  • Aeon Laser US provided this laser for free for review.
I've been using my OMTech Orion Motors 60w black and yellow laser cutter for almost a year now and it's be a great purchase. But after having for a year, I've learned that there's some features and abilities I've been missing.
I recently got the Aeon Laser US 90w Mira 9 and have been incredibly happy. However, it's MUCH more expensive.
Is the Aeon a worthy upgrade at 3x the price? I'll walk you through the differences of both, what's better or worse, and what the Aeon can do that the OMTech cannot.
    The results might surprise you!

I'm in the mist of selecting 1x 9060 model and 10x 1390 with 4 laser head synchronous cut and engraving in very near term.
I wish you could compare the yellow unit of equal cutting size and with auto alignment and pwr z-table adjust. Their advertise speed is also much higher than 500.
However, I hope to find one with much higher speed without the vibration on the rail...as that will determine the quality, quantity and time

This would be a fair comparison if:
" A. You guys actually dishout $12000 plus taxes plus shipping for the MIRA9 from your wallets "
    Or,
" B. the comparison was done with MIRA7 at paid from pocket $7000 plus taxes plus shipping "
I appreciate the time and effort you expensed in this video and I learned a lot from it. You could've just made a detailed video about MIRA9 and ask your audiences to go and watch your other videos about the other machines. This one sounds a bit like a paid promotional advert spot for MIRA9.

Very hard to fix on the 130W body. You can't unbend most of the thick steel frames for accuracy. A lot of the frames are misaligned in bad manufacturing process. Fake 130W tube (60-80W true power), Fake warranty, Fake Support, cheapest knockoff parts, the hatch looks great only from the photos, they come with manufacturing defects and misalignments attached to useless sensors. My firm is into rubber stamps making, we have the MIRA9 with the 50W Iradion RF Tube installed, it is much more expensive than $11K, but it's output speed and quality is very comparable to our $60,000++ Trotec Speedy 300 machine. The Mira saved cost with flimsier construction and skipped some fancy features found on the Trotec unit, but it has performed very satisfactorily so far.

Its good if you don't have a lot of money initially and don't want to do financing, but thing is, you will be producing far less overall, so if you're going to do production or selling stuff online, that will seriously limit you and ultimately the saving you had at the beginning caps your potential sales. But if you're just doing occasional jobs, its fine.

No offense, but this entire video is a sales pitch for Aeon. Clearly a better laser without a doubt...but its tough when you talk about noise issues from the OMTECH but the AEON is loud as heck when you run it. Manual crank is slower on the OMTECH but when you're batching out the same thing, its not a huge issue. Manual can be a bonus too, easier to repair. Sure the OMTECH is slower, but for the price you could quite literally run 3/4 of them at the same time allowing you not only to do mostly the same work at the same speed but also run different jobs simultaneously. I think the hobbyist nature of OMTECH is an advantage. Its easier to replace parts, fix things, upgrade as time goes on. Appreciate the work put into this video but it was not a great comparison.

OMTech's new versions are full of gimmicks. Their viewing window really sucks. Frames are misaligned. Their doors don't shut properly causing errors with crappy sensors on them. They use cheapest air assist, which is not a proper assist at all. Fans are a real joke too. They get tons of negative feedbacks removed on eBay past many years. You won't see many or no positive feedback probably because most of them were all negative and eBay keeps deleting the negative ones for them.

First off, let me say that I'm considering a LASER machine in my future and don't have one ....YET. What do you do for "make-up air"? Since the exhaust fans are extracting the smoke from the machines, where is the air coming from to replace that air being blown outside? It becomes expensive to run HVAC to condition the make up air unless you can supply outside air directly to the machine. That could be a problem for me in Arizona. Another problem I have with the extraction of the smoke is since I live in a community with a HOA, there are rules about producing noxious fumes and odors and I can't see a viable means of getting the fumes away from any busy-bodies that don't like the smell of burning acrylic and plywood. Is there a means of filtering the odors or maybe incinerating the fumes?

You really have to compare a 100w OMTech to compare speed, otherwise it is apples and oranges. Speed is proportional to laser power more than any other factor. A 100w OMTech is still going to cost less than half of what that Aeon costs. This is a good video to demonstrate the difference between 100w and 60w laser cutters though. You would probably get similar results regardless of brand.

I'm in the middle of your (excellent) video... and have to stop to write this: put extra aftermarket led-strips, it is SO cheap and available... and, even some pointed LED reflector (also, clean screen sometimes, you will see much better :-) ), that's why you have those China sockets with weak wires. AND, use pile, or sandpaper, and soften the sharp edges which hurts you frequently. All those mentioned is much cheaper and as easy or hard as thing you already did as aftermarket addons. Instead of dumb usage of accu screwdriver like you do, weld appropriate screw nut at the top and use screwdriver with regular attachment. Separate motor will be further upgrade, but not necessary..... Also, original Chinese vent..... will be quieter if blows less air like one you use now, so, maybe using a knob potentiometer is also good and cheaper idea.

Imagine comparing a 1920 model T to a 2023 F3500. I never would have thought the larger machine that takes up more space would have a larger work area as well. The Omtech has an autofocus version for not much more than the manual focus version, even if you get all the extras you still pay less than half for an even more powerful machine, 100w fully loaded is less than $6k. You literally took the most outdated machine omtech made and compared it to a state-of-the-art piece of technology the competition makes. I would like to see you justify your bias if you did a fair comparison.
