"They were so young back then." I know, funny that. Someone I taught a few years ago said he loved both of them, but didn't know that they started off working together, and worked together on so many programmes.
@@pineapplepenumbra Yes, if I recall, Hugh Laurie was Lord Monty, Stephen Fry was Lord Snot, Ben Elton was Mister Kendal Mintcake, and Emma Thomson was Miss Money-Sterling ("I've got a Porsche").
😂A degree from "The POLY!" "Happy Days!" Thank you for kindly sharing this wonderful Alfresco Series. "A HIDDEN GEM". New first-time viewer. LO💖E IT. I must have missed this. RIP "Danny Boy" Tutti Frutti. The BRILLIANT SIR ROBBIE COLTRANE. Shine bright. 🙏🌠
They'd come on quite a bit from the pilot series the year before - thanks so much for uploading these early examples of their collective and individual genius!
This was a brave attempt to bring together the leading exponents of alternative comedy of the day. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring any funny sketches with them. I still watched it at the time though, because there was nothing else on at the time it was transmitted.
This show was completely screwed by ITV. Instead of becoming as well-known as The Young Ones or NTNON, it was put on at about 11PM Sunday nights where nobody except a few TVTimes readers like me would ever watch it. One saving grace is that after Hugh Laurie became successful in House the show was released on DVD in the States to cash in, so at least a few Americans got to see it.
What the old style comics meant by alternative TO comedy. With Emma Thompson, who spent the 80s making (and being) crap like this before unexpectedly turning into the great actress.
Yes, I agree. Humour is Intermittent. It was traing for Fry and Laurie and Ben Elton. Stephen Fry was head and shoulders above the others. Most scenes suddenly seem far better when Fry appears. LIke he has a sense of how to act and behave and be a character. He is fully present and committed, like he's fully awake. This is also largely true of Emma Thompson. The others often seem indetrminate and uncertain, like they need direction.
Missed this series. RIP Big man Robbie
Great. I must have missed this series. Always good to see Fry and Laurie in action. They were so young back then.
"They were so young back then."
I know, funny that.
Someone I taught a few years ago said he loved both of them, but didn't know that they started off working together, and worked together on so many programmes.
We were all young back then
I adore Emma Thompson more than I did yesterday.
RIP Robbie Coltrane 😢😢😢
thanks for taking the time and effort to upload more of these national british treasures!!
I never thought I'd see Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Robbie Coltrane and Emma Thompson in the same show.
Apart from The Young Ones: Bambi!
@@ketrin-fz8be Was Emma Thomson in that? Was she one of the university contestants?

@@leemendham4788 Ah that's right, the "I've got a Porsche" bit cracked my memory of it. Thanks.

That's why I came here.

that is SO funny. I laughed till I choked.
I love that musical segment.
It was awesome. Reminded me of that Eno/Cale album “Wrong Way Up” but it’s eight years older.
Discovering this show for the first time after hearing that Robbie Coltrane has died
Same here
Love seeing South Manchester in 1983! Saw Chorlton, Didsbury and Withington. Emma Thompson was fit back in the day.
She's pretty fit now, unless I misunderstand what you mean by fit?
What day was that?
Amazing show! Thank you so much for uploading these!!! I love seeing Emma Thompson sketches!
These? I only see the one. Am I missing something? Please say yes.
I must have watched most episodes of this - when it came on I was happy because they always had a go and sometimes struck the humerus .
What a show. I'm dying over here. PM total SL!!
Thank you!
Emma was already very good.
RIP Robbie Coltrane.

Steven Fry and Emma Thompson seem the best and Hugh is up there too.
Damn I really want that coat Fry wears in the soldier sketch.

It’s kinda a weird watching hugh after watching House MD

Anyone knows where to find Tutti Frutti tv series online?
Full series Shown on BBC Scotland a few months ago. Try catchup

Is anyone else floored by the sexual gravitas of Stephen Fry?
I know. And in THAT coat. I want that coat.
Always found him so!
So this is what Hagrid was doing between being expelled and being employed at Hogwarts.
Hagrid and Trelawney with Dr. House.... ooookay...
The "teenagers survival kit" advertised by Jimmy Savelle??????
Well, Doctor House !!!
Great shot of Salford skyline at the start. And some location footage shot on the Bridgewater Canal. How it's all changed
Lots of good things in the 80s.
This wasnt one of them.
Shouldn't that be Elton Ben?
Emma could of worked with French and Saunders
*have.
Why would they want her?
Emma Thompson is pretty
Well that was depressing.
Watched

i don't remember this series....was it ever funny??...doesn't seem so in 2021
Away from fashionable peer pressure to convince yourself to like it, 80s alternative comedy is just bitchy and sick.

Wow... I tried, but this is crap-tacular.
Terrible
I agree
Absolute crap
Was this ACTUALLY meant to be a comedy cuz it REALLY missed the mark!!!!!!!
