This video gives several different effective tips for utilizing Supta Kurmasana to safely increase flexibility in the your hip joints. The video gives instructions for how to:
1) Skillfully walk your feet towards each other and cross one foot over the other.
2) How to sit up and work with one leg at a time to increase the range of motion in your hip joints.
3) The work you will do sitting up includes how to come forward with the leg either partially or fully behind the head.
*Extra Note:
This pose is famous because it’s the one where you take your legs behind your head-but that is also why it is so darned challenging! Remember to be patient and to use caution in learning to do to this posture. You invite danger if you make the goal of your efforts to put your legs behind your head. Your aim is simply to explore the range of motion of your hips and you can get the same benefit from working on this posture whether you get your legs behind your head or not.

A big bow to the guy in supta kurmasana for staying for so long :) thanks David
Very nice modifications, totally love your attitude, "no pot of gold for getting the legs behind the head"! Great advice.
Thanks a lot David. I am trying trying and trying this pose! Your explanations, grint, determination and wisdom are with me for years. Ciao from italy.
Super! I never tried this Kurmasana advanced variation, though I`m RYT. So, it will be my goal for this year. Great vid! I like most a very practical approach, step by step, and variations at the end where David inspires for true yoga spirit & dynamics: to explore oneself the synergy body-space-breath within a posture. I believe it`s even much more inspiration and improvisation in his private classes! Namaste from Germany
Very nice 🎉

Very helpful both of you
I watched this video in the morning, after around 5 years of yoga practice, I finally got a grip ( this is probably the 5th time I was able to do it with out adjustment).
It helped me a lot!, specially because I was starting to have lower back pain due to the misalignment I was having in this posture, it made me realize how to get it done better.
Thank you! Thank you so much! 😊👌

What is the name of the band and theme song, thanks
do you have any thoughts about the back flexion involved in this pose? It's really hard for me to get really rounded in the back...
most likely, the problem is in your hips. they are not open enough so your back takes on too much pressure. just take it easy, don't force it and work on yor hips. this posture is no joke for the back
Man, leave him alone! Why are you doing thar torture to this poor fella? What is the name of this? Pilates or crossfit
