they are both doing an important job; tourism. they are part of the reason tourists visit England and bring billions in. Had a friend who did a stint as a guide there. You are allowed to have your photo taken close to the horse and guard. You are allowed to touch the horse, but be guided by the reactions of the horse. Some horses are like some people, they don’t like to be touched and crowded. They will mouth you. You are NOT allowed to touch the guard. You are NOT allowed to touch any of the tack. If the guard feels the horse is being crowded, you WILL be shouted at. Apparently there are tourists from certain areas who are notorious for flouting the rules.

I lot of city people have never been near a horse in their life. So being able to stand near one, and maybe even stroke it is an amazing experience. The majority of these horses are very docile, once they are accustomed to the public. This horse was deliberately engaging with anyone who stood on its left side (which is the side that is generally used to approach and mount a horse). The horse nuzzled a couple of women who had not attempted to pat it, and gave them some really nice photo opportunities.
Maybe there should be a notice that the guard and horse are on duty. I am sure a lot of tourists have never been so close to a horse, and understand even less that interfering with the horse's tack impedes upon the horse and rider in the execution of their duty.
At least neither of these two men looked like they were being deliberate, just clueless that they shouldn’t be touching the reins. I don’t think either of them even understood what she said. But needing a check on the reins brought the handsome dismounted guard over, so that was a plus 😊 The police need to do something to keep so many people from approaching the horse at once and keep them moving along.

The lady with the long dark hair n black jacket has a real love for horses, it's easy to see... and she wasn't coming at the horses face but gently patting his neck, and I respect her for her gentle approach.
Horses also smell fear or anxiety, all these people scared of touching the horse, the horse senses it which can trigger it to become anxious, as they are prey animals that react on instinct.
The horses are so well trained and patient having all those people crowding round them The guard is correct to stop them touching the reins the horses are sensitive to any pull on the reins they are the steering mechanism and the contact between the rider and horse if only people would understand

However many obviously just think household are tourist / tourism photo ops without realising all with in the household be that foot guards through to cavalry just there for tourism. I think barriers should be put up to prevent the public from getting any closer than 3 metres away. The bottom line is their presumption that they can just walk up and do what they like!! Best bet is to put a chain barrier around the sentry and horse giving them 10ft clearance from the tourists. That at least will let the sentry do his/her prime job which is to protect the property and sus out any intruders/trouble makers in the crowd. For too long the poor sentry has had to spend all his/her time sensing the horse's mood and stopping people messing with the horse and tackle . If it does kick or bite someone you can bet the blame will fall squarely on the innocent sentry and horse. Personally, I would like to see the whole area blocked off from visitors. They are not 'getting away' with anything. The HC have decided that this is permissible, and is good discipline and acclimatization for the horses. If tourists overstep the bounds, they are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Change the sign to ‘Do not touch the horses’ and draw a line on the ground over which people may not go, or risk being arrested. I feel so sorry for the horses and the guards. I have even witnessed people deliberately trying to intimidate the guards just to get a reaction. There is absolutely no good reason why people need to go that near the horses, let alone touch them.
99.9% of the populace haven’t a clue how to behave around a horse. It doesn’t enter their pea-brains’ that they could get kicked, or bitten, even though there’s a sign there saying so. They’d be the first ones’ to scream if the horse took sudden fright, reared, or trampled them. Those horses’ are big, & powerful. I’ve spent my whole life around horses’, so I know what they can do.

The horses are so tolerant with so many people at one time pet him! It is commendable the guards has such control of the horses!

‘Do not touch the horses’ and draw a line on the ground over which people may not go, or risk being arrested.
I feel so sorry for the horses and the guards.
I have even witnessed people deliberately trying to intimidate the guards just to get a reaction.
There is absolutely no good reason why people need to go that near the horses, let alone touch them.

99.9% of the populace haven’t a clue how to behave around a horse. It doesn’t enter their pea-brains’ that they could get kicked, or bitten, even though there’s a sign there saying so.
They’d be the first ones’ to scream if the horse took sudden fright, reared, or trampled them. Those horses’ are big, & powerful.
I’ve spent my whole life around horses’, so I know what they can do.
Oh ffs. The horses are trained and this is part of their training. They work amid public occasions and need to be used to crowds etc. Some of the horses love the attention some don't. One is renowned for nippy bites if he decides you're too close.
I would definitely respect that horse’s territory! But I think they enjoy the pets.
This is going to end badly at some point. I don't care how gentle or well trained -- horses spook and people get hurt. People are ignorant and make assumptions thinking they can't possibly get hurt. That picture they want might just cost them or others dearly given their stupid actions around a 1600 lb animal with hooves.
