I think this is one of the best instructional videos I've seen. The way you explained the whole installation process made the task look easy and simple. It was pretty comprehensive too. Thank you for making this video!
Thank you, I appreciate that!!
Here's a tip. For air bubbles use a sewing needle to make a tiny hole in the center of the bubble. Work the air towards the hole to let the air escape. The hole will be so small you will never see it once the air is pressed out. Hope this helps Patrick! The flares look killer!
thanks so much for the feedback!!...I should have known that, my wife has a vinyl business making custom decals and I remember her saying that in the past...haha...great info!
Thank you, you made the process easy, and I’ll start my project next week
Thanks for this video, you covered everything I had questions on. I was worried about doing this project myself but now feel like it's an easy install. Great installation video 👍🏼
Thanks man, I appreciate that!…glad it helped ya, if you have any questions just let me know!
I just bought some for my 2018 trd sport. Same color! Gonna make the truck look bigger and more bad ass. Appreciate the vid! I’ll be back to watch it to make sure I didn’t forget anything.
Nice!…yea lemme know if ya need any help at all, thanks for watching!
Great video...thanks for taking the time to explain it well...I'm about to do this on my 2021 TRD Pro and this was very helpful.
Thanks Pat, I appreciate it!… Glad it helped, let me know if you need anything!
Great video and glad I watched before installing the same Flares on my truck. Going to buy that film and do the same! Oh and I love my new WinJet Renegades w/ LED backups... Thanks for the videos. 👍👍
Thanks Rich!…I appreciate all the support on the channel, if I can ever help with anything just let me know!
Good video! what a pain in the butt actually installing these
Awesome video. I just did flares this weekend and immediately decided I can't drive the truck until I put some kind of protective film under the rubber gasket.
I'll add that cutting the protection film between the main fender and the piece under the headlight isn't really optional. If you ever need to change your headlights the small piece has to come out so you'll cut the protective film anyway. Better to do that before and water or debris can get onto the adhesive through that seam.
Thank you!…and yea that’s a great point, I didn’t even think about that…thanks for sharing, much appreciated!
Very informative video. Great job! Thanks for the pointers.
Thanks Dan, I appreciate it!…happy to help!
I used a sharp grease pencil to mark the fender outline. I pinched it between my finger and thumb and ran it along the fender edge as a guide. When I was done it wiped right off. The grease in the pencil is more like a crayon and I tested it in a hidden area first.
I also used 3/4 expel door guard tape. It was easy to form to the shape as I laid it down and it left no bubbles since it is so thin.
great explanation even though im a ford owner I will be doing flares on my truck as soon as the weather gets warm
Thanks Neil!...I appreciate that!
Very informative video, good job!
thank you, I appreciate that!!
Thanks for the great video!! Looks awesome!!
Thanks Larry, I appreciate that!
Can’t wait to see those rigid lights come in!
just put them on tonight man!...they look killer, I'll post some pics in our Tundra page tomorrow!...it was already dark out when I finished up or I would have taken a couple tonight!
Awsome love your work!!
Thanks Amanda!!...I appreciate that!!
Your truck is sick bro bad ass
Thanks man, I appreciate that!… Thanks for checking out the channel!
Very informative thank you so much!!
Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for sharing great information.
no prob, thanks for watching!!...and for the kind words!!
Great video. I’ve been wanting to get these but didn’t want to scratch my paint
thanks man!!...yea this film was a must, and easy to install!
Wonderful and informative video. Question please: would covering the whole area under the flare with the vinyl (rather than just the strip under the rubber gasket) provide more paint protection? Thank you again for this great video. You are a great instructor. Your truck is also so nice.
great video!
Thanks Marc!!…much appreciated!!
Hello Man I love the video. Can you please help me fine the tape? I am having trouble with getting the information.
Thanks again
Terry
Great video! Do you know if there is a good spray version of this that would work the same as the film? I'd still use the tape for the overspray and it seems like it eliminate any bubbles or wrinkles. Thank you.
Thanks Dave!...unfortunately I’m not aware of any kind of spray that would work like this PPF...it may exist, I’ve just never seen it before...if ya do come across anything, let me know if ya don’t mind!...thanks for watching!
can you post a pic looking down the front side? trying to get a reference to how much they stick out because im running 20x10-18 fuel wheels and some 35" nitto trail graps. id like to put a set of these on my 2021 CM to help with the rocks and mud slinging up the side of my truck
Unfortunately there’s no way to post a pic in the comments here on UA-cam (that I know of anyway)...but my wheel/tire setup is 20x9 +12 wrapped in 35x12.5’s and the flares are literally just about even with my tires...I would say they would help you for sure, but you’re gonna stick out a little farther than the flares, hope that helps!
Great video! You think this is protective enough for installing oem fender flares without a gasket? (New ram 1500)
Thanks man, I appreciate it!…honestly I would think so…I can’t say for 💯 certainty because mine had the gasket, but my paint was in perfect condition after removing flares…this stuff is legit!…I would just check em every so often to make sure, let me know how ya make out!
Good job showing how to do this. But every fender flare removal showed rust on the bottom of the truck fender and the paint wear line from rubber gasket but no rust there your take.
They have a nice profile. Do they make them without the faux mounting bolts?
thank you!...and I don't believe so, I've never seen them without
Great video. Just a quick question could you reinstall the front and rear mud flaps if you were to use a longer plastic bolt or push tab? Thanks
Thanks Brian, I appreciate it!...and I don’t think it would work only because of the way the flaps sit on the truck...if I remember correctly, I think they would still interfere with the flares, not allowing them to sit flush against the truck like they should...hope that helps, thanks for watching!
I just installed flares this weekend. I tried cutting the OEM flaps to wedge them under the flares but there's not really enough room. It was also a good excuse to buy rokblox flaps :D
If there is one perfect video, I would vote on this one. Mine came without instructions from Amazon
Thanks man, I appreciate that!...glad it’s helping out, thanks for watching!
I have the Toyota Fender Flare installed on my 2016 Double Cab Limited and 2 years later the rubber seal came off the center rear flares both of them and feel a into the fender flares, I've been loosening and re-putting on the rubber seal and still have that problem. There is a guy on youtube installing PRO COMP FLARES and does not use the rubber seal but uses a black silcone trim with out the rubber seal, what's your opinion on that and have you looked into it.
Hey Richard!...yes sir, I’ve actually seen that exact video...I can’t speak from experience, but it does look pretty good!...I almost did it myself, but I knew I was going to be removing them to do a review on the paint protection film and also ceramic coat the truck...it looks very doable, and if done correctly I think it would look great!
Nice job. Do you know of any mud flaps that will work with Bushwacker pocket style fender flares on a 3'd gen Tacoma?
Thanks Dean!… unfortunately I’m not sure on the Tacoma, I looked at a couple sets for the tundra I just didn’t like how they stock out… Check with RokBlokz, they may have some thing that would work for you, hope that helps!
Two questions did you paint match your door handles? I cant find any parts for my 2020 limited. They are magnetic grey with chrome and i want the chrome gone but dont want to lost the smart features. Second questions is what size lift do you have to clear those 35s. Thanks!
Hey Eric!...yes sir, I painted my handles to match...my 2020 Platinum came like yours, with chrome on part of the handles...you can buy replacements color matched without losing smart features but the price is absolutely ridiculous...no way I was paying the amount they want for them, so I just got color matched paint and did it myself...came out great!...and my setup is 4/2 ReadyLift SST sittin on 20x9 +12 wrapped in 35x12.5’s, thanks for watching!
@@NitroZ18Fishing Thats amazing! So you popped off the chrome piece and roughed it up and painted it? Truck looks amazing btw. Stumbled upon your video because I am on the fence with the flares and your video was very helpful will probably be purchasing them as soon as I figure out the handle situation
yes sir, that's it!...saved hundreds...and thanks for the kind words!
How did you cut the protection film to keep a straight edge? Are those 2"strips?
Very slowly and carefully cut them with scissors...haha...these were actually the 6” strips, but honestly you can get away with 1”-2” strips for sure if they’re placed properly...thanks for watching!
Great install video. Question I assume you can add other styles fender flares from bush wacker and still use the paint protection? I’m looking at a different style but I will need to get them painted LunaRock for my 21 tundra Pro. Also NitroZ with 35’s on your tundra how is the power loss and gas mileage? Thanks.
Thanks Don, I appreciate it!…yes sir, you can use the paint protection film with any style, same procedure…just make sure to line it up as shown in the video
The 35’s did affect power loss and mpg of course, the power loss was slight but noticeable…the gas mileage just sucks…lol…I average about 9-11, give or take (depending on city/highway)…I swear there’s a funnel somewhere in the gas line 🤣
@@NitroZ18Fishing Thank you for the info. I agree with the gas that’s what’s stopping me to go bigger. Lol. Truck looks good!!
Thanks again, I appreciate it!…let me know if I can help with anything else!
I don't know if you said it throughout your video but I wondering if this is the OEM piece?
Hey Jeff!...yes sir, the Bushwackers are what Toyota uses for their “OEM”...if you ordered flares through Toyota these are what you would get...thanks for watching!
How did you cut the paint protection film? The 6"x72" is enough for all flares?
I cut it into strips, just eyeballed it so I had enough to do all 4 flares with the 6x72, and had some leftover it I remember correctly!…if I had to guess I cut them into strips that were maybe 1”-1.5” wide, hope that helps!
Great detail! Great Video!
thank you!!...I appreciate that!!
Don't see any links in description. Flares look great on the truck. I bet they cost a lot getting them paint matched.
I'm sorry Joe!...just updated the info with the links, hope it helps!...and thanks for the feedback!!
Just got mine in the mail but there isn’t those two black pieces that you first installed in your wheel well… the “included parts” list doesn’t mention them either, I’m hoping they have created a new system and not “I’m missing parts” 😬
Yea it’s been awhile, hopefully they updated the parts and you’re good to go!…lemme know how ya make out with the install!
Is that a brand new truck? I've never seen inside the fender wells look so clean
I actually bought it in October of 2019 (it's a 2020 Platinum)...as ya can tell, I'm a little anal with keeping my truck in good shape...hahaha
Will it fit my 2021 tundra?
because apparently they are not yet available for this year.
Yes sir, they will fit...Toyota didn’t change anything on the body for 2021 so you’re good!
Where did u buy ur color matching fender flares from?
Hey Trace!…got em from autoanything.com, they sell em paint matched (or at least they did when I bought mine)…watch for sales, every now and then you can grab em 20% off!
Did bushwhacker paint them for you is the color spot on?
I ordered them painted from Bushwacker, and yes sir, the color was spot on!
What tires are you running? Do the tires sit flush underneath the fender flares?
They’re 20x9 +12 wrapped in 35x12.5 Kenda Klever RT’s...yea they sit just about flush with the flares, thanks for watching!
@@NitroZ18Fishing Curious what your thoughts are on the tire and handling/road noise? I've never heard of this tire but started researching them after seeing your video. Seems they're a good priced tire and 12 ply might be a plus if you're towing. We've got a '18 limited and I'm looking forward to doing your exact setup. Are you having any alignment issues with the kit? Any feedback is appreciated..
hey Kevin!...I absolutely love em, if you haven't seen it, I posted a video talking about these tires a couple weeks ago...they're the best all around tire I've ever ran...quiet and smooth for such an aggressive pattern, I won't hesitate to buy them again when it comes time, and that 12ply is a great plus to have with towing my boat!
sexy looking truck bro
Thanks man, I appreciate that!...she’s my baby that’s for sure!...hahaha
This fits my 2021 platinum tundra?
Yes sir, they fit 2021’s as well
How did you black out your platinum emblem?
I used Plasti Dip, over a year now and still holding up perfect!
@@NitroZ18Fishing I kind of figured that. Does it hold up to pressure washing etc? Did you get overlays for the 4x4 or platdi dip that too?
yepper, I use my pressure washer every time I wash her...which is a lot...hahaha...and the 4x4 is actually a replacement...that's the only one I didn't dip
links???
I'm sorry, I just updated the info section!
It is truly pathetic that we are now expected to buy a $130 roll of tape to protect our paint from the poorly designed fender flares that all these companies are peddling. The flares I had on my '01 F250 were attached at the top of the flare with 3M double sided tape. They were still perfect after 16 years of use.
Now we're supposed to get excited about poorly designed flares and $130 rolls of tape that require installing, removing and reinstalling the flares to add the way overpriced tape which may or may not work in the long term.
