I love Ben and Hugh doing their Pete and Dud bit. I would love to have seen a lot more of that, it’s a shame it didn’t run.. I can just imagine them doing it now in their 60’s. that would have been a perfect double act.
Fry rehearsing the role and at least one of the gags that he used in Blackadder 3:6. I do remember the "Yon fellow is merry" sketch, Looking at the show now, It does look as if they had money to burn: location shooting, period costumes etc, happy days. These days they'd much rather film a stand-up performance or do a panel show.
Somehow I was rather indifferent first seeing this years ago...Now watching it again it's cracking me up in places. Very sharp writing by Elton here. I now can enjoy ..Guess after seeing his Man From Auntie series this week this earlier work far exceeds in range beyond his ping-ponging between "leftish" stace and nob gags...Cheers,Vidar Solaas for uploading this and allowing me a fresh revival :)
I can't believe that Stephen Fry didn't write all the euphemisms for gay stuff in the sketch with the 17th century dandies. In the end credits the sole writing credit goes to Ben Elton.
RIP Robbie Coltrane you shan't be forgotten!
who's that?
RIP Robbie. That 'Sherri' skit is spot on! Brilliant pairing of Thompson & Coltrane.👏🤣
That Shakespearian sketch with Fry & Coltrane is definetly one of the best sketches ever done.
I had no idea Emma Thompson could sing like this. Wow.
and in American, too.
She's Emma Thompson, she can do everything
The first sketch is so timely it actually, literally hurts!
Surprisingly still relevant 35 years on.

Didn't know Emma had such a nice voice!

Lombard St. Highsteppers is gonna be my new fantasy football team name.
20:33 Later used by Stephen in Blackadder the Third.
I hate how unintentionally relevant this has become
Loved the lounge singing, whoop! Being looking for this and the gay sketches for ages, the whole episode is brilliant
Bloody hell Emma Thompson, I had no idea she had the funny streak.

Footlights
So who came first with the I'm gay bit? Fry and Laurie or Jim Carrey? Either way F&L did it better.
F&L, by about 20 years :)
