It’s interesting how some troopers opt for a normal voice “Don’t touch the reins” such as at 08:41. I think it’s equally as effective, although I do enjoy seeing tourists get yelled at 😉

It is interesting to see the differences in the guard changes according to dress code. In summer dress they have to return sword, then dismount and walk their horses inside. In winter cloaks, returning swords and dismounting is nigh on impossible so they simply ride back inside where the pit crew can hold their sword while they dismount.

Thick is what these tourists are it isn't the language barrier they over pat the Horses or go right for the reins or try to annoy the Guards in whatever way they can come from abroad to take their clothes off in front of a Guard on duty or challenge him aggressively as they resent their toughness as Soldiers it's very much more abusive now than ten years ago some drunks punch or hit the Horses and yes the Guard is On Duty so tries shouting first then some have to be punched out which is brilliant but the Horses only have their mounted Guard to rely on to save them getting mauled by some obese woman or man The Police are looking about for Terrorist action and can't help much. Please just eject them from the Barrack Grounds completely a little Humiliation of a Bully goes a long way

There should be a plaque explaining that these are active service members of the British military on guard duty and that you should not touch the horses reins under any circumstances. A lot of tourists do not understand that even though the public are allowed to walk through Horse Guards, it is still a military building and these are military guards doing guard duty in the same tradition that the King's Cavalry have for centuries.

This is Horseguards and the archway that leads away from Whitehall brings you out onto Horseguards Parade, where the Trooping of the Colour takes place. The public are allowed to pass through it to get to Saint James's Park from Whitehall (the street that goes between Parliament Square and Trafalgar Square). The reason the Household Cavalry mount the guard here is because it was originaly the entrance to a former royal palace that is no longer here. It is still however one of the official entrances to the Royal Parks that surround Buckingham Palace. On state occasions the Royal Family cortège comes through here.

@@daphnethurlow5388 The Palace of Whitehall no longer exists. This is where the entrance to it originally was and what is now Horseguards Parade was the quadrangle or inner court of that former palace. However there wasn't a passageway or archway between the street now called Whitehall and the inner quadrangle at that time. But the present building is still considered to be one of the formal entrances to the Royal Parks that surround or are next to the various Royal residences, which is why there is a Guard on duty here. Of course the building that you see today was specifically built for the use of the Household Cavalry, but as I said, it is still used by the Royal Family on State occasions. For example, certain members of the Royal Family still come here to watch the Trooping of the Colour.
