  • Archaeologists and local historians document the War of Independence ambush at Ballinclare Co. Kerry
Archaeological Management Solutions Ltd. (AMS), who carried out Archaeological Works on the N86 Ballynasare Lower to Annascaul & Doonore North to Ballygarret Road Improvement Scheme in Co. Kerry, have undertaken a licenced metal detection survey at the site of the 1920 Ballinclare Ambush (just west of Annascaul Village).
AMS produced this film in partnership with Kerry Co.Co, to showcase this work and provide an historical context to the site. Local historian, Noel Ó Murchú (author of ‘War in the West’), and the landowner of the field in which the ambush took place, John Hanafin, were invited to contribute their own perspectives on the events of the day.
The metal detection survey identified a number of metal finds across the site including buttons, a lead buckle, a lead bag seal, and other objects. Although we cannot definitively link these to the ambush itself, the survey offered a fantastic opportunity to further investigate and record this historic site in advance of road construction.

The metal detection survey was carried out in accordance with a licence issued by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

If Ireland didn't join the Roman Empire there would have been no problem. Rome has nothing in common nor is connected geographically in any way with Rome.
Adopting Rome as the center of their religion(that's right, give your head a shake) meant they turned their back on the Isles and betrayed the long cultural traditions all the Isla shared.
That they would fight and die for a poser in Rome is a mystery.
