The only scary part is where they blocked the swimmer's path and tried to impale him on that paddle. Watching the front right dude "paddle" was worth it tho.
You don't understand. That large rock that blocks the majority of the flow is severely undercut. That means the water flows underneath it, trapping larger objects below. It has been the site of multiple fatalities over the years, including one just this past Saturday. That swimmer was EXTREMELY LUCKY they didn't get pulled under the rock.
I'm not a white water paddler, but I've raced marathon canoes for years. Most people don't have a healthy respect for the power of water and that can be trouble in a hurry. I don't doubt at all I would be shocked at many of the groups. @@will-wright
Guide was ok, I’ve seen worse. He needed stronger commands and to not let others shout directions. He also needed 2 better paddlers in front. For those criticizing him. All of his people were in the boat. They were safe moonwalking down because of his skills . And he was fixing another’s mistake that endangered people.
@@will-wrightAnd there lies the problem, first timers. The Upper Gauley is no place for first timers! And this particular company has had more fatalities than any other company on the Gauley...
The problem is this company doesn't have enough qualified guides for the upper. New guides come from out west that don't know the river and they learn by the seat of their shorts. I've been guiding the Gauley since 76 and I see it every year...
Dude in the right front is paddling with all the strength of an angry kitten 🙄
Never saw a rescue, saw someone stick a paddle in a swimmers face.
lol true
@@will-wrightSo why did you mention rescue in the title?
@@michaelhill56 it says rescue fail
Oh wow 😮
Sungai yang sangat bagus
How did that rope throw not make it to the swimmer? Was the bag not stuffed properly? I wonder.
Max extension I think
that was a long ass throw
Never seen an incident at shipwreck rock. PITIFUL. This rapid has killed a navy seal in a training exercise. Completely un-called for!!!
It was definitely hair raising
A woman was stuffed under that rock just a few weeks ago.
No rescue, seen, how did they manage to flip a boat there?
No clue how they flipped since we were downstream when it happened. And yeah I guess this is more of a rescue failure!
Incompetent guide...

Ignorance is bliss
Yeah that's a BAD place to end up. Like you said. Someone died there recently. I heard of two deaths this year. It's no joke.
@@aaron0110ignorance will get you killed on rivers...
Oriental swimmer!
he was so close to death
Rafting the gauley holding the paddle wrong. smh No way I'd raft this without every single person being a strong experienced paddler who I trust.
Well, you would have been horrified by some of the other groups out there then

My husband and sons did this river about 3 weeks ago. None of them had ever rafted before. They had a blast.
Was that the same rock that someone died at 22+ years ago??? Remember something like that...
Yes, there have been at least 3 deaths in that spot

We were a crew of mostly first timers on a commercial outfit so I think we did ok all things considered. Only had 2 people swim the entire day

Shiiiiiiiit
Show...😂
wow now that almost sucked seen that never fun too watch someone almost die why i video boat instead of guide
Dude it was gnarly…super glad no one died that day!!
Guide who flipped the boat there should get fired
You are correct. I've been guiding UG for a decade and never come close to having a swimmer at shipwreck, much less flipping there.

This guide should never be allowed to work on a river ever again!!
No that’s stupid as fuck
This group got off the short bus and onto a raft.
You would know; we were sitting right next to you on that bus 🚎
@@will-wrightI was on that bus. I saw Will licking the windows!
Lots of short bus window lickers on this raft! Will was just one of many!
