Oh god, this just reminds me of when I wound up joining an alliance and we decided to try and take on the Fort of the Damned. This was back during the Return of the Damned adventure. I was sailing towards Shipwreck Bay to hand in artifacts, and to my dismay found not only an Ashen Winds event happening on the island but a Reaper sloop heading my way. As such, I buried the collector’s chest I had put the artifacts in and then circled around the island a bit to see what happened. Much to my surprise, once I got close again after they anchored they asked if I wanted to join an alliance. I took them up on the offer and helped them take out the event. Afterwards, I suggested we try out the FotD (mainly because I had never tried it before) and they were all for the idea. Fortunately, due to the event, we could collect the flames easier and we still had a ritual skull from the Ashen Winds event. As we were fighting the waves of skeletons at the Fort, another sloop pulls up… and the Reaper sloop convinces them to join in and adds them to the alliance. A few more waves later and a freaking *galleon* starts heading our way, leading us to set up our ships so we could get a good broadside on them if we needed to. Communications unfortunately broke down with the galleon (if they even started to begin with), which led to one of the more insane fights I’ve had in this game. Two solos sloops and a duo sloop fighting a galleon, meaning we were evenly matched in cannons and crew. The difference being that, as sloops, we could circle around them with ease hitting them from three directions at once. After we managed to sink them, we grabbed the loot and decided discretion was the better part of valor and ran to the nearest outpost to sell what we already had (especially since the galleon had spawned at Reaper’s Hideout and decided to raise the emissary flag). In my defense, *I* didn’t have the emissary flag up meaning I technically wasn’t a member of the Runner’s Bones. We managed to sell a chunk of the loot before the galleon was back on top of us. This lead to us just dumping the rest of the loot off on the island while the Reaper sloop drew them off. Fortunately, we only had to deal with one of the galleon pirates trying to stop us from selling the loot and afterwards we went right back to fighting the galleon. Unfortunately, they actually managed to sink the other two ships of my alliance during the fight. Only reason I got away after that was because a freaking meg spawned on them. We never did get to finish the Fort of the Damned… but luckily for me, nobody had found the artifacts I had left behind. Definitely one of the wilder sessions I’ve had
Your ability to tell a story of your adventures in this game has inspired me to buy and play this game after being on the wall about it for so long. Can't wait to get home and try it out now.
I've had a really exhausting day today (not a bad one but just had a lot of stuff to do). Now finishing it off with this absolute banger of a video is really nice! Thank you Cliff!
Me and my wife just restarted playing a few weeks ago. It's her first time and I'm returning from back before the Jack Sparrow event was announced, that being said, your content has been a back bone of information and entertainment for us ! We're counting down the days until we run into you somewhere out there on the seas !! Heres Hoping !
Love it when you get random encounters like this, my last one was when I decided to go and see if I could sink a reaper 5 galleon as I fancied my chances due to their poor navel. Ended up chasing them across the map until another galleon showed up as they had been sunk by the reaper before. We chased the reaper until we sank it and after that decided to go and do glitterbeard after finding a 2 man reaper sloop. It was the perfect end to a really good session. Great video man!
the mental image ya get from the brief interaction you see from the galleon crew. they start a big alliance, get into a crazy battle with this other galleon when suddenly the whole alliance is gone, things aren't looking good and suddenly the solo slooping merchant they got to join at the start arrives out of no where like a piratical rhohirim to knock out the sail , throw down their anchor and board buying you all time and the ability to manuver that you need to win. the reaction they had to our utter madlad in cliff is 100% on point
Best session I ever had was on a Galleon, my crew hadn’t all been together on the same Galleon before but we were all experienced with Galleons and had a great time learning to work together. After several hours of various quests and occasional world events, a Skelly Fleet appeared in our way to the Reaper’s Hideout. So we decided to do that before logging off…. Every single ship in the server showed up. Another Galleon, two Brigantines, and two Sloops all rolled up one after another. There were multiple Skeleton ships now too, so probably 9 ships total all blasting everything in sight. We sunk 5 Skelly ships and 16 player ships, they all just kept coming back. It took them nearly an hour to finally sink us and by that point everyone’s loot was long gone, but it was the best battle I’ve ever been a part of.
I never comment on basically any youtube video but I discovered your content today and I would just like to say alongside everybody else, it is completely incredible. Super engaging, great editing, great story telling, and by far for me the best SOT youtuber i've come across in a while. Thank you for this goldmine of content.
Damn that looks like one heck of a session, gotta love the feeling of making actual friends over the course of a journey together! This is the heart of why sea of thieves is a great game
This is truly the kind of session i live for especially as a solo sloop. Being this wild x factor in a big multi ship battle is exhilarating(bonus points for krakens, megs, skelly ships and storms) the pure chaos is something i think you need to experience before u can truly call yourself an experienced pirate.
Another exciting tale by Cliff. :) I had a situation a few weeks ago were one minute I was minding my own business doing a tall tale and ten mins later, I found myself with all 5 ships on the server floating in a circle with bowsprits pointing at each other. It was quite the sight for a swabbie. :) I noticed a spot where a player said "our harpoon is broken". I had that happen to me the other day. Shooting the harpoon fixed the problem.
Hi Cliff, thanks for all the moments when you made us laugh, cheer, celebrate, sit in the edge of our seat and more, 2022 was an amazing year for not just me but for all of us. Thank you Cliff :) Happy new year
This. This right here is what this game is all about. Organic alliances, good sports, ship to ship combat, boarding combat, and just all around good fun. And the best part? The only salty thing in this entire video was the sea of thieves itself. Perfect.
Your gameplay can be converted into a movie… a tale of being alone, forced to join an alliance, making friends with that alliance, making a new enemy, losing to your enemy, then resurfacing and crushing your enemy… and finally gaining your flag that you wanted from the beginning but with a few friends at your side… now that’s a story.
I remember when I had become pirate legend me and my friends got an alliance of 6 galleons ( including us) and we were trying to get a server alliance and this one reaper embecary galleon wouldn’t join and started firing at us while they were anchored so all six of our galleons surrounded them and anchored and just opened fire with all 4 cannons on each ship dumping a total of 600 cannonballs per ship into this poor reaper embassy and I felt bad for them but the sheer amount of cooperation in out alliance made it feel so amazing and funny at the same time 😂

Just broke my arm 3 days ago and can't play SoT right now so I appreciate these stories more than ever! Thanks Cliff!
Damn, this felt like an entire movie
CLIFF i have been a sea escapade for 100 hours so far and i am confident in saying i am horrible at this game, but your videos have inspired me to create the ultimate time bomb: somehow sneaking a powder keg onboard a vessel and placing it next to the stove, then placing a coconut on it to put their vessel on a timer >:)
additionally playing an instrument to distract them and also to cover up the cooking noise
i love this, i dont play this game but he narrated it to were i understood what was happening and kept it entertaining, well done mate :)
wow this is definitely your best video yet, so much action
