@@runakovacs4759 uh no. It takes a lot of digging to find good japanese animation these days. anime as an industry has been ruined by fanboys. they just give us the same crap i.e. annoying fanservice , harems, screaming little boys as main characters, boring story and total lack of plot and character development Etc. This is one of the rare gems in anime right now . No fanservice . A female MC who is competent but clearly flawed. Serious topics like being poor , struggling with an incurable illness, dealing with classism, corrupt religious leaders and nobility, even touches on issues like pedophilia and rape (though the more innocent viewers might not notice it, which is good cause kids might be watching)

Wrong. Bookworm is about the selfish desire of a bitch that posessed a little girl's body and has no regards for the world she was thrown in. Dr Stone wants to be just the big name in human reconstruction.
Is Ascendance of a bookworm about advancing anything though? Most of the time Myne goes in circles with different methods like clay tablets. When she finally does make paper the plot shifts to the Cathedral and it's like the whole thing never happened
*cries in spice and wolf as well* I hope to the holy anime studios that be that this doesn't become another spice in wolf in terms of its run. They're very similar in terms of both of them being based off of a long running book, I believe ascendance of a bookworm is 20 vol in and They both have medieval economics. I just hope it doesn't follow in spice and wolfs footsteps and dies after 3 seasons.
I just watched bookworm after seeing it recommended here, absolutely loved it, and am starting to think I should check this "Spice and Wolf" everyone keeps comparing it to. If spice and wolf is half as good as ascendance of a bookworm was it should be well worth it
@@olegfisakov8470 dude. Just...do it. Like, holy fuck it's good. And I'm a dubs pleb...the dub is very well written, and performed quite well too. You need Spice and Wolf in your life.
As someone who can't hardly watch an anime without fighting, swords, guns, violence, or all of the above, favoring shows like Jormungund or Tanya the Evil over slice-of-life stuff, I gotta say that Ascendance of a Bookworm is just... kinda... THE BEST F@#%ING THING EVER! GAAAAHHHHHH, I LOVE IT!
Honestly, I thought I was gonna watch something a school would recommend for homework, but it surprised me on how good this show actually is. I'm sorry for sleeping on Ascendance of a Bookworm, I love this series a lot.
She didn't reincarnate into the little girl and then recover her memories, she possessed the little girl as said girl was dying and heard her last thoughts before the girl passed away and she took over. A bit morbid tbh.
the manga is so fucking bittersweet i love it and hate it at the same time. every scrap of good you get comes with an equal amount of bad. myne finds a chance to make books but she cant do it alone. she finds the best resource to make paper with but it destroys the natural resources around it in order to make it. she gets a job that will help her but her disease is growing and shes forced to make a choice that could result in her both never achieving her dream or ever even seeing her new family shes come to love again. its so good and every single chapter im just praying that this girl doesnt succumb to the devouring or whatever its actually called i just want her to succeed and get that book and live her life. god this manga is so good.
Apparently it's an Avatar the last airbender and Card Captor Sakura type of reincarnation. Your soul is the same but your personality is completely different.
SPOILER if you're interested- Maine is the reincarnation of Urano, that fever half-killed Maine and in desperation and some Gods involved Maine survived her near death by manifesting memory of her previous life. Giving her the 'strong will' to live Urano has. So she IS Maine but with memory and personality of Urano on top of it.

@@tryggvi1239 It's not that big a presence in a peasant's life. Sort of like how magic isn't a big presence in _A Song of Ice & Fire_ until the return of dragons and people start being brought back from the dead.
@@chickenballs-balls i thought the novel is good it has so much detail while anime condensed/skipped a lot of scene from the novel. Then again it was written as a web novel.
the reason why I love this is because it feels like an adventure and the characters actively develop. the growth of the story is amazing. it has great "realism," it has a great protagonist vs society where society is just an "anti-hero" and not a "villian." I would purpose the alternate names of "peasant simulator," harry potter nerd goes on an adventure, and OP book dork isn't Mary sue. it feels natural because the word builds slowly as the character literally matures, it has a very "closed off" feeling like there is a lot of wonderment in the world and an unknown created by the lack of information that makes this fantastical.
while I like the story, I think I could nitpick a good while about things that could be more immersive or consistent, but it's such a relaxing and heartwarming watch overall! However, for the sake of my nerdiness: Wooden buildings that high seem pretty much impossible. Rome had basically concrete building 5/6 levels high, but most medieval cities had mostly individual homes of stone, dirt and brick. If there were particularly tall and robust trees in the nearby forest though, that could have been a clever wrinkle. mostly I lament the lack of visual variety and color, materials and shapes in the downtown area. but the amount of detail that goes in background art is also an issue of budget. Overall the show has an 17th century aesthetic (architecture and clothing), a time when printing presses were around. one can imagine a world evolving tech differently, especially is there's magic around, so more of a remark than anything else. You can be damn sure that working class people in a scarce society aren't going to throw anything away if they can help it. reusing cooking water isn't going to be revolutionary to them, unless there is a cultural taboo around it... or if local vegetables can leave toxic elements in said water. Or if the water itelf is prone to being contaminated-pretty likely in a town without proper sewage and no running water. If people don't have access to washing water and shampoo, they're gonna protect their hair with hats and clothes. The mother does it, you'd expect pretty much everyone else to do the same. Personal hygiene products wee relatively simple to make and were available in almost all cultures, so it's unlikely that Myne would have come up with shampoo first. However she might have a better framework to create different flavors and find substitute ingredients. And most hygiene issues would come from lack of access to clean water and/or cultural stigma - for instance, during the renaissance and for centuries after, people in europe thought that bathing brought illnesses and vermin, but Gauls and other antique European cultures had a pretty good sense of hygiene.
@@maximeteppe7627 there are a lot of fantastical elements, but you can make a wood structure up to about five stories, in fact the limit of structures was 10 stories until the use of steel. the reason for 2-3 story buildings was ease of use. and the ability to expand, but they did get taller and more concentrated as time went on. a lot of your complaints are actually explained via the use of magical plants and magical taboo. you also seem to have a warped perspective of how medieval people operated. but basically the answer to the question is yes they do and so did medieval societies.
"I would watch three seasons of that, probably more!" God damn right. That being said, Bookworm is amazing and almost fills that missing hole in my heart."I'm a wise wolf."
Nothing will truly be a substitute for Spice and Wolf, but there is a high overlap between Spice and Wolf fans and those who like Mushi-shi, dispite the significant differences between the shows.
They are her family but she doesn't completely view them as family at first "They are Mine's family but this family is not mine" kind of mentality Course as time goes on she gets closer to them though I don't think that thought process will leave the back of her mind until she comes clean about how she feels and the whole reincarnation thing
I saw the thumbnail and immediately watched all the way up to the most recent episode and now I don't know how I'm going to survive waiting for the show to finish. I usually binge watch anime all at once. This and Dr. Stone are making me perpetually excited for the next episodes.
@@LucidPoseidon The book for this one really is good. The adaption is faithful, but the original is a lot darker and deeper and the world building far more nuanced. Watch the show first, but I highly recommend the novels afterwards. Most light novels honestly are not well written. That's not the case with Bookworm.
I gave the anime a chance immediately and I could legit not hold my feels. I was smilling the whole way, and managed to watch all the nine episodes in a span of 2 hours. I WANT MORE!
The irony is that a lot of anime adaptations of manga/LNs serve mainly to drive interest in said manga/LNs (effectively being extended advertisements), so new seasons get released when sales of the print works are flagging.
That moment when you realise the light novel you've been reading has an anime. Awesome, now I can get the best of both worlds. (Edit: seeing as this is an isekai story I think I made an unintentional pun)
@@kevinvu5432 Yes, but only 4 volumes have been translated so far. With the 5th coming out later this month. Fortunately they seem to be translating this series fairly quickly about 5 volumes a year.

This channel is wonderful because none of the negative opinions on this channel is unfounded and he gives reasons for why people should and shouldn't watch an anime. I love listening to this channel and get genuine joy when a new video is released.
I watch and then come here. I watch it so I have my own opinion and then come here so the things that I don't see because I couldn't past the first level and or I just missed
JC not a spoiler if you’re current with the anime, which if you’re not you should really do yourself a favor and not go into comment sections of videos about that anime. Not saying that to be pedantic at all I’ve just been spoiled way too many goddam times for the same thing and it’s an avoidable mistake I’ve kicked myself for quite a bit
@@JC-jz6rx It's not a spoiler since it's how Urano reincarnated into Myne. Part of the story is how they have to help her find a solution. Or fail to. I don't know yet, since the anime hasn't gotten that far.

I have already read everything Bookwalker has and know what's going to happen and still i come back every week to watch this as one of 3 shows i am watching weekly this season.
Pesantry wasn't so hard as the misconceptions make us believe. And people knew how to read and write... That is one of the few beefs I have with this anime.
@@darbisd yea. They knew how to read and write their local language. But at the same the same time most books weren't written in local languages in Europe. They were written in Latin and many places called people illiterate if they couldn't read the bible
Why? they have basic knowledge of writings/reading (Main mother showed some sights and what they mean while shopping) they know basic economy etc. they aren't stupid they just have "minimal knowledge" passed down through the generations and learned by themself/experience.
@@natanoj16 well if you don't consider cooking, building, butchering, and even sword fighting as local yes indeed most books were written in French and the bible in Latin (the right language for the holy book). Everyone ignores that bakery and other professions existed and had their respective teachings and methods and all of that needed to be documented (and well documented) and passed forward. :)
"...even those who seem the simplest manage to give the impression that they're always thinking, observing what's around them, and reacting to it, not just embodying tropes and saying things to move the plot along." Good realization, thank you for telling me. This is something that should be widely done in fiction. :)
I'm late to the game, but I just want to say that I was shocked when Frieda disclosed that she basically sold her freedom AND BODY to a noble (at, what, age 6??) so she won't die of a preventable disease. I sat there thinking: Well, that got dark fast!
bear in mind that she becomes a concubine after the coming of age ceremony, so it's after she turns 15-16. It's an arranged marriage, sure, which wasn't rare for children in the medieval period, but the age at which they're allowed to marry/ considered adult is actually fairly higher than what it was in our own medieval period, so it's not that bad. Furthermore, a year over there has more days (a bit above 400 IIRC), which means that the marriable age is actually very, very close of 18 in term of how many days the peoples have lived already.
They took Spice And Wolf and Dr Stone, two fantasy stories I really like, and distilled some of there best features into one story. If it keeps going the way it is, It's going to be very interesting. I'll give it a full read once the Anime's done with, What is with these anime and making me want to buy physical copies of the LNS.
I fell in love with the series about ten minutes into the first episode, and immediately started on the light novels. I can highly recommend giving them a read to supplement the anime
Am I sick for laughing at the irony that her one true love was reading books and she was crushed to death by them? Because I did, and I don't feel bad about it. Maybe because I have no personal connection with the character yet because I haven't watched this anime yet. But I certainly plan on it. Been looking for a good fantasy anime I can just relax with and enjoy.
It goes even further than that. The Light Novel starts with Urano talking with a someone about how she'll die alone if she doesn't get out more, and she says she wants to die surrounded by books.
@@nicklol8269 They actually make you think she will die by Truck-kun right in the first couple sentences, but nope crushed by books due to a earthquake.

I couldn't get through Spice and Wolf even once, but Ascendance of a Bookworm has managed to keep me entertained through multiple re-watches of the two seasons that are already out and the one airing now has me on the edge of my seat.
They have to cut those things. For example , in epologe when Benno , Otto and Corrina talks about Myne its was my favorite part in LN but in anime its not that important to spent time.
My big problem with the LN is its first person perspective Not only it really narrows the experience the reader has but it paints everything abd everyone in a meaner light

I can’t reread the light novel and manga enough times to satisfy my urge for more Maine. It is truly cruel that I have to wait until April to get my hands on the next English translated volume. A cruel joke.....
I miscalculated. Now that I have Book Walker I only have to wait until January 20th for my next volume to read!! The anticipation will surely kill me and I’ll be reincarnated into another world where Ascendance of a Bookworm does not exist. A horrifying thought......I should stay away from tall stacks of books for a while.
It's a shame the fan translations of the novel drop in quality significantly towards the later translated chapters (like Google translate level quality). And the official translation takes too damn long!
I've read the translated webnovel to chapter 120-ish, might you know around what volume that would be? (Maine was thinking about making ink lastly for me)
I literally just recommended this anime to my best friend who is a huge bibliophile on Thursday... and here you come out with a video about it less than a week later. Now I get to show her your video as well lol This anime has made me cry several times already. I've already bought all of the books, so while I'm glad Kadokawa has hooked everyone up with this deal, I will not be able to partake lol
I LOVE this series!!! It's so cute, I love Urano trying to live as Main, I love her relationships with everyone she meets, it's such a fantastic, deep series.
I love this anime so much, but there is one small flaw about it, but even that only matters to certain people. They speak in ways that 5-7 year olds would never speak, and same with Lutz’s deduction. Still overall great watch.
if by "they" you mean Main, that's because she isn't a 5-7 year old, mentally speaking. Also, Lutz clearly talked in ways appropriate for his age range until he met Otto. Also, since their society has you entering into an apprenticeship at the age of 7, I'm not that surprised that a majority of these 5 year old kids are pretty set in what they think they want to do
@@frimi8593 yeah, the way people (including kids) speak is pretty malleable to environment. Stick a kid into a situation where they're normally holding up their end of significant conversations with adults, and they will start to talk different. Hell, if I start reading/listening to more period books for a while, my phrasing can become slightly archaic and put people in a new city/region and they'll start to pick up accents automatically most of the time.
In the Novel, we can see everyone around her doubt her behaviour, some question it and some let it go. And Luts is considered a Genius by Main. You can even compare him with other children
Really loving this show, thank you for putting into words the reasons why it’s so good. I was looking forward to just having an isekai show where the protagonist isn’t ridiculously overpowered and able to solve every problem with some random skill, but I was even more pleasantly surprised by the level of detail and care put into the characters and world building.
After you catch up this series you may want to check out, So I'm a Spider So What?. The main character is reborn as three foot high spider, which is the weakest monster race in the giantic labyrinth that is her home. She has to figure out how to survive and grow stronger as a weak spider.
Heh, yeah. She's basically a changeling and I'm both assuming and _very_ glad that those don't seem to be a Thing/common folklore in the series' universe. Her life could've been a hell of a lot harder otherwise
@@kevinvu5432 changelings are human-like creatures from European folklore. Changelings were known to Know Too Much, know things they shouldn't/normal human kids wouldn't, and being wise beyond their age. (As a fun and depressing tidbit, "changelings" were usually the explanation for strange illnesses, disorders and developmental disabilities.......and most ways to "deal" with changelings was to, uh, basically kill them. Which. Yeah.) But yeah she's pretty much the definition of a changeling in a l o t of ways and boy howdy is it good news that this european-inspired pre-industrial fantasy world doesn't seem to Have Legends About Those 8)
I'm also loving the leisurely pace of this show, it somehow manages to go slow but never boring. While watching each episode I just fall into the world it's building and simmer along it's heartwarming story. Always a bit sad when the episode ends cause I have to return to real life once again.
He really should've gotten to the hair, dude it's amazing that for once I see hair color matter, something so tiny and minute that is usually completely overlooked actually being demonstrated in the world with many of the other peoples hair also being vibrantly colored is just amazing.
I love this show and after watching 2 eps pretty much went out and caught up in translated manga almost instantly! I especially like how she will just create something or let some enlightened idea slip and one hand her family is usually like wtf maybe just help us prepare for winter but on the other the merchant guy is like maybe slow your roll on these entire industries we could be making a fortune off of please until we have the rights and ability to profit off it. A part of me thinks she could probably trade her cooking recipes alone to get some nobles giving her books but I guess it is more satisfying this way as she earns them on her own.
Do yourself a favor and go for the light novels. They're well past the manga. I usually don't like cutesy anime but there is just something about Myne overcoming her struggles despite her fragile state that just puts a smile on my face, so much so that I've taken to reading the novels (just as Myne would have it) and am anxiously waiting for the next volume (just like I'm sure she would be).
My favorite detail in this show is how as people get to know the Mc their hair starts shinning as they start using shampoo, and how when she got in a fight with Lutz his hair stopped shinning bc she wasn't washing it for him Bit late but this show was an eye opener
Absolutely loving the slow-burn approach in this anime! 🌟 The careful pacing really does wonders for the world-building. It's such a refreshing change from other anime that sometimes overwhelm with information without giving it the proper time to sink in. Kudos to the creators for taking their time and letting the audience savor the details. 🙌
Ahh, _Bookworm,_ definitely my favorite anime of this year (though...I thought rather than Urano "recovering her memories of her previous life" in the way, say, Katarina does in _My Next Life as a Villainess_ that it was basically that Myne died and Urano's soul inhabited the left-behind body? Though I haven't read the LNs so it's entirely possible I'm completely wrong) for all the reasons cited herein. Speaking of well-crafted fantasy worlds, may I give a shoutout to _Seirei no Moribito?_
Nah, it gets covered in a extra book or something, and has also been confirmed trough the authors twitter that the soul is the same, but the memories, perhaps ego is different... Or gets resurfaced

Such a unique and heartwarming anime. The characters are lovable, the world has a lot of depth and it makes Myne's quest that much more interesting. It feels real, and it's a welcome very different take on the isekai genre
I’ve watched this anime 3-4 times already. I love its world building and how it is FINALLY not a harem or perverted anime. Been looking for more innocent animes.
Thank you for showing us this one. I probably would have never heard of it, and now it's one of my most anticipated series on my watchlist. You're truly doing the Anime Pope's work out here.
I was surprised too I didn't think this was among the many manga that guy in anime. I know the hero is overly cautious oh, I'm a spider so what, and mother multiattack because that title is too f****** long got Anime especially the first two I mention. But it wasn't until Mother's basement put this video of that Bookworm got in the anime I honestly passed it by when I saw Inn on the manga sites I go to when I first started going to them months ago which was during the summer. I think I only read one chapter and thought it would be boring but after seeing this I'm going to check it out right now who knows I might actually like it! I mean Spice and Wolf is something I really want to check add eventually buds I've honestly been saying it back at the Heyday of spice and wolves popularity. So maybe I like it maybe I won't but seeing what I'm hearing I'm likely going to be in the like department.
Every time someone was close to finding out Myne’s secret, I’d pretty much have a heart attack. That’s what I get for watching season one in less than a day
This had been my favorite light novel for a while, and I'm so glad you're bringing attention to the anime because it deserves it. I hope you can do a book club on the series eventually!!!
Thank you for this recommendation. I couldn't really get through Dr Stone (got to about chapter 60) because it felt like an amazing premise that got Shonened into silliness. This is so heartfelt, earnest and subtle in how she uses her modern knowledge. I'm absolutely loving this take on the "nerd gets sent back in time" subgenre. Also, like you mentioned briefly, I love that her family isn't just like "oh, well I guess our daughter is just a crazy genius, how bout that." That, and her transition to the new world are handled really well.
I am well into Season 2, love the series, and just realized that the story has 23 volumes, and Season 2 is likely to cover only up till the 5th volume... which means I will need to chase after this story for the next 3 to 4 years (assuming they continue to push out two seasons per year)!
I love Bookworm!! Main is adorable, especially when we get those cute little thoughts animations and I just love how real all the characters feel. The world just draws me in and I appreciate that the show doesn't just wave away the fact that life as a peasant in the medieval era wasn't as grungy as we tend to think it was, but that it also wasn't the cleanest either. Private bathrooms did not exist back then and it's addressed without going so far into it that it's obnoxious. I'm so glad that it exists, as someone who both loves books and desperately craves more good quality fantasy content in anime.
As so.eone who plans on becoming a novelist, this anime really intrigues me - it seems like an excellent case study of building a believable fantasy world, and how eastern storytellers use settings and scenarios for the sake of delivering character-driven stories. Anime and manga have had an enormous influence on me and my taste, and I want to show my respect by representing that influence properly in my writing rather than merely grafting eastern tropes onto my work for the sake of it.
9:34 Is that how it happened? I thought she possessed Mains body right before Main died of a fever and then gained access to Mains memories a little bit after that.
@@cgoose500 I think it's likely 'Tensei Kizoku no Isekai' (not full name) but it could be 'Tensei Ouji wa Daraketai'. The second one was at 3 years old though. Both of them are more of the lighthearted variety of isekai with slightly overpowered main characters
Officially, according to the author. That's how the Devouring works: it eats away at the person, and the original Myne basically lost enough of herself to awaken her past life. Myne has no way of knowing this, though, and thinks she's basically bodyjacked a dying child.
Thank you for that description of this anime. Usually those sites I go to don't describe the anime in detail like you did and now you have me very interested in it!
To those that are only seeing the anime, as an LN reader i can tell you that we are in the prologue of the prologue. And trust me, every part of this road is beautifully written and also probably has the most realistic portrayal of society in medieval times was like. Its truly beautiful.
When the show first started I was thinking that someone needs to make a meme of: "Don't judge a book by it's cover and don't judge a person by their name." Then have a pic of Myne from Shield Hero next to a of Myne from Bookworm. (With name tags)
The base knowledge that this show was about books already had me intrigued but now I really want to watch this! I'm not even into iseki but this looks right up my alley
You missed the romantic elements, Lutz and Mye, Otto and his wife, and so on, at point the story borders on a love story. At the very lest, Mye love for books
@@danielantony1882 Both are actually correct and it's not a translation error. Her name is directly translated to main but when the book was translated the translator intentionally spelled her name myne so it wouldn't confuse english readers. So both are technically right/canon.
When the bar for anime is so low that characters acting like actual human beings with personalities is a talking point is rEALLY sad. This anime looks really nice tho, I might actually get back into anime just for this
The novel actually would sometimes take this a step further too. They would occasionally have a chapter that is told from the perspective from another character, they didn’t do it often, but it gave you a new perspective of all the events that take place.
So I just binged all the available episodes last night, and if I had thought your praise was probably at least a bit of an overestimation, then boy did I think wrong. I adored every second of it! And I was particularly floored when crochet was depicted correctly. Most shows don't even know the difference between crochet and knitting, let alone how to draw actual techniques. I'm also considering cosplaying as Main, since I would have fun making the pieces and can mix them into my own wardrobe. I will definitely be using that discount code you gave us - thank you for that, by the way!
"She's no Senkuu" ROASTED Jokes aside, it's a great anime and Main Character indeed. I like Senku more but that's 100% (10billionpercent) my personal taste and Myne is very close anyway. Senku is basically a "good Artemis Fowl without magic". (Artemis Fowl is the MC of a book named after him) These type of characters are basically cheat-level all-knowing people. Ascendance of a Bookworm is NOT that kind of story, the main focus is in a different place. As a fellow book-loving guy myself I instantly liked the show and I feel close to Myne. I'm no Senku of course and I can see every single problem Myne comes across as natural and very believable. If she wasn't a "normal" person most of the stuff, failures, interaction with the cast and so on wouldn't happen and that's the appeal of the show!
She has the worst character I had ever seen a MC have. She's stubborn, but not in a positive way (like for example Luffy) but in annoying one - not thinking about nothing but freaking books, just as if she had a pretty bad case of autism, while theoretically retaining normal abilities...
Finally an anime where the little girl does not squeal often, is not part of a harem, is not used as fanservice, and not get into any suggestive position somehow with any guy character
I like how AoB is an isekai, but breaks 90% of the genre's conventions like action and battles first (slice of life more), fanservice (not in this show), overpowered main character (she barely survives her mana problems and everything has struggles), harem (romance is not even central in this story), demon lord (maybe if he hates books), truck-kun death (more in the line of earth quake-kun), magic battles (there are so rare that the force choking in season 1 was surprising), adventuring (she doesn't even leave the city and it's forest in the first 2 seasons).
That moment when anime shows us that it's actually cool to care about knowing the world around you
All Isekai do this. Cause we are really advanced. We know such fundamentals when some people(in another world) may not already be thete
Anime in general tends to have a "caring matters", contrary to usual mainstream media showing "caring just ruins you."

Ascendance of a bookworm is about advancing human culture with the creations.

Dr Stone wants to be just the big name in human reconstruction.

the manga is so fucking bittersweet i love it and hate it at the same time. every scrap of good you get comes with an equal amount of bad. myne finds a chance to make books but she cant do it alone. she finds the best resource to make paper with but it destroys the natural resources around it in order to make it. she gets a job that will help her but her disease is growing and shes forced to make a choice that could result in her both never achieving her dream or ever even seeing her new family shes come to love again. its so good and every single chapter im just praying that this girl doesnt succumb to the devouring or whatever its actually called i just want her to succeed and get that book and live her life. god this manga is so good.

@@chickenballs-balls i thought the novel is good it has so much detail while anime condensed/skipped a lot of scene from the novel.
Then again it was written as a web novel.
One of my favourite isekais.
No trash
Lmao
the reason why I love this is because it feels like an adventure and the characters actively develop. the growth of the story is amazing. it has great "realism," it has a great protagonist vs society where society is just an "anti-hero" and not a "villian."
I would purpose the alternate names of "peasant simulator," harry potter nerd goes on an adventure, and OP book dork isn't Mary sue.
it feels natural because the word builds slowly as the character literally matures, it has a very "closed off" feeling like there is a lot of wonderment in the world and an unknown created by the lack of information that makes this fantastical.
while I like the story, I think I could nitpick a good while about things that could be more immersive or consistent, but it's such a relaxing and heartwarming watch overall!
However, for the sake of my nerdiness:
Wooden buildings that high seem pretty much impossible.
@@maximeteppe7627 there are a lot of fantastical elements, but you can make a wood structure up to about five stories, in fact the limit of structures was 10 stories until the use of steel. the reason for 2-3 story buildings was ease of use. and the ability to expand, but they did get taller and more concentrated as time went on. a lot of your complaints are actually explained via the use of magical plants and magical taboo.
you also seem to have a warped perspective of how medieval people operated. but basically the answer to the question is yes they do and so did medieval societies.

bear in mind that she becomes a concubine after the coming of age ceremony, so it's after she turns 15-16.

Also, since their society has you entering into an apprenticeship at the age of 7, I'm not that surprised that a majority of these 5 year old kids are pretty set in what they think they want to do
Mainly Myne has the problem for obvious reasons, but the reason Lutz and the other kids act like 9-10 year olds is because of their environment:)
I keep thinking Myne is like, 9 or 10 because it just takes me out of it to believe 6 year olds are having these complex conversations and lives.

Web Novel - Japanese - 677 chapters - Finished
Fan translation of web novel - 103 chapters done well. Chapters 104 through 112 - Poorly edited machine translation trash. Will not be completed due to...
Light Novels - Japanese - 20 volumes published, 21st available mid December. Expect a final count of 32 volumes to be finished late 2022.
Light Novels translation - 4 volumes translated, 5th expected January 20, 2020. At current translation rate, expect all 32 volumes mid to late 2024.
As for the anime, I expect it to cover the 1st arc, or first 3 volumes of the light novel. Unfortunately, I don't expect the anime to get enough seasons to actually cover the entire series. Would absolutely love to be wrong, but have doubt it.
@@johncochran8497 You can also read the 5th volume's chapters as they are translated by getting a membership to J-Novel Club, the official English translator, you can also preview earlier volumes for free there.
I usually don't like cutesy anime but there is just something about Myne overcoming her struggles despite her fragile state that just puts a smile on my face, so much so that I've taken to reading the novels (just as Myne would have it) and am anxiously waiting for the next volume (just like I'm sure she would be).
My favorite detail in this show is how as people get to know the Mc their hair starts shinning as they start using shampoo, and how when she got in a fight with Lutz his hair stopped shinning bc she wasn't washing it for him
Bit late but this show was an eye opener
Absolutely loving the slow-burn approach in this anime! 🌟 The careful pacing really does wonders for the world-building. It's such a refreshing change from other anime that sometimes overwhelm with information without giving it the proper time to sink in. Kudos to the creators for taking their time and letting the audience savor the details. 🙌
Finally someone else is raving about how good this show is!!
Yea. I think your right. There have been a few comments (including mine) posting that correction.
That is my take on it too Dezo.
Nah, it gets covered in a extra book or something, and has also been confirmed trough the authors twitter that the soul is the same, but the memories, perhaps ego is different... Or gets resurfaced
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again.
Gunther is Best Dad of 2019 imo.
Senku's dad from Dr. Stone will come down from space and restart civilization to fight you on that.
MapleRhubarb and senku’s dad made memes.
Also important to add that he’s his adoptive dad so even doubly cool for how much he loves a son that’s not his
@@McSnezzly And double *that* for the lengths he goes to that haven't been revealed yet in the anime and I won't mention any further, but will say it made me cry like a bitch. :')
Lutz is best boy.
And my axe...
Such a unique and heartwarming anime. The characters are lovable, the world has a lot of depth and it makes Myne's quest that much more interesting. It feels real, and it's a welcome very different take on the isekai genre
Finally, someone said it. This is my fav show of the whole season. Glad it isn't going completely under the radar.
Killed partly by irony but mostly by cranial bleeding.
Life before death
Strength before weakness
Journey before destination
I will protect those who cannot protect themselves
I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right
Okay bridgeboy.
Probably just showing my lack of knowledge on references, but one of those is not like the other. People tend to start out weak before getting strong.
@@skycastrum5803, it is from Brandon Sanderson's the stormlight archives series. If you wanna know what it's about you can check there.
I’ve watched this anime 3-4 times already. I love its world building and how it is FINALLY not a harem or perverted anime. Been looking for more innocent animes.
:O did the "innocent" part change when you read the ln or still an anime only?
Thank you for showing us this one. I probably would have never heard of it, and now it's one of my most anticipated series on my watchlist. You're truly doing the Anime Pope's work out here.
Every time I watch a series and think "this thing is totally underrated" you come along and make a video on it. Good taste you have there!
I love the manga for this and hadn't realised it had been made into an anime, looking forward to binge watching this :)
@@paulman34340 So I'm a Spider still hasn't been released yet.
It's sad that this show is only getting a 7.29 on MyAnimeList. This show is something special!
Dude that's pretty high to be honest.
@@alifhazmi7341 I know MAL rates a little low, but not that low. Another half of a point wouldn't even bring it to 8.0.
I'll note that MAL now has the first season as an 8.02 and the second as an 8.15. That places it rightly with the greats !
Glad that all of its season get more than 8 now
Otto is thirst AF and I laughed so hard at this part.
Whenever Benno talks, all I can hear is DIO

As so.eone who plans on becoming a novelist, this anime really intrigues me - it seems like an excellent case study of building a believable fantasy world, and how eastern storytellers use settings and scenarios for the sake of delivering character-driven stories.
Anime and manga have had an enormous influence on me and my taste, and I want to show my respect by representing that influence properly in my writing rather than merely grafting eastern tropes onto my work for the sake of it.

Is that how it happened?
I thought she possessed Mains body right before Main died of a fever and then gained access to Mains memories a little bit after that.
You're correct, I have a feeling that he was thinking of another isekai where that happened
@@vaullus6074 What's the name of that one?
@@cgoose500 I think "Make My Abilities Average" would be my guess.

Found this anime a week ago and it's one of my favorites this season. Reminds me how fortunate I am that I am able to read and write.
I love this sooo much too.
Best character Myne.
When the show first started I was thinking that someone needs to make a meme of:
"Don't judge a book by it's cover and don't judge a person by their name."
Then have a pic of Myne from Shield Hero next to a of Myne from Bookworm. (With name tags)
"I can feel some eyes glazing over out there" but it was so enjoyable T-T
Just started this show and binge watched it up to this point in one day. It's beyond amazing and I love it!
Talking about "epic battles" while showing Seya annihilate a slime.
Nice.
The base knowledge that this show was about books already had me intrigued but now I really want to watch this! I'm not even into iseki but this looks right up my alley
YES!!! Bookworm is my favorite anime this season!!!
You missed the romantic elements, Lutz and Mye, Otto and his wife, and so on, at point the story borders on a love story. At the very lest, Mye love for books
Stop calling her Myne, guys. She's called Main.
Daniel Antony
Just so you know her name is written as Myne in the light novel and as Main in the anime
@@marinkagreen9415 I think that's just a Translation error.
This anime looks really nice tho, I might actually get back into anime just for this
that bar is low in many different mediums /:
Did you end up watching it?
I was so happy when this became an anime! I read the manga and really loved seeing the series animated
Dude yes. This one was a sleeper, I randomly clicked on it and its fucking amazing
"She's no Senkuu" ROASTED
Jokes aside, it's a great anime and Main Character indeed.
Guys, stop calling her Myne. She's Main. Stop using the whore's name on her.
I'm so happy you brought this series to my attention. Just started binging it and I'm having a blast
this has become my absolute favorite book series, just hope that you all are still continuing on reading the LNs
This series is fantastic. I would finish each episode happily with excitement for the next. The slower pace almost feels like reading a good book.
Yeah, this is definitely my favorite show of the season. After two episodes I got my hands on of the LN and now I'm waiting for the next release.
Finally an anime where the little girl does not squeal often, is not part of a harem, is not used as fanservice, and not get into any suggestive position somehow with any guy character
I like how AoB is an isekai, but breaks 90% of the genre's conventions like action and battles first (slice of life more), fanservice (not in this show), overpowered main character (she barely survives her mana problems and everything has struggles), harem (romance is not even central in this story), demon lord (maybe if he hates books), truck-kun death (more in the line of earth quake-kun), magic battles (there are so rare that the force choking in season 1 was surprising), adventuring (she doesn't even leave the city and it's forest in the first 2 seasons).
she has like 100x more mana than anyone else.
its naruto all over again.
I love the tiny details like you know who's life has been affected by main because their hair is shiny (they use her shampoo)
its such a nice detail!
you can see it slowly expand overtime as her product slowly gets out to the world and also everyone she gave the shampoo too
Easily my number one anime now. Thanks Mothers Basement for getting these underrated anime in the spotlight
