I just discovered your channel and have been in the engineering world for around 7 years in Los Angeles. I am trying to play catch up with your videos and am learning something new, in addition to being inspired, with each one I watch. Thank you for doing what you do. It would be a honor to work with you someday.

Hi! I am just starting my journey in recording.. we’ll officially and professionally! Your videos are awesome. These were things I were afraid of , and you break it down easily. I want a great recording console one day! I wish I could just sit in a room with you one day and just learn your ways!!! Teach me!
Warren, your videos are top notch mate. I'm starting tomorrow a BA Hons Audio Production degree course at SAE Glasgow, and I've been following your vids for a few weeks now, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Well done, thanks!
@@Producelikeapro @Home Studio Simplified Hey, guys! Just checked out this wonderful presentation while trying to get an edge up on Roberts current mix competition of "The Crossroads" by bringing in an SSL plug-in on the Mixbus. Who knew that 5 years ago you two would be collaborating with Roberts Cakewalk series through PLAP and HSS? Anyhow...thanks and love you both!
Very helpful! After watching many of your videos in no particular order, I wondered how outboard gear was brought into a signal path. I use Logic and work mostly in the box so I wasn’t sure how the connections were made on the console side of things. Now I have a better understanding after your explanation of the bus section. I had noticed in your other videos that there was a part of the console with a rectangular grid of things (the bus buttons) I didn’t understand, so the close-up of each section of the console and explanation of how it works was exactly what I wanted to see.
Awesome, Sir Huart! Thanks so much for these great bits! Saving this to my 'Great Mix Tips, etc' playlist to refer to in the interim and for years to come! I have dreamed of mixing on an SSL for many years. Cheers!
Using an Allen&Heath Qu-32 desk for recording and mixing mainly in live situations but using it as my audio interface when I'm in my very humble home studio. This desk is great because it gives me 32x32 audio channels via USB 2.0 so I can record a whole band at once and monitor the recording through the desk .
I know you posted this video over 3 years ago. I think people should see the entire part of the console to include the rack. computer hard drives and cabling as well as the power supplies, and what it takes to run an SSL console or console of that magnitude in a home so they can understand why it takes a while to get them commissioned and decommissioned. And why it takes 5 to 6 people to move one. That would be a great video. As well as the maintenance and support and why these consoles have the sound they have as well as API, NEVE, Helios, Harrison, MCI, and So forth, Basically explain about the transformers and the circuitry. I know this could be a long video. But maybe a basic general overview of the concept of a real console and why its the heart of any commercial studio. Thanks for making great videos.
That is an astoundingly beautiful console. Thank you so much for sharing! We use hybrid mixing here exclusively. This was a much appreciated insight into your method. Top content!
Hi +Piero Lorenzetto Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Glad to be able to help!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
I have a little Berhinger Xenyx, for recoding E drums and guitar with a Dynamic mic. Much simpler than that mix table, but it's still very usefull to know basics about it ! Good job for making it easy to understand !
Warren once again than you so very much for what you do, I always learn a great deal from your videos. I'm considering this digital mixer Soundcraft Si Impact DSP Digital Mixer, your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Warren Outstanding videos,LA hair band rocker turning to recording. Putting together a studio and we need more great videos such as yourself along the lines of routing cables from DAW I.e. pro tools etc. to hybrid console and to analog desk(bought a great soundtrack topaz 24 8 2) I would like to be able to use to full potential. Thanks keep up the great videos
GREAT CHANNEL WARREN ! Thank u so much for your time and knowledge !! It's so educational especially coming from a pro that has worked with plenty of multi platinum artists!! I love hoe you are reaching out to everyone and anyone form every level! a THANK YOU!
Hi Tommy S thanks very much for those kind words! Yes I agree we are all in this together! I Definitely want us to all learn together! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you have a follow-up video or series? Perhaps something where you walk through what you're doing on the console when recording or mixing?
Eventually, all hardware can potentially break down. Do you have back-up gear in case this happens? What repairs do you do yourself, and when is it time to call in a specialist? Thanks for sharing Warren. Love your channel!!!!!
Hi plus.google.com/+AlexSolano I would use the EQ after compression just to do small correctional work. Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Hi great video, I have a question. When sending signal to your SSL, how do you send the signal from your protocols track, direct out to the channel on your SSL or inserts out and return back to protocol? I have a gl3300 mixer, 192 interface 16 channel, I am trying to send my tracks to the Allen heath gl3300 mixer for mix down, but not sure what is the best way to make that connections for best results, can you help me p!please?
Thank you so Very much for the detailed explanation. Warren iz the BEST.!. Thank you for your help, and showing me what to look for in a mixing board / console. This video helped me very much, with the decision to invest in a field recorder instead. In the future I plan to do some recordings of ambisonic/ binuaral, spatial audio.
Great tutorial Warren - you know what baffles me though is why people so often demonstrate gear without routing an actual signal that you can hear and affect - nothing clarifies signal flow like an actual signal! Why not plug in a microphone or line level signal and use that to explain the desk?
Hi Joe Lonsdale thanks for the comment. If you watch my hybrid mixing series ua-cam.com/video/mIshCKxGekI/v-deo.html you will hear each channel being used and the EQ and compression being engaged. Please feel free to explore the channel and see how I cover the point you made. Thanks very much for watching, have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Hi ContraStudio88 thanks for the comment! Definitely will do some more videos on the SSL very soon including more details on bussing and aux. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro On that topic I'm a bit confused about the terms "group" and "bus". Are they the same thing? I was using a small 16 channel studio mixer once that had groups where you could route several channels to a group to control them all with one fader (the group fader). It also had sends and returns where you could route things to external effects. But what exactly is a "bus"?
Hi Niklas Lindholm great question!! A 'Bus' or 'Aux' (as we say in England) is a term used for the signal bing routed to a different destination such as an effects unit or a headphone mix, a group as it suggests is two or more channels that are grouped together. On my SSL for instance the group faders are controlling from 1-8, number 1 the drums, 2 Bass, 3 Electric Guitar Rhythm etc etc. Does that help? Let me know if you have any other further questions. Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
I have a Zoom R16, it is an audio interface with midi control faders! So I can record with it and afterwards use it as a midi interface in pro tools, very awesome!
After careful consideration of needs and budget, I also got a Zoom R24 to includein my setup. It isn't my main recorder (it is for mobile sessions, though) and I am surprised at how much better it is than I expected. Even the cheap preamps don't really add much noise at all until you get to halway up or more. SO much flexibility in the unit....I don't regret it!!
I got everything based on what they offered and how they could all be used together....I like options!! I don't have a large budget and have to be creative when buying gear also. Here is my main setup: I have a Soundcraft Signature 12MTK as main board...Great for the money!! I also have the Zoom R24, which is great for mobile OR studio work. It gives the ability to record and/transfer files via SD card or USB flash drive and also can send straught to computer (Amazing flexibility just here alone)....has the sequencer, rhythm machine, looper..... I have Reaper as my DAW for computer. I can record and then mix 12 tracks with the Soundcraft......or....I can do, say, 24 tracks all through the Soundcraft and then use the Zoom as a 24-track Interface controller. I can transfer files or link usb between Everything....can use Zoom as a recorder from other units to its Sd or usb....and it is iust Amazing!! Anything going to Zoom, I bypass its preamps so they are NO problem quality wise....the soundcraft has good Ghost pre's and I also have outboard pre's. Far too much to get into, but the flexibility is Amazing and I have only just begun learning the stuff. Seems the choices I made were actually good and I have SO many options using all the stuff together....just Fantastic!!
Here is what really interests me and I get different answers depending on who I ask. Do you mix live while you are tracking, or do you like to mix after the fact playing it back through your console?
The best answer for this Ben is record like you don’t need to mix! Capture the sound you hear and mixing will be easy! So many great records come up on the faders sounding like the record!
Hi Waren, your videos are awesome and very educational. I feel like I should be paying some kind of tution for all the stuff I've learned from you. I've noticed that you sometimes gloss over some terms that may be confusing to some folks who are newer to the engineering game, terms like; pad, FET (mics), printing, stems, bus, etc. Is there any way you could include some of these definitions in an upcoming video? Thanks much and keep up the great work.
Hi +Gary Husson Wow thanks ever so much for these incredibly kind words!! I will definitely get a bit more detailed! Thaks for the feedback! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Great Video. I have yet to see an depth video like this (going through the board with such detail) I love the sound of the SSL4000. it just bleeds richness. When I went from Analog to Digital, the thing I missed the most was hands on faders, knobs and buttons. in the late 80's, early 90's we became "The masters of button maneuvering" punching in, using our feet, exc. I have an older Mackie MCU (like the HUI) and it gives me that feeling I used to have when doing analog. I do however, miss the sound of Tape very much. but to be practical, I needed get with the generation. but I still can fill that void I got with slamming the Tape heads, getting that natural compression. thanks for the lesson Warren. You are a God send for me. you've taught me a lot in these videos.
Hey Warren, I started out with the KRK Rokit 6 which I would say is amazing for a beginner. I still see them in the odd pro studio and I know Moog uses them in their QC process for building their synthesizers. I am going to get my second set of monitors and I am going for either the Neumann KH-120 or the Focal CMS-65. I a/b'd them the other day and I'm having trouble deciding.
Hi OldGuitarsNMasonJars, I haven;t yet tried the Neumann's but I do like the Focal's. Maybe try a few others for balance? I use Genelec's and love them! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
i juz wanna ask this question i hope you answer this or anyone reading if u can help im juz curious to know if an artist has his own laptop and wants to hear the audio through the speakers by using his own laptop what is the way that he can connect his laptop and use the ssl counsel too cuz I have seen videos where producer will bring their laptop and hook it up with the counsel and literally they can use the whole counsel and even rec to it too....I dont know how they do it there is no video of it too that's y I'm asking you I hope this makes sense now. Please these information would help alot
i think your videos are terrific. I have been trying to learn the "black arts" for some time and your explanations are the most succinct an concise I have come across. Your "talk to you" and not "talk at" or "talk down" method of delivery is very informative and welcoming. Ok, to my questions - could you please show us how to connect the output from PT to your desk for mixing as you said that's where you do it. Also in your lists of busses on PT you assign things to like bus 22 and 23 - how do you get so many inputs on PT. My I/O interface like you mBox only allows 2 in and 2 out. Do you have a special interface from the SSL to PT? Cheers
Hi KimboH55 thanks for the great comment! I currently use Pro Tools HD interfaces to connect from my computer to the SSL console. I am upgrading my system soon and when I do I will do a video of it. Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it! Warren
Awesome, I bought a DBX 120 after seeing the Joshua Tree tour and learning they were running bass and kick through them. That was an incredible sound system on that tour.
Hi KimboH55 could talk about that, I just wanted to keep it more focused on what everyone is mainly doing, but I will definitely do more expanded videos in the future! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it! Warren
Are the groups on an SSL similar to groups in ProTools? Just to move multiple faders around as one? I just found your channel and I love it!! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Please do more SSL tutorials! I love them!!
HI +JAAM013 That really depends, on mine it's VCA controlled, so it's not an actual group it's just controlling the faders contained in the group. Thanks very much I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren ! Super Video Btw can u make a video or audio disc of "No Regrets" ... Lol...just kidding...I just can never seem to find the time to finish it... Looking forward to the next Vid
Hi Warren, I have a few questions and I am sorry if you answer them somewhere else... I wanted to ask: what type of audio interface do you use? And why do professional producers use both audio interface and a mixing console (while I do not need mixing console at home)? Thanks for answering these questions. Take care!
Thank You very much for this video tutorial.I want to ask you if you have video for the way to set instruments on stage and how to rout them to mixer? If You have how can i get it?
Hey Warren I have a question do you have a Video showing the types of integration for the console into the DAW? I´m curious to know how to wire it up I can´t really figure out a good way to get a console orientated recording AND mixing setup. If you could point out a good video it would be great. Greetings from Germany. ;)
Quite fascinating Warren.. When I mix and bounce to disc in the box, I lose what seems to be so much subtlety, detail and musicality. Does mixing and bouncing to the outside world using a console help mitigate that frustrating and often disheartening problem.?
Hi Allen Smith thanks for the great question! Yes I always listen to my mix on input from the record channels. I have two channels that I record back to Pro Tools, this is left in input and I monitor those channels so what I hear is what the final mix will sound like. I hope that helps! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro Yes. It sounds like there is definately a way to deal with this...now to figure out the ins and outs of it . Thank you very much Warren!
Hi Warren. Can you recommend an analogue console that's musical and "affordable.?" Does such an animal exist? I know a Neve 88 is probably out the question (; Thank you for sharing so much.
Hi Allen Smith what is your budget? This might be a little too much but I believe API has a great product that gives you basic mixing and mic pres apiaudio.com/product.php?id=129 Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thank U for your videos.I am a novice, just starting out and limited in understanding so I will start at the beginning.I have an Allen & Heath zed 22fx analogue mixer.I am using it for home recording.I have two digidesign 192i/o interfaces running protools 10hd.How do U suggest I run the board to the interface.Analogue out of the interface to the board or ??? Your advice will be greatly appreciated...
Warren, Where do you generally Hi Pass Guitars both Acoustic and electric? I have been experimenting with this quite a bit. The trade off for me is getting guitars away from bass low freqs but not over doing it ,as to loose the low end Glue. Typically Im between 100 and 200 hz Depending on the other Bass content in the track.
Hi Shane Gamble I think you're definitely in the right area. The secret for me if using plugins is to make it a gentle slope. I think 100-150 on electrics and 150-200 on Acoustics would work out. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Hey warren, ok so I just graduated highschool and I'm going to be moving to LA soon to go to an audio engineering school. Now before I go out there I kind of want to take some sutble steps in regards to familiarizing myself with the whole audio thing. Would you recommend I just practice recording my friends play their instruments?
Hi +Peerson J. Thrane If you watch my vocal mixing video you'll see some of that ua-cam.com/video/syudb_B1x_A/v-deo.html Thanks very much I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
You're becoming American Warren! 'Routing' pronounced 'Rowting' (USA stylee) as opposed to 'Rooting' (UK Stylee) :-) Great series of vids, I'm learning lots - And when I put it into practice I'll feedback on my experiences!
Hi hydorah Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it and thanks for the comment! Haha interesting when I was in England I would say 'Root' but if I was connecting things I would say 'rowting', might be regional thing! I also say 'Garahge' not 'Garidge' for Garage and 'Pahsta' not 'Pasta'. Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Quick question for you. If you're tracking and Mixng through your console, do you use the dynamics and eq on the way in, reset them then mix after coming back in through the line input or would you just track clean with no processing and leave the processing for the "mix" stage?
After 17 Records I’ve decided to build my own home studio for mainly preproduction and vocals. I wish I had payed more attention in the studio, but recording was always a hassle and I never enjoyed it, so I wasted many great education opportunities. Now oddly enough I want to learn. I am thinking about getting the new Raven MTI2 to run Logic on my iMac. There is so much out there, it’s very overwhelming. If I can get my sea legs I may indulge myself and get the Box or the small 50/60 centerpiece console. What’s your thought on the The Raven? Thanks for all the videos.
Hi I've got a question. at 14:30 your labeling shows you have one channel for kick and snare. What if the kick is recorded from inside and outside mics and snare, from top and bottom mics?. Do you combine them or pre-mix them before the console? Thanks you
Hi Huart! Just want to get your professional opinion. Having a console let's say 32 channel desk, How do you really add plugins like the wave in a console? I mean in the box you have virtually unlimited number of plugins, and you can also add multi layer plugins like Chris Lord-alge plugins. And If you buy a high quality interface with console grade mic-pres such as Audient or antilope, You are sorted with some great mic-pres as well. But if you get a real console, you are stuck with the built-in EQ, compressor and lo/hi cut filters only, Also it needs outboard effects and any other compressors which you need to add colors. So how do you configure a mixing console to really work like a total software-based mixing platform? I am very eager to invest in a mid-scale console, yet not convince about the flexibility, Sorry for the long question!. Thank you!
Midi faders are really awesome compared to the mouse especially if your recording your own vocal and need to lower the gain. There nothing more annoying then grabbing the mouse when performing lol. I use a Novation Impulse 48 keys comes with 8 channel faders, one master fader, 8 rotary knobs, and 8 drum pads. Automation with the faders or knobs is a lot nicer then the mouse. For some instruments I rarely use my X box 360 controller set on absolute for the triggers and analog sticks for wild automation on filters or FM. There is one plug in FL studios called Fruity X-Y Controller that lets you do that and i herd a guy programed a special plugin for ableton Live so he can use his Power Glove from Nintendo for midi automation lol.
Hi blood lord wow thanks! Great tips!! X Box controller, that's great! I really appreciate your comments, it really helps the discussion amongst the community of Engineers, Producers and Musicians! Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Produce Like A Pro Helping others as much as i can is what i like to do. So many things you can learn in music that effects every side of music or occupation in music. Like for faders it makes work flow easier for the musician, singer or the producer and not just the mixer or mastering engineer. I herd one engineer i believe Andrew Scheps said he only lets his engineer apprentices use faders and not the mouse. I thought it was just a luxury thing till i started automating with the mouse and getting results i didn't want and recording the automations over and over again. Sometimes the mouse works for certain quick automations on an effect, but it's always hard for smooth moves.
Hi blood lord I agree the fader is so much easier to feel and control. But I would say that not many people have the luxury of faders, however you have come up with great solutions! I applaud you! Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
cant you also group faders in PTS... command G i think .. select the faders with I believe shift alt? or apple shift.. and then apple+G will group right? rather than sending them to an AUX? I forget most the Macros I DEFINITELY remmeber Apple+Z though haha
Hi Howard Hedger thanks for the great question. Yes I compress on the individual track, then I might send multiple guitars to one aux and then compress them together. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Hey Warren greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Do you prefer to mix using the console or In The Box? another thing I've noticed these days is that the computer monitors were in the center of the console, I now realize that many have placed the computer monitor next to the console. is there any technical explanation for this or is it just a matter of taste? Thanks for your time and videos!
Hey Warren, If you wanted to simulate the signal flow itb with a summing plugin like Slate VCC, would you put that as your 1st insert, or would it be more accurate to place it on your last insert, post fader so when you pull up Faders you're driving the saturation/console in the plugin as well? Thanks!
Hi +andrewssama Great question! Yes although I don't use the Virtual Console Collection it looks fantastic and I would recommend using it first on the chain. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
What are you using to get the 30 (or however many) individual channels out of protools and into the desk? This is where I am stumped...is there any way to do this without an expensive AD/DA converter?
I just bought a Midas M32 and connected to my PC running Pro Tools First. How do I setup my inputs and outputs so I can hear the music and start recording instrumentals and vocals.
output of interface into input mixer, and than u can use all the other outputs of you interface and select them in Protools, to come into your mixer. i think ??
hi warren, i´m Carlos from Brazil and I´m looking forward to get an analogical compressor pre pc, so i can record my tracks with a hotter signal, without digital clipping. BUT, how can I use a compressor with a condenser mic only with my usb audio interface phantom power?? do you have any suggestion? thanks and congratulations for your awsome job!
That’s an amazing question! I have never shot them out side by side! The 4000 has the record for the most amount of hit songs mixed on it, it’s a sound you’re very familiar with to say the least!
Produce Like A Pro I’ve heard mixes from a Duality and sounds big of course, but not as warmth as the 4000. I imagine the AWS sounds similar to the Duality. Is the 9000 similar to the 4000 as well? Cheers!
Great video Warren.I really like your material. Having being brought up with recording in the box I don't really get why you would want a console like that.It really looks like too much trouble and very unwieldy. Wheres the added value in having something like an SSL over a Pro Tools rig.
Hi barry jmccormack Thanks very much for your great question I really appreciate it! Consoles definitely have a sound, they effect the music quite dramatically. However I do agree if you were not brought up on them then you can easily learn to mix really well without them! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren

Great videos. And very useful. The thing I love most however is that you hope I'm doing marvelously well. Keep the vids coming!
Hey Warren, Can't thank you enough for these videos. I'm learning a ton of stuff from your channel!
I have a little Berhinger Xenyx, for recoding E drums and guitar with a Dynamic mic. Much simpler than that mix table, but it's still very usefull to know basics about it !
Good job for making it easy to understand !
Hi Matthieu Oliver thanks for the compliment I really appreciate it! So glad I could help! Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Great video series, thank you for putting these together and sharing with us!
Thanks ever so much
Awesome tutorial Warren. I now better understand the analog console although I've never met one in person.
Love all your videos! I hope you make more about mixing in SSL.
Hi METALDESP thanks for commenting! Yes I will definitely be making more videos using my console! Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Warren once again than you so very much for what you do, I always learn a great deal from your videos. I'm considering this digital mixer Soundcraft Si Impact DSP Digital Mixer, your opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Just caught up with this....thanks Warren. Love a console for mixing especially, it’s hands on and way quicker...for me anyway...than in the box
Warren
Outstanding videos,LA hair band rocker turning to recording.
Thank you so much this helped a lot!!!! You saved my life
Very nice! Congratulations, wonderful channel!!!
you are great! Just scored an internship in a studio with a ssl g series and this is EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!
I've watched a lot of your videos and this one is truly great. A well thought out understandable explanation of your set up and how to use it
Warren- Nice signal flow / desk video-- Nicer desk!!
Haha samusicals thanks very much! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if you have a follow-up video or series? Perhaps something where you walk through what you're doing on the console when recording or mixing?
Love that SSL slam of compression on a mix!
Yes Tom MacDonald 4000 bus compressor is amazing! Have marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
My fave intro to any you tube channel love it.
Aw shucks thanks canvoodoo! Thanks very much for the great comment! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thanks so much! Love your videos ! I would love a SSL console ! So this is perfect !
Fabio Moreira Muchas gracias. Agradezco sus amables palabras. Tener un registro del tiempo maravilloso. Muchas gracias Warren
I really appreciate the time you’ve put to share your knowledge. Just subscribed!
Excellent, thanks Warren!
awesome videos and Explanations!! Could you please make a video more detailed on Mixers and Other components(including your recommend ones)
Thank you so much Warren!
I would love to hear more about routing and buses. It's always seemed like voodoo to me. This info is great, thanks a ton!
Hi funkyboss007 thanks for the comment! Yes I'll definitely discuss that more in other lessons. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
funkyboss007 I agree, would be great to get more details about bussing/aux with a console since I'm getting one soon.
Great video!
Love the videos. Keep em coming.
Thanks teedouble I really appreciate it! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
I have a Zoom R16, it is an audio interface with midi control faders! So I can record with it and afterwards use it as a midi interface in pro tools, very awesome!
Hi +stijn van wauwe Great set up!! Thanks very much I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
So many great records come up on the faders sounding like the record!
aaaaaand another brilliant channel. thx!
Wow thanks Jazz Potatoe I really appreciate it! Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Thanks for the video man! Really enjoyed it and found it very informative :D
Thanks James Nixon I really appreciate it! Have a marvelous time recording, many thanks Warren
Thanks ever so much Chuck! That really means a lot! So glad to be able to help!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
thx for this video!
can you make a video on how we set up a analog console and pro tools when we are tracking?
So, you're saying (from beginning to 3:29) that in a typical DAW, you can't control final signal output AFTER effects, etc.? Thanks so much.
i think your videos are terrific.
Hi DoItYourselfMusician yes the DBX120 is a great sub harmonic synthesizer, I love it on Kick. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Further to my last, I thought the interface to SSL was what you would cover in the episode 4 "Signal Flow". Cheers
Super Video
Btw can u make
a video or audio disc of "No Regrets" ... Lol...just kidding...I just can never seem to find the time to finish it...
Looking forward to the next Vid
Hi Paul Bryson thanks for commenting. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Hi Warren,
I have a few questions and I am sorry if you answer them somewhere else...
Warren,
Where do you generally Hi Pass Guitars both Acoustic and electric? I have been experimenting with this quite a bit. The trade off for me is getting guitars away from bass low freqs but not over doing it ,as to loose the low end Glue. Typically Im between 100 and 200 hz Depending on the other Bass content in the track.
Hi Shane Gamble I think you're definitely in the right area. The secret for me if using plugins is to make it a gentle slope. I think 100-150 on electrics and 150-200 on Acoustics would work out. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
When would you use the compressor before the EQ on the console for what type of sound or instruments
I would love to hear in real time how the channel strips work in all there functions 🙏🏾
Have you ever done a tutorial on using multiple reverbs/delays on a single session?
Is the Soundcraft MH-3 a HUI console please?
Hi I've got a question. at 14:30 your labeling shows you have one channel for kick and snare. What if the kick is recorded from inside and outside mics and snare, from top and bottom mics?. Do you combine them or pre-mix them before the console? Thanks you
Hi Huart! Just want to get your professional opinion. Having a console let's say 32 channel desk, How do you really add
plugins like the wave in a console?
666k subs... bad energy guys.. we need another 1000 followers for this legend right quick!
Hahaha thanks
cant you also group faders in PTS... command G i think .. select the faders with I believe shift alt? or apple shift.. and then apple+G will group right? rather than sending them to an AUX? I forget most the Macros I DEFINITELY remmeber Apple+Z though haha
Just so you know Warren the ad for this video was Nigel Farage, you may wanna contact UA-cam about that...
Is there a tutorial on how this is routed to the computer? Would find that so helpful if there’s one out there!
Yes there is
Warren, probably a stupid question, but do you recommend having your compression set to pre-fader if you're mixing in the box?
Hi Howard Hedger thanks for the great question. Yes I compress on the individual track, then I might send multiple guitars to one aux and then compress them together. Have a marvelous time recording! Many thanks Warren
Hey Warren greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!
Do you prefer to mix using the console or In The Box?
another thing I've noticed these days is that the computer monitors were in the center of the console, I now realize that many have placed the computer monitor next to the console. is there any technical explanation for this or is it just a matter of taste?
Thanks for your time and videos!
does moving a fader up / down is worth 100k$ if you can do it in the box ?
How do I setup my inputs and outputs so I can hear the music and start recording instrumentals and vocals.
output of interface into input mixer,
and than u can use all the other outputs of you interface and select them in Protools, to come into your mixer. i think ??
hi warren, i´m Carlos from Brazil and I´m looking forward to get an analogical compressor pre pc, so i can record my tracks with a hotter signal, without digital clipping.
BUT, how can I use a compressor with a condenser mic only with my usb audio interface phantom power?? do you have any suggestion? thanks and congratulations for your awsome job!
Is there a difference between that and the AWS or Duality in terms of warmth? Great vid, cheers!
Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
barry mccormack tone... Transparency... Punch... Warmth!
Warren what is your opion about Harrison Mixbus 32c
