Hi ! A very good day to you and just to ask the Rog Ally X have the steam store ? Why do I still need to install the Bazzite Os ???? Hope to hear from you soon , because your explaination is so complicated ???
After having the original Ally running on Windows for most of its life until I switched to Bazzite towards the end, as soon as I got my Ally X I booted into Windows once just do to a bios update, then I wiped it and installed Bazzite. For me it makes the user experience infinitely better to the point where if Bazzite wasn't an option, I wouldn't have gotten an Ally X. There are no games that only work on Windows that I have any desire to play so this is perfect for me. The best thing about Bazzite is the sleep function though, which just doesn't work nearly as well on Windows.
I studied for about three months to decide whether I wanted to steam deck or an ROG and a couple weeks ago I decided on the ROG basically because of the games that I play like Black ops six destiny, etc. I got the ROGZ one downloaded black ops six in modern warfare three which took some stress trying to figure out how to work the ROG but once I did and after two days of downloading, I played my first match. It ran great. Still prefer my PS five but my RG is awesome. Second choice.
yeah, got ROG X with Bazzite OS installed. No regrets at all. I needed window and do not want to build a desktop PC but still be able to travel around with it. Besides, I have Quest 3. So linking that with my ROG X too. it's a win win situation for me. I no longer need to sit in front of my desk all day not getting out of my house. I can travel to other country and also travel to nearby cafe.
Valve also seem to be planning to add official support for the ROG Ally with Steam OS in the future, which is very nice! Though the ROG Ally does seem to be a bit expensive and the extra performance seems to come at a cost in terms of battery life. Steam Deck has a better balance of performance, value, & battery life imo. If you want to be able to play your games at the highest frame rate, highest resolution, & highest refresh rate tho honestly I think you should just get a gaming laptop! Especially when the ROG Ally is like $7-800 usd.
@AetherMomon I will buy a handheld even if it's 1.5k, the reason being i get time rarely, and thus, I would want my device next to me whenever I wish to play, especially on the go. I'll pay more price if it gives better performance, something close to a laptop.
Thanks for the guide - followed along and got this all set up and working. As a complete noob, I messed up on the parition though and had to start again. I opted for Disk Genius, which assigned my parition a new drive number - this wasn't shown as an available option during the Bazzite installation and I ended up installing it to some random small partition (no idea what it was, or why it was shown as an option). For other newbies out there, the parition you create for this must be 'unallocated' space and it will then show up accordingly in the Bazzite installation as the only option. Now it's all working, absolutely loving the dual boot option - best of both worlds. Bazzite is so much better in terms of presentation and feels like a proper console. However, it is limiting - many steam titles are not verfied, or even compatable, with the Linux Steam Deck system (as per ProtonDB). Will be using windows for gamepass, steam games that run better on windows, games that I want to mod and all games that use different launchers. Flicking between the two really does take the Rog Ally X to the next level - it's like having a 2 in 1 device now.
I appreciate the comment! Yeah, the experience of being able to toggle between two different operating systems is amazing! I mainly run games on Bazzite, but sometimes having Windows is nice.
On the last part, proton default to what ever proton set to with in the setting in steamos/bazzite, what you did is right on changing proton if a game is not working when it should for some reason, as for that game it maybe running the opengl linux port as don't default to windows port unless force proton on it.
Hey Rudy... If you use Drive Genius and follow all the default prompts and settings, it formats the other partition as NTFS, which Bazzite refuses to both write over and delete. You need to make sure the partition is "unallocated space."
Hello, Rudy! New subcriber here! Nice video by the way. Just a little advice, the videos on gaming and hardware topics would look much better if you increased the resolution since the degradation of UA-cam already does enough damage. 1080p content only looks good on a mobile. This is just a contribution on my part because I like what you do on your channel. Thank you so much!
Hey Rudy (again): You state that during the end of the Bazzite installation that the installer "will look online for updates," but you never call out directions to set up network connections during the Bazzite installation configuration...just disk and user stuff (which with the install isn't possible [as I previously pointed out] if you use Drive Genius with default settings). Couple of things I was able to recover quickly from, but I'm sure many watching this will be frustrated with...
Hi BalddRudy, would be possible to split the new SSD in 3 parts and have OSs in both and one partition only for the games? In that way, for those who have OG Ally and don’t want to try their luck with SD barbecue… would that be possible?
Im pretty sure you can, you'd partition the main SSD to take out 1/3rd and do it again for the last 3rd. But obviously you'd want to upgrade internal SSD before splitting 3 ways

Standard buttons + analog sticks + touchscreen + trackpads is truly a great combo for a handheld gaming pc. People will obviously have their own preferences in operating systems and overall performance, but having more input options is definitely a win.
Beautiful guide! Question though: I partitioned the hard drive and love bazzite… now I want to give bazzite more space and take from windows on the partitioned hard drive. Can I just follow the steps and expand (rather than redo whole process) it via the same process or do I need to follow a different path? Sorry, everyone on Reddit makes it sound like bazzite needs to be given extra space in a special way. Not sure if bazzite would accept such a simple expansion allocation
Thank you! I believe it should. And I think the easiest way would be to simply go into Disk Genius and expand the Bazzite partition. Once I get back home from a work trip, I can try it.
I've seen so many videos do this and I keep wondering why that on these windows handhelds, just install steam, make "big picture mode" from the view tab be the startup and you have the steam os setup from the startup? I don't have a handheld, but playing on steam in windows 11 on my laptop, wouldn't big screen steam be the way to go instead of these roundabout ways?
Not really, and that's my bad for not mentioning it in the video. Steam Big Picture Mode didn't always work 100% of the time. The Sleep/Wake functionality is miles ahead of how it functions in Windows, which makes it truly feel like a handheld instead of a PC that has a controller built in. Shaders caching before launch is nice for game performance, IMO. But yeah, a lot of it comes down to preference. Since most of the games that I play aren't tied down to having to work on Windows, I prefer this. Valve has said that they're releasing an official version of Steam OS for these handhelds, but in the meantime, this is what we have.
