    NIHIL!!
Edit(3/26): Clarifications on the video. Thanks to everyone who pointed out certain ideas and confusing bits in the video:
First, the origin of the omens with the Loathsome Dung Eater, this at best is a theory and I'll be honest a pretty weak theory from me, I included it because there really just isn't that much solid written down in-game information about how the first Omens came to be. The only ones I could find were all the Omen related stuff with Dung Eater (Seedbed Curse/His Armor/His Dialogue) he also states that he has killed thousands, so he's been at this for a while.
Second, the opening cinematic where Morgott was fighting what looked like a soldier in Radahn's armor. I believe that this is simply a champion of Radahn or something similar. I didn't feel the need to hyper focus on that because that's the only scene we have of that moment and there's no item descriptions that talk about that. So I left it at "He killed countless champions".
oh and 1 last thing, the Dung Eater is NOT an anti-hero, he's twisted beyond sanity. But hey as you can see in my profile picture, I have horns too, maybe I'm an Omen~~~
    Thank you!

If you read a bunch of the incantation descriptions along with the weird tumor thing you can get from the Albinauric village you're given a pretty clear picture of what Omens are. They're people blessed by the primordial source of the Erdtree's power. The "Primordial Crucible" which is basically pure chaotic life energy. The horns grow on them like tumors, and beings touched by the crucible grow weird mouthy tails like the one Margit has, or the ones the Crucible Knights copy when they do the tail spin miracle attack at you. The descriptions also say that in the past, when the Erdtree was recently discovered, people marked with these growths, horns and tumors were considered blessed by the Erdtree. They were seen as marked by the power of life itself, but over time, as civilization took hold and people began to abandon the old, shamanistic worship of the Erdtree in favor of an organized religion, marks of chaos became stigmatized and hated by the people of the Lands Between. As a result they started killing, hunting or otherwise shunning and hiding these people away.
Again, wanna say that this isn't a theory I made up, but is actually what you can find in item descriptions for the game. In the past the people of the Lands Between were in touch with chaos and raw life energy but over time became more organized and started shunning people who bore the "blessings" of their old faith. Kind of sucks honestly. If Margit/Morgott and Mohg had been born hundreds of years ago they'd basically all have been treated like Prophets or Saints.

This is spot on, I have been spreading the same information whenever I see lore speculation on The Crucible or Omen not making the connection. The Crucible talismans mention that aspects of The Crucible showing up are a sign of "devolution" and the Misbegotten have been enslaved for somehow making contact with The Crucible and gaining some of its aspects. The Omen are a sign that the Erdtree is making mistakes in the eyes of the nobility, for even children of the Eternal Queen can be "cursed" with these aspects from birth.
The Crucible being life in its primordial form is most likely the oldest form of life we know, Ancient Dragons. Scales, horns, tails, wings, fire breath. I also speculate that Beasts are primordial life as well, the Misbegotten sure do seem incredibly beastial..

Actually I feel like Morgott has been released from the sewers WAY before the Shattering. We know that Godfrey cared about him so he had to be out of there at the time when Godfrey was still waging war against the Giants since the moment he won was the moment he was banished. He also created Sentry Torches after Godwyn's death at the hands of Black Knives and gave them to the forces of Leyndell which shows that he was at that point already at a pretty high level of power. Mogh on the other hand was kept in the sewers to guard the Three Fingers most likely.
I also have a theory that Morgott in fact really cared about Godwyn and Godwyn about him. Godwyn was described as someone who was ready to befriend dragons who were enemies of Erd Tree at the time so it's not that much of a stretch to think that he didn't care about Morgott's curse either and truly loved him as a brother.
And then he was killed and his death had quite an impact on Morgott who then made torches that were meant to reveal assassins who killed him. It's also possible that Rykard took the blame for Godwyn's death as a part of the deal with Ranni for Blasphemous Claw and because of that Morgott launched an attack on him, this was Rykard's Blasphemy and this is why he mentions Rykard with more spiteful tone than the other Demigods. He thinks he killed his only family member that loved him. Really depressing.

And he kinda reminds me of Gwyndolin, a neglected and mistreated son simply because of the nature of his birth, who wanted to be loved and accepted and despite the wrongdoings they endured, fought tooth and nail to uphold the order of their parents. Seeing himself as a failure, never forgiving himself for something beyond his control, yet honestly and truly serving as a great and valiant defender of his home and bloodline, who just couldn’t see past the circumstances of his birth. Rather than having his cursed name tied with the Erdtree, Capital, and the throne, I believe Morgott had wanted to keep a low profile when he wasn't actively governing the Leyndell Capital, which is why he subtly changed his name to Margit. This can be evident from Gideon Ofnir's dialogue when giving information about Morgott. He refers to Morgott as Lord of Leyndell, meaning that it may be widely known that whoever has control of the Capital is someone named Morgott. Gideon also states that "The Veiled Monarch can wait" meaning that nobody knows who Morgott is or what they look like. Though you could still definitely be right about Morgott not wanting his Omen cursed name publicly associated with the Capital. Morgott is a high profile name, meaning that he could potentially be hunted down by any Tarnished or even by the other shardbearers. Margit though, is an unknown name. Name of an Omen, and one of a championed warrior who is at Stormveil Castle guarding the weakest shardbearer, Godrick the Grafted.

I got a theory on what omens might be; since omens are born at random, it's possible that the souls of beings who were cursed during their previous lives ended up possessing the bodies of fetuses before the greater will granted them a soul. (since the dung eater says that cursing and defiling his victims prevents their souls from being "returned" to the erdtree). to further extrapolate on that, it could also be that tarnished are those borne without receiving their soul from the greater will, as well as those who fall out of favor with the erdtree like we see with Godfrey.

Everything about him is incredible: the voice acting, the design, the boss arena, the lore, the actual mechanics, the OST… just incredible. You genuinely can’t be overlevelled when fighting him. If you don’t pay maximum respects when facing him, you’ll get your ass kicked, especially if you don’t take advantage of both tools the game gives you earlier in the game to help you out.

Varre speaks fairly plainly, while Ranni talks like a character from a 60's Thor comic. I wonder if its more complex than that. I have to start paying attention to who speaks in what way going forward.

The OST for the sewer mohg boss fight is called “omen illusion”, which confirms your theory. It seems a lot of characters are able to create illusions of themselves in other places. I think margit has done that multiple times, and we know for certain both the dung eater and Sellen have done it. I’m still wondering why mohg wants to protect the flame of frenzy. Is the outer god of frenzy linked to the formless mother? Or is the flame of frenzy so dangerous that even mohg is worried about it?

The Frenzied Flame is effectively anti-life. All it wants is to destroy everything. All life, the world itself. Anybody who has a dream for the future that isn't just empty, barren flame has incentive to keep people away from the Three Fingers and the Frenzied Flame. Given that he grew up in those sewers, and would likely be aware of the Three Fingers, and given that Mohg has dreams of a royal dynasty, I think it makes sense that he would try to stop you from unleashing the end of the world.

The Dung Eater's role in relation to the Omen is confusing and debatable. The indication of having "the soul of an Omen without the body to match" wouldn't make a lot of sense if he predated and was the sole source of their origin, and if Godfrey recognizes Morgott personally, it's likely Morgott would have been born before the Tarnished were cast out, and be older than the Dung Eater.

    • @beniron5807
      @beniron5807 2 роки тому

The Omens blood negatively effects the Erdtrees. The jars collect bodies (and souls probably) to dump at the roots of the trees to feed the trees. So Omen can not be used as fertilizer like everyone else. So likely what that line means is that the Dung Eater's very existence is to bring down the trees and the order with them. Even if his body is not the poison to the trees that true Omen are. That's why he curse people with Omen blood so more Omen are born. His realization is him sacrificing himself to bring down the entire order and the weird ass alien celestial farm they got going on. Marika's family is nothing but super powerful farmers given power to keep order while the alien celestial god drains the planet of it's life source. That's my theory anyway. The Craziest dude is actually the only one who understands the truth and wants to protect the world.

He doesn't mentioning Mogh in Lyndell is likely because of two reasons:
      1. He only mentions the demigods that had a throne within Lyndell which Mogh doesn't has.
      2. Just like any Golden order fanatic he pretends omens don't exists and intentionally casts his brother aside and isn't even aware of his actions.

  • @pondrthis1

Why is Morgott titled "The Grace Given?" This seems pretty important to cover. The game repeatedly says that Omens are denied Grace. If we interpret "Grace Given" to mean that he *was* granted Grace despite being an Omen, then we might be led to believe that Morgott's choice to defend the Erdtree was guided by Grace. But this opens up a HUGE can of worms.
If Grace leads us to subjugate Marika and Radagon and become Elden Lord, why would Grace lead Morgott to defend the Erdtree and, importantly, to declare the other demigods as traitors? I suppose we can see it as the Greater Will pushing all great rune holders to fight for supremacy, but I don't know why he would then hold such disdain for the other demigods.
One possible answer for which there's no evidence: the Greater Will, unable to directly guide the mind of Morgott due to his Omen curse, used his love for Marika and the Erdtree to manipulate the king into joining the War of the Shattering. But then, this still wouldn't warrant the title "Grace Given"--unless it's meant as a mockery, which would be truly sad for such a noble man.
EDIT: Another possibility is that he's meant to be the "Grace-Given," with a hyphen. Meaning someone placed in the Lands Between by direct intervention of the Greater Will... which means Omenhood is from that particular Outer God.

On my second playthrough I beat Morgott at the base of the erdtree, where he dies and sheds his omen curse, before battling him near the wall. That would lead me to believe that the latter isn't really Morgott either. He appears there in the same way that a slave in Limgrave turns into a giant bear. On the more serious note, I have a theory on what is the source of the Omen curse. While items directly connected to them do not say anything on the matter, the concept of people being persecuted and hounded for various “defects” is described in the Scale, Feather and Knot Crucible Talismans. Said Crucible is described in the Crucible Tree and Axe sets as the “primordial form of the Erdtree” and, apparently, source of all life. Maybe the omen curse is the remnant of it, like the budding horn and the old fang are described to be?

I originally cast the word 'Omen' to mean in the actual meaning of the word, a prophecy of sorts, more often used in a negative sense. Margit was an ill omen of Morgott to anyone daring to challenge his authority.

what's the lore on those giant arrow type things that litter the battlegrounds? in the cutscenes they seem to spew out some kind of "smoke". who or what fires them too, the giant golems archers arrows seem to be much smaller.
