Minimalism to me is just the practice of learning to be satisfied with what I already have and be mindful of new purchases...it sounds like you're beginning a journey, all the best :-)
I used to get a high from buying and now I get my kicks from walking away from something I want, but know I don't need. I can't pinpoint when the change happened but I'm thankful for it.
I'm semi-mortified by the amount of clothes I bought this year. I've completely run out of space to buy anything new, which has forced me to really reflect on the shopping I've done and the debt I've accumulated. I appreciate your honesty and advice about enjoying what I already have!
Minimalism has helped me realise that I don’t need much to be happy. It made me appreciate things I own and I get to spend my money on stuff that really brings me value and aligns with my values.
I found that minimalism and low buy brought me a lot of satisfaction. That toxic feeling of "insufficiency" that I used to experience before does no longer live with me.
Love that! I’m still pretty novice shopping secondhand but I think it’s great - the nature of it in itself teaches you how to wait and be intentional with what you’re looking for. Awesome, Tristan!
I thought of you yesterday because I spent money on underwear and socks haha I used to never buy those things just to have more money for other things that I didn't need, thankful for new priorities (and undies)
My journey into minimalism has been so profound for me. The biggest lesson I've learned thus far is how little I need to be content and the longer I've spent time with each item it's forcing me to be honest with myself.. It took me 4 years of low buys, no buys to lead me into intentional spending and I have to thank you for introducing me to Dave Ramsey, his outlook and method resonates with me.
Whenever I fall into this trap of thinking "if I buy this sweater and this shirt and this and this I finally will have the perfect style".... I think about your strong messages and then I stop thinking about buying stuff. Thanks :)
I have tried to explain this feeling of being overwhelmed with my stuff and getting less join from it the more I own. Friends and family seem baffled when I try to explain it. You explain it very well!
Your videos are so helpful. I am working my way through paying off my credit card debt but still struggle with "wanting" the things. And tbh since the start of the pandemic I have fallen SO HARD off my wagon. But acknowledgment and acceptance are the first steps to change
I found it so interesting that with the low buy you still had the desire to shop more, but willfully stopped yourself. With minimalism, it seems your thought process has actually changed to not wanting to buy as much. Quite a lightbulb moment for me, as someone who shops too much for my income. As an aside, I think online shopping has widened our scope to see what's available worldwide. Good in one sense, but dangerous for those of us with addictive tendencies.
I’m on this exact journey, so thank you for sharing! I realize how much I tend to mindlessly consume & social media usually triggers me. I decided to go on a spending freeze and I already failed (& I have a friend holding me accountable so the guilt is real 🙈). Some days, I feel out of control and like I’ll never get be able to stop mindlessly buying shit I don’t need. This truly inspired me to do better.
I really connected with this video. I frequently grapple between times of consumerism and minimalism. I really enjoy my times of minimalism, and I have to actively remind myself that buying won't solve my problems or make me happier.
In my discovery of minimalism and shopping your wardrobe, I realised that I don't have some basics, yet that has not even moved me to look during this Black Friday /Cyber Monday as I know the things I need will still be waiting for me beyond this madrush. Indeed, to want less is key to contentment. Thanks for your lessons.
christina, i just want to thank you for such inspiring, helpful, vulnerable content that you dont often come across on the public accounts of fashion bloggers who are clearly having a shopping addiction and masking it behind their "profession". you are living proof that loving fashion and being a fashion blogger is not an excuse to get caught up in the constant cycle of buying. i love your journey and it inspired me to think more intentionally about my purchase choices and really analyse my consumer behavior. for example, since 2019 im keeping track of all my purchases and also trying to plan ahead with a budget and clear descriptions of the items that i need or want, which helps a lot with impulse shopping urges. you're right and it is a journey that forces you to be honest with yourself, which at the end of the day is the hardest and most rewarding thing
I am currently on a path to minimalism because although I love getting new things, I HATE being surrounded by clutter. I would buy new things and then look around my house, feel panicked and start to find things that I could declutter. I would get rid of things that I hardly used just to make room for the new purchases. It was a vicious cycle that was putting me in debt. Now I only buy what I need and I’m trying to replace the high of consuming new stuff with the high of decluttering. It’s definitely a journey.
You are my BIGGEST inspiration! Thanks to you I read the Total Money Makeover. And changed my spendig behavior. And I am ready to pay off dept like never before. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!❤️
YES! I have the audio book and listen to it every time I need a reminder or seem to be veering off course. I’ve listened to the book like 5x now 😂 - but it’s amazing. Congrats!! YOU GOT THIS
Your final comment today really resonated with me, Christina! Over the last two years I’ve been discovering my true style and finally focusing on using what I have mindfully.Your videos have helped me so much!
Yay this came at such a good time!! I'm on a no buy but have been window shopping...a slippery slope. Instead I am going to play dress up with all the clothes I already have :)
I've watched some of your videos in this past month, and this one make me realize, you are the real version of confessions of shopaholic. That movie ended with a fairy tale, while your story is far for an end, but full of process and progress. I feel so motivated, thank you 💐
I've been changing my shopping habits in the past year or two, and you summarized it all so nicely in this video. I related to everything you said. In my case, I came across minimalism first and started exploring that. I loved the idea of having less things to take care of and removing clutter from my life, and that motivated me to reduce my shopping to the bare minimum. And saving money during the process is a bonus :)
I think I’m buying less and holding out for something I’d really really love. Strangely I’m quite minimal in every aspect of my life other than fashion. I really enjoy getting dressed every morning and trying new ways of styling things. But I was in a cycle of rewarding myself with clothes and buying emotionally. Don’t think I’ll ever stop shopping, but when I’m tempted by eg the Zara sale, I think: would I prefer to wear Zara or prada today? And the answer for me is prada. And if I don’t buy lots of Zara often, I can buy that one piece of prada that I can wear and enjoy all the time, and slowly build up a small designer collection, which I’ll use more often because I’ll have less. Also I like watching some stylists on UA-cam who give me loads of ideas on how to wear stuff I already have in interesting ways.
Simple joy: caring for your beloved piece of clothing. Attending to a spot, soaking prior delicate wash, hanging on the rack to dry, folding it nicely to its place :) Please do not think I have nothing else to do, I have two jobs, large family to take of, highest degree possible and I am busy as hell. I grew up in Eastern Europe, clothes were expensive in the 80th, but well made. My husband suite, still looks phenomenal. I think it is kinda cool. Your thought of spending time with your clothes made me think of it. Great video! I especially love your delivery.
“I do a lot of forward thinking now before I bring and item into my”. I totally agree, I think this is profound! I translate this statement one way as “consider the space/place you have for an item”. During Covid, The USA has significantly increased the individual savings accounts and decreased credit card debt. We can do this!
YES GRRL. YASS!! I love everything about this video. One thing I've learned is how important words are to me. Certain words resonate whereas others really don't. I love the minimalism community on YT because everybody is drawn to their own words but it is basically the same thing. I love minimalists who concentrate on the "sustainability" aspect, or people like Vera from Simple Happy Zen that focus on "slow living". With you it seems like the word "intentionality" really resonates and I love that. For me, my favorite word to describe this philosophy/lifestyle is actually "minimalism". I feel lighter, less stressed out and more stylish AND confident with my all black everything, monochromatic, capsule wardrobe. Keep up the good work!!
Hi I don’t usually comment but watching today I just felt I had to because I know exactly how you feel and have been through the same process, I started watching your channel about a year ago after searching how to stop buying clothes, when you said you just stop caring about shopping and something clicked it was the same for me I was browsing around the shopping mall looking for something to buy or on the hunt ( yes I have watched the minimalists 😃 ) I looked around me and it was all women the same age has me and I thought is this it is this how it’s always going to be pointless shopping and I just had enough went home with my bags of clothes I just didn’t need tried them on and a week later took them back and asked for refunds £200 🇬🇧 worth I didn’t even realise I spent that much 🙈 it hasn’t been a easy process but I have stopped I have spent time through COVID decorating the house bought home items sensibly and 3 months of no clothes buying on a journey with the help of minimalism, a lot of watching minimalist channels and taking on the mindset of minimalism which have really helped x thank you for your help with your channel best wishes from the UK 💕💕
Thank you for this video! I love the way you break down the information into tangible actions. I have always enjoyed Ronald Banks’ channel and the way he communicates theoretical information about minimalism. But I love that you offer suggestions to put those ideas into action which makes me understand him and appreciate you both so much more.
You are so amazing! I am very grateful for your transparency, willingness to be vulnerable, and beautifully made informative videos! They have helped me SO MUCH on my own journey towards creating a more intentional life 💗
Hey Christina, thank you for sharing your journey, I've been following you since the beginning. I still struggle a lot with searching for validation through my stuff, mainly clothes & make up. I find myself quite lost and lonely, I have to admit, after many changes that have deeply affected me (becoming a mom, miscarrying my second baby, now 7 months pregnant with my third, moving and changing jobs...). Somehow, I KNOW that getting that blazer will not complete me in any way, but I still crave it intensely. I try to be gentle with myself, but most months, I am ashamed of my spending habits. Anyways. Thank you. Love from Belgium 💕
I have been a "minimalist" for about 5yrs now and I definitely have the ups and downs...sometimes I stick to my minimalist ways to the T and sometimes I got influenced by social media and bought stuff I dont really need. It really is a process and I'm trying not to be too tough on myself when I'm in the "down" mode. Minimalism is tough to practice when you have social media bombarding you with marketing 24/7.
Breaking this down has made me realize I need to spend time with my stuff thank you for this simple wording that really made me think. I struggle with wanting the perfect wardrobe and then I buy something and I wonder if it's right for me I look at your wardrobe and love what you're wearing I'm trying to do a low buy year but find myself wanting more clothes or like you say spending so much time looking at clothes online.
I was literally searching for this type video .. and here it is ..woowwwww... Just perfect ❤️❤️ I buy alot this year because of maybe quanrentine. But I am gonna start minimalism for sure after watching this video
I have learned that I shop to maintain an aesthetic that I might’ve outgrown. I like colorful button-down shirts with circular patterns. I am wearing jeans more after spending over 30 years wearing skirts and dresses. Finally accepting my new style has helped. Now I am intentional about decluttering. I am holding on to my things while they are packed away. I have stored stuff in one location where I can pull out the stuff I thought I wanted to give away. I shop less because I can shop my storage spot. I only buy quality pieces that I actually use. I think your point about using our things is so important. There is a great TED talk by a nurse who talks about how people die before using their things.
I am thinking about removing shopping apps from my phone. I’m finding myself shopping out of boredom or habit. And I am in debt. And I’m trying to pay for grad school. Did I really need that 100.00 sterling silver bracelet I bought last night off Etsy? Nope. It amazes me that at 43 years old I am still caught in this trap of materialism that always promises happiness but never delivers
It’s a very difficult trap to get out of, even when you think you’ve beat it. The constant marketing we are subjected to ALL THE TIME is nuts. You got this! Be kind to yourself, and enjoy what you get enjoyment out of, but also honor your goals. That’s where the balance lies for me personally - so I hope that POV helps 🥰
Absolutely loved the message in this. Minimalism is definitely something I am looking to become better at through this year. Thanks for all the tips my love. USE YOUR STUFF. Yes.
love that this vid came at the biggest consumerist weekend of the year! i limited my black friday shopping to 2 girlfriend collective sports bras (i only have 1 and i feel it's limited my fitness journey bc i have to wash so often) and a pair of black velvet joggers to give me something comfy but cute to wear this holiday season at home. i'm considering 2021 to be a low-spend year. hope to hear your 2021 financial plans/goals soon!
I completely agree with you, social media has bombarded us with so much imaging of constantly needing the newest and latest things has made wearing clothing we already own a novelty. I have never been a huge trend chaser, but I will admit I have been sucked into it sometimes. I still enjoy some pieces I have had since my university days. If only i was the same size then...who really needs to button a blazer anyways 🤣🤣. I have been really enjoying your low buy/minimalist series. COVID-19 has definitely reshaped the way I shop, especially since now that I work from home, there really is no where to wear nice clothing to 🤣🤣. I totally agree that it's a a journey and there are ups and downs.
I asked for no gifts specifically from friends and family, but to be honest I still definitely struggle with the physical product that sometimes comes with doing content creation on IG/UA-cam, especially in the fashion space. I noticed I need to vet it much more closely. For example I have plans to move away from fashion in the coming months because the “new clothes” gifts always seem like a great idea at the time, then I get really overwhelmed. It’s definitely a process and slowly but surely learning what works, or if I just have to stop and say no altogether.
Thankyou, definitely a journey of intentionality. Of being a recovering shopaholic and a minamalist learner. After deluttering bout 50% of my stuff, trying no buy then low buy can really relate with seeing it as a journey and process. I tried your suggestions, including using depop. Thankyou this is working with the low buy and in a way reducing my spending on clothes etc.
Thank you for this video. I am exploring low buy and enjoying my items more. I struggle with the FOMO (fear of missing out)... Again, thank you for the tips!
such a great video. thanks for sharing. have been watching a lot of minimalist videos and definitely noticing my shopping habits change - the looking at the future self and thinking about will i really use this? is a big one for me.
I’ve not shopped for over 2 months as we have a goal of moving into a flat and we need to buy furniture for it. I have to say Black Friday was very hard but I did not buy anything as I know we need a bed, sofa etc.. not another dress. But my god the want to shop was crazy. It’s really made me recognise how bad my shopping addiction was. But I know that want to shop does go away and I don’t need to act on it.
I'm incorporating minimalism and lowbuy this year and decluttering. My boyfriend and I are moving state next year so I'm I the process of decluttering clothes, jewelry and makeup. I've got one makeup medium bag I want to declutter more though it's pretty curated but there's some extras i bought and just don't need or use or might be expired.
Becoming disgusted with fast fashion has really helped me as well as focusing on quality natural fabrics. Now I thrift even more than before and buy quality clothes on sale by planning ahead. But now I am dealing with the urge to replace every cheap item I hate but still use with cashmere or silk. I want to drown in those fabrics, I'm trying to replace that feeling with the thrill of watching my credit card balance go down though. It's hard though, fashion is such a source of creativity for me.
Definitely trying to work harder at not thinking about acquiring new stuff. My only expense really now aside from the obvious is fashion. Even though I'm all about thrifting and ebay I still acquire the odd thing here and there that to be honest, I did not need. I've recently done another de-clutter of the wardrobe and thats IT for 2020-2021, I'm putting myself on a no/low buy.
What’s helped me shop less, and I do mean a very actual shopping addiction in every sense of the word….has been the overwhelming desire to quit my job that’s making me miserable, but there is no backup job, just extreme burnout and trying to save my sanity. When I do finally quit, I want a hefty savings, and at least the life skills to get by on very very little since I will have no future income. The daily grind and misery for the first time in my life has now tipped the scales more than my strong shopping addiction has in the past. ……Here’s to a better future
@@Christinamychas Just finishing watching the video now and I love that you put a clip of mean girls "you go glen coco!" in your video. I burst out laughing :) . It's something I quote with my sisters all the time.
I really need this. This weekend hella reinforced that I have shopping addiction. I love the principles you outline. I'm doing a lowbuy in 2021 (aka the only thing I'm buying is my regular book subscription box and 5-10 new release books for 2021 from authors I love). I'm going to dupe new makeup products with what I already have and do a "treasure bank fund" (Hailey Evans on here talked about it) where I only give myself a very small amount of cash to spend each month so I'm not mindlessly shopping with my credit cards/online
@@Christinamychas It's such a good mindset shift. Like it clicked in my brain. Spending that money on things that will genuinely bring me long term happiness and be more intentional about the spending
Same here. I have some debt I'd like to pay off, but books spark a lot of joy for me and since I work from home full-time, I don't spend money on transportation, eating out, Starbucks, etc.
I can’t believe I’m about to make this comment, but I loved your Skill Share ad. It made me laugh. As always, great content. Number one is just starting to really hit me. It’s nice to see how you’ve moved through these steps. Thank you for your videos.
Love your videos, your channel is so underrated & I really believe your channel will grow. You put such amazing and quality content. I do have a video request! Assuming you have some sort of budgeting system, can you share yours??
Thanks Rach! I’ll def make a video walking through a budget in real time, but I made a video here about how to budget and the every dollar app I use for the interim 🥰! ua-cam.com/video/h_wsTnWO9L4/v-deo.html
I have made a bag with things I love but dont wear much because I have enough clothing. So instead of buying something new when my clothes no longer can be worn I can replace the clothing easily with something from the bag, so I dont have to use money on something new.
What im doing right now still want all the things i have i keep.it..and stop shopping at all and pay my credit ...so i dont jeed t9 buy any more because have everything i want...
I’m always watching your videos coz I can relate so much😊whenever I’m outside running errand i just put on my airpods and listen to you☺️sorry for my english it’s not my mother tongue 😅🇯🇵
I’m in debt to myself (by a lot now). I have such troubles with not spending money on clothes, make up, skincare, food, ... I bought 4 trousers which are too small for me because I want to loose weight but I order fast food way too often. It’s been 6 months now and I’m still not close. I decluttered about 6 months ago but my closed is full again. I am I addicted to spending money that I order something to just have it for 5 minutes and then send it back. It’s embarrassing. I’ve never been like this but it’s getting worse and worse the longer our lockdown continues. I hope I can change
I am the same way. I do really well, months and months of paying down debt and then I binge instead of eating, I binge on shopping-sometimes designer items. It's awful.
Lol I did spend a fortune on it - secondhand at least, but still half my paycheck. Don’t be fooled I def didn’t have the money when I bought this, and it was an insane % of my take home pay. Not smart on my part at all.

I too have learned that having a lot of stuff stresses me out! I am much more aware of what I choose to bring into my life now.
my low buy year brought me serenity and peace, just like you mentioned.
I’m no minimalist or intend to be, but I am trying to shop more mindfully and not impulse buy as much. Great tips.
Minimalism to me is just the practice of learning to be satisfied with what I already have and be mindful of new purchases...it sounds like you're beginning a journey, all the best :-)
As someone with credit card debt I needed to hear all this. I'm proud of myself for paying off $450 on my credit card debt this month though!
YES! Amazing!
Very good😮😮😮
I used to get a high from buying and now I get my kicks from walking away from something I want, but know I don't need. I can't pinpoint when the change happened but I'm thankful for it.

So proud that I resisted my food and didn't buy anything Black Friday. Definifely focusing on my goals to pay off more my debt helped.
I love how passionate you are about smart/slow shopping and I love how you try to educate your audience about it!

Just perfect ❤️❤️
I buy alot this year because of maybe quanrentine. But I am gonna start minimalism for sure after watching this video
Love it, Ishita!
Love your content so much, Christina! You have no idea how you sharing your journey helps me through my own shopping addiction 🥰
I stop buying nonsense things too since I started this minimalism journey
Black friday: *exists*
**shopping addiction intensifies**
This video is so needed! Thank you!!!
I also really like Ron Banks. He is so insightful! And I love listening to him.
When it clicked with me it truly was amazing .. I have loved my journey through de cluttering my space and my mind !
Your videos are great! They make me stay in focus on my debt free journey. Thank you style apotheca😊
I watch your videos with pleasure and always promise myself to start been more minimalist...wish me luck for next year! 😃
Nice Job! Unpacking your thought process is very helpful to those of us on this journey! Happy Sunday!
That’s where the balance lies for me personally - so I hope that POV helps 🥰
good idea!
Absolutely loved the message in this. Minimalism is definitely something I am looking to become better at through this year. Thanks for all the tips my love. USE YOUR STUFF. Yes.
Hmm...that mirror is lovely! I agree on paying the price concept.
love that this vid came at the biggest consumerist weekend of the year!
i limited my black friday shopping to 2 girlfriend collective sports bras (i only have 1 and i feel it's limited my fitness journey bc i have to wash so often) and a pair of black velvet joggers to give me something comfy but cute to wear this holiday season at home.
i'm considering 2021 to be a low-spend year. hope to hear your 2021 financial plans/goals soon!
How do you deal with receiving gifts for the holidays? I am always grateful for presents but it can be overwhelming at times
Just starting my journey. So happy I found you. This really resonated with me
Loved the cutaways in this video! So unique!
All I can say is - you covered it all and have really made me think about sooo many things. Thanx
8:53 struck a chord 😩🥺 I thought I was the only one 😭 sighsssssss thanks for keeping it real Christina
such a great video. thanks for sharing. have been watching a lot of minimalist videos and definitely noticing my shopping habits change - the looking at the future self and thinking about will i really use this? is a big one for me.
Thank you so much. Everything you say hits home. Kudos to you.
This editing though! Bravo
Really liked how you edited this video! 👌🏻
great video! i can relate! seriously, did not want this video to end...
I hope so to😊
I love the editing on this video! 🥳🥳 (also love the message 😁)
You simply make me happy. I appreciate your content so much Christina. 🧡
I’m honored! ❤️
Yes! A “treasure” budget sounds amazing!
This is wonderfulness.
Thank you for this! And thanks for introducing me to Mr Banks.
Also love your full length mirror!
Definitely what I need 😲😲
Oooh i need to check out mr banks! I need to want less...that's the feeling that has been the biggest struggle! Such great content Miss Xtina ❤
Same here
This is so helpful. Thank you for sharing your insights and lessons.
I can’t believe I’m about to make this comment, but I loved your Skill Share ad. It made me laugh. As always, great content. Number one is just starting to really hit me. It’s nice to see how you’ve moved through these steps. Thank you for your videos.
Oh! And, I’ve learned that I actually really enjoy the stuff I already have and that I should be wearing it!
Exceptional!
Love your videos, your channel is so underrated & I really believe your channel will grow. You put such amazing and quality content. I do have a video request! Assuming you have some sort of budgeting system, can you share yours??
Thanks Rach! I’ll def make a video walking through a budget in real time, but I made a video here about how to budget and the every dollar app I use for the interim 🥰! ua-cam.com/video/h_wsTnWO9L4/v-deo.html
so true!
Thank you❤️❤️
I love the add addition was so funny and hilarious and out of box
I’m always watching your videos coz I can relate so much😊whenever I’m outside running errand i just put on my airpods and listen to you☺️sorry for my english it’s not my mother tongue 😅🇯🇵
needed this 🥰
Loved this content & creative style video best regards from Sub in Israel 💖
Well said!
Great video.
Yey! A little bit early for this.
Yay!
It's awful.
✅️ good video
Hey! What debt did you start with and how much is it now? 😊💖
About 120k and now it’s 28k! This is my year! 🥰
you should run a skillshare class!!! :O
Omg, you have Saint Laurent jacket! I wanted to spend a fortune on it (from a credit card, of course) :(((
Lol I did spend a fortune on it - secondhand at least, but still half my paycheck. Don’t be fooled I def didn’t have the money when I bought this, and it was an insane % of my take home pay. Not smart on my part at all.
style apotheca I hope you at least wear it often, not like a trophy to keep in the closet and secretly admire! It’s still awesome jacket 😭
