David Grissom is "da bomb". 45 year player myself and he's right up there with Hendrix in my book. One of the great players of my generation without a doubt......
All these comments! Anyone with any knowledge of blues based guitar would know he's a really good player. Todd rundgren, Robin trower, Stevie Ray Vaughn, David Gilmore, all great blues based guitar players. Listen to these Giants and then listen to grissom. The guy just has it in spades. I only recently discovered his work, but he's very impressive. Really nice to hear someone new I hadn't previously heard before. Great feel and technique.
Very few guitarists can tackle a Hendrix tune and really do it justice. SRV was one, and Grissom is another. I've seen him many times with Joe Ely and now he's doing great things as a bandleader in his own right.
If you aren’t familiar with Rich Williams or Kerry Livgren, you might want to give some of the deep Kansas cuts a listen. In particular, the second and third LPs.
DG will go down with the greats. One of the few players who is instantly recognisable within a few notes. Accusing DG of lacking soul and feel is the most ridiculous thing I've heard.
clembo3rc this is literally the first I have heard him... this clip. Fuckin’ great! Love his guitar playing. Pretty great version of a very tough song to pull off right! Awesome.
Very Cool Music !! Great Performance !!! A music professor once told me; Do you know how to tell if it’s really good?” I said; “ No.” He said; “ When they say, ‘ Could I hear that again? ‘ and that’s the only way.” Love Ya Man ! Faubus
He's not underrated, his music isn't mainstream and therefore not really known. He's really well know by us musicians and we rate him highly. Gen Pop doesn't know or care. But that doesn't make him underrated. Oh and he has a signature guitar so for that alone he's not underrated
love this cat, always have. there are only two guitar players on earth that you can tell who it is after 5 notes.jeff beck and david grissom, David just gets better with age.He has come a long way with his vocals, hope to see him out touring with this band.
First time listening to D Grissom and love being taken back to the 70s. Listening to him because of the spec to his guitar with split coils. I love his style. More into jazz fusion, but like Robin Trower blues, the British hendrix.
Recently discovered David on utube, I'm super impressed!! As a player myself, my three fave players are Todd rundgren, Robin trower , and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I now have a fourth!!!
My 2010 PRS DGT is my 3rd favorite guitar, right behind my McCarty 594, and McCarty sc594. My DGT looks just his, except for its has birds and not dots.
US made PRS' are modern classics IMHO. As you hear on this clip they just ooze tone and they play like a dream. I've had a CU24 for 2 years now and it's my main gigging axe. I still love my Gibbys and Fenders of which I own many but the PRS is the most versatile and playable axe I've ever owned. I can totally see why Grissom would use one.
Question for anyone who knows. Is this David Grissom and a younger lead player, named David Grissom, in 1984 played with Lou Ann Barton ? Did "Hip Shake Baby". ??? Look like they could be. ??? If so, Wow!!
It's ridiculous to see people critique musicians for NOT being Hendrix: DG is great in his own right, but this is obviously not the BOG - but who is? Who Knows...
An awesome bit of energy!! Too bad I can't find other Grissom songs that nearly compare - apparently he needs a little leverage to put it up to this level but thankfully he did here and if this is as good as it gets then I'll take it
I can't believe how many idiots are dissing this... Mark Hollingsworth is sadly missing what it's about. It's not about Jimi, it's about David Grissom. Davids guitar on this sounds better than the Hendrix version (RIP Jimi).
Indeed. A lot of Jimi's songs were frameworks upon which he would build whatever he felt like at the time. I've heard versions by Jimi that are like mighty cathedrals of sound and others that are barely more than tumbledown shacks of noise. As a player if you even attempt to replicate what Jimi did you really aren't getting it. Despite what the DJ says at the end David Grissom is not 'channeling the spirit of Jimi Hendrix' he is building his own edifice on Jimi's framework. Given that he's in a small room with no audience to feed off of he makes something pretty good here. As for comparing guitar tones, if David had used a univbe for this I might have agreed with you but without that pedal his sound is so different to Jimi's classic versions that I can't prefer one over the other(s).
DG is one of my all time favorite guitarists. Disagree 100% with Marc Hollingsworth. The world is full of guitar players that can cover Hendrix. Sure Jimi did his songs first (and no one loves Jimi more than me) but many covers build on Hendrix's originals. This is one. Are the vocals as good as Jimi's? Maybe not, but the guitar work is as good if not better. Just MHO....
Dicen de ti: “Es un Ser humano”. Dicen de mí: “Es un animal”. Y no se han dado cuenta. . . . . . . . Que nuestra diferencia, está en algo muy simple: Tú: Piensas que me quieres. . . . y YO, "Te quiero sin pensar". Gagma.
Scott Nelson on bass, Stefano Intellisano on keys, and Brian Austin on drums. The David Grissom band. Scott is out touring so Chris Maresh is now on bass....
Its the other way ´round. Jimi played stratocaster throughout his career, studio and live. And at RARE occations he played another brand. There is ONLY Stratocasters and Telecasters on his records.
I have been a fan of this excellent guitatist since the 1980s. I warms my heart that he is still amazing.
F'N FINALLY!!
Someone who gets it!
God bless them...it is a team sport!
David Grissom is "da bomb". 45 year player myself and he's right up there with Hendrix in my book. One of the great players of my generation without a doubt......
The bass player has the longest arms in the world!
Nah, he's just got short legs ;-)
You must not know who doug pinnick is.........
and thus the longest strap in the world
He used to play bass for The Tallest Man in the World

Total control. Left and right hand, chords, lines, tone.
OMG, where has he been all my life?! Amazing and just my style. HAMMER heavy blues.

I agree. I'd say D. Bramhall II, too.
.... It has a superb sound ! PRS and PRS amp perfectly
Hendrix will never die - thanks for sharing.
DG will go down with the greats. One of the few players who is instantly recognisable within a few notes. Accusing DG of lacking soul and feel is the most ridiculous thing I've heard.

Band is great too.
I agree😁
He’s not dead yet!
I love my DGT guitar I just purchased. 2012 model
David Grissom is tearing it up! Great performance....
Very Cool Music !! Great Performance !!!
A music professor once told me; Do you know how to tell if it’s really good?”

His tone is just so GREAT!!! the notes and chords he picks are pure David!
Thanks for making comment. Now I don’t have to...
just discovered Dave after seeing his guitar in my mag. Why has it taken me so long - this is just brilliant.
I have always like this mans style and attack. great version from a true guitarist and musician.
He's excellent, and i think underrated by allot of people.
A lot don’t know him to begin with
He's not underrated, his music isn't mainstream and therefore not really known. He's really well know by us musicians and we rate him highly. Gen Pop doesn't know or care. But that doesn't make him underrated.

EdwardVH, Hendrix start that list off

David is a badass guitarist!
Recently discovered David on utube, I'm super impressed!! As a player myself, my three fave players are Todd rundgren, Robin trower , and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I now have a fourth!!!
This bass player use to play with Kenny Wayne Shepard too. His tone is killer and he’s solid!
Edit: and yes the guitar 🎸 tone is epic!
I think if I could play and sound like any guitar player in the world it would be this guy Grissom…so incredibly tasteful….
Awesome tone.
Bartos,Bartos ,have you any cash?
@@Lrat-ey5di hahaha!
Beautiful and wise playing here by Dave.
Makes my life worthy
Super awesome loved it 5 Stars
Grissom is a silent killer…caught him at Saxon pub…..ruthless, tasteful, obtuse leads, and gravy tones!
👍Great version !
Yes sir, this guy can play.
awesome version..
daaaang love the whole package... 🤘🤘🤘
This is awesome.
Love this!
My 2010 PRS DGT is my 3rd favorite guitar, right behind my McCarty 594, and McCarty sc594.
My DGT looks just his, except for its has birds and not dots.
Fantastic!
I dig it.. great job..

David Grissom rendition of Hendrix is really authentic full of soul and spirit thumbs up !
yeaaaaaashhh i love u Dave!!!!!!!
Excelllllllent !
Killer tone
It's ridiculous to see people critique musicians for NOT being Hendrix: DG is great in his own right, but this is obviously not the BOG - but who is? Who Knows...
The BEST thing in this vid is how low the bass players bass is slung... His balls could fret the low E... Thats what Im talkin about!
Damn you're right, that bass isn't far from the ground
I got 2nd hand carpal tunnel watching him
Here’s some real good stuff.
Jesus that bass player is so cool...look how low his guitar is on the strap!!! That guy hit the level cap on how cool you could look with a bass
Never knew who he was dont ask me how but dang he gets geat tone...i get this guy
Yea man !!!! 😍🎸👌🔥

An awesome bit of energy!!
Too bad I can't find other Grissom songs that nearly compare - apparently he needs a little leverage to put it up to this level but thankfully he did here and if this is as good as it gets then I'll take it
Storyville, Live from Antones
Grissom trio live, squawk
This is a very good cover but is light years away from the excitement, the rebelliousness the emotion of the Hendrix original. Listen to the original!
Am I the only one who see Jack Black on drums and Dr. House on the bass?
The drummer is kept behind the glass so he doesn’t kill anyone.

And Diego Maradona on guitar
Hand of God indeed.
Speed to 1.25
Well now I can imagine what stevie would do with this tone.
awesome

"...but the guitar work is as good if not better." as good, not better. "How 'bout the best one sitting in this chair." -JH Dick Cavett show july-1969
As much as I like this cover, I think Hendrix' version is way better guitar wise.
I think that the same people must be commenting on every music video on youtube. Has to be.
The real McCoy!!
If Mick Jagger made a deal with the devil to be insanely good on the guitar ☝️
I also notice he sounds a bit like Jagger:)

Really? Try House Burning Down off Ladyland. That’s a Gibson. Telecaster? Where? Which track?
What Fuzz pedal are you using David?
jack black on drum.. lol
No kiddding, looks just like him!
and is that dhani harrison on keyboard? :P
+moises lopez sure it is man....why don't you go back to smoking your weed and let the rest of us enjoy the music...bro
is that jack black playing drums?
Jack Black on the drums....Yes!! Lol
Is this tuned down 1 whole step?
i like he's playing, but he always looks so sad
listening to what's going on around him,Clapton does it too
The bass player looks like the guy out of breaking bad'
even better than the original.
Turn your guitar up...
