I binged watched New Amsterdam and just saw the last episode. I like that Max decided to stay by himself and focus on being a dad more. They tell single moms they should take time to focus on their kids "be mother's first" so why not expect the same from a single dad. Also I expected Max to confront Helen and get some closure, having him stare at her from a distance and not confront her for me it showed that he still loved her he wasn't over her and Elizabeth was a more easy option.
The end wasn't really what I was expected for. Max suffered a lot, his wife was already a great lost for him and Luna. Conquering the cancer and fighting for his patients and falling in love with Helen finally I thought was a good closure for the guy. But this end it wasn't for sure the one what we wanted and waited for!!!
I like the twist at the end!
However, I still can't believe these writers didn't find a way to bring Helen and Max together. They are meant for each other. Elizabeth's character was well developed, but the love connection was not there. I just never felt chemistry between them.

Idk. I'm still unhappy about Helen and Max not being together. However this was a nice ending. And for Max to find out that it was Helen who made that call in a desperate attempt to save his life. She willingly did something that could save him. And for wilder to point that out to him almost made me think that he would give Helen another try but wishful thinking 😩😂 but I did like that we saw adult Luna who is now the medical director of the same hospital. It was a beautiful ending.
When little luna is closing her eyes and seeing the doctors interact, really got me all teared up, thought of my kids who are still little, whos time being small is surely only brief. A sweet ending.
Max showed me that no matter how life is hard never give up😢
Season 5 wasn't the same without freema, that was a love story. I was disappointed.
Wow! This is a great show until season five. Max and Helen, not being together Made me sad, the chemistry between them was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. They should’ve asked her to come back for season 12 and 13 that way they could’ve finished there story with both of their happy endings. They could’ve went to Switzerland together.
It was a beautiful ending in the sense that it attempt to close the chapter on a lot of characters, leaving them at a good place. And I do love what they did with Max’s daughter. I wasn’t expecting that plot twist at the end ngl. But the problem was that everything seemed so rushed. They needed another episode to explain Max’s decision to leave. I literally watched the episode with my mother on a streaming service, and had to do a double take because I thought we missed an episode. It didn’t make any sense as to why he suddenly decides to leave. Hell, I wasn’t even sure where he was going until the end. It just seems so random considering just the episode before he was with Liz. Honestly am willing to bet that they kept it so rushed and open with Max because the fans were so divided on him being with Liz (and although I love her their relationship definitely was rushed). But it’s kind of disappointing that they want us to believe that the one place Max tried so hard to save he’s suddenly fine with giving up. Needed another episode or two to sold me over, to even show us the struggles of being a single parent and medical director (cause let’s be honest low key all of us forget about Luna). Giving it a 6/10. Beautiful ending but the season did not prepare us for it which is why it didn’t work
I don't know where else I can leave a comment, so I thought I'd find a way, anyway, so here I am...this was such an amazing ending. I do not like spoilers, so I had no idea!!! This was so amazing. I've watched this show all the way through and love it so much. Sad to see it end. This ending, seriously a culmination of why this show was so amazing and powerful. It touched on all of our life's struggles and didn't sugar coat what it's like to live and to be real. Pregnancy, abortion, illness, cancer, mental illness, Covid 19, LGBTQ, financial hardship, drug abuse, race and equality, women's rights, sex trafficking, on and on. I've worked in Healthcare as a Social Worker for over 20 years and know firsthand the struggles healthcare workers face every day and appreciate how this show did not stigmatize the real struggles people face every day. Yes, healthcare is big business too so to go against that head-on is a true struggle. This ending was true...we need to think back to why we chose our profession. Me, was because as a child I suffered from horrific child abuse and told myself that I would help those who could not help themselves because no one was there to help me, and that's what I did.

I am so happy Luna ends up the director of the hospital, years later after father Max. Elizabeth was right, Luna returns, in future.
Same, they need to start a new series where it shows Luna working as the new medical director and they go into the past and show max and what happened when he left the hospital
It was a decent episode. Maybe I missed something. But I felt, Max deciding to leave, in the last episode. Was very random and felt. Like it came out of nowhere. I did like the little twist. With seeing a grown up Luna though. Just thought we might find out. If him & Elizabeth got back together. I didn’t get why they broke up. Unless where he went to work. Was in another city?
His new job is in Geneva in Europe definitely not very close to New York ! I don’t see it as a break up even if I think they won’t keep in touch cause with the distance it would be frustrating. No matter how long Max stays away he will eventually come back and she will be there, at least that’s how I see it. Because I don’t think you can move on from a love like theirs.

@@eldudereno204 It definitely comes out of nowhere but personally I knew that the only way to do a full circle on Max characters he had to leave NA to focus on his daughter that was the only ending that made sense so I wasn’t shocked at all. However I can understand how it felt rushed.

From season 1 to 5 ... i expect that the writers make way for blooms attraction to reynolds .. and i think reynolds is attracted to bloom hold back bcoz she is white... i think the writers shud play further wid this plot. But sadly did not hehhehe

I’m pretty sure they said they had a 5 year deal for the show and had cancel it when the 5 years was over.
I wasted $25 to purchase season 5 on Amazon prime because Netflix ended on season 4 and I desperately wanted to see if Helen and Max ended back together. I was disappointed. I need my $25.00 back !

I agree..it would have been nice for Luna to say and my Dad and Mum reunited..because Max said that he had waited his whole life for Helen..and they loved each other desperately...so I only watched seasons 1-4..and the last two episodes of season 5...I guess everyone has their opinion...mine is that Max and Helen reunited when he left.😊

Creo que lo mato a la serie aparte del covid, fue la repentina relación de max con helen a mi parecer no hubo mucho desarrollo, como el de Elizabeth y el, pero también por meter mucho la propaganda de la comunidad del arcoiris, la serie dejo ese final abierto con luna como la nueva directora, pero dudo mucho que quieran continuar con ello.

i am a sucker for romance. I think the ending for max and ellie love story was nailed by the writers wid max personality it goes they will decide for there future. The writers shud focus on dr. Bloom and dr. Reynolds love story i see onscreen chemistry there... with reynolds opinion about love and blooms haywire personality.. ya know opposites attracts. Its a match made in fiction.. tho they say REFORMED RAKES MAKES BETTER HUSBAND/WIFE and i say it is really true in real life.

You have to buy each episode and the 12 and 13 makes no sense to me is just Like a story oh headline I don't really understand how it end up like this am so sorry the author need to do something let him bring back the story line and end Helen she work so hard to make this movie great but her name and her face did not show so said this can never be a true life story 😢 💔 😞 😔 💙
They did the same thing with Grey's Anatomy, and a few other series, they get us interested in them, and then, put the last season on a network that we have to pay for each episode

From the very beginning the max and helen love story was wrong.... the way helen says to karen that max personality does not fit in her OC world. But then she makes a room for there love.. from the beginning helen has a crush on max but max is married and so in love with georgia. As a viewer from season 1 to 5... i know everyone will be disappointed if i would say there is No onscreen chemistry between max and helen... its diff if the scene was with georgia and max. also the storyline in season 3 was not dynamic anymore and i think some actors does not fit or did not give justice to the characters they are portraying, these are my opinion why the rating went low. Idk if you will agree or not. This is my opinion 😊🎉

The last Episode of Season 4 was the beginning of the end of this series as a wonderfully rich, well written and well acted and produced show/film.
It was so disrespectful to viewers who don’t speak sign language or Spanish to not have subtitles.
Now in retrospect I wonder if the writers strike had been beginning at that time.
I certainly support the writers, actors, production people PAs for their necessary and significant contribution to our culture as we journey thru our human evolution..
At least, I hope that’s the direction we are going in.
So I just needed to say that because watching the series up until that very last scene of Season 4 had been very compelling.
Then it sucked.

AGREED! I will NEVER watch Season 5. I have to imagine that one day Max and Helen will reunite in Geneva. I am content with my own closure to a beautiful and loving couple. Throughout the series, Helen said she wanted to be a Mom. The ending that I've created for them in my mind is that she finds out she is pregnant with Max's baby and decides to remain in London. Knowing how much she loved Max, she knew that Max needed to stay in New York at NA. It is where he belonged, and she needed to stay in London. She knew that if she told Max she was pregnant, he would return to London. She gave up the man she loved for the greater good. She sacrificed a life with him, because she felt he deserved to be happy. Before she left to go back to London, she told him to stay at NA, and fight for their legacy; their friends and colleagues, and then come back to London to her. He did fight, and the beast Fuentas did resign. But, Max didn't keep his promise. He wanted Helen to give up her position and return to New York, but he forgot what she told him, that she needed to go home FOR GOOD. Initially, she said she would go back, and they would get married. Helen always wanted to plan her own wedding. She dreamed of getting married in one of London's castles until her mean-spirited mother ruined that fairytale dream. Now she was being dictated to by her friends, colleagues and Max to have her wedding on a rooftop that carried some good, but often painful scenarios for her and Max. The rooftop was a place of escape for them, a place to refocus, and make sense of all the craziness. No one was taking into consideration Helen's feelings of getting married on a rooftop where she and Max would connect on a professional and emotional level. The rooftop was where Helen and Max broke up their doctor/patient relationship. I feel that Max was asking Helen (like he did Georgia) to give up their life in London to make him happy in New York. If she did, would her fate be like Georgia, where she becomes a shadow in his life. Remember, after Max and Helen spent the night together at her place, she told Max, "I need to go home for good, or else you will bring me down". She really wanted to make it work with Max, but Max always wanted everything his way. Helen said it, "it's who you are, Max, so I have to triage". Her saying NO to that rooftop wedding was her making a bold decision to triage once again. What did Max do, he mourned Helen like he did Georgia, and then found comfort in the arms of another woman, Wilder.
Helen is still a woman of strength because she had the courage to save herself from losing herself completely in Max's world. By saying NO to that quick fix rooftop wedding, she saved her life.❤️
