Lotus is not that important for meditation anyway. It just looks fancy, that's about it.

Extremely insightful pointers, which all my Yoga instructors over 25 years never told me! I consequently hurt my knee joint flexing too much there, as Tim mentioned, rather than exploiting rotation at the hip joint. He has also given some easy and useful starter exercises for the hip rotation, lying on the back.
A guru worth following. Guruve Namaha!🙏🙏🙏

I really loved how this person keep the genuinety of yogasana's like they are in Bharat( India) like their names etc . Most westerners mix and make it something else so their benefits get reduced.
And Asana is just beginning of yoga, the upper levels are beyond imagination, if you are interested in spirituality you will love them👍🏻

@@lauos722 I started following Sadhguru this year and my life has become more balanced since my crown chaka opened back in November. Now I see it is not open all the way until I can master lotus and headstand and on top of that, I keep learning about all types of terminology like ashtanga, double pigeon (any idea on what chakra that is connected to?), malasana and much more. I have made this year my year of change and spirituality is a huge part of it.

I realize now that it is to do with the lack of rotation in my right hip. The things shown in the film are very helpful, so thank you.

Namaste, You offered a great explanation. I always stopped at Ardha Padmasana. I always felt pain and thought there was a problem in my knee or left leg. Now I understand why. It's inflexibility in hips. Thanks so much. I believe after 25 years + of trying unsuccessfully, finally I will be able to do it finally.

I appreciate watching your video. I started yoga when I was age 71, at an intro class. The instructor went into a half lotus and then I figured out that I could and did do that. The other poses that followed I felt clumsy. But I went home and found on UA-cam a person that I could follow her instructing lotus. After 3 weeks, I was able to do lotus left leg then right leg. 4 weeks later I managed right leg then left leg. I found that doing butterfly, I couldn't get my legs all the way to the ground, but if I adjusted my feet to slide together somewhat, the knees were on the ground (and if I had a little forward posture). I think I was able to do this, as teenager (& later), I would put my toes in the crack of my knees as they were frequently cold. Now I'm 73, and find that in my beginner yoga classes for 6 months that no one does lotus, except that in my practice, at the end, I just go into lotus. I can't do lotus without my hands. But I find the lotus posture is easy to maintain, and difficult to slump over. Now, I mention this is that I am no wunderkid at yoga. Forward folds in sun salutations I struggle with. Balance with my bare feet is a patient quest (although not with shoes on). One of my yoga instructors thinks I have flexible hips, although not legs.

Though I've been able to pull myself into lotus from before I practised Ashtanga and my hips are by far not as open as Joey's, I recently found myself able to get into lotus without using my hands in shoulder- and headstand, but my knees still don't reach the ground in baddha konanasana. I think it was cause I started doing fire log pose or double pigeon that seat he does in the end and in particular folding forward in it, that and lotus up-dogs really opens up my hips for that. I'm still practising to get those knees to the floor in baddha konasanana too, but progress is slow.

I did Malasana and Reclined Butterfly Pose/Supta Baddha Konasana
every day for a few months. It takes me 4 months to master bakasana and I found out that I was able to pull myself
into lotus, splits, baddha konasanana, Paschimottanasana and Jānu Śīrṣāsana A B too.
Hip-opening is actually more complex than we often realize.
