  • In this video, I describe my process to move mixes from the digital domain with Pro Tools (DAW) into an analog Solid State Logic (SSL) console for hybrid mixing.
    Thanks to my clients Andrew Acevedo and Sam Bou from Innakore Entertainment for the permission to use the session for this video.

    Thank you George. I use Pro Tools and just obtained a SSL CDS100 48 Channel Console and beginning the journey to connection and found this very helpful :)

    Great video . Do you do any one on ones ? I would like to get some help with routing my console and making a pro tools template to go with it . I pretty close but something is off with it .

    Great video!
    When you are using effects in the mixing console, is that effect coming from the console? Or are the effects in Pro Tools responding to the pots on the mixer?

    Thinking about buying a ssl origin 34 but I’m not too signal flow savvy when it comes to all the wiring that that board will need 😩 any advice bro ?

    Hi George, I don't understand how you are monitoring your final mix... It's direct from your master bus on the ssl or from the print (post converter).

    • @GeorgeGoire
      @GeorgeGoire  2 роки тому

      Hey, monitoring of the mix is what comes out of the pro tools print mix bus. So it’s post any final mix bus plugins and converter.

      I had the same issue at first. I almost bought the wing, but got a Behringer X32 instead. I run Studio One with it and now I have them in sync. And can do a mix, either in the daw or on the console and then can send everything back into the DAW as a print track... I can use Behringer effects or software plugins. It shouldn't matter, and you don't need an additional interface....

    Are you doing your automation in the box?

    i was I little bit confuse how you do it with the sends. So, tracks go to ssl and come back to PT to the print track. But with the Fx, they have to wait for the ssl sound comes back, and then you rout to ssl 31-32. So, Fx wait four the track then goes to ssl, then goes to print? You don't have problems with latency with the Fx?

      By the way, nice video, would like to see more of this kind. Routing stuff and mixing analog. Thanks and good luck

      Great observation! Yes, it does have latency due to a round-trip AD/DA conversion. The lower the buffer setting in PT, the lower this latency becomes. For me, it’s not an issue to have latency since I use these FX for reverbs only. The cool thing about this small latency is that it acts as a reverb “pre-delay” which I always use anyways. So I get a natural pre-delay on my reverbs from the latency and it works out great! Thanks!

    WOW WOW !! You can control general volume and (main ) (your) headphone (no musician headphones) with ssl in front pallen?

      computer volume ...

    • @GeorgeGoire
      @GeorgeGoire  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, because computer audio, pro tools mix, etc, are sent to different inputs of the console called External B inputs. There are four EXT B inputs which you can choose from and control their monitoring volume with the console.

    If anyone can help me understand this process please feel free to answer me. How could I use a digital console such as a behringer wing in a setup like this? Using the onboard processing for individual channels while sending some channels to reverbs or delays within ProTools? I wouldn't need any interfaces because it would be a USB to USB connection. What's confusing to me is the channels are being sent through your interface then to the console then back to the daw.

    • @aidanbrown2529
      @aidanbrown2529 Рік тому

      You would need an interface. The connection of something like a behringer mixer will not allow you to route out of pro tools into each track of your mixer. in the most basic terms you need a interface with multiple outputs so you can send a track in pro tools to any of those outputs, then send that output to the input of your mixer. Once you do that the output of the track will run to that output on the interface then into the track on the mixer where you mix it and then record it back into the computer. its very weird and Im still not 100% sure how to do it.
