't get with the Mira 9, rather than the rotary unit... and why you got more than 1 rotary equipment ? Thank you in advance. Greetings from Dubai
Absolutely. The customer service is second to none. Needed something replaced, got it next day with a facetime call showing me how to replace. Worth it for the piece of mind for a large investment! Mention me if you contact aeon! or use my link!
Great video, could you give the reference for the rotary device shown at minute 7:15, the black one with the scissors mechanism? That one is not offered on the Aeon website, jus the chuck and the roller. Regards!
Hmm Black and Yellow with chiller for $2500 or the Mira 9 for $14,000. It's a nice machine, large bed with compact cabinet, but for a hobbyist, that is a LOT of money! I have the Black and Yellow and once I got it tuned, has been great. I took that massive noise maker and shoved it under a bench and put Cloudline S6 in it's place, 68DB with everything going. Will add a Z axis and a 100 Watt tube and power supply to it soon. Big difference, when you spend $14K for a laser, it is ready to use out of the crate where the Black and Yellow takes hours if not days to tweak and get working right, AND you buy a 100Watt tube, you GET a 100W tube, not a 50 Watt tube claiming to be a 60 Watt! Check your tube though, if 102 is peak, its a 90Watt tube, which you can verify by length and width of the tube. If it is a 90 watt, drop your peak percentage so it lasts longer. Also looks like the wireless is for their wireless controller.
Hi, new Mira 9 100w owner here. Loved your video. Now that you had some time with your machine would you have a cut/engrave settings list that you will share?
Have you done any further testing with engraving speeds and power? I'm thinking this should be an upgrade from my current machines but need to know how dark and fine of an engrave these can do at higher speeds. So far I've been unable to find anyone with a video test of this. Currently I'm running 6 OMtech machines but they only engrave the quality I need at 250mm/s. Above that speed they get uneven edges .
the air assist is a super easy thing to not have to remember since you will just have it checked on or off when you make the materials settings part of material library in lightburn. I have cut settings saved seperate vs engrave so engraves simply have it off, cuts have it on. No thought needed on if needed to check it or not.
Not sure why the $12k price? Reci laser tube is good, but just as good as a good $4k Chinese laser with a Reci tube. So, looks to me like you spent $4k on a laser and $8k on a brand name???
Do you see how fast it is? Do you see the beam combiner/red dot at the spot the laser is? Do you see the quality? Chinese laser, most of them are not even legal to import, not wired to code, BIG fine if you get caught.
It’s is still a Chinese laser with a higher price tag. No way is it worth that much more money unless it is given to you. I will stick with my red and black China eBay laser that cost a 1/3 the price and gives the same performance easy to get with a few minor upgrades, but still came stock with the exact same component controlling it as that $14000 plus machine you have there. Nice looking housing though. If and when your chiller/water cooler and air pump goes out your stuck buying a replacement from them.

I just ordered this machine today - delivery in November. Moving up from a FSL muse to this big girl!
Nice! Your gonna love it!

For the 1/2" ... set your focus to be in focus at half way thru.
Any idea how to remove the power supply. I can't access the top 2 screws. Really strange design
Watching the smoke passing the laserbeam at some parts of the cut. Thats probably why it didnt go through all the way around.

How were you able to turn off air assist?
In Lightburn
@@MyersWoodshop Right, there’s the setting in Lightburn. My Mira seems to ignore that. I believe the solenoid is hooked up differently.
Great video! I’m expecting my machine in 2 weeks and I’m building my own stand.. any idea of how far apart the feet are?
Hi! I just discovered your channel. How did you make your logo/name to put on your laser?
Thank you!
Is it a replacement or 2nd laser? Does the Aeon use servos or step motors? Thanks
The website states Digital Stepper motors.
What I don't like in wood cutting, are the burn marks. Don't you get always dirty hands touching them?
I think that the embedded air assist is not powerful

Jeez. Wish I had the money and the room for something like this. So fast and powerful compared to my little JTech. Haha.
If you’re about to move in 10 days, why did you even bother shipping to your old address and now have to set it up twice? 🤔
